Okay,
[0:03]
call the meeting order at 605. Roll call, board member, I'm right, board member, hungry,
[0:09]
land, board member, broad, board member, captain, board member, Smith, also superintendent,
[0:14]
pardon, consideration, agenda, some of these items will not be, we just left them on there.
[0:21]
There's nothing there, but I would have been in motion to approve.
[0:34]
Okay,
[0:38]
my favorite say aye, I oppose say aye, all right, information items, teaching
[0:44]
limited reports, we have on your elementary and the juniors in your high one, I come to
[0:48]
do those. That's just a standing thing for the format. The first thing we will look at
[0:57]
is under the elementary for attachments, the elementary handbook final copies in there
[1:03]
for people to review for approval of the next meeting. So what we did there was we just
[1:08]
took about the red line so you had a chance to see the red line copies. So the handbook
[1:13]
we've come presented as you see it here to the next meeting but we didn't
[1:17]
if you have any additional thoughts or feedback from your time of process and
[1:21]
reflect over that two weeks so we just had them here just in case and same
[1:28]
thing for all the other things you'll see if you have the first thing you see
[1:31]
guys on it again.
[1:35]
Any questions you concerned with the handbooks that we've
[1:37]
reviewed? I'll look like all mine. So first for next item is
[1:46]
or laptop access. This was the topic that's come up. We talked about getting, like, I guess
[1:54]
that's the question. We wanted to assign, is that what the task was, assigned with access to
[1:59]
network. The reason I asked is that was the concern we talked about this years ago, getting people
[2:06]
access to a school laptop because now you have access to the network and it's a control environment.
[2:11]
I don't know Jim had had some sort of an issue with it signing because we're not actually employees.
[2:18]
Oh, I don't have a problem with it.
[2:20]
I don't have a problem with it.
[2:21]
Usage policy like stamp one.
[2:23]
Sure.
[2:23]
I don't have a problem with it.
[2:24]
I'm saying that was why we haven't done it already is because we wanted, no, we had enough.
[2:29]
But that was the thing that was always before.
[2:31]
It was concerned about giving us access to network and.
[2:36]
So was that something that came on of like that deep dive that we did?
[2:40]
Because we used to have.
[2:41]
Did you?
[2:43]
Chromebooks issued to us for years.
[2:46]
Did you take them out of the building
[2:48]
or just when you were on site for meetings?
[2:51]
Mostly on site, but if we had a conference
[2:54]
or something coming up,
[2:55]
we could come and pick them up.
[2:56]
But I don't think it was ever like,
[2:58]
you can't take them.
[2:59]
It was just kind of like,
[3:00]
let's just see if I hear them.
[3:01]
Look at it.
[3:01]
But then you would mention some of the committee work
[3:04]
it would be nice to be able to have on it.
[3:07]
Yeah.
[3:07]
Lots of reasons for it.
[3:08]
I mean, it's so long ago, Matt was the one who brought back the concern.
[3:12]
That's how long ago it wasn't we talked about this.
[3:14]
So, when it seems like, again, time has laps.
[3:18]
But during COVID, when like everybody needed a device,
[3:22]
those were six or seven of them right there
[3:23]
that we could give to the cause or whatever.
[3:26]
And then they just never came back.
[3:28]
And when they probably aged out at some point, too,
[3:31]
the one who didn't stay out, and happened to have worked
[3:39]
It's not uncommon for board members to get a district laptop, and so we can put all
[3:45]
the name protocols that would be in if needed.
[3:48]
So if you want to have them as something you take with you, or if you just want to have them available
[3:52]
here, I think both options would be okay from my standpoint.
[3:56]
It's just more what's convenient for you when it supports you to do your work.
[4:01]
I don't want to speak for everybody, but I know personally it would be handy to try for
[4:08]
like my scrap meetings and research there.
[4:12]
They don't use boardbooks, so it's a little clunky.
