[4:03] mayor's Proclamation whereas the contiguous

[4:06] United States in Alaska is home to 574 federally recognized tribes and more

[4:13] than 200 unrecognized tribal organizations a count which doesn't

[4:18] include the indigenous peoples of Hawaii or territories in the Caribbean and

[4:22] Pacific Washington state is home to 29 federally recognized tribes including

[4:28] our neighbors at the mucko Indian tribe and whereas the indigenous people of

[4:33] North America the first Americans have woven rich and diverse threads into the

[4:38] tapestry of our nation's his Heritage throughout their long history on this

[4:42] great land they have faced moments of profound Triumph and tragedy alike and

[4:48] whereas this month we celebrate the ancestry and time-honored traditions of

[4:53] Native Americans they have guided our land stewardship policies added

[4:58] immeasurably to our cultural Heritage and demonstrated courage in the face of

[5:03] adversity and whereas the contributions of American Indians have enhanced the

[5:07] freedom prosperity and greatness of America today their customs and

[5:12] traditions are respected and celebrated as part of a rich Legacy throughout the

[5:17] United States and now therefore I Nancy bakus mayor of the city of Auburn do

[5:23] hereby proclaimed November 2024 as Native American Heritage Month

[5:27] in the city of Auburn and urge our community to honor and recognize the

[5:33] important contributions that Native Americans have made in strengthening the

[7:56] my concerns regarding the funds allocated for the 2025 Council travel

[8:00] budget rather than focusing these resources on Council travel I'd like to

[8:05] propose an alternative approach adjusting our budget so that the mayor

[8:09] has a debit credit option for travel expenses while allowing council members

[8:14] the flexibility to allocate a portion of our travel funds to other

[8:18] departments by redistributing a part of this budget we could enable key

[8:23] employees and directors to attend conferences and training sessions and

[8:27] equipping them with valuable skills and insight that can directly benefit our

[8:31] community this reallocation would support staff development and ensure

[8:35] that we are continually enhancing the programs and services available to our

[8:40] residents I hope that each of you will consider this approach which I believe

[8:44] will contribute positively to our City's growth and success thank you thank you

[10:12] budget um we do belong to several uh uh state and federal level and Regional

[10:23] level committees and it does take money to be able to travel and since we have

[10:29] been asked in the past to serve on several of these

[10:36] uh board boards and we' have always been encouraged to join these boards in

[10:43] National leagues of cities and also in Olympia and also within our South City

[10:50] Association I feel that it's very important for us to keep our travel

[10:55] fundings and uh there are council members that choose not to go and the

[11:01] money's always stayed in their budget but that's on to it it's this is the

[11:08] first year that we have had that issue with council members not applying and

[11:14] serving on leadership in different boards and I really feel that we need to

[11:20] keep it the way we've been having it because there's new members that are

[11:26] just learning the role and are looking to serve on some boards and committees

[11:32] so I don't feel that it' be a really a benefit for us as Council to be able to

[11:39] represent our city the way we've been res represented it in the

[12:48] coyotes at Pete Lewis park on the West Hill in Auburn and Hilda can I ask you

[12:53] to speak up a little bit where uh some of the council members are having a

[12:57] difficult time hearing you tonight okay anyway I wanted to talk about the

[13:02] coyotes at Pete Lewis park on the West Hill in Auburn I have a coyote problem

[13:08] on my property where I live by the woods they have slept in my yard in the

[13:15] afternoon at the end of my driveway by the woods I have seen five of them on my

[13:20] driveway sitting they have been in my flower beds leaving a mess I have seen

[13:27] them several times in my my yard for over two weeks they have come to my yard

[13:33] to eat berries on my Laurel hedge every day I've had to clean up their mess when

[13:39] I discovered this was their source of food my son cut their Laurel hedge way

[13:45] back and that stopped them and I am very Leary of

[13:49] them at 9:30 at night driving home on 318th Street a coyote was running in

[13:57] front of my car the coyotes had been coming down my

[14:01] driveway as I was leaving a coyote was headed towards the woods I honked my car

[14:09] horn several times making it turn around and leave I asked the lady walking did

[14:16] you see that coyote she said no but there is a den in Pete Lewis park there

[14:24] are small children small dogs and cats that go

[14:28] there I have had two cats visit my Sund deck

[14:33] for over a year I don't see them anymore so the coyotes have been on my

[14:40] Sund deck so did you see the Saturday news on

[14:46] October 19th where a kyot was chasing a smile child in her backyard then on the

[14:53] 21st a coyote went into the yard after a small dog and bit a lady

[14:59] trees being cut down to build houses not far from where I live the

[15:05] coyotes have relocated in the woods next to my

[15:09] house the other day there were five coyotes in my neighbor's yard next to my

[15:16] house I have lived on this same property on the West Hill in the city limits for

[15:23] 60 years and this is the first time I have

[15:27] ever seen a CL coyote if the coyotes are not removed

[15:32] from Peak Lewis park on the West Hill they will

[15:36] multiply and create a problem for the neighborhood thank you for listening
