[0:04] Call this meeting in order. Roll call, please. Mr. Gillespie. Mr. Bailey. Mr. Ingresson. Mr. Driscoll. Mr. Massier. Mr. Bernice. Mr. Paulson.
[0:16] Here. Corbyn being present with stamp for the pledge.
[0:22] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with a liberty and justice for all.
[0:37] I'd like to start the meeting by just as a reminder by reading our mission statement.
[0:43] Our mission statement is to challenge, provide and power, and we're hashtag or proud to be
[0:49] EP.
[0:50] This is a mission statement that we came up with at our last school planning event that we did
[0:55] a few years ago, and it was made by people from school, from the community, and from
[1:01] the Board of Education, and just to something to remind us of what we're about at East
[1:06] high school. Next up is public recognition. Doesn't look like there's anybody that's signed to
[1:12] speak to the board, but I'd like to start out the meeting by thanking our friends and partners
[1:17] at the Find Life Park District for allomics to have our meeting, our monthly meeting in their
[1:22] facility.
[1:25] Superintendent Hackett is told me that we could have had it, but it was a little warm and
[1:30] we probably would have met quicker.
[1:36] So, moving on, first thing on our agenda today is the consent agenda.
[1:44] The consent agenda contains the following items.
[1:46] Approval of the East Peoria Community High School Minutes of our regular meeting of June 22nd,
[1:51] 2026.
[1:53] Approval of the Taswell Mason County Special Education Association Executive Board Minutes.
[1:58] The Treasurer's report, which includes our financial statement, our investment report, and our
[2:04] activity at count balances, the budget report, approval of East Peoria Community High School
[2:10] bills, approval of Taswell Mason County Special Education Association bills, action item 2600701,
[2:19] which is personnel employment, action item 26-07-02, which is approved copy fees, action item 26-07-03, authorizing the superintendent to develop the fiscal year 27 tentative budget, and action item 26-07-04, approved the fall sports season ticket prices.
[2:44] Do I have a motion for the consent agenda?
[2:48] So moved.
[2:48] Let's be moved by Mr. Gillespie.
[2:50] Is there a second?
[2:51] I can't.
[2:52] Second by Mrs. Bernice.
[2:54] Is there any questions or comments on any of the items on the consent agenda tonight?
[3:01] Hearing none, roll call, please.
[3:03] Mr. Gillespie?
[3:04] Yes.
[3:05] Mr. Incherson?
[3:06] Yes.
[3:07] Mr. Driscoll?
[3:08] Yes.
[3:08] Mrs. Moth?
[3:10] Mrs. Bernice?
[3:11] Mr. Paulson?
[3:12] Yes.
[3:13] Motion carries 6-0.
[3:15] Superintendent, your information reports, information item 2607-01, monthly calendars were included in your board packet.
[3:29] You can see tomorrow we do have our in-person registration from 9am to 1pm.
[3:35] This is an opportunity for people that aren't able to accomplish that online to come into the building for some assistance.
[3:42] Most people are using the online system now, which is really good, but that is coming up tomorrow morning.
[3:52] And then, we're only two weeks away from the start of the school year. Tuesday, August 11th, will be our teacher institute.
[4:00] Wednesday, August 12th, our fresh start, freshman will come and teachers are there.
[4:06] And then Thursday, August 13th, is the first day of student attendance.
[4:11] So that is what is coming up on our monthly calendars.
[4:16] Information item 2607-02, personnel of resignations, so you can see the listed resignations.
[4:22] We received since last month's meeting, proper notice then was sent to the Board President
[4:27] and the Board Secretary.
[4:30] And information item 2607-03, we do have one retirement, Mrs. April Vazquez, our school
[4:37] counselor has put in her three year later letter, so she will be retiring June 30th of
[4:43] 2029.
[4:46] Information item 2607-04 building update, so I went to provide an update on the
[4:54] repairs to the waterline break and electrical outage. Really the only difference, I kind of
[5:01] lost track, I think I sent you guys something on Sunday. What we know now is that the
[5:08] electricians plan to be able to have the work done Friday-ish Saturday, they're hoping
[5:17] then Saturday to be able to do some testing. They don't want to just throw the switch
[5:22] on and let it ride so they're going to try to do, be ready to do testing on Saturday and then
[5:29] they're hoping Sunday will be ready to be back at full power and moving forward with all
[5:37] that. So that is the latest update, the insurance inspector was out today. Really all that
[5:43] compressed was comprised of is she was had this like 360 camera that she was placing different
[5:50] places where the damage was and taking pictures of that.
[5:58] Then I think the only other thing I can
[6:01] probably update you on other than what I've sent you into emails.