[4:16]
Just in and out of all the documents that they upload.
[4:19]
So I thought maybe that would be an easier way.
[4:23]
I've attempted to buy my own new device.
[4:25]
Good, but I can't use my work device.
[4:27]
We have rules on that. So I've been kicking it around, but so I can go either way depending on the other the consensus. So, but that was where some of my thoughts are coming from. It's just in that other setting it.
[4:43]
Other board, other districts, those routes are bringing theirs to so it's like, oh, you have one and you have one and.
[4:51]
And I was using my work device, and now we have new regulations, so I'm not.
[4:57]
Yeah, so, anyway, that was kind of where some of it came back from.
[5:03]
So, in that case, to try it, I would like to take it out of the building.
[5:07]
And take a true spread in my house to read my board back there.
[5:10]
But, again, we want to make sure that we're doing whatever,
[5:13]
if you want to cite form and agree to do whatever those rules are.
[5:18]
Absolutely, we want to do it right.
[5:19]
So I think we want to sign them on just to track everybody's
[5:22]
Yeah, because it's still a district asset. So yeah
[5:27]
Okay, so I don't know if I know
[5:29]
IT person wants to
[5:32]
Develop a list or if they've already got a list of where each device is
[5:37]
I don't want to get in in front of them either with whatever they want to
[5:42]
Put together for processes. I don't think there's any issue getting you the laptops
[5:45]
I think if you could give us just a little time to take some inventory
[5:49]
students coming back and staff just make sure they get devices and if we just need
[5:53]
to order some new ones we can do that. So if you're just good to give us a
[5:59]
little bit time on that but we can start that process tomorrow. Oh yeah it's not
[6:03]
on fire or anything but it just would be lovely to try it. Is a Chromebook
[6:08]
sufficient for the things that you need to do? Is that enough?
[6:15]
I think so. I haven't used a Chromebook in a very long time. So I think it'll be what I want.
[6:21]
As most things are, I'll web base to whatever I spread through your login.
[6:32]
So six laptops. Chromebooks are okay.
[6:36]
And then somebody chooses that they don't want it. That's okay. It's available. It's still available to you.
[6:41]
And we'll still make sure that we have that.
[6:45]
We
[6:56]
have to vote on that two weeks and it's there okay, I think we had to buy more
[7:04]
Yeah, it's not already budget for person or releasing or whatever
[7:12]
Yeah, if it's a if it's a big ticket, then I want to know like I want to be cognizant of that affair, so
[7:20]
Is that all the cameras picking up?
[7:27]
That's what's going right now, is there a different button I need to see before I used to kind of do like a split screen of half of the table, it would get both.
[7:40]
That's what we used to have it split so you could do both.
[7:42]
I don't know if it's a button on the repress.
[7:46]
I just want to ask you, I actually want to.
[7:49]
If it's working in cases.
[7:51]
There's nothing on the other side.
[7:52]
There's no other side of that.
[7:54]
There's no other side of that.
[7:59]
I was curious because I mean, it would switch when Kevin started talking,
[8:03]
but it didn't fall
[8:12]
in the evening.
[8:12]
It'll be something to start with.
[8:14]
Everything's on automatic read now.
[8:31]
Okay.
[8:33]
Next item is besides the handbooks.
[8:37]
Truth and taxation hearing date.
[8:41]
And then do
[8:47]
we have that date?
[8:50]
December.
[8:52]
Yeah, it's going to be.
[8:53]
Third.
[8:54]
Our meeting meeting day and December.
[8:58]
So be.
[8:59]
17.
[9:00]
That's all right.
[9:02]
But I think we have to formally do that at the next meeting.
[9:05]
Okay.
[9:06]
Because that'll be a resolution in.
[9:09]
And part of our, it's a part of our radio resolution in September.
[9:16]
Yeah, we'll have something come up on that.
[9:17]
This one is just to figure out when you would want to do that.
