some warmer weather here.
[0:12]
» I got a call from my friend who lives up
who's coming this weekend. He lives in
[0:15]
upstate New York. Wanted to know if he
could play golf this weekend.
[0:19]
Last year he came the same weekend we
did play golf. So that tells you the
[0:23]
difference. No, it's not happening.
>> Yeah. I found a place in Monroe that was
[0:28]
open that almost probably walking or
cart path only not happening. So anyway,
[0:35]
» uh nice to see everybody. Uh I'll start
with the minutes from last month. We got
[0:40]
them out a little earlier for a change.
So um I'll make a motion we approve the
[0:43]
minutes from February 11th. Is there
Thank you. Any concerns, comments,
[0:48]
questions?
Hearing none. All in favor of approving
[0:52]
them. Hi. Raise your hand. Whatever
you'd like. All right. Old business. I
[0:58]
got about four other issu or three other
issues on the old business list because
[1:02]
I told Michelle I was sitting in a on
vacation when I sent this email to to
[1:08]
Mandy. So, I have a few extra things.
So, um why don't we go down this list
[1:12]
and then we'll add I'll folks the other
things. So, I just wanted to, you know,
[1:16]
ask how the folks who, you know, Julia
and and Michelle, how you felt the the
[1:22]
plastic presentation? I thought the
presentation went I mean, the film is
[1:28]
great.
>> Amazing.
[1:30]
» Yeah. Yeah.
Just trying to remember who she is.
[1:36]
It's been a long day already.
>> It was small. The attendance was
[1:40]
smaller.
>> Yeah. Yeah. But I think the topic was
[1:44]
still compelling and um
>> wellreceived. I've received emails.
[1:49]
People appreciated our giveaways a lot.
I've had people email saying, "Hey,
[1:55]
where did you get that? Where can I
find?" So um and and people have
[2:02]
stopped.
>> I know. But I always try to say
[2:08]
like I you know I hate all the shipping
and yeah whatever the big bad Amazon but
[2:14]
» um
>> yeah so the feedback was really good
[2:16]
» right
>> and Litty won the cutting board
[2:20]
she was just
>> so that that's like the best
[2:26]
from the work they knew that was perfect
if we could have that was
[2:34]
Yeah, it was great that they were there,
too.
[2:38]
» I'm really glad they was great. I mean,
I think you know, your communication
[2:42]
with them has been great and it's that's
really made them feel a more going on.
[2:47]
Yeah, it's just been great. So, thank
you for that.
[2:50]
» Um, the tree presentation, it's next two
week. What is it?
[2:54]
» Week from today.
>> Week from today.
[2:56]
» Week from today, there's the folder in
glass tape. I brought it in so people
[3:00]
can see. I sent it to my neighborhood
association.
[3:04]
» Okay. It's been in this black month's
email. Got a couple around.
[3:11]
» Yeah. And there's more in there.
>> It's a Wednesday, too.
[3:15]
» Oh, wow.
>> I got that in my calendar. So,
[3:21]
» did that.
>> All right. Everything is all set then.
[3:23]
No other, you know, pretty well.
>> I We're We're all set with the building.
[3:28]
We need to arrive a little early to set
up chairs of AV stuff.
[3:32]
» I um
>> I emailed what's his name?
[3:37]
» Richard.
>> Richard.
[3:38]
» Richard.
>> And um asking if he could send his
[3:42]
presentation. I haven't heard back.
>> But that's just his backup to make sure
[3:47]
because I'm always a little nervous.
[3:52]
» I did go up there for a test run with my
laptop and couldn't
[3:59]
meeting in the room. I couldn't get to
the projector. So, I will I'm going to
[4:04]
just make sure that my laptop set up to
the projector just to
[4:10]
» I'll reach out to make sure everything
is
[4:12]
» and I guess if we're gonna if we have to
do a lot of setup, we should probably
[4:15]
get there a little bit earlier than we
do with the library.
[4:19]
» Yeah, we have to set up the chair. So
maybe close and I'll be there getting
[4:23]
the AV, you know, the screen down and
the the um
[4:27]
» Yeah. Yeah, I think that would be
>> just so that way there's something.
[4:31]
» I mean, we don't need to set up a 100
chairs. I don't expect like a
[4:35]
» Yeah, just in case there's some glitch
that we need to
[4:38]
» It's always better set up some and then
when more people come, you get them out
[4:42]
and then you feel like
>> Well, at least we have some in that room
[4:46]
along the walls.
>> Yeah.
[4:49]
» All right. Great.
>> Then we should probably have some signs
[4:52]
outside because I know people get very
confused. Yeah.
[4:54]
» We know the two buildings and the
entrance because they're all these
[4:57]
entrances.
>> That's that's a good idea.
[4:59]
» So we should probably
>> I know I forget that.
[5:04]
» Um
>> what can I put outside?
[5:09]
Do we have a sandwich board that we
could just take a um piece of paper and
[5:14]
put it there with a sign, you know, and
somewhere's on the lawn there in front
[5:19]
where people park
>> or we can
[5:21]
» parable that way
>> even on the corner of the building.
[5:26]
» Figure it out. I've got I've got yard,
you know, the ones you poke in the yard.
[5:30]
I think all of our sandwich boards are
out or
[5:33]
» out. Like there's one at the transfer
station. the at the schools with the no
[5:37]
idling.
>> Yeah.
[5:38]
» I do you know does anybody know what
happened to the one back here?
[5:42]
» We used to have a sandwich board that
explained what you get the thing.
[5:45]
» It's not there.
>> Well, there was a lot of snow the last
[5:47]
time I looked,
>> but I don't I am
[5:51]
» blaming one of the guys plowing picked
it up or something. All right, I'll I'll
[5:55]
check.
>> Um, so at the moment I don't have a
[5:59]
sandwich. Oh, wait. No, I have one over
at the market. EDC stuff, that is. Yeah.
[6:04]
So, okay. Yeah. So, I'll grab I need to
grab that sound board anyway,
[6:10]
» but I'll pick up even if it just says
something like event.
[6:15]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah.
[6:18]
All right. The newsletter. Everybody's
already got their article into you,
[6:21]
Michelle.
>> Actually, no.
[6:25]
» Well, I know one person who has it, so
me. So,
[6:30]
» you the only person who's given it to
me, but can you pardon?
[6:32]
» No. No. Yeah. I which is not
>> and I need to attach photos. So also
[6:38]
I'll send you um Yeah. So word
>> I was going to ask if you could just go
[6:43]
over
>> the list that you expect this
[6:47]
» pulling up
and wait if you could email. Yep. Would
[6:52]
be great because then that's the
designer can manipulate and get it in
[6:58]
the
>> graphic.
[7:00]
» That's fine. She pulls them actually and
sometimes I've included graphics and
[7:04]
even that would be you know the
>> the tree
[7:07]
» the tree.
>> Yeah. The designer really helps to make
[7:10]
sure that I don't use any uh photos that
are copyrighted. So she's helpful with
[7:15]
that. Here we go. Roadside cleanup. Wack
is going to get it in. Earth Day flyer
[7:21]
whack. Dark skies care. Spring cleaning.
Julia swap and sell. Think at the sink.
[7:29]
Don't forget septic.
>> Yeah, right. Got that right. Artificial
[7:34]
turf. Jar
>> recycling J. Food waste. J
[7:39]
trees. Nick. Wildlife friendly yards. A
EV charger. Julia.
[7:47]
» Check out new website.
>> We're trying to I think that more had to
[7:51]
do
>> Well, I think we can do that.
[7:56]
» Yeah. Take that. I I went to the website
today to see how things were and
[8:01]
» so it's up and running. Yeah.
>> Um I haven't figured out how to
[8:06]
document. I've got minutes and agendas.
>> Yeah.
[8:09]
» And sort of calendar events about as far
as I've gotten.
[8:12]
» All right.