[6:06] When I get all of the quotes, because they'll be electrical,
[6:10] they'll be mitigation and restoration, they'll be HVAC.
[6:17] When I have all of those quotes, I will get all that information to you guys.
[6:21] Try to kind of bundle it nicely so you can see where we're at.
[6:24] That is a $5,000 deductible on our insurance.
[6:27] I did speak to myself, Mr. Dubois talked with the adjuster the other day. He did say all of the mitigation and like the repairs and all that to the things that were damaged would be covered by the insurance.
[6:44] They did say the one thing that not be covered by insurance is fixing the actual water line because of the age of it.
[6:54] And so that's the one thing so far that they're saying would not be covered.
[7:00] It was a pretty brief conversation because at that point in time we didn't really, we didn't have
[7:04] a close or anything like that.
[7:06] So as we get all of that information, I will share that with insurance and then, like I said,
[7:11] I will provide you guys all the information on the quotes and all the things that are taking
[7:16] place.
[7:17] It's been a two weeks, holy cow.
[7:20] We were able to get generator power to the district office.
[7:30] So this took place on that Monday night, we're adding I were there until about 115, and then the next
[7:37] couple of days, we're just a matter of triage trying to figure out what in the world happened. And
[7:42] then I met with the maintenance guys, and I'm like, so, okay, here's the deal. I appreciate
[7:46] everything you're doing, but we're going to have to figure out some way of getting power to the district
[7:50] office, because we have payroll the week of the 20th. We have a board meeting, which we had already
[7:54] postponed to get ready for.
[7:58] I tell you, I cannot thank Mr. Du Bois and our maintenance workers enough.
[8:02] They have just gone above and beyond the Call of Duty as everybody's just pitching
[8:06] in and trying to get everything happening.
[8:11] So that's kind of where we stand as far as the building.
[8:14] The boil order is done as of today, I sent that out to the staff.
[8:19] So, hopefully the time frame works out where powers back on Sunday and will be able to get
[8:28] back to full force on Monday, which is when more people are coming back to work.
[8:34] We do have some people in, they're over in the E-wing working, because that is that very
[8:40] those have electricity.
[8:42] So that's kind of where we stand as of today on filling up date with the situation.
[8:52] Any questions on any of that?
[8:55] How keep you posted it as I get more information?
[8:59] I do.
[9:02] What do the other types look like?
[9:05] Is this going to happen again?
[9:06] I don't know.
[9:07] Are they visible that they can be inspected or...
[9:10] Well, that's what we'll get to.
[9:11] We're going to solve this problem first.
[9:12] So the challenge with this is that water line starts at the visitor parking lot down at East Washington Street runs under that parking lot under the building
[9:25] Through through the crawl spaces and then it comes out what we call the well where there's that other kind of narrow parking spot it goes under there at some point
[9:38] it does tee off somewhere and when GA rich was there doing the repairs they were running the
[9:46] camera and they could only get it so far and so that is the concern that that pipe is
[9:53] the entire pipe I'm assuming is all the same age so yeah that is one of the concerns so
[9:59] I'm going to let the guys get this fix and then we will talk about a plan to see how do we
[10:04] get any some kind of inspection done of that.
[10:07] And where it even goes, it's just crazy.
[10:10] And again, as many high schools you build a building
[10:14] and then you add on to it, and you add on to it,
[10:17] and you add on to it, and you end up just covering up
[10:19] all of these water lines.
[10:22] So yeah, that is definitely the thing
[10:24] that still weighs on my mind is if that happened there,
[10:28] is there another spot that it can happen.
[10:35] All right, anything else on that?
[10:37] Like I said, I will keep you posted as I can.
[10:40] Like how much insurance is there in the digital provider that we have for that type of infrastructure?
[10:46] I will, you know, like, you can add extra digital coverage for storage water.
[10:51] You know, things like that.
[10:51] Yeah, I'll check with our engineers.
[10:54] You're supposed to have an aging system like that.
[10:56] You might be worth the extra.
[10:58] Yeah, that's a good question.
[11:00] Yeah, and when like I said, when we get through this one, I'll talk to the insurance agent as well and say,
[11:06] is there? Anything else we should be doing to be covered by something like this?
[11:12] I sent you, I wanted you guys to see that, so I sent that picture to you. It's a six-inch cast-iron pipe.
[11:20] Once we saw the holes in it, we're like, oh, well, yep. That's why all that water was
[11:26] gushing out of there into the crawl spaces.
[11:30] Alright, I'll keep you updated as I get more information on that.
[11:35] All right.
[11:37] Information item 2607-05 captivate media.