[9:20]
So actually have the paperwork for you at that time.
[9:22]
This would just allow us to put the date in advance of that.
[9:25]
So when you get it, it'll have that date.
[9:28]
Generally, December is when we do that.
[9:31]
Yeah, the board meeting in December, so it'll be the 17th.
[9:42]
AED plan. This was, I think, out of the legislative session this year requiring that every school has one. We have an AED. We've had for a long time, but there'll be a formal plan developed for who is in charge of testing it and keeping track of it.
[9:59]
Um, yeah, kind of, make sure it's, yeah, it exists, but so making sure it's still functional
[10:07]
when, what not, one of the batteries have an expiration date and the pad have an expiration
[10:11]
date.
[10:12]
Oh, that's right.
[10:13]
All it goes for regulation after it's been moved to, um, okay, they're kind of pricey.
[10:18]
So, but they're priceless in the, uh, so, and I assume we have one, both buildings from
[10:28]
maybe the bus garage, the aquatic rec center, maybe in just for Dr. Horton, maybe to make sure
[10:35]
how many. How many to wear? I know I won't hear, I don't know if I have no work.
[10:40]
I feel much better. I don't know what the most garage.
[10:45]
I think there's one there, but I don't want to speak.
[10:50]
Yeah, I believe our nurse worked on this and so I think she kind of took some inventory
[10:55]
and there's a part of that process, so if there's some follow up there, I can double check
[11:00]
and come back at her next meeting with the locations if you'd like.
[11:03]
Right.
[11:04]
Yeah.
[11:04]
That or just maybe she is the champion that gets told.
[11:08]
Yeah.
[11:10]
I think she is going to be here.
[11:15]
Greg, school board reports will be held off.
[11:18]
The one thing I did, we just did our facility meeting, so the gym floor is mostly done.
[11:24]
Um, so fun. I stopped going to take a look at it when we're after the meeting. It's they've got a refinished and the lines are on.
[11:33]
Just waiting on base board to this point and waiting for the drive. So maybe don't walk out there.
[11:38]
It should be able to take a look.
[11:39]
I was that was I think that was I was able to see it for the meeting was not was still waiting on.
[11:47]
It's a dry.
[11:47]
I mean, I'm sure, but, yeah, you know, the rest of these will be updated except for number
[11:58]
seven, which is really the, the means of the discussion tonight, the school board's
[12:05]
superintendent team goals and
[12:09]
you had some thoughts on that.
[12:12]
Yeah, I can, I can speak a little bit to that.
[12:20]
I know you had some thoughts, too, and I think those could work their way into the
[12:24]
this is what I'm, how that maybe works together.
[12:29]
So I know this much, and so I'll just say that.
[12:33]
I've been told I have the past from the work perspective,
[12:36]
we have done a couple self-assessments potentially,
[12:38]
I think MSB had shared that we did maybe
[12:41]
one or two years ago on then, two years before that.
[12:44]
I'm not sure how we utilize that
[12:47]
or didn't utilize that, I had no information on that.
[12:50]
that generally, just speaking for myself,
[12:57]
the strategic plan really kind of guides my work.
[13:00]
Like that's the community's plan that the board has adopted
[13:02]
and we've done through the process
[13:04]
and now that's what I, that's my charge
[13:06]
and that's what I try to follow and check in on the update you want.
[13:10]
I met with our leadership team yesterday
[13:14]
and we just kind of went on the room
[13:15]
and I just had some very honest questions.
[13:17]
I just said, you know, from our strategic standpoint,
[13:19]
point, what is your perspective on how much do staff, how much buy-in do our staff have
[13:27]
to our current strategic plan, how much do you think our community has, and so have
[13:31]
been asking that questions, and just know right around just trying to get up also that.
[13:35]
And it seemed that there were some good intentions about trying to engage our public and their
[13:41]
families and all that.