>> Um
[8:14]
» we could put a little blurb in there
somewhere just to, you know, um look for
[8:19]
our uh look for the town's updated
website and and sustainability. you'll
[8:25]
find you know in the f you know I mean
something coming soon
[8:31]
» because resources so we could just sort
of say
[8:35]
» yeah just watch there coming soon
>> we're getting close enough that it is
[8:39]
coming soon
>> well it's up on the line so it's got
[8:44]
» it just
>> okay
[8:47]
» uh plastics bone series the 10 ways to
reduce plastics flyer we were going to
[8:53]
put in there. Links to other sources.
Uh, nobody is this. I can do that since
[9:01]
I've got the fly. I made it. So, that's
me. And then textiles.
[9:05]
» That is me.
>> That's you.
[9:07]
» Um,
that's what I have.
[9:11]
» So, J mentioned rehashing last year's
plastic article. I can do that with the
[9:16]
textile. Maybe
>> the plastic article I wrote. Yeah. Yeah.
[9:22]
» Or you want to do that at the time.
>> Um
[9:27]
I don't know. But I do feel like we
should not be afraid to hit topics that
[9:33]
were in there last year.
>> I agree.
[9:34]
» Because people I still have people come
saying, "Wait, I can recycle film
[9:40]
plastic." I'm like, "Yes."
>> Like we I don't think we can say any of
[9:45]
these things enough. One of the things
I'm going to do is this article I did
[9:49]
last year on recycling and talk about,
you know, how much how many tons of
[9:53]
glass and that I'm going to do that
>> similar kind of thing again. I think and
[9:58]
say over now I have over a three-year
period we've been we collected, you
[10:02]
know, kind of
>> the statistics.
[10:05]
» I think that's a good idea
>> say any of that enough.
[10:09]
» Yeah. Are we doing one on composting
too? was somebody doing
[10:12]
» I can rehash that too
>> because I thought I saw
[10:17]
» um
you know
[10:20]
» I think that would be great
>> this is probably enough it uh how many
[10:25]
pages was that
[10:30]
» um because designer she stretches and
tightens it like so I did write I did
[10:37]
write an article about our movie night
and and and sort of promoting the front
[10:42]
line the plastic film.
>> Oh. Oh, you did. So, I'm just gonna So,
[10:45]
I'm just gonna send you and then if some
of mine get cut, that's fine. We'll just
[10:50]
use them next year.
>> Yeah, but I think that's a good
[10:52]
» Yeah, I agree. And we had asked actually
I brought this up to Kevin Smith uh we
[10:57]
had met during the budget se process I
mentioned to him about that I had
[11:03]
mentioned what that the town crew was
using on the roads and and he was going
[11:07]
to write an article about that for us
too.
[11:10]
That's not on my list because Oh, it was
I think we talked about it at some other
[11:14]
place, but I wanted to celebrate their
certification.
[11:17]
» Yeah. Yeah. They're certified and they
do more than the state does
[11:21]
» and then I wanted him to make sure, you
know, talk about that they they don't
[11:25]
just go up every road and do the same
thing on every road. They have, you
[11:29]
know, they they they got it all set. So,
um
[11:33]
» I'll remind him about that. Um just
everybody remember that you know 300
[11:40]
words or or less is really great you
know people
[11:44]
» I had somebody that's topic
we're talking about communications they
[11:50]
basically said I don't really read it I
just look at the pictures
[11:57]
» short pictures right we were we were
>> it was like housing housing wanted to
[12:05]
Can I do a little blur on loss of
biodiversity?
[12:10]
I think it's pretty relevant.
>> On the what?
[12:13]
» Loss of bio bios.
>> The loss of Yeah.
[12:16]
» Oh, I thought you saying loss.
[12:22]
» Biodiversity. Yeah, that's good.
>> This is pretty relevant to our area.
[12:26]
» Definitely.
>> I make it small.
[12:30]
» Yes. Yeah,
>> I know.
[12:33]
» I mean, it touches everyone.
[12:37]
» That's a good birthday topic. That's a
good one. It's a good one. It's a good
[12:40]
one.
>> And uh moving on then. Is that anything
[12:43]
else? And you need them by March
>> March 26.
[12:47]
» March 26. That's when I knew it. I'm
still in good shape.
[12:51]
» I think you got two.
>> Yeah. March 26.
[12:56]
All right. Um and planning for Earth
Day. any uh thing that we
[13:03]
» we have our we got our table. We'll
probably take some more. Maybe we'll,
[13:06]
you know, we'll take some more of the
free things that we were giving away at
[13:10]
a movie event and drag those over there.
And then I have the seeds. And
[13:16]
so we work with the
>> W.
[13:20]
W's the one that started this. So we've
kind of So they still
[13:24]
» So they have a table and we have a
table.
[13:27]
» They organized the whole event. Yes.
Their event, but we set up a table. They
[13:32]
have students come and set up table the
student projects.
[13:36]
» Okay. So, they want me to do a little
hang me up like mending
[13:42]
» station. Cool.
>> So, I guess I'll do that.
[13:46]
» Yes. Okay.
>> Um, and you you're able to be there?
[13:50]
» Yes. Yes.
>> What's the time frame?
[13:52]
» I'll be there. 9 to 12.
>> So, 10 to two.
[13:54]
» 10 to two. So, we'll do the same thing I
did last year. We have a chart. you sign
[13:59]
up for a time and walk the dogs
>> and I you and I'm and I'll go hang out
[14:05]
your garage and steal stuff like
>> excellent.
[14:10]
» Um I want to give an update. I never
well and on my list of extra things to
[14:17]
talk about the conservation meeting that
[14:22]
» but it was there that I realized that uh
Karen Silk who's president of whack
[14:28]
» had been calling York Labs for the water
testing I emailed they've not returned
[14:35]
my calls or my
>> that was one of my questions you
[14:37]
» so she had reached out to Gity water
>> uh I can do some testing.
[14:45]
» So, I just emailed her today saying,
"Hey, I still haven't heard. Please
[14:51]
» line up, you know, see what they can do.
I know she's away this week,
[14:55]
» but um
>> yeah, they
[14:57]
» it's kind of interesting. They had a she
she according to her communication with
[15:02]
them they had a different take on the
water test
[15:06]
» that they said you know what you all are
bringing in is sort of a contaminated
[15:11]
sample
and we'll we'll kind of you know test
[15:16]
for some it was it was less uh
authoritative I would say yes than the
[15:22]
York but we'll you know it's our option
we'll go and I just thought it was very
[15:26]
interesting that they had a slightly
different take on um
[15:29]
» this is Gity.
>> Yes. How Gity um perceived this uh self
[15:35]
uh acquiring self collection. But
>> that's because they're not a lab. Like
[15:41]
then maybe they don't realize that you
get a kit that tells you how to clean
[15:45]
your faucet and how to get a good
>> very it's very
[15:51]
so then maybe we we have to figure out
are they going to be acquiring these
[15:55]
kits like you know I don't know. Yeah.
So that just
[16:00]
» try York again because they they know
how to do the thing but they were bought
[16:04]
by somebody else. So they're under
another company. calls right now than we
[16:09]
don't and I haven't researched to see if
there's anyone else doing
[16:13]
» that's yes there's fewer and fewer now.
So
[16:16]
» yeah and then there was that whole um
issue with people coming
[16:22]
and having to go home to collect it and
come back. So we're trying to figure out
[16:27]
a way that they could have the
containers before
[16:30]
» right
>> so then it just comes once
[16:32]
» which I included in my email to them but
I haven't
[16:35]
» talked about that. I think that right
now I think we should just focus these
[16:38]
qu filter these questions over to to G
now maybe if they're going to be our
[16:42]
person
>> they might be I Karen was that contact I
[16:46]
don't know what exactly they had said I
CC
[16:50]
» yes I saw okay because
>> there's some time left for that we got a
[16:54]
couple
>> we got a little
[16:56]
» All right um
that was Earth Day anything else about
[17:00]
Earth Day you're gonna send out a list
so people can sign up
[17:03]
» yeah we'll have Yeah we'll
hours.
[17:08]
» Well, it's shorter this. It's shorter to
two. So, yeah, it's it's fewer like last
[17:12]
year it was all it was like nine to it
was all day. So, um if you you have
[17:17]
another event that's f, you know, I
think we're going to be in good shape.