[11:42] So I sent you initially some information, well, we have this information out of last month,
[11:48] and then I was tasked with getting some samples of what captivate is providing for the public
[11:59] relationist part of information for the county facility sales tax, and then I did that,
[12:06] and then the response that I got, I mean, Justin sent that information, but then he pointed
[12:13] out in there that there would be some cost as well.
[12:17] And so then the easiest thing I thought is just to print off or give you the emails of our
[12:23] exchange, because once he said that, I'm like, I need to have an idea, obviously, of what
[12:28] talking about as far as cost-wise. So I sent that out to you and at your at your desk I've
[12:34] got copies of that as well. And in your email last week I think earlier this week I've
[12:44] boss tracked set the samples that he had sent to me as well.
[12:57] So is this something that you
[12:59] intend to bring to the board as an action item and all of this or do you think this is more
[13:04] My goal as I said at the last meeting was provide, you know, as much information as I can, and then just to hear from the board, what direction you guys are wanting me to go with this.
[13:24] So what does it entail? What are they doing for us for that money?
[13:30] So what I can gather is, so they're providing these, what they call like the Tier 1 package,
[13:39] which was the fast-facts she, the presentation that kind of like the video, the mailers,
[13:47] all those things.
[13:48] They managed to get to the local, to the residents, or we given these not we as in me, but
[13:54] the school districts, given the materials, and then the school districts are mailing them out on.
[13:59] So it doesn't include mail it does not so they provide the thing to mail and that was one of the questions specifically that I asked Justin
[14:08] I said so do I understand that each individual school district is then responsible that they would be sending
[14:16] It out to the community and he said yes, and he said that my understanding was like if
[14:24] If East Peoria schools were not going to pay to do that, I would assume that the other schools
[14:32] would be raising the money that they're paying to captivate would be then part of that would be used for them to target East Peoria
[14:40] House as well. Because they're going to I mean, they're going to want everyone in the county to have the information. So how
[14:49] So, has there been research or anything something like, I get mailers in a mail, I didn't
[14:53] look at them throwing straight in the trash.
[14:55] You know what I mean?
[14:57] How many residents do we think are going to look at these?
[15:00] Yeah, I can't answer that. Is it worth it? Yeah, especially in like a general election that we're going to have, it's going to be like every day you're going to get. Yeah.
[15:10] It really has to start again. Reading like the fact sheets and stuff like this, they would be paying for these sheets to be printed on nice paper that we could send out or like how Danielle and lended.
[15:25] Yeah. They went to local areas and gave presentations on it. Right.
[15:30] Because that was really good and that was very informative. So I'm I'm I'm a
[15:35] co-ordinate and at our peak and co-ONUS meeting Daniel Owens, the superintendent of 303
[15:40] and Len at 108, they were our speakers at one of our meetings and they gave a whole presentation
[15:47] on this. They passed out copies of the fun facts and answered any questions that we had.
[15:53] So that was very interesting.
[15:56] Yeah, I think the one thing that I found interesting because as I was just trying to gather information from Justin and trying to balance out, you know, what role, you know, our school is going to play.
[16:11] I kind of assumed if there's this website that has well for students dot com, I was like, well, if we're not interested in going all in,
[16:22] do to the circumstances we've talked about before, do we just have our
[16:28] our website, you know, and be able to publicize, you know, the task well for
[16:33] schools and put that on social media or whatever. So it was interesting because
[16:37] on the last response he said, the fast facts sheet is not linked on that website.
[16:44] I just found that interesting. So I'm not for sure, you know, what really it will
[16:48] on that website.
[16:53] And are we allowed to use the facts fact she like posted on our social media pages or our
[16:58] website or send it home with students?
[17:01] I believe only if we are paying forward that.
[17:05] So we can print it ourselves.
[17:07] So the way I understand it is captivating media is the group that's going to create all of these
[17:15] advertisements or all of this informational material.
[17:19] So then they're obviously expecting that people if you're going to use it, then you're going to pay them to use those promotional materials.
[17:28] That's what I kind of gathered as I've read through his emails.
[17:34] So the samples that he sent are very basic for like the whole Tazel County to use.
[17:44] And these are just like a couple samples or would there be more?
[17:50] I don't think there's more. He did not lead me to believe that there was more.
[17:55] I believe that what he's what I've got on the last page, or that I'm sorry.
[18:00] The page before that is where it has like the tier one information.
[18:04] And like that's for $2,000, that's what you get access to.
[18:09] So I think for the most part I think what he sent us other than like that animated video that you talked about
[18:16] and maybe a couple of other things I think what he sent us is a big part of it.
[18:23] Because as a school, we just have to present facts, right?
[18:28] We can't take a stance.
[18:31] A stance, no.
[18:32] It's all different.
