[19:23] don't have to be strangers great thank you and you're in good hands

[19:32] Metzger yep so we met last week with our other two people that are on our

[19:36] committee with us um and we have a couple of initiatives

[19:41] in the works we are coming out with a new version of the cassette we'll be

[19:46] probably looking for some volunteers to help with that project and then

[19:50] um we're also working on potentially a grant do you want to talk about that for

[19:54] a second yeah he's not in the committee but he's honorary yeah so uh rural

[19:58] broadband internet uh is really coming to Georgia in the near future and it's

[20:01] in a different way uh we're looking at a lot of Federal grant money that's about

[20:06] to come down so really working with the communication committee I'm really

[20:09] excited it's one of the things I'm really focused on for my ten years

[20:11] improving internet access in Winterville um so uh you know moving forward we

[20:16] really want to be set up and prepared to get that Grant and fund money so if

[20:21] we're first in line then we're gonna get the most so trying to get there

[20:25] sweet good job put out a call that we could

[20:29] another I would say member or two I'm a Communications committee so if you or

[20:34] anyone that you know is looking for a way to get involved that's not super

[20:39] time consuming we do meet quarterly right now but yeah things like The

[20:43] Gazette um just you know kind of spread the news

[20:46] of City happenings and certain work on the Broadband Grant are kind of our

[20:50] major uh projects right now and so potentially

[20:54] um photos from the community articles from the community that sort of thing

[20:58] yeah um would be great so we'll put an official call out on social media

[21:32] the storage and collections building from a slab to a building with Rafters

[21:37] and almost a full route so things are just preceding at a blistering pace and

[21:42] I could not be happier or more proud of what these guys are doing they are rock

[21:46] stars when the building is finished we do hope to have an open house

[21:50] celebration and fundraising event just to let people see you know what's going

[21:54] in there it will be more than a shed Bruce

[21:59] storage facility storage and conservation

[22:04] so very excited about that I know what that'll let us do for the back half the

[22:09] museum as well um I got the garden gate installed this

[22:13] the past couple days which finishes up that side of that project the fence came

[22:18] in at about 60 under budget so I was very happy for that oh speaking of Tom's

[22:23] identified other cost saving measures of the new building too so again another

[22:27] Feathering his cap let's see oh we've identified 17 plants

[22:33] it looks like early spring is probably going to be best for planting rather

[22:36] than fall um I think everybody knew that about me

[22:39] so we're gonna have those going in shortly and then I'll update the

[22:43] grantees the Jordan Humanities information about that throughout the

[22:48] course of the Year 2022 we brought in sixteen hundred dollars in donations and

[22:52] sales that was through our weekly fundraisers and donations from citizens

[22:56] so that money went entirely to paying off the upgrades and Renovations we did

[23:02] in the spring and going forward now all additional Revenue goes straight to the

[23:06] city for that um because we will continue to do those

[23:09] you know just in perpetuity uh we've had several soft opening tours over the past

[23:15] couple of weeks we're gonna have our first paying Tour on November 16th uh we

[23:19] got some students from uh UGA archeology lab coming out to tour the facility so

[23:24] that'll be another source of Revenue I'm also currently writing third and fifth

[23:28] grade social study tours as well as high school science tours based on the

[23:33] Georgia standards of excellence so we'll start to have tours coming through here

[23:37] hopefully about 60 to 80 students at a time volunteers will be helping with

[23:41] those as well we have a new exterior sign that I picked up today because you

[23:45] probably all seen the janky open sign we have out there

[23:48] so we're having a much nicer thing going there this week

[23:53] and lastly um I'm starting putting out some video

[23:56] updates on the proceedings at the Museum so people can understand what all this

[24:00] flurry of activity is and what our plans are and just trying to make people have

[24:04] some ownership in this little Museum in their community and that's my report

[25:10] um it made them turn out a lot nicer everybody was

[25:15] very pleased at the end so we hope to be doing more path

[25:21] um when someone might have something going

[25:25] with coil metal now uh School library and they aren't dropped

[25:31] by car Library we have a nice chat and

[25:36] um she invited me to their Fall Festival and we ought to be doing some Outreach