[17:20]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. That's great.
[17:22]
» Try to do it this year since I'm using
rent. So, that'd be great.
[17:26]
» Um all right. Um website updates. I
guess Michelle talked earlier that the
[17:33]
town website is still not up and running
really well yet. So, we'll just wait
[17:37]
till we know that's happening. I think
you guys have got some good stuff ready
[17:42]
to go. We just need to
>> until we get that.
[17:45]
» We might at this point she managed to
get something on there that I haven't
[17:50]
figured out. Like, so you know, we keep
kind of she might be the expert at this,
[17:56]
but I don't So my question for this um
meeting was because I was wondering
[18:02]
should I take what I have and just put
it on the old website but it sounds like
[18:06]
that is not Oh okay that's not as gone
and anything that was there was captured
[18:12]
over
>> I'm going to touch base with Mandy uh
[18:15]
she's here tomorrow yeah Thursday she's
here I'll touch base with her
[18:20]
» and ask her if she's got the ability if
she's learned enough how to put things
[18:25]
on on there. And if that's the case,
then we could set up a time with her to
[18:30]
sit down
>> and go over what we'd like to change
[18:33]
there.
>> It's
[18:36]
» Yeah. So, it just looks a little
fresher, a little
[18:40]
» Yeah. And when we did our training, like
we can change these blocks around and
[18:46]
like move the menus to different sides
and stuff like that.
[18:50]
» Um, so let's see. So like Earth
newsletters, they y
[18:55]
» they managed to but this one wasn't
linked and they couldn't tell me why and
[19:00]
I haven't figured out how to upload one
yet. But
[19:03]
» you know uh I think
>> I didn't check the other
[19:08]
» resources.
This is still like the old stuff but
[19:12]
» right idea. Um
>> fairly similar to what just a little
[19:18]
different looks like the fonts are
different.
[19:21]
Shall we uh share the um what the
document that Amy and I worked on? Shall
[19:29]
we share with Mandy?
>> Well, let me go. I'll talk to Mandy
[19:33]
tomorrow. Make sure first off that she
can do this.
[19:37]
» Well,
>> that's okay. She got time.
[19:41]
» Well, I or if she does. I mean, she's
only here three half days and she does
[19:46]
all of the ticketing stuff. But if she
wants to experiment with something, you
[19:50]
know, well,
>> we might provide
[19:52]
» I'll see you guys.
>> I mean, somebody's got to you. I'm not
[19:56]
expecting Michelle, you to make all
these changes either. So, you got
[20:00]
» Well, as I learn, I'm willing to think I
understand the what we're looking for,
[20:06]
» right? Well, that's true. I know.
>> So, I think just handing it over to
[20:09]
Mandy.
>> No, I'm not. You were saying you
[20:12]
couldn't you know how to get stuff up.
I'm just going to ask if she's got the
[20:15]
if she can start doing that and
>> you can talk together.
[20:21]
Yeah.
>> All right.
[20:22]
» So, you have that document that Amy and
I work with the last one.
[20:27]
» I feel like you shared
>> she did.
[20:30]
» It's it's it's Google that.
>> Yeah. So, I probably have that sent.
[20:35]
» Okay. Let me know.
>> I didn't print it.
[20:37]
» But let me know if you have it. Yeah.
>> Right. Now, here's the other things I
[20:43]
didn't think about. One was the
conversation that uh a number of you had
[20:47]
with conservation and wet. Um
>> can you guys just give us an update on
[20:53]
they for those who don't know what um at
our last meeting was it February or
[20:59]
January?
>> January. Um uh they folks had come to
[21:03]
see if we wanted to coordinate more with
with mo mainly conservation because
[21:08]
we've done wet balls for a long time.
But anyway, um, so, uh, Julia, you were
[21:14]
available in the show. Just you went as
well.
[21:16]
» I did.
>> Okay. So, the two of you went and, um,
[21:20]
» yeah, I thought it was it was a great
conversation.
[21:23]
» Um, we kind of almost did a little bit
of business at the table like Earth,
[21:29]
like what are you doing? What are you
doing? So that was
[21:31]
» I think Earth Day is a great way to kind
of it was a great example of how we
[21:36]
could work together, how we might be
like the water thing, you know,
[21:40]
duplicating a you know effort. So Earth
was great to have that around the corner
[21:46]
as a sort of a workshop. Uh
>> agreed
[21:49]
» example. Agreed. I think one of the
takeaways I took and I mean I'm sure you
[21:54]
had some others but when they shared
what their uh
[22:00]
the conservation
uh their mission is kind of um it says
[22:08]
the first line is to support town
efforts to protect n natural resources
[22:14]
and it said including water sources you
know so I was just looking for places
[22:20]
overlap and I always associated the
conservation commission with purchasing
[22:25]
open space
>> but they they seem to have pivoted off
[22:29]
that a little bit and are are really
talking about like protecting and
[22:34]
educating and I think that's a place
where we align.
[22:38]
» Um so definitely making sure we continue
communicating. We talked about
[22:44]
how to make sure we keep the
communication open and whether there
[22:49]
should be sort of a you know heads of
the three meeting quarterly or going to
[22:55]
each other's meetings you know there I
don't remember landing on a
[22:59]
» no I think we're just talking about you
know again yeah setting up a practical
[23:04]
and efficient framework for
touching base a couple times a year and
[23:12]
we talked talked about, you know,
because they're looking for new things.
[23:15]
We're doing new things. So, it's a great
time to sort of compare calendars like
[23:20]
this is what we have slotted for the
next six months. Do you guys want to,
[23:25]
you know, collab with us? Are we are we
doing something that you already had on
[23:29]
your calendar, you know? So, um, but
just a little bit more crosspollination,
[23:34]
» right? So, um, was there
somebody who was going to coordinate
[23:41]
» Yes. a next step.
>> Okay.
[23:44]
» She Paxton took she took notes.
>> She was going to and and actually it was
[23:50]
interesting because we did definitely
talk about the notion that two of us are
[23:54]
government organizations and a third is
not right. So that there was, you know,
[23:59]
a little chatter about, well, let's do a
email group or what, you know, and we
[24:04]
were like, well, we really can't have
too much sidebar because that is um not
[24:11]
aligned with our protocols. So that was
another thing that we have to work
[24:16]
through a little bit about is um
>> but Paxton took took notes, took down
[24:22]
all the ideas. She's going to synthesize
that and right go
[24:25]
» from there.
Ryan it's the chair I guess
[24:31]
and he he seemed to like he was was on
that and
[24:36]
» very
>> right. Yeah. So they're since they've
[24:40]
met basically the goal that was in the
PC of acquiring land, they they now are
[24:46]
looking and I'm glad to hear, you know,
what they're that they're coming up with
[24:50]
things that they want to move to instead
because one of the things we talked to
[24:53]
them about when they came to the to the
budget meeting was, you know, where are
[24:58]
you going from, you know, where are you
looking to go from here? I know one
[25:01]
thing they wanted to do was an A2 survey
of that property on New Creed.
[25:06]
» Yes. They said that they were trying to
get that to be more accessible
[25:10]
27 acres.
>> So that's we Jim is convinced since we
[25:16]
purchased that. I don't think was donate
the property. I don't know if we
[25:19]
purchased it or donated to but in order
for us to take it on we would have had
[25:23]
that anyway. So we're doing some
research to see if there's a sufficient
[25:27]
mapping for that for them to to meet.
The other thing they said that they're
[25:31]
working off of uh is there's a notable
tree list at Connecticut College and um
[25:37]
so they are uh marking notable trees so
that uh planet not ever source doesn't
[25:45]
have them you know so
>> they actually talking about making like
[25:48]
a driveable map likeable
trees to look at that like that's kind
[25:54]
of
kind of a presentation fun little
[25:58]
project. Yeah,
>> that's great.
[26:02]
» They got the stone. Also,
>> there's one there's one in Grand Thean
[26:08]
575
years old.
[26:10]
» No kidding.
>> It's amazing. Can you believe it?
[26:14]
» Bigouts in Grand.