[18:33] other right so i mean i think when you look at this that's pretty much what this is
[18:37] hmm i mean i don't i don't i don't know in my mind i don't have any idea what the expense
[18:45] of me on to the city and he's purity i don't know if if we get much return on that i think
[18:51] having you know if there's opportunity to speak in front of community groups or for your host
[18:54] a public meeting to see if people were interested in coming in and like you said
[18:59] You know, put it on our message board, you know, that maybe has a constant message for
[19:05] significant period of time, right?
[19:07] And like during drive times or things like that, so people can see it would probably get
[19:12] just as much exposure as that, because I, I just, I think this has a very short lifespan
[19:19] on what hits somebody's mailbox.
[19:22] Yeah, and that would definitely be one thing that guides you guys from you guys is, I mean,
[19:27] So, if you're wanting to do these promotional but promotional materials, I should call it informational materials,
[19:38] there's that cost, but then there's also the cost if we were going to do a mailer than there's that cost.
[19:46] To my knowledge district 86, I haven't had any conversations with Mr. Engold recently, but I don't know anything has changed and they're still staying very neutral on it.
[19:57] And so I don't think that they're to my knowledge, they're not
[20:02] Joining and paying for any of this.
[20:05] I can double check with Mr. Engel, but I don't.
[20:09] That's where we last left it.
[20:17] Is there a reason that
[20:21] Canva is really cool?
[20:23] It's so easy to use.
[20:24] Is there a reason we can't make these ourselves
[20:27] or something similar or some type of hybrid or
[20:32] I mean, it's information, right?
[20:33] it's not like we're copywriting information.
[20:36] Could, is there, is there somebody, is there like graphic design class at the high school
[20:42] that could work on something like this or could, does it have to be this specific thing
[20:50] with, that's a real problem.
[20:52] That's a real problem.
[20:52] Like, can the at our fingertips, I mean, I could make something very similar that's probably
[20:56] more eye catching for zero dollars.
[21:00] So, where's that, is there a line there?
[21:03] that he and her can't be crossed?
[21:06] I don't know, that's actually a great question.
[21:08] I think I would have to ask, instead of captivate media,
[21:12] I don't think that's a question I would ask them.
[21:14] I think I would ask the leadership, the superintendent,
[21:19] leadership that's heading up this.
[21:25] Because I mean, I don't think I would ask captivate
[21:28] that because I think they would be like, no, you can't do that.
[21:33] Well it's just, yeah that'd be I can certainly check with the leadership team.
[21:39] Because another thing that we had kind of talked about and I think was discussed was
[21:45] at what point do we involve just our school and like what we would use the money for and also
[21:51] having some of a hybrid of that so that taxpayers can see where this money's going to go. Of course
[21:57] have kids in this school, so I'm gonna educate myself more,
[22:02] but maybe grandma and grandpa down the road
[22:05] or aunt Nunkill who are not as involved
[22:07] are kind of like, okay, this is another tax,
[22:09] but what is the school using it for?
[22:10] Where are we gonna actually see where this money is going?
[22:15] And I think to me, the more powerful thing to do
[22:18] is since we've had something like this for two decades or more,
[22:22] is to show what we already done with these types of things.
[22:26] That's good. And then also including with that, I mean, you know, for the last.
[22:30] Several years. I mean, I don't know how many. Maybe all of them. We've actually rebated some of the money back to the taxpayers by baiting on our taxes.
[22:40] So I mean, I think there's a story that we can tell that's, it's not a story. It's what we've done this and this is what we've done with it and just to show the different things we've done to the school and transformed it over the last 20 plus years.
[22:54] So basically narrow it down to more specific to us, you know what I'm saying, not just
[22:59] yeah.
[23:00] And as these pure as its own special situation in the sense, well, that's right.
[23:04] And I want to make sure we're being more historic than saying, well, we would do X, Y,
[23:09] and Z because like a future board may decide that wasn't a good idea and not want to do it.
[23:14] But I think if we reflect back on, this is what we've done in the 22 years, the agreements existed.
[23:22] Whatever, 20 plus years it's existed, this is what the school has done with the money that's been collected through the local sales tax owner.
[23:30] I like the idea of the story too, because if it's telling a story, people are going to be more interested.
[23:36] So if you think about having a conversation with somebody, you're usually telling a story about something that happened.
[23:41] Something as simple as social media, what are we doing? We're watching people's stories on Snapchat. We're watching people's stories.
[23:46] So a story is more, it's going to get people's engagement more, and they're going to
[23:54] want to listen, I guess, versus, oh, here's a flyer on the same way.
[23:59] I'm not reading that.
[23:59] I'm tired of, you know, flyers and stuff, but a story is going to get me involved.