[13:42]
We just maybe can get as many people here as we wanted as kind of a hearing, and so I didn't
[13:46]
feel like there was a lot of buy-in with that from our staff and that doesn't mean it's not a great
[13:51]
plan. It's just they I don't really know if they feel like it's their plan as much and I think
[13:57]
us going through this process will kind of go back and maybe that I'll help line I think we'll kind
[14:01]
of help us go back kind of scoop them up maybe a little bit and reaffirm the plan is great or maybe
[14:06]
there's some adjustments and I think that's for the board to decide but I did meet with our teacher
[14:11]
you need the day two and I kind of asked them the same question and they they felt that they didn't
[14:17]
have a lot of eyeing into the plan so that's just in the feedback I'm hearing from people so
[14:22]
it thought that I had given that is that potentially the process that we're going through in terms
[14:32]
of going out to listen, going and then looking at the research and the data and then really kind of
[14:38]
coming forward and forming some goals together and bringing life to our current plan or updating
[14:43]
it, or if you feel like we need to do something different, or whatever your choice is, maybe
[14:49]
that's maybe where we center our work, how are we, and we're on team building as a board
[14:54]
superintendent team, like how are we coming together as a team around this, obviously we have the
[14:59]
Well,
[15:00]
So I think we have to kind of take that into consideration about maybe the timing of that. And when you want to start or don't want to start that, there's a lot of points could be made either way, but. So we're going to get some great information from our listening sessions, which will give us some little hanging fruit. And some things we can maybe deliver on and some things we maybe can't do yet, right? And then we're going to look at the research and say, how does this align or not align will engage the public, will engage the staff, will engage the students, will go through all that stuff.
[15:29]
going to the panel until we get to a point where like all right let's come together as a team
[15:34]
and kind of analyze that data and move forward. So from a school board superintendent team goals
[15:42]
you know that process very much this is something we could look at if that's what the board has
[15:47]
interest in there's a lot of data there there's a process there's steps to piggyback off of that
[15:55]
I just want to share one additional thing with you.
[15:59]
I met with some folks and we kind of talked about having a theme for the year.
[16:04]
And sometimes themes start all like really exciting, like day one, everyone's excited.
[16:07]
And then they fall flat with them all because you just get stuck with that.
[16:11]
So we talked a lot about that.
[16:14]
And we kind of centered on some things that we thought maybe would work.
[16:22]
And I'm just going to second here.
[16:24]
I'm not sure if I have to grab this somewhere else.
[16:29]
Okay, I have it here.
[16:34]
So the theme that we kind of talked about
[16:36]
that we thought really would,
[16:37]
based on what we've heard so far,
[16:39]
and just the listening we did is this.
[16:43]
Our headline would be to listen, reflect, and transform.
[16:49]
And if you're to ask me to share that in a sense,
[16:51]
that's a transformative future through listening, reflecting, and setting out on a journey of excellence
[16:59]
together. And the process that we kind of have laid out right now kind of goes with that when we start
[17:06]
with our listening sessions, that's listening, right? That's our July to October. When we get into the
[17:11]
needs assessments, that's reflection. You know, reflecting requires honesty where examiner systems
[17:16]
and data together can know how we, where we need to strengthen our foundation. And that's as a
[17:21]
the board to turn to a team we're reflecting, right?
[17:23]
We're reflecting from their community based on the research
[17:26]
on best practices in all the areas.
[17:29]
We're setting out on that journey together
[17:31]
as we move into the portrait graduate,
[17:33]
that shared compass, royal line, or portraits and skills
[17:36]
and that are reaffirming or maybe giving us new learnings.
[17:40]
But high engagement and listening goes through all that.
[17:44]
And then our journey really starts with reviewing
[17:46]
the strategic plan, reviewing all the data,
[17:49]
any adjustments we need to make
[17:50]
And then the excellent starts with that budget that reflects the priorities of the community.
[17:55]
So that could be a potential approach.