>> You're heading um towards the airport,
[26:19]
the back way on the airport from
Winstead.
[26:21]
» Yeah. Um and it's right past right past
the um post office, the Branby post
[26:29]
office or west whatever.
>> Yeah.
[26:32]
» Route 20 there. Yeah.
>> And I think it's Day Street. It's a
[26:36]
lefthand turn.
>> Just past and you go up there maybe less
[26:41]
than a quarter of a mile. Thing is
massive. Giant branches that come down
[26:46]
to the ground. It's
>> amazing. think how old that
[26:51]
» it' be really cool to have, you know, if
we have, you know, some real big thing,
[26:57]
you know, to highlight that
>> celebrate it. Yeah.
[27:01]
» Um, couple things more I had on my list.
The EV charger, I'm glad it's working.
[27:06]
And I talked to Jim and we are getting
somebody to um disconnect the one that's
[27:12]
here. So, that'll happen shortly.
>> The whole thing or just one port?
[27:15]
» I'm going to get the hoses. First thing
we want well we want to disconnect it my
[27:20]
understanding was so that we can remove
it and then have the spaces available.
[27:26]
So okay the plan is to at least I asked
and I'll I asked him before I left and
[27:32]
I'll touch base with them again about at
least get the hoses taken down so it's
[27:36]
not usable right now so we direct people
over to the other other one.
[27:40]
» Yeah. And I
>> and we have the issue with and the other
[27:44]
issue is
>> um what we're being charged.
[27:47]
» Yes.
>> And I know um remind me we're the bill
[27:50]
is
n 75% is fees right Michelle said
[27:55]
» oh yeah it's crazy. I don't have it. I
didn't bring that folder with me, but
[28:00]
yeah, I I think
>> if you could pass that info to me, I'm
[28:03]
happy to work with talk to Jim and work
on what the hell's going on here because
[28:08]
it's going to be the same over there.
That's ridiculous,
[28:11]
» you know. We'll see. See,
>> we did set up a fee and I understood the
[28:15]
fee was pretty much what was the normal
fee that's around the area. I guess you
[28:21]
guys know that
>> really.
[28:23]
» Um, okay. So, uh, I have we already
talked a little bit about the Lake
[28:28]
Warmog and the U trying to prevent the
weed that's going on, but
[28:32]
» back to EV for a minute.
>> Okay, sure. So, we have signs on the
[28:35]
way. We're
>> I I totally forgot about that. So, I got
[28:39]
to go.
>> Yeah, because they said they were going
[28:41]
to send me.
>> So, I was going to get those first and
[28:44]
then if we need to like supplement, he
said he's got arrows going both
[28:48]
directions. And I think he told me the
size and I just
[28:51]
» we don't even the size was whatever he
was going to sound was going to be
[28:55]
great.
>> Yeah.
[28:56]
» Just needs to sound
>> and then we have one holes or two holes
[29:00]
in them.
>> Two two.
[29:04]
» Okay. So Michelle, you'll follow up on
the signs and you'll get me some info
[29:08]
about them. So
>> I wrote it down.
[29:11]
» You're telling me what it
[29:15]
» but I was only there for five minutes.
Um, it does need it would be helpful to
[29:20]
have a little more sign just a sign
instructions.
[29:27]
» Instructions
>> because I know we need so we talked
[29:31]
about we need directional signs getting
people there.
[29:34]
» We need parking signs saying you know so
that it's
[29:38]
» right
>> don't park here you because it's
[29:41]
» it's kind of a small unit. It's not like
here. Yeah. Um, yeah, because the
[29:48]
problem with EV chargers, at least for
me, is every single manufacturer, every
[29:55]
single supplier is different.
>> And it's like, what do I have to do? I
[29:59]
use my card, do I have to have be a
member? Do I have to have an account? Do
[30:02]
I have
>> Yeah, there's always it's a bunch of
[30:05]
guess work. And the bigger ones have a
big screen and they tell you stuff. This
[30:09]
is a little
>> smaller, less fancy.
[30:12]
» Way way way.
[30:16]
Yeah, I went over there. That's a small
typical typical
[30:21]
charger.
>> Oh, and also I am gonna unplug share.
[30:23]
I'm gonna load up a photo of the
Chargers
[30:27]
on the website
people.
[30:31]
» Yeah. Yeah, that is that's
>> Yeah, they'll know where to go. Like
[30:34]
they'll be like, "Oh, yeah. This is what
I'm looking for."
[30:36]
» Great.
>> But it's getting better out there. I was
[30:38]
coming home from Vermont. I've been
sugaring up there. I came home two days
[30:43]
ago and uh right in Battle you see
there's a new O in it's got a big cover
[30:49]
I own I I NA is the company big big
cover over it and all work great plug
[31:00]
right in
>> how fast are they
[31:02]
» oh unbelievable
>> like a supercharger
[31:06]
» yeah these are superchargers 35 cents a
kilowatt which is unbelievable for that
[31:12]
So it's
>> well
[31:13]
» it's exciting to see
>> it's coming along. It's amazing.
[31:17]
» Um
>> it is. So, I wanted back to the uh lake
[31:22]
war, not the hy hydrilla. That's what it
is, right? But also, I know we had some
[31:27]
conversation about the bill that was up
there and um originally there was some
[31:32]
support for this bill that's trying to
go through to basically wipe out our our
[31:38]
our ordinance on on the wakebo. So,
anybody have an update of where that
[31:43]
stands? talked to Jim about it last week
because I was it's the environment
[31:47]
committee that was hearing it and I was
doing research on the the plastic bill.
[31:52]
» Um, and actually the bill that was up
was it actually protects
[31:58]
» the ordinance on this lake.
>> It allows other towns.
[32:03]
» It allows wake surfing. Um, it doesn't
allow it within 200 feet.
[32:08]
» Well,
>> but it says the towns can change that.
[32:11]
But part two of it completely protected
this ordinance. And Jim said that he was
[32:16]
there to testify
>> and he the impression he got is that
[32:22]
it's good like it's going to like this
lake war is going to be protected. I
[32:28]
think the bill is going to pass which
protect which
[32:32]
» reinforces the ordinance
>> because I read some of the comments that
[32:35]
people had sent out and you know it
sounds like and I it sounded to me just
[32:39]
like what the industry tried to tell us
that 200 feet is fine that no it doesn't
[32:44]
matter how deep it is and if they're
matched up in the pool that's that's
[32:48]
just it's unacceptable.
>> No, I wouldn't read the language of the
[32:51]
bill. It's very short. It's it's like
two sections. It says wake surfing is
[32:56]
not allowed within 20200 feet.
>> Yeah.
[33:00]
» However, towns can change that can
increase that.
[33:03]
» And how about
>> and then the sec part two is that no no
[33:08]
wake surfing on any of the lakes in Kent
Ford or Washington. Well, we only have
[33:14]
the one,
>> right?
[33:16]
» It was funny. So, if it passes as Jim
said the problem is and we've all seen
[33:21]
this is you you never know. Somebody can
go in at the 11th hour and like
[33:25]
» Well, that's Yeah, for sure. And I think
that's
[33:28]
» at at the moment it is as it it and
there's support for it and nobody wants
[33:34]
to change it.
>> Okay. Well, that's good to hear because
[33:36]
when I read some of the comments that a
few people had sent out, I was it felt
[33:41]
to me, I mean, I remember when we first
started this stuff and they had the two
[33:44]
guys from some marina over there telling
us that 200 feet didn't matter how deep,
[33:49]
you know, 20 feet was fine. And if
that's what's in the bill, then that's
[33:52]
just not it's killing anybody, you know.
So why have why have something that says
[33:57]
that
>> if every town can put in whatever they
[34:01]
want anyway? I mean, it just seems
>> it starts to protect. I guess it's
[34:05]
» it's it's saying you can't. It is weaker
than the legislation in Vermont and some
[34:11]
other states.