[24:05] Well, even our older voters are more social media conscious now than they used to be.
[24:10] Like, I would say, like, my grandparents lived a good flyer.
[24:13] to see them like they would have been like why and then the prettier was the more likely they would have
[24:16] built for it. But you know I get out like the social media aspect of it. For me I'd rather
[24:22] click on or read a quick you know quick one-pager so to speak or whatever. Because if we're
[24:29] mainly is bulk so depending on size of postcard or it's what has it gone to like 18 cents to 67 cents
[24:37] depending on your bulk mill cost.
[24:39] If you're say it's 18 or 24 cents for bulk mill and you're sending them to 20,000 people
[24:44] where close to five grand.
[24:47] Just in mayonnaise.
[24:49] Are these samples would also look like for social media?
[24:55] This is just the very, yes, I believe so.
[24:58] It's actually things like flyers, social media, all of it's going to look exactly like this.
[25:03] I think the one thing and I'm not, I love the idea, I'm just giving all the points.
[25:11] I think the one thing that if I were to ask the other superintendents about us kind of
[25:17] doing our own thing, I think their message would be, well, we're looking to stay consistent
[25:22] and having a message that's the same throughout Tazel County, which is why I'm sure they
[25:27] with this captivating media in order to create a universal information thing. At the same time,
[25:35] I would think they would rather us do something than do nothing.
[25:44] So this is cost for Tier 1 package, where it says the fast fact sheet side presentation all that.
[25:49] Does that include them print, then include them printing the fast fact sheets for us, correct?
[25:55] It I do not believe so. I think what this is is them creating these things and then you know a lot like if they created it
[26:04] And then you're just using on social media, so then there's no cost of prints.
[26:09] So you're being paying for their design and you're paying for that design and I would bet you this design looks very similar to past designs that they've done.
[26:17] I think I would agree that some something needs to be done. There needs to be a way for us to reach the community because yeah
[26:26] Well, it's county-wide, right, for $2,000, so that's just split the right between all the, I mean, there's no, that's for school.
[26:35] That's for school.
[26:36] Yeah.
[26:38] When they first sent us information, there was like a range of like $2,500 to $5,000.
[26:43] Yeah.
[26:44] And they were wedding schools.
[26:45] I think their intention with that was lower enrollment would pay less money and higher enrollment,
[26:51] would pay more.
[26:58] mean my personal opinion would be that we could do something more effective in our community
[27:08] than this. I mean I looked at this and thought it was okay. It didn't make me like wow
[27:15] this looks great and this looks super and we should pay. Oh I have my students my stories. Yeah
[27:20] That's where I'm like, where's that?
[27:22] Can we could do this on our own?
[27:24] Because I definitely...
[27:25] I give it a grade, but...
[27:26] I think we need something.
[27:28] It's a wonderful thing.
[27:29] And if we're not able to, then...
[27:31] Three flash.
[27:33] This is great.
[27:34] But if there's a...
[27:37] I agree.
[27:38] Like, it's just, we're sharing the facts.
[27:40] And we can make it look better.
[27:44] All right.
[27:44] This is what they're charging.
[27:45] I'm in the wrong line of work.
[27:47] But...
[27:49] We, I think we can make it look better, and if we can find a way to present it like on social
[27:54] media, because like you said, this is not even linked to the TASOL for students.com website.
[28:01] If you go there.
[28:02] Yeah, I was confused by that.
[28:04] So that's confusing.
[28:05] They, they, I wouldn't say I would follow the super tends we want to do our own thing.
[28:11] That's certainly.
[28:12] You know, I got, I'm going to get to put this a little different.
[28:15] Well, and so, like, let's summarize our own message.
[28:19] And what Justin asked me was, he's like, are you available tomorrow morning after your board
[28:23] meeting?
[28:23] So if the consensus of the board is we're not going to go this direction, which is somewhat
[28:29] expected because, as Mr. England, I have talked about the unique relationship here in
[28:34] East Peoria, I still, I want to do what's best for our students, I want to do what's best
[28:39] for the school, but I have to remind us to make sure they're having a great relationship
[28:43] with within our community as well, so if they're already expecting that East
[28:50] Period was not planning to participate in this, so that won't come as a surprise if
[28:55] I'm like, we're not, we're not going to sign on for this, and then if we decide
[29:00] there are things that we want to provide information on, then I think we do that
[29:05] ourselves.
[29:07] I mean, I have another question, so
[29:13] you had said something about going to the community,
[29:15] people, you know, like small groups, or your gym group, or getting the word out, not just
[29:22] with a physical flyer or a social media post. How would one go about that? Are we just going to read
[29:31] off of this? Do they give some type of script or... So there you go. So captivate has a whole slide
[29:38] presentation that is I'm sure what Danielle and Leonard we're using and just kind of
[29:44] reminder from I think I talked about this at the last meeting. So at one point the
[29:50] captivating media representatives and then a couple of the leaders, superintendently,
[29:55] years of this campaign.