[17:59]
There's other ways we could definitely do stuff is a board self-assessment, a good idea
[18:05]
or not.
[18:05]
I mean, it would align to the needs assessment piece, which in how I outline some things,
[18:11]
you know, October to January time frame, which, you know, that maybe happens right after
[18:16]
elections.
[18:16]
We start that process.
[18:17]
I don't know if that's the right time or not, but the board would want.
[18:20]
but this could be the exact same board we have that comes back, right?
[18:25]
Like, it could be just like this.
[18:26]
If there could be some changes, we don't know that yet.
[18:29]
So, but we can plan for that and figure out how we all come together.
[18:33]
So, so that was just an initial thought that I had.
[18:39]
But I really like trying to line up a strategic plan personally
[18:42]
and I like to be aligned to your goals.
[18:44]
So, we're supporting each other because I want to be a support in an extension of you.
[18:49]
work that you've set the vision and mission and the broad view of where you
[18:54]
want us to go and then I'm going to go up and work with our teams to do the
[18:58]
work. So that's
[19:04]
so that was just some reflecting I had and some learning I had with
[19:07]
our team not sure if that resonates or not but it's a starting point. I like that
[19:13]
that idea. It's new leadership to follow somebody else's kind of thing. And if staff never
[19:22]
really got on board, then we need to talk about it. So, I agree. I see. And I think
[19:29]
to give us an opportunity to re-engage, like you said, with our community, because we did
[19:43]
a new dynamic and taking a bird's eye view of what does this look like, how do we get people
[19:48]
to engage? And then really, and you guys that have been on the board for a long time, but I really like
[19:55]
solid action plans and not plan sets of workshops. I don't think we can all commit to doing that.
[20:03]
I think it's a fabulous idea. Well, and to set Dr. Horton up for success and give you an exact
[20:07]
So new clear direction, plus that was done in quite a bit of collaboration with Dr.
[20:14]
Queener when he was year with her teamwork. So I don't remember how old that is now.
[20:20]
So two years? No, probably four. Do you think when we did this strategic piece,
[20:26]
as if we all remember, correct? They weren't completed. Like the computing
[20:30]
Yeah, similar to the strategic plan wasn't done until a year later.
[20:34]
Like, it never really, it's not a strategic plan, but then there's a process that fit into you.
[20:40]
So, yeah, I mean, it all, it was part of it, it was my college, it was long.
[20:46]
Your community is a voice that drives the strategic plan, and they were engaged at the
[20:52]
latter end of that planning process. Here's the question. Yeah, I was just talking about the
[20:56]
cards are just process. The information comes down on the strategic. I don't think I read somewhere
[21:03]
that we were, as a guide, we were supposed to review our strategic plan like every three years.
[21:10]
There's something like that. We haven't done it as far as I know since I've been, so I think now
[21:16]
would be a good time, especially aligning with a new leadership.
[21:23]
That's a good chance for us to work
[21:24]
together. So, yes, the election, but I don't know that we should wait either because
[21:31]
the work needs to happen regardless. So, so.
[21:35]
And just as a note to get input on that, that potentially could be something for advisory committee.
[21:42]
I think that's a great place to get to integrate group engage in this process to the office. We get
[21:47]
more community feedback and absolutely. That's true. The start of the week is to do an advisory.
[21:52]
If they could be that one pass it's really as many groups of you know staff parents, whatever, but yeah, when we want to get to the point of heck and all the data.
[22:04]
If reviving or even being a new strategic plan, whatever the direction is at that time, generally we have a group of people that we engage in that process and that group could very well slide into that role if that was looked aboard one.
[22:19]
If that makes sense, it doesn't have to be, but so I think take a look at what the group
[22:25]
is and there's groups that are missing and maybe we want to still maybe add a few other
[22:29]
people if we have.
[22:31]
Sometimes people can't commit to something like that, but their voice would still be really
[22:35]
valuable to our soul.