>> Yeah. because those states some states
[34:15]
have it's it's the the the distance from
the shore is greater and the depth is
[34:21]
significant. Yeah. So this is a less
convincing but it gives the it basically
[34:29]
reinforces the the option of towns to
create an ordinance and that it like
[34:34]
state is saying you can do that
>> that's a good shot
[34:39]
» in the absence of an ordinance it's
>> at least it's better
[34:42]
» well it's not within 200 feet but that's
better
[34:46]
» we have an but it's more than 200 feet
>> oh yeah but our bill says not yeah
[34:51]
» you can you Can the point is that any
town it's minimum of 200 but a a town
[34:57]
can change it to whatever they want to
make it more they can't make it less but
[35:01]
they can
>> they can make it more and we banned it
[35:03]
» and we banned and they hold that
>> yeah and it's part of what they've said
[35:08]
towns can
>> they sued in superior court right
[35:11]
» that's what I think they
>> that's their last harra
[35:16]
» yeah I don't know I
>> is that it's even on the even being
[35:22]
discussed. Right. Right. Because without
it potentially being, you know, without
[35:28]
the legislature looking at it, our
ordinance stands,
[35:31]
» right?
>> So,
[35:33]
if the bill passes as it is, it still
stands, but there's always the
[35:37]
opportunity.
[35:40]
» Um,
>> since we're talking about ordinance, can
[35:43]
we talk a little bit about that email
that you sent, Michelle, about the
[35:46]
plastic band? That was really
>> That put that on my list. Is that okay?
[35:50]
Sure.
>> Or do you have more?
[35:52]
» Yeah, but this I mean it's fine. Go
ahead.
[35:56]
» This is state plastic ban.
>> So this is so so eight uh house bill
[36:01]
6229
is a ban on single use plastic. It's
[36:06]
mostly on polystyrene and uh straws and
stirs and things like that. A lot of
[36:14]
other singleuse plastics. Um, I emailed
the representative Bowman Gard Gardner
[36:24]
who is the chair of the environment
committee and who um is like kind of
[36:30]
championing this and they're hoping to
bring it back on for this year. But so I
[36:36]
said, "Please let me know because my
sustainability committee wants to hold
[36:40]
that up for writing letters or whatever
you need." But while I was researching
[36:45]
it, I went and I read a lot of the
letters that they did were written last
[36:49]
year. And it was interesting. A lot of
them were, I am the chair of the
[36:54]
sustainability committee of, you know,
Winstead, whatever. And their letters
[37:01]
were incredibly informative and a lot of
them had bans in their town. And so they
[37:07]
were able to say, "We banned this in our
town. There's been no push back. there's
[37:12]
or the businesses are on board or you
know explaining how it was successful.
[37:18]
So I think we should maybe consider
doing it again.
[37:21]
» Well, yeah. What were the things that
they and it when you say single-use
[37:27]
plastic, what were the types of stuff
we're talking about? I mean, we did the
[37:31]
ban on single-use plastic bags, those,
you know, that kind.
[37:36]
» Yeah. Which, by the way, is not on our
website, but I think we I think we've
[37:40]
figured that out. Okay.
>> Um,
[37:42]
» but what are the other types of
>> So, this is the
[37:47]
» it's straw.
>> Yeah.
[37:49]
» Cutlery.
>> Uh, you know,
[37:53]
and then polyistering. So, it's all the
>> include.
[37:58]
» Yeah. So, any So, it here I have I have
the bill. Any single-use food wear
[38:04]
composed in whole or in part of
polystyrene.
[38:09]
Any packaging product composed of
polystyrene including but not limited to
[38:12]
packing peanuts or single-use plastic
straws, plastic stir, splash stick or
[38:17]
food wear accessory except that a
biodegradable or compostable straw may
[38:22]
be provided upon request.
Uh
[38:27]
includes educational methods.
>> Take takeout containers.
[38:32]
Well, if they're made of polyine, is it
called tesyone?
[38:36]
» Yeah,
styrofoam.
[38:39]
» But other ones are okay.
[38:43]
» Included.
[38:47]
» No, it is not included in this
in this legislation. We we you know we
[38:57]
did this work before the state banned
the plast single plastic used bags and
[39:01]
then maybe two months later the state
passed it but we've been working on that
[39:05]
for a while. In fact it was one of the
things we worked on with wet back in
[39:08]
when we first got started here. I I I
think it would be great if we if the
[39:13]
state's not going to do it that we I've
thought about this in the past straws
[39:17]
and those kind of things that we we do
that. I mean, I think
[39:21]
» single
>> we had no use with problems with with
[39:24]
places when we did the plastic bagu
thing. So,
[39:28]
» so it says disposable plastic products
intended for one time use, including
[39:33]
cutlery, straws, stirs, splashs, and
food wear accessories.
[39:38]
Foodear accessories. I don't see a
definition for foodware accessory. Like,
[39:43]
is a clamshell an accessory? I
>> That one's a little weird. But what was
[39:48]
interesting is so if you go to um the
bring your own which I'm going I want to
[39:55]
actually bring that up because it is
it's so I have it saved on my computer
[40:00]
but um
[40:05]
it has all of the towns and their
ordinances
[40:11]
um
by ordinance. So, for example, here's
[40:17]
Westport. They have plastic food service
products ordinance. It tells you when it
[40:23]
was passed. And if you click on it, it
you get the language.
[40:25]
» So, we can just look at
>> they had a ban,
[40:30]
» uh, you know, for the bats. Uh, so
Norwalk, they've got plastic straw,
[40:35]
polystyrene,
>> polystyrene ban. So, we could, are we on
[40:40]
that website? So, we are
so Middletown, Greenwich, Western
[40:46]
Washington, but there are no links
because it's not on our website.
[40:50]
» No date. So, I looked up the date. Yeah.
>> And I found I talked to Mandy. We're
[40:55]
gonna get it on there.
>> I'm gonna let them know.
[40:57]
» It's in our ordinance group that we um
That's great. But
[41:04]
as the poly styamine,
I'm always confused. Which is that the
[41:10]
stuff like if you buy meat in a grocery
store?
[41:14]
» And the clam.
>> So I get the clamshell thing. Yeah. But
[41:18]
that's usually
>> Oh, yes. Yes.
[41:22]
» Yeah. Yeah. So does that mean then if
you're the Washington food market that
[41:27]
you can't use that
>> Yeah.
[41:29]
» to to set.
>> But if we Yeah.
[41:32]
» I'm just I just approve it that like
when I pulled this is the Groutton
[41:37]
ordinance.
It's really long. I already know this,
[41:41]
» but they did an exemption for the
butcher.
[41:46]
» We could rec what I think before we just
go full force. I think we should talk to
[41:54]
most of our restaurants have already
done. I think we should reach out to
[41:57]
them and just say, "Hey,
>> how would this affect you?" You know,
[42:01]
» we did a similar thing when we did the
plastic bag. We talked to the WB.
[42:05]
there's a cardboard wax
>> that's suitable, great. If not, you
[42:11]
know, maybe we make a few exceptions.
And I think we should talk to the
[42:15]
schools. I don't know what they're
doing, but
[42:17]
» I mean, you know, in most of these
things, schools, hospitals are exempt,
[42:23]
you don't mean I I bet,
>> but I think this state one is not exempt
[42:30]
schools. I think it's because it said
any
[42:33]
» those schools and hospitals don't they
have they have um regulations beyond you
[42:38]
know like they're
>> outside of
[42:40]
» Yeah. Yeah. They're fulfilling
>> what Yeah. I mean, I don't know if the
[42:45]
like the Fed food service program
doesn't talk about anything like how you
[42:49]
package or deliver, you know, that
doesn't they don't they don't mandate
[42:53]
how you do that stuff, but it's the big
you're dealing with all the big
[42:56]
companies Cisco and the other food
service that do that you that deliver
[43:00]
most of the food to the schools. It's
not like they're buying stuff locally or
[43:04]
anything.
Well, I think when we approach the
[43:08]
businesses, we also shall have some kind
of um solutions for their, you know, so
[43:14]
like replacements and we can keep them
>> some kind of guidance. So,
[43:21]
how many place restaurants have the
[43:27]
» Yeah, a lot of them have switched
because they don't have
[43:30]
» but there was nobody nearby in the list.