[25:45] um Sam is going to go over there Sam has a lot of experience with working with

[25:51] teens from co-working Hawkinsville so she'll be going over there either to

[25:58] uh give a program or just work side by side

[26:08] and let's see what else um we're starting an additional book

[26:13] club um we've had several of our members

[26:18] request a daytime book club because they don't want to drive at

[26:23] night so um that'll probably take a while to get

[26:27] going but it is to go and we hope to start in January and meet on the second

[28:53] concerns about the amount of people in the lighting from last year until we get

[28:57] that addressed fully we're going to move it back into pittard Park

[29:02] um for Christmas in the Park this year and Santa Claus will be down

[29:07] Santa Claus will be down in right he's coming

[29:14] um to the lower Pavilion uh so

[29:18] um that will be exciting uh George Arbors Association through tree climbing

[29:24] event is two weeks from now um the 19th yeah 19th looking forward to

[29:31] that I did uh meet with the principal um Winterville Elementary School and our

[29:38] um our partnership with them has resulted in these little mini libraries

[29:43] 25 of these that will go in local businesses they'll go in City Hall in

[29:47] the library hopefully with little books that the kids can come and get a photo

[29:52] opportunity and they get a bookmark to uh to promote reading throughout the

[29:58] holidays so when they're home from school we want to drive them and we'll

[30:02] talk about that if you're okay with that but City Hall for sure Community Center

[30:05] for sure local businesses a window cling goes with that so that's a great

[30:10] promotion for Winterville is a buzzing for reading

[30:15] whatever the program was called um

[30:19] and also another opportunity for us that she brought to me which is great that

[30:24] will kick off in the spring hopefully if Council wants to um partner with the

[30:28] school again one book one family one Community One Love

[30:32] and they're going to pick a book and they're going to have yard signs for

[30:35] each family each citizen to do read this specific book the entire city and then

[30:42] create a Project based around the book put a sign in your yard that created the

[30:46] project and then you get a plant to plant in your yard and having done that

[30:50] and they want to do this annually and we might kick it off on Arbor Day so I

[30:55] talked to the principal about connecting her with tree commission community

[31:00] garden folks to maybe make this our community-wide initiative that we can do

[31:04] annually where beautifies the city while promoting

[31:08] literacy and reading and young ones and adults pretty cool program

[31:13] so a lot of uh a lot of good stuff coming from Winterville Elementary

[31:18] School and the new Administration there um

[31:22] movie night in the auditorium December 9th I mean first December is coming up

[31:27] quick so December 9th is movie night we have a lot of uh

[31:32] um concerts and and events in the auditorium before the end of the year so

[31:38] check those out on the Winterville Auditorium website but movie night we

[31:42] haven't decided on a movie night or yet but what it's I thought it was always

[31:47] going to be It's a Wonderful Life it can be but I don't know

[31:51] I talked to Lisa Mindy today and she said she would come do a question q a

[31:58] um uh God the Bill Murray movie um Scrooge Scrooged that she's in

[32:05] she's in that movie and she's gonna come introduce it and then do a q a for that

[32:10] movie so we'll talk about it yeah anyway I believe when is Christmas

[33:16] right now so that means Winterville um I went to a really great three round

[33:22] table and what I come out of that knowing was as far as developers and

[33:30] plans we have to follow the process and Trust the process we have a good tree

[33:35] ordinance in place if it fails us or if it leaks in some way we address that we

[33:42] upgrade and the um the arborist from Alpharetta was there he was currently

[33:47] the president of the Georgia tree Council and he views his tree ordinance

[33:51] as a living document and he just keeps amending it and changing it so that it's

[33:58] always current so that was really great um I got some really great contact

[34:04] information I applied for a grant for us for Community urban forestry technical

[34:09] support for 2012 three green infrastructure is all the buzz

[34:16] right now um so like green corridors and our

[34:21] Firefly Trail we had some really great speakers the conference was in Rome and

[34:27] Rome's a really cool and awesome place I had never been there they have an

[34:31] arboretum they call theirs an arboretum like our row of commemorative trees is