[22:36]
Probably better open.
[22:38]
Side later.
[22:43]
So in terms of, if that's the direction we're going, I mean, we could firmly embed some goals,
[22:48]
but coming together as a team, I think was one thing I've just kind of heard in general,
[22:53]
I think everybody wants that everywhere, let's do that, right, and then how can we
[22:58]
model that? And then we're at our action steps, right, like we have some distinct phases
[23:04]
we could break out into some check marks and when we look at the needs assessments, you know,
[23:10]
is that a chance for us to reflect to, like, okay, like what is good governance practice,
[23:15]
what it is, what are the things that we want to do,
[23:18]
and we can, I don't know if it's the MSB assessment,
[23:21]
but we can do some work ourselves to say,
[23:23]
you know, how do we fit into that,
[23:25]
and where do we want to go as a team?
[23:28]
Yeah, and again.
[23:30]
When is the next community newsletter going on?
[23:33]
So Friday, tomorrow we'll have a newsletter going on
[23:37]
to the first time it gets, right.
[23:41]
It's, and we'll have a board update in that.
[23:43]
Is there going to have one more before the advisory board advisory meeting meets for the first
[23:50]
September, 2014?
[23:51]
I see we had a plug in here for that.
[23:54]
We could put a specific here that we're going to be looking at just to maybe give people
[23:58]
an interest.
[23:59]
I'll be sure.
[24:00]
Yeah.
[24:01]
Another newsletter probably.
[24:02]
A little closer.
[24:03]
So people can.
[24:04]
Oh, yeah.
[24:05]
That's the set.
[24:06]
You know, right now it still feels far away maybe seven, thirty first.
[24:09]
So yeah, it would be at least one.
[24:14]
after the September work session, maybe?
[24:18]
I think Moan put it all over the world.
[24:20]
Well, sorry, starting tomorrow.
[24:22]
We'll draw them up.
[24:23]
Yeah.
[24:25]
If you want to shout some sort of like sign up communication,
[24:28]
so that we have an idea for getting engagement,
[24:31]
do we need to be more federal about it
[24:33]
and do cold calling, where we're calling people
[24:35]
and inviting them to be a part of that?
[24:37]
Just saying, is there a way that we could find a gauge
[24:41]
that prior to awaiting for people to show up,
[24:47]
I would, my thought was based on what you would share earlier was we kind of want to rebrand
[24:52]
and we do that group.
[24:53]
So my thought was the first meeting would be literally about taking staff of what has
[24:58]
been and what people are looking for.
[25:00]
And then using that group to try to maybe do some of the things you like.
[25:03]
Let's go to crudes and people.
[25:04]
If this is our one stop shop committee, I don't know if that's been determined yet.
[25:08]
But if we do say like, say school board advisory will also meet the statutory criteria for
[25:14]
we're a curriculum advisory and for community education
[25:18]
advisory which is all the different things
[25:19]
and we can build a gender on that rather than having,
[25:23]
I think of former superintendent of Verne,
[25:27]
is that all right?
[25:28]
Yeah, yeah.
[25:29]
Where's this big shirt that says volunteer
[25:31]
was an exclamation mark, right?
[25:32]
Like the guys are probably on every committee
[25:34]
and then?
[25:35]
Yes, he is.
[25:35]
Maybe some free time is probably thinking about
[25:37]
community too, right?
[25:38]
Like not everybody's able to do that, right?
[25:41]
And they have different abilities to do things,
[25:43]
But if we did it all in one stop shop like a hit maybe we wouldn't have to ask the same people to be on different committees
[25:50]
But we could build it in and
[25:52]
Maximize their time make them feel like they're having more impact and I don't know if that's the answer
[25:56]
But I thought the first meeting maybe that's part of the conversation and it gets some feedback from you to understand that's what you would like
[26:04]
So yes, I was thinking that ain't I can write that first meeting
[26:08]
Okay
[26:09]
How about, um, is there, um, granted you haven't intended to get to know you days of the elementary and I haven't either.