It looks like it's uh hugging the shore.
[43:36]
» Yeah.
>> And we don't have any neighbors that we
[43:40]
can turn to.
>> Can we do this? I My thought was rather
[43:44]
let's see what happens with this bill
because if the bill does come out and it
[43:49]
gets approved,
>> then we have that. and we have that and
[43:52]
we could look to see if it doesn't get
approved then I think I would like to
[43:56]
see us follow through and see talk to
WBA talk to the locals and
[44:01]
» the bill that's being proposed by the
state it says this provision the
[44:05]
provision shall not apply to any
packaging product composed of
[44:09]
polystyrene or containing polystyrene
that is one used for prepackaged food
[44:16]
that was filled and sealed prior to
receipt by the retail establishment
[44:21]
Two is used to contain or store raw or
frozen meat or seafood sold from a
[44:27]
butcher case or similar retail. Or three
is a cooler ice chest provided
[44:31]
polystyrene is fully encased in another
material.
[44:35]
» So butcher
>> would be exempted by the state bill.
[44:42]
» Well, but my thought is let's see what
the state if it does pass something and
[44:46]
we can work from there then to say we
want to go work.
[44:49]
» Yeah. And it says right here, you know,
if this passes, it says it does not
[44:53]
prohibit any municipality from from
adopting stricter ordinances.
[44:58]
» So, you'll keep us up to date on where
that is.
[45:01]
» So, we'll keep an eye on that bill, but
in the meantime, we can maybe start
[45:04]
drafting. I haven't gone to all of
those, but you know, if we sort of use
[45:09]
the state language as a base to start
from,
[45:12]
» I think that's a great place to start
from if they don't pass it because it's
[45:15]
clearly something that's going to come
around again, I'm sure. Yeah, I think
[45:19]
so. So, too,
>> right, great. Um, I have one other thing
[45:24]
that two things on my list and you might
>> ask.
[45:28]
» Yeah, go ahead.
>> Well, with the cans, the return of what
[45:32]
we
>> Oh, we have some news.
[45:35]
» We did that today. Did you?
>> So, I found out that the New Preston
[45:42]
Congregational Church is collecting
returnables to raise money for their
[45:47]
steeple. And apparently they've been
they they she pastor up there told me
[45:52]
they have a bin at the trans station.
>> No, they have three.
[45:56]
» Okay. What?
>> It is
[46:00]
my garage.
>> Yeah. No. SOS. Save our steeple. So, at
[46:05]
the corner where the glass is, and there
were a whole bunch of composting bins.
[46:10]
Now, there are three large drum bins for
this bottle collection for the steeple.
[46:16]
There's a big sign. They're going to be
adding uh yeah, adding a website link
[46:21]
blah blah blah blah, but you could take
your cans, all any returnable,
[46:25]
» and put it in these very well marked
packaged. I think they said they have
[46:31]
one at the church
>> and you know I don't know if we want to
[46:36]
put one here. She was going to talk to
she said we'll put them anywhere. People
[46:40]
love that.
>> Be great to have them here because I
[46:42]
mean like I come down here.
>> Well, Jim and I are talking about moving
[46:46]
this over to um o over to Titus Park
>> and u and having it you know make I no
[46:53]
not building it a building but some kind
of you know a little bit more shelter
[46:58]
over it. So that would be the perfect
>> Oh, that's a great idea over the if it's
[47:04]
just like a
>> like a pavilion, you know, cover the
[47:07]
charger and
>> the stuff.
[47:09]
» So So that'd be great. So I don't see
any reason why, you know.
[47:13]
» So I don't see any reason to duplicate
efforts. They wanted to donate to
[47:17]
charity anyway. So
>> So can we get a article? Can we get an
[47:21]
article for them? And uh
>> I asked her to write me one.
[47:24]
» Yeah. Great. But
>> I mean, we don't
[47:27]
» It's great to hear it's going somewhere
else. Yeah.
[47:29]
» But we can also maybe put something in
I'll put something in board and uh
[47:34]
» yeah,
>> you know, commissions because I just
[47:36]
again people do different things.
>> Yeah, that's great.
[47:40]
» Thank you. Glad to hear that.
>> I took a picture.
[47:44]
» Oh, of the the bins. Okay, cool. So, we
can put that in the newsletter.
[47:48]
» And then they're going to have a link.
They're going to have a a website so
[47:51]
people can actually I went to their
website today and there's nothing
[47:55]
» for your website transfer station. It's
for you.
[48:00]
» It's for the new Preston.
>> Yeah. No, there's a big picture of the
[48:03]
church that Jim or somebody but
>> it's SOS. I mean I'm not
[48:09]
very clear.
>> I'm sure the reason why not.
[48:12]
» No, me either. I have no idea.
>> That's great.
[48:14]
» Yep. Um, I wanted to just mention on the
steep rocks and I want to talk to Brian.
[48:21]
I haven't seen him lately. So, yeah.
>> Um, but I know on uh steep rock uh in
[48:27]
the town last year uh hired a company to
do some knocked uh remediation along the
[48:34]
Chicago from the where it starts up in
near
[48:38]
BAM there and then down to the
firehouse. They're planning to do work
[48:43]
there again and then working their way
down the rest of
[48:48]
the month with some new uh plants or new
chemicals supposed to be
[48:54]
» uh what I don't know if they've changed
from what they used last year but what
[48:57]
they use
>> yeah the one yes it's much more it's
[49:01]
much less invasive than the other one
>> um and we've agreed the town has agreed
[49:07]
we're we're splitting the cost of steep
rock so that's that's been put in our
[49:12]
budget for next year as well. And I know
Steve Rockck contacted us to want to
[49:16]
make sure we were we were doing that
>> successful.
[49:19]
» Yeah. And that's what I
>> Well, I was going to ask Brian uh
[49:23]
tonight, but I will I asked actually
Rory had sent me something and I asked
[49:27]
him if he would write something up and
keep us up to date about, you know,
[49:31]
they're all looking to the spring to see
how what happens. You know, how how
[49:34]
successful it is. that my understanding
was it's a two or three year process to
[49:39]
really and you're never going to get it
all but you know at least that's to get
[49:43]
them under control. So he really won't
have an idea until really
[49:46]
» once things start uh growing again which
could be sooner than you know so um but
[49:52]
I'll ask them about an update on that if
they're going to write an article let
[49:57]
them know it needs to be by March 26.
Yeah. I um I watch uh YouTube videos
[50:02]
about English ho houses and somebody
like she was like, "Yeah, we were gonna
[50:06]
buy a different house, but we um backed
out because of the not not with the
[50:09]
Japanese not like it's like a invasive
species is a reason to like back out of
[50:14]
a house to you."
>> Yeah. if you're trying to battle it and
[50:19]
your goal is to put in a beautiful
garden and all you're doing
[50:22]
» well I'm just like I don't think anybody
really there's no no invasive species
[50:28]
like part of your you know
>> contract
[50:30]
» a contract here you know the inspections
>> yeah yes I thought that was very
[50:35]
interesting
>> talked to Brian a couple times about
[50:38]
them doing some kind of a workshop for
folks you know like we've done on
[50:43]
invasive species and what you can do at
your house so I'm going to ask him about
[50:47]
that
trying to get him to talk about him with
[50:50]
with Earth Day. But um
>> well, it's a great segue for my next my
[50:53]
last thing, which is Garden Palooa,
>> which is the event that is at Judy Black
[51:01]
Park the Saturday before the farmers
markets start. And this year it's going
[51:06]
to be even more. We we've set up there
for the last few years. We usually bring
[51:12]
information about invasive species, not
just plants, but animal like bugs and
[51:17]
stuff. Um,
and they're this year they have a bunch
[51:22]
of speakers lined up and so it's usually
about starting your spring garden,
[51:27]
composting,
uh, native plant, sometimes they've had
[51:31]
pollinator information, bees, so a lot
of the topics that we talk about. So
[51:37]
that would be a good time for Brian to
do a sweet thing and I also just wanted
[51:42]
to see if we wanted to be there again.
>> That's Judy Black Park.
