[2:11] Item number two consideration of an action pursuant to

[2:14] elections code section one zero two two nine for council districts one two and

[2:19] three that must be you that's me good evening mayor and council this will be

[2:26] brief one and two touch bases with you regarding the November 2026 election as

[2:33] you know the city is scheduled to hold a consolidated general election on

[2:37] November 3rd 2026 for the purposes of election electing council members for

[2:43] districts 1, 2, and 3. The nomination period for this election closed on Thursday, August 6th,

[2:51] and only one candidate was nominated for each of the three council districts.

[2:57] On August 11th, the city received a certificate of facts from the Sutter County Registrar,

[3:03] our voters confirming this information, and shortly thereafter, I as the city clerk

[3:09] certified that there were no more than one candidate for each office. That being

[3:16] said, the nominated candidates are Dave Shaw for District 1, Mark Boomgarden

[3:21] District 2, and Mike Pasquale for District 3. Under these circumstances and

[3:27] pursuant to elections code 10229, the City Council may take one of the

[3:35] following courses of action. A, you can choose to appoint to office the person who has been

[3:42] nominated. B, you can direct that we go forward with the election regardless. Or C, you can

[3:50] take no action. In the event that council chooses to appoint council members to these

[3:58] offices, the person appointed shall qualify and take office and serve exactly as if

[4:04] they were elected. Additionally, I will not be accepting any write-in

[4:10] candidates after this appointment is made. So I, as a city clerk, have compiled

[4:16] the requirements for elections code 10229 by providing the city council

[4:23] and certifying there's not more than one candidate per office. And now the

[4:30] council has the option to either adopt a resolution to nominate and appoint the

[4:37] candidates that are nominated to move forward with the election or to take no

[4:42] action. One note I want to make before the council takes action is that we

[4:48] because we consolidate the election with Sutter County we typically spend

[4:51] and around $12,000 per seat for those services. And if we decide not to go forward with the

[5:03] election, we're looking to save at minimum $36,000 for the election, plus all the other

[5:10] incidentals that might come our way for that process. So we typically will, in the

[5:16] case where we have three council seats open, we'll budget for 50 just to be safe.

[5:19] and we did budget for 50 this year.

[5:22] So there's, if we decide not to move forward

[5:25] with the election, that's what the council wishes to do.

[5:28] And then there is potential savings there.

[5:30] So we don't have to pay that county for that election.

[6:15] way we can document and we'll do roll call vote and we that way we can

[6:54] ran unopposed. And what that speaks to me as a citizen of this city is to the caliber

[7:01] of the candidate that's running and the job that you gentlemen have done. So thank you