[30:00] One and two me with me and Mr. Engold and so we did. And they said, you know, are you guys opposed to us having meetings with people with these puri and Tony answered it very honestly he's like, we can't tell you who to meet with. If you guys want to hold something like that then, absolutely. I do think just coming from me as the superintendent and trying to navigate this unique situation he's puri.
[30:28] But I do think it probably is better, and they were more than willing, like some of the
[30:35] representatives of the leadership team, could hold something if they wanted to.
[30:41] And I'm assuming that, I mean, obviously it's pure as a lot of voters, I'm assuming that
[30:47] they would want to hold something an opportunity for people to attend and hear information
[30:52] about it.
[30:54] So what they would be using is that, and I didn't include it because that wasn't something.
[31:02] It wasn't a promotional material that we were going to use on a social media thing.
[31:07] It was truly a presentation for like what Shawna was at a Kiwana's the other day.
[31:23] Well, I think
[31:27] my opinion would be that I think any investment would make in this form would not be
[31:36] a wise use of my other friends,
[31:41] and come up with whatever we decide.
[31:43] I think again, I think if we do something that tells a story of what we've done and use
[31:49] that in our community, as long as we're not,
[31:55] make sure we walk the line that we're not
[31:57] that we're saying neutral with it, but again, if we're presenting these are the things we've
[32:01] done in the 20 plus years that we've had this relationship, because since it's sales tax,
[32:08] It's still mirrors the same things.
[32:10] It's not based on there's things that are excluded from sales tax or things that are
[32:14] kept and that's just the fact and this is what we've done in these years.
[32:21] And probably a lot of them would not have been possible if we didn't have the sales tax
[32:26] money.
[32:27] We're living in a tax cap county.
[32:29] It's been very difficult for us to pass our efferendums to build some of the things
[32:33] that we've built, the funding that we've gotten.
[32:35] Yeah, and really what that can just make sure based on the same page and know so what came out of that city sales tax agreement back in 2008 is E-Wing in the cafeteria
[32:47] That and they're modeling of F-Wing, which is the art rooms and the chorus room. So yeah, so that is our story that is what we have been using that money to pay off the bonds on that expansion to the height
[33:03] Well, which is then in turn allowed us to focus on other things that we would have had to use
[33:08] those capital dollars from someone who form anywhere.
[33:12] So I mean it's like, it was that was the main purpose, but it freed up future investments
[33:19] for these other things that we've done.
[33:22] And the fact that we're still in a place where our fund balances are relatively healthy,
[33:28] we've been able to update taxes for a number of years, and whether or not a future board
[33:36] would choose to do whatever they would choose to do, it is what we have done, so it's
[33:41] not saying, I believe we've been responsible to the taxpayers, and I think this year 86 has
[33:48] been responsible to the taxpayers with the projects they've done, I think it's been...
[33:52] Yeah, because that whole expansion was paid for by us being able to obey the money.
[33:57] Because if we wouldn't have had the city sales tax to do that, we would have had to bond that out.
[34:04] And the taxpayers would have had to pay for that expansion.
[34:07] And by us having not the city sales tax, I mean that we could have paid that entire project.
[34:13] All those billions of dollars.
[34:15] So are you kind of saying like in a way we would be able to show that story,
[34:19] but then also tell a story about how this would make a difference.
[34:23] Because correct me if I'm wrong, this would bring in a significant amount more than we're working on.
[34:27] So like how do we take that story and and show what it's going to do for us versus
[34:35] I think it's yeah, I think you start with what we accomplished and then what still
[34:41] it can do for us to rest in the story you know I think Mr. Dubois put together that
[34:47] presentation of you know some projects that he would see the need to be done over the next
[34:52] by in the 10 years, it would put a source behind it to be able to do quicker than that possibly.
[35:02] I guess in my mind, it gives future boards and future administrations a lot more flexibility with how we do things than versus trying to go through the idea of a referendum to increase property taxes which would be inherently unpopular.
[35:22] Yeah, no matter how well we sold what we were doing it would it would be and this is I feel too like with this
[35:30] It's not like we're bringing your the referendum and raising taxes or we're doing this
[35:34] This is anybody shops and Tesla counties so yeah, I mean it's not gonna you have people from Piori that go to the
[35:40] Lovey district and shop so I think everybody wins on that because I mean just like there's people from East Piori to go to Piori and shop and make sales tax
[35:49] I mean it's just a sales tax
[35:52] I like the visuals though that are in there, and that's why I said I'm curious as to what we can do on our own because they're facts at the end of the day.