[51:46]
» It's May 16th May 10 to one.
>> Yes,
[51:51]
» we were there apparently last year. She
said, "We really appreciate your
[51:56]
» I wasn't there. Maybe Chicago."
>> What?
[51:59]
» Maybe I didn't.
>> I don't. Or maybe we just didn't.
[52:02]
» I just I think I didn't. It was the uh
lantern.
[52:07]
» Yes. She said she saved the lantern.
I think he Atlanta.
[52:14]
And I still have some of those cards
about the ashore,
[52:19]
you know, that we got from the tree
warden years ago. These like little
[52:22]
identifiable cards or something
>> there next week.
[52:27]
» I'm not
[52:31]
representation. You're gonna be able to
make it. I put it in my calendar. Is
[52:35]
it's a Monday kind of.
>> No, it shouldn't be. May 16th.
[52:40]
» May 16.
>> May 16, the Saturday.
[52:43]
» What was the time?
>> 10 to 1, I think.
[52:49]
» Be there for that one. You know, just
put it on in our brains by then. We'll
[52:54]
be
>> through the newsletter so we can think
[52:58]
about what we want to have.
>> Yeah.
[53:00]
» Right.
>> Um,
[53:04]
I guess two things under new business.
One was uh just Sarah you had mentioned
[53:10]
something about composting over talking
to people at Washington Primary School
[53:16]
to have the Yes.
>> I believe they they are doing that up at
[53:20]
the high school if I'm not mistaken. I
think the ACT program was doing that.
[53:24]
» I'm pretty sure they they remember
>> in the equipment list we were there
[53:30]
buying some stuff for for that. I'm
pretty sure at the high school I can't
[53:33]
guarant but I I know they they
that was in the
[53:37]
» Did you get the the information I sent
you about? Sorry. Yeah. So, that's
[53:41]
great. They have um
>> So, shall we try to implement in the
[53:49]
other schools or check how they're
doing?
[53:52]
» It would be great to to talk with them.
Um I'm not sure what was the lunch
[53:56]
program now at the primary school. I
>> remember it wasn't one when my kids went
[54:02]
there.
There's been
[54:07]
» composting recycling kind of comes and
go like the kindergarten they have like
[54:11]
a a bin they they did kind of depends on
the you have to have a teacher somebody
[54:17]
passionate in
>> once that teacher goes apparently the
[54:22]
» often does maybe even a parent support
or teacher the teacher is going to get
[54:27]
so much done today.
>> Yeah.
[54:28]
» Yeah. maybe the parent and the parents
move on.
[54:31]
» So if there's willing like I I have a
feeling Emily Jud who's the principal
[54:37]
would be willing but is not going to be
willing to create a lot of extra work
[54:41]
for her janitorial staff etc. there's
support or a plan or you know I secure I
[54:49]
mean you cannot have the bears showing
up to the playground like you have
[54:52]
» damaged you we don't want it
>> yeah I know it has to be a pretty secure
[54:58]
» just do are you comfortable talking with
Emily just to see what is their food
[55:03]
program and what are they doing because
until then we really can't organize a
[55:07]
plan unless we know what they're doing I
think
[55:10]
» in the cafeteria
>> they eat lunches Right. Right.
[55:14]
» Right. And bring it from home. So
there's food scrap regardless of whether
[55:17]
it's
>> Right. True. True.
[55:19]
» So you think the the best school to
>> and try to implement or to see what
[55:25]
they're doing is the Washington data
premier?
[55:28]
» They they already are at Frederick Gun
School
[55:32]
uh because they have a compost. But see
that's that's where I think we can help.
[55:39]
Frederick Gun has the same company that
picks up our compost at the transfer
[55:44]
station pick up there.
>> Great.
[55:46]
» Um, so they're already doing it.
>> I don't know about Rumy.
[55:53]
» Monica is composting it themselves. I
don't think they're having it picked up.
[55:56]
I think they like their service.
>> And so
[56:01]
» the Chicago is there.
>> I'll check with them because I I have to
[56:06]
I I'm I believe they're doing that, but
I'll double check with them.
[56:12]
» At the high school,
>> the high school.
[56:14]
» Yeah.
[56:19]
» I don't think And they should really do
because they're the agro.
[56:23]
» Yeah. Yeah. I thought the egg science
pro that was part of what I understood
[56:26]
that
>> I think they going to two but I don't
[56:30]
you approach and then I will ask Emily
um
[56:36]
» J
[56:39]
knowing that you can have it be up
>> you just the thing is you have to pay
[56:46]
for it and um
>> well well that is one thing I mean I
[56:51]
keep saying this if with if and when we
by the comp the the transfer station.
[56:56]
The my thought has been for years that
we set up our own composting. Although
[57:01]
trying to set it up with the state is
just a nightmare, but didn't work.
[57:04]
There's bears in my backyard.
>> That's my house right there.
[57:09]
» Are you close? Are you right? Well, they
don't those bear proof containers, man.
[57:14]
They work up there from what they tell
me. So, I couldn't get the damn open.
[57:20]
You're not a
>> I don't think it's been broken into back
[57:23]
here.
>> But they do attract, but they, you know,
[57:26]
they know they can't get in there.
>> They smell it and they come wandering
[57:31]
over my house.
>> Yeah. Know I made everybody in our
[57:35]
association at Kent by them if they
weren't going to pick up their, you
[57:38]
know, with their own garbage pickup. And
one day one of the neighbors saw that
[57:41]
bear was dragging it down the road
trying to get and then it just left the
[57:46]
garbage can in the middle of the road.
It never got it never got.
[57:50]
» All right. So, let's do that then and um
I'll check with and I'll let you know
[57:53]
what I find from there.
>> Um I put on the uh under new business
[57:59]
about doing the POCD. So um we well I
just I would like to just ask folks I
[58:07]
brought
>> there's a copy online that you can get
[58:10]
that's there and there's one section
here called municipal facilities and
[58:14]
infrastructure that really is where they
talk about sustainability and there um
[58:20]
the way they set this up is there if you
haven't looked at this it's a great
[58:24]
document really I mean if you haven't
looked at it Carol has looked at it an
[58:28]
awful lot since she's on the planning
committee that that did the work. Um,
[58:33]
but there are sections here where they
talk about work. Uh, uh, they at the at
[58:38]
the end of each chapter they have
objectives for 20 24 objectives. So, and
[58:43]
then they list the various objectives
that they're looking and who what what
[58:49]
board commission whatever committee is
they see as responsible for. So, there
[58:53]
are a bunch here that um that relate to
the sustainability committee. Um there
[58:59]
just there's just really this uh two
pages but I would like to have us I mean
[59:06]
one create said for bike bicycling
pathways is different difficult in this
[59:10]
town but u maintain municipal vehicles
institute and I lead policy something
[59:15]
we've done already uh there are some
things that but I'd like to people to
[59:20]
look at this and or I can send out this
c this page next time and and um and
[59:25]
just take a look at it and let's talk
about if there's stuff in in here. I
[59:29]
mean, there's a thing about green
cleaning and which I read because we're
[59:34]
we have various cleaning companies that
come to a few of our buildings, the fire
[59:39]
department um over at the senior center
and uh I forget there's another place.
[59:46]
So, we're going to do one put up some
specs and go out to bid for one
[59:50]
contract. and make sure part of the bid
kit says that you need to use clean
[59:56]
green cleaning products in in that area.
>> We do that we do that here. I mean I
[1:00:02]
know Mark when when we we were doing it
beforehand but I know Mark is our who's
[1:00:07]
leading as our facilities manager has
been doing that. He did it all
[1:00:11]
» leaving or leading
>> leaving. You didn't know that. I thought
[1:00:15]
it was pretty well known since we tal
about it. Well, yep. He's he's retiring
[1:00:19]
from here as well. Uh, I think I know
Jim is if they haven't posted a job,
[1:00:25]
they're getting ready to immediately.
>> Yeah, it's like the end of end of this
[1:00:29]
month, I think. And he asked Jim asked
me to be on the interview. So,
[1:00:35]
» I think they know who they want, but I'm
not I haven't I don't know yet. So,
[1:00:38]
» okay.