[34:35] very similar to their Arboretum so if we wanted to spice it up and add a little

[34:41] variety of maybe some under plantings we too could have an arboretum along the

[34:46] Firefly Trail

[34:49] something to think about because one thing we've talked about in the tree

[34:54] council is like well we're running out of space to plant trees but you could

[34:57] have a commemorative shrub or a commemorative Daisy or you know

[35:02] we a commemorative literacy award plan

[35:08] um so there that we also had to talk oh and in Rome they've had a tree ordinance

[35:15] since um 1996 and they've got some really

[35:20] great um streetscaping so it all began with a

[35:25] concept plan and when I was at your meeting on December on October 24th uh I

[35:31] forgot her name from The Downtown Development Authority had

[35:36] um as stressed her need to have a concept plan and I think one of the

[35:40] ladies at that meeting was gonna hook her up with an architect so when we get

[35:45] the concept plan of what we want downtown Winterville to look like I mean

[35:50] just like the marigold Collective that's the way it's going to happen and the way

[35:55] they've made it thriving downtown in both Rome and Greenville is to get the

[35:59] cars out of downtown and make it walkable so we were talking about

[36:04] parking for the Firefly Trail that's just something to keep in mind as we

[36:08] move forward that when people are driving around they don't see all the

[36:13] little shops or all the little they don't see

[36:17] so when people are walking they see and another thing that was really

[36:21] interesting to me to me from the Greenville speaker there was a town

[36:25] called Travelers Rest adjacent to Greenville and you like look

[36:30] like you know the story so we're the little town adjacent to Athens now when

[36:35] the Firefly gets completed I'm going to draw a nodding I don't have to continue

[36:41] so that was great um breweries big money that was your

[36:46] take home from the Greenville South Carolina

[36:50] get the cars out of downtown um things to attract people in like the

[36:56] doctor's Museum festivals wide sidewalks which are

[37:01] things that we have and we could have more of them I was gonna plug that if

[37:05] you didn't mention because it sets it out to me it's in there it's all in

[37:09] there and that was all about just pedestrians like the wide sidewalks

[37:12] right for pedestrian traffic absolutely it's all about

[37:21] um through the Forestry Department and other sources is this Justice 40.

[37:27] um and it is 40 to underserved populations to help mitigate climate

[37:35] change the money will be available soon and we can apply for it

[37:40] um if we have projects that will serve the underserved and mitigate climate

[37:46] change as well as Ira money that's the inflation reduction act so there is 1.5

[37:54] billion dollars in money that will go to the underserved and I have a website

[38:01] here um there it they don't have the money

[38:04] yet she's like don't quarter me up I don't have the money but it's it's going

[38:10] to be available soon and I also learned about this uh I had already known about

[38:15] lead Platinum building standards lead gold lead silver so sites you guys might

[38:21] know this also is for sustainable land design and development so that's the way

[38:26] of the future where you have carbon neutrals structures and the cement

[38:31] you've got Fergus impervious proportions to run off and also one more

[38:40] thing and I'm going to wrap it up so I had a lot to think about as we move

[38:45] forward to weave into our plans I met Jesse McMillan who is the Athens

[38:53] tree Council chairperson who is also won The Rising Star Award at the conference

[38:59] and we talked about getting together on this tree sale so that the way Susan had

[39:06] done it in Jefferson is we have the tree sale and then the homeowners get a

[39:11] credit for their storm water well Athens has to give them that credit but Jesse

[39:15] said that she was very interested in getting that going on in Athens as well

[39:20] so then we could produce our storm water runoff plant more trees and everybody

[39:27] saves a little money so that's something that we're going to be working on

[39:30] together I also met Roger Roger yeah that's it that's right

[39:36] so that was cool and also need to let you know that there were six people

[39:42] closely tied to Winterville in this Statewide conference so we were very

[39:48] well represented as well as Seth Hawkins who you guys remember Susan Russell who

[39:54] I did not know was the president of the Georgia tree commission Council last

[40:00] year during covid and of course Lee and Roger and myself yeah so great team here