[36:01] If it doesn't look exactly like this, like I said, campus wonderful.
[36:06] What we can do on our own to show the visuals to include our story for a lot cheaper.
[36:13] I think something has to be done. We have to get the facts out.
[36:17] provide the information. I'm just curious if there's a better way or cheaper way. I wasn't.
[36:27] I didn't sit and read every bullet point on there. It's not as catching and I think as it could
[36:32] be.
[36:38] Yeah. So am I getting the consensus that we are not going to put money towards
[36:44] we have to date and that we will discuss telling our story and whatever social media information
[36:54] we want to put out visually that we will work on that internally here.
[37:01] I would say we should see what we can do before we completely say act.
[37:07] We shouldn't do this at all because if there's some type of legality of things that we can
[37:11] can't do then our hands are tied, but the fact is a fact, I think. So I don't know.
[37:18] Yeah, I mean, it's probably worth it. Yeah, but I can tell you, this stuff will still be out there, right?
[37:24] Yeah, but all the other, all the other, this is holes are put in this out there. We're just putting out EPs version.
[37:30] Okay, still could be linked to this. I mean, they can still see this.
[37:32] We're just putting facts out. So if we do the e-mise, like, story version, then it could be, yeah, it could be just like this, but doesn't even have to, it was these things.
[37:42] Right. Like you said, just says, this is how we were. This is the advocacy of the money in the past. And this, so we foresee you would be that effective in the future.
[37:51] I mean, I can tell you.
[37:53] I think what we've worked it done by this kind of part of the best thing we do is show East
[37:58] Piora High School 2005, focus picture versus today, I mean I'd be pretty, that's the trailer, yeah, I think they're ready for an answer, so I don't know that I have time to get too much more information
[38:19] So I think in an all fairness to the other Tasman County schools, they need to know if we are participating in this or not.
[38:29] So I feel like I probably need to go ahead.
[38:30] If that is the consensus of the board, I feel like I need to go ahead.
[38:34] What's that?
[38:35] Definitely sort of advocating for the, you know, that this beyond the ballot and that.
[38:39] Yeah, I mean, where did he did that?
[38:41] We're all good.
[38:42] Resolution.
[38:44] And I'm sure each school,
[38:46] I mean, they're going to go beyond using these materials.
[38:49] Each school should be saying to their community,
[38:52] this is what we've been using.
[38:54] That's got to be, that's very distinct to each school.
[38:57] There's not something that captivated you can create for that.
[39:01] Because everybody's got their own list of,
[39:04] this is of the funds.
[39:08] If we do something on our own,
[39:12] How and who and when and where and how do we get to that idea and moving forward with that?
[39:22] Yeah, so I think we would need to decide what, first of all, what are we going to do?
[39:29] And then I think it would probably be good to get an idea and I can certainly get this from the other superintendent.
[39:38] And it's like, there's going to be a timeline for all of this to be done by all the
[39:42] Tesla County schools.
[39:44] So probably staying somewhat in line with that is helpful.
[39:49] Unless we think it's a different timeline is better.
[39:57] It's far as creating things.
[40:01] If we're going to do that internally, like with any classroom, I would need to talk with Ms.
[40:08] Brown.
[40:08] as far as what that looks like, curriculum-
[40:12] why is that something that we can accomplish in house?
[40:23] I'm really good at volunteering my time, so I wouldn't be opposed to helping.
[40:28] I was waiting for you to say that.
[40:29] I didn't think it would be that.
[40:32] So campus might be.
[40:33] I mean, I could be just trying to commit to that.
[40:35] Yeah, I mean, I'm this by calling, I think.
[40:38] But I think that's why it was, when I looked at it,
[40:40] I was like, in my head I was like I kind of feel like we were somebody else could and I would be willing to volunteer my time to help with something like that.
[40:48] I would help her.
[40:49] I would help her.
[40:50] She meets up.
[40:50] I love Canva and love designing stuff like that.
[40:53] So yeah.
[40:54] Sounds great.
[40:54] We have a subscription.
[40:56] The district does to Canva.
[40:58] That's how we do our social media posts and stuff.
[41:02] I mean, I wouldn't even in the next week be opposed to just kind of throwing a little something together
[41:06] to just see.
[41:07] I think that'd be great.
[41:08] What sound like co-chairs of your community?
[41:16] I appreciate it.
[41:18] I appreciate it.
[41:18] I feel like I have a solid direction now for us to move forward with that.
[41:23] Thank you, everybody.
[41:25] Anything else on there?
[41:30] Information item 2607-0610 at board meeting.