>> Um, okay.
[1:00:40]
» But, but we do that in the town as well,
but I want to make sure whoever if we've
[1:00:44]
got hiring cleaning companies, they're
doing that same kind of work. So, um, so
[1:00:48]
anyway, I'll send this out to everybody
that you can take a look at it and, uh,
[1:00:52]
we're doing a lot more than what's
listed here, obviously, but, um, you
[1:00:55]
know, we should take a look at it. It's
really
[1:00:58]
» the town's guide to what's what what we
should be doing. And there actually some
[1:01:02]
good stuff here when you think about
housing in particular and reading about
[1:01:06]
the reg zoning regulations and things
that we need to change to allow more
[1:01:10]
affordable housing and cluster housing
and multifamily housing and all the good
[1:01:15]
stuff that hopefully throughout the
>> Yeah. Oh, it's in every section
[1:01:21]
» plan of conservation and development.
And if you go on the website,
[1:01:28]
» if you go on the website there, the new
one is there. I believe I haven't.
[1:01:33]
» So, so if you look up here under boards
and commissions on the town website, if
[1:01:38]
you go to the planning commission,
>> right?
[1:01:42]
» It's right here
>> and it's 2024 PC.
[1:01:45]
» No, it's not that long a document.
>> Yeah, it's much than the previous
[1:01:54]
but you know and some nice pictures too
in here.
[1:01:58]
Those are yours. They're beautiful. I
mean, I
[1:02:02]
» So, it's worth looking. I mean, it's
worth for you to read the whole thing
[1:02:05]
really because there's some great stuff
in here and and some good goals.
[1:02:10]
» Uh, the first one I ever read was in 200
[1:02:16]
14, but what was it? One more was 2001
four.
[1:02:21]
» And um there's still stuff that was from
the 2004 that still are in the 2024 that
[1:02:26]
we haven't accomplished yet. But that's
what that's one of the other things
[1:02:29]
that's great is that that committee
makes sure they follow up and they don't
[1:02:33]
» Yeah.
>> Don't drop stuff just because, you know,
[1:02:36]
nobody's done anything. So, I just
wanted to ask about that.
[1:02:38]
» Is that a conservation?
>> No, the planning commission,
[1:02:43]
» but there's there's something for every
committee, commission, or board in this
[1:02:47]
back in this thing.
>> It's nice. So, if you look at the way
[1:02:50]
it's laid out, um I'll just use the
first. So, this
[1:02:57]
That's really actually just a history of
it
[1:03:00]
» which is great
>> and the demographics in the house and
[1:03:05]
» so
I actually remember that because there
[1:03:08]
there's a link on our website to this
>> right probably but what is great is at
[1:03:14]
the end you know they talk about the
goals the issues the strategies but then
[1:03:19]
under the objectives under responsible
parties this one is zoning commission
[1:03:25]
planning commission and housing
Right. And here you know with board of
[1:03:29]
selectmen board of finance the the
responsible parties these other chapters
[1:03:34]
sustain sustainability committee is the
responsible party some of the goals. So
[1:03:40]
we should really
see a lot in other
[1:03:45]
» Yeah. for sustainability. I did
[1:03:51]
» but there are some things there that
even if they don't list us we really
[1:03:54]
have could
>> have thought about it or talked about
[1:03:58]
it.
>> I don't want to make you dizzy but
[1:04:02]
» where was the next chapter? Um,
[1:04:09]
municipal here. So, under municipal
[1:04:15]
» uh
>> yeah, facilities.
[1:04:20]
» No, they even talk. What I like here too
is that they
[1:04:23]
» efforts with other sustainability
organizations,
[1:04:27]
» right?
>> The next page is where
[1:04:31]
a lot of the
>> Oh, yeah. There we are.
[1:04:35]
school for vehicles policy items
>> sustainable practices
[1:04:40]
cycling expand transfer station
>> you know I really does anybody know any
[1:04:45]
is there any way to just recycle uh
cardboard separately
[1:04:50]
» we should is I don't I keep meaning to
do some research to see if there's a way
[1:04:55]
to do it
>> because there's so much of that yeah I
[1:04:58]
know separating would be
>> that's what I've undone
[1:05:02]
» because what's
because right now it's all
[1:05:06]
» well and that's why most of it doesn't
get recycled because it's it's all
[1:05:11]
contaminated and so and I think of
cardboard is probably being the biggest
[1:05:16]
easiest thing to separate out
>> and I last I heard it still has value if
[1:05:20]
it's clean
>> keep meaning to do some research to see
[1:05:23]
is there somebody
even the company we use would they the
[1:05:29]
recycling company if we separated it
would they
[1:05:33]
would they be able to recycle more? It
would seem like they should because
[1:05:36]
that's what they're trying to do.
>> Um but I
[1:05:40]
» So putting cardboard in its own stream
basically.
[1:05:43]
» Exactly. And and I don't like the
picking, you know, we all pick it up.
[1:05:47]
You know, you have a bin out there and
you throw it and that's how so much
[1:05:50]
stuff gets that gets
>> contaminated because people throw we all
[1:05:54]
know. I'm sure I'll say I know I've done
it. You throw stuff in there that
[1:06:00]
probably shouldn't be thrown in there.
I'm not sure. I'll put it in there. That
[1:06:03]
kind of thing.
>> It must It must go through. It'll be
[1:06:08]
fine. It's plastic, right? So, what the
heck?
[1:06:10]
» That was very good at the uh the ladies
from the transfer station said the pizza
[1:06:15]
box with a little bit of oil. It's just
terrible for the recycling profit.
[1:06:21]
» So, anyway, that's I'm I keep meaning to
to do that.
[1:06:25]
» That would be really interesting. I'm
curious, too. So anyway, if you get
[1:06:30]
» the dirty because it gets
>> take off the
[1:06:36]
lid
>> I get pizza from this pizza place in
[1:06:40]
Watertown and they usually have two
sheets there. So when you take what you
[1:06:45]
underneath the pizza. So the first one's
destroyed, but the bottom one, you take
[1:06:50]
that out and the and the cardboard is
clean and you could So they'll make if
[1:06:54]
you put it in your bin at the at the top
of your driveway, the guys will take it
[1:06:59]
out and
>> they you know, but if you go up to the
[1:07:03]
trans transfer station, lose it and and
Lydia want to look at it, but they'll
[1:07:08]
let you can recycle it if you uh
>> The problem with the cardboard is the
[1:07:13]
plastic tape. people just kind of hide
it. But all that plastic tape still
[1:07:19]
gets, you know,
>> but if we could
[1:07:22]
» educate people,
>> educate people and and take it out and
[1:07:25]
and find it can be recycled because
that's why so much of
[1:07:29]
» what they say 75% of the stuff just goes
to landfill because it's all
[1:07:33]
contaminated.
>> When we had Richie Pizza,
[1:07:37]
» he would give you 50 cents if you
brought the box.
[1:07:40]
» No kidding.
>> That's fantastic.
[1:07:44]
suggest to the pizza place here.
[1:07:49]
» You got to think the box is here. Where
do the oils?
[1:07:52]
» Yeah.
[1:07:56]
» All these kind of
shut down
[1:07:59]
» 25 years.
>> Anything else anybody has for the good
[1:08:03]
of the uh of the group or just something
they want to share that has nothing? Um
[1:08:09]
we we had Sarah Gili sign up to join.
>> I got in touch with her, told her she is
[1:08:16]
not interested in necessarily joining
the committee, but she was interested in
[1:08:20]
participating. Could ask her if she
wants to man the booth at the Earth Day.
[1:08:24]
Uh
>> she always does.
[1:08:25]
» Yeah. So she had she had said that she'd
be happy to do some work for things
[1:08:30]
we're working on, but she didn't want to
>> she didn't want to
[1:08:33]
» join.
[1:08:36]
All right.
>> Anything else?
[1:08:42]
» Anybody want to second it?
[1:08:48]
» Not taking a photo.
[1:08:51]
» Well, thank you everybody. That is my
perfect time. really is.