[41:34] I put in the information packet that if we need to hire any last minute teachers,
[41:39] We would need to have a meeting so ask you to be able to share your availability for August 3rd, 4th and 5th.
[41:49] We did have a couple interviews for a couple teaching positions.
[41:55] They will need to be checking with the ROE on some credential things.
[42:00] It's for wood shop and automotive.
[42:05] So there is a chance if either one of those or one of them
[42:09] paned out that we would need to have a meeting to hire teachers before the school year started.
[42:17] So we just need for.
[42:21] So ideally, as because this is already like next week,
[42:27] as they're if they're needing to check with the ROE, I'd probably need to try to make that.
[42:31] It's latest possible so what does all Wednesday august the fifth look like for people?
[42:37] That's the one I can do. I can do the fourth.
[42:40] Okay. It does the only one I can do.
[42:42] Okay. This fifth doesn't know for me.
[42:46] I can.
[42:47] I'm available. Yeah.
[42:49] Nice. Me too.
[42:50] So I got three so far for the fifth.
[42:53] Just go to school. You're good for the fifth.
[42:56] And so for shirt chases and no on the fifth. Correct.
[43:06] I'll be there all day, whatever time you guys are free.
[43:10] Eight answer four is no free.
[43:15] Let's just to have a backup plan, in case I need it, the fourth.
[43:22] I'm good.
[43:24] Clark, Andy, Chase, Mr. Disco, are you good on the fourth, yes? This is Moss, are you good on the fourth?
[43:33] Okay, so I've got those two dates,
[43:39] so I will check and see which one we need to do.
[43:46] Again, most likely I would go with the fifth just to give us an extra day in case R and W stuff is still need to be looked at,
[43:54] But I will let you know between those two dates.
[44:01] Time is anybody open earlier?
[44:04] What's the earliest people could be?
[44:06] We can leave it at six or if there's a possibility
[44:09] of doing to get earlier?
[44:11] The earliest, I can meet seven a.m.
[44:13] I can't hear it.
[44:15] Cross-country is over eight, so eight, 15.
[44:19] Open the rest of the time.
[44:21] I know we're normally six o'clock.
[44:23] So if we did it on the fifth,
[44:26] Shawna Nicole, Andy, and Joe,
[44:28] what's your timeframes, I'll be flexible.
[44:33] Thank you, let me just, let me look one other camera.
[44:35] Can I just do any time after three,
[44:40] as long as I can get to pick up my son by 2030?
[44:43] How you'd just leave him at camp and come in there?
[44:47] I'm sorry, the fifth.
[44:48] Yeah, four, the fifth.
[44:54] I mean, for as long as the meeting should take,
[44:55] probably any time after one.
[44:59] Oh, okay.
[45:01] I mean, if I could swing down here and- Yeah, I mean, it'll be a literally three-minute meeting.
[45:09] It's that three o'clock that I can do it, too. Oh, on the fifth? Yeah, anything else.
[45:13] Oh, that's right. I can't. We think before four, I'm fine. How about could we do?
[45:21] Could we do two? Yeah. Yeah.
[45:24] Yeah, okay, two on the fifth and then I have chase so I've got five. All right, let's just plan on that
[45:38] Wednesday August the fifth at two
[45:42] And I'll take five minutes at your time and and if for some reason it doesn't pan out
[45:47] We don't need to have that meeting. I will let you know. Okay
[45:53] Let's see here
[45:56] We're
[46:02] up to Mr. Paulson on the reports.
[46:08] Have there been any board committees that have met since our last meeting?
[46:13] It's no.
[46:14] Okay.
[46:20] That finishes the information items for tonight's meeting.
[46:24] Do we have any unfinished business for this meeting?
[46:28] Any new business for this meeting?
[46:30] Close and comments?
[46:33] We do have need for an executive session.
[46:42] So I need a motion to go into an executive session for the purpose of contracting litigation matters
[46:48] and for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees,
[46:56] and student disciplinary matters, collected negotiating matters between the public body and its employees,
[47:02] or the representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.
[47:07] That emotion that go into executive session.
[47:10] So moved.
[47:11] Move by Mr. Gillespie.
[47:12] Is there a second?
[47:13] Second.
[47:14] Second by.
[47:18] By Mrs. Moss.
[47:22] Will call please?
[47:24] Mr. Ingerson.
[47:25] Yes. Mr. Driscoll.
[47:26] Yes.
[47:27] Mrs. Moss. Yes. Mrs. Bernace.
[47:29] Yes. Mr. Paulson.
[47:31] Yes. Mr. Gillespie.
[47:32] Yes.
[47:34] Motion carries.
[47:35] We are an executive session.