[26:16]
Is there a, but I know she has tables for lots of, you know, obstacles, you know, whatever that comes those first two days when she has that, I don't know if we can hide.
[26:26]
Schoolwork advisory in that setting to a building full of parents to try to engage some of our younger families to incoming and.
[26:35]
I think a lot of times in some of my high school parents, which that's not bad, but if they
[26:39]
could get so much to a table, I can't you know, you may be talking about that, but I don't
[26:47]
know who's going to stand there.
[26:49]
Let me just finally be pretty busy that day.
[26:53]
I don't want to mention it, it's too many.
[26:57]
You can sneak away that's.
[26:58]
If we do do a one-stop group, we would have to make sure we look at statute to make sure
[27:02]
we have the right percentage of people on there.
[27:05]
So like you might need 75% community,
[27:08]
you know, so we have to make sure
[27:09]
that it's not overly represented by staff.
[27:11]
Now, some people might wear a dual hat, right?
[27:14]
So we just have to kind of clarify that,
[27:16]
but that would be some of the homework to do maybe.
[27:19]
So recruiting would be awesome.
[27:22]
I also wonder if we want to have any parameters on that.
[27:26]
I think it's okay to have 50 people.
[27:29]
I don't know.
[27:29]
I don't know.
[27:30]
I've never been a pro.
[27:32]
Yeah.
[27:32]
I love your optimism.
[27:33]
No, I don't know.
[27:34]
Years ago.
[27:36]
There was a lot of people.
[27:38]
Yeah.
[27:38]
I don't know about 50, but still certain.
[27:40]
Yeah.
[27:41]
It was better in our younger days.
[27:44]
Yeah.
[27:45]
For my younger days.
[27:46]
For my younger days.
[27:46]
I like it.
[27:48]
So pardon me.
[27:49]
One is if we want to do a little more first before we can ask people, but I hate to ask someone
[27:54]
not to.
[27:55]
Yeah.
[27:55]
Sorry.
[27:56]
I guess we don't need to hear you.
[28:00]
Yeah, or if we need certain ratios to be, yeah, whatever.
[28:03]
Or especially like if this would be part of a pack,
[28:05]
I don't know, I'd any of you refresh myself on that,
[28:08]
but what percentage needs to be of certain demographic groups
[28:12]
or I'm not sure, maybe that one wouldn't fit in, right?
[28:18]
Like we might learn that.
[28:19]
Okay.
[28:27]
Anything else on team goals?
[28:31]
Next step, do we want to have formal goals as a board do you want that?
[28:40]
I'm assuming you probably want me to work with somebody or all of you on the superintendent's side of things.
[28:47]
Do you want, what would you like for me on that or who's involved?
[28:57]
So that's that's a lot of goal rating goal rating, but welcome to this time of your show.
[29:04]
Well, we're not very good about making goals for the board, but we talked about our had good intentions of late, but that's certainly Dr. Horton needs goals.
[29:11]
Yes.
[29:11]
And then, well, through this strategic plan, I guess, we can give the district.
[29:16]
And we're through this content, but yeah, we're through this strategic plan and it feels like
[29:24]
I'm always a huge proponent for work goals.
[29:26]
I think it's super important, especially if we're having everybody else underneath the board, having goals, having objectives.
[29:33]
What are they going to do? How are they going to conduct themselves? How are they going to evaluate themselves?
[29:36]
I think that starts at the top. This
[29:52]
work be easier to do in a committee.
[29:55]
Does it fall under any of our existing committees?
[29:57]
Please.
[30:01]
Has link work or is it better to have all six of us? We discussed more goals and super kind of goals last year at the retreat. Yeah, right. That was one of the main purposes of that.
[30:17]
I'd like that as a format.
[30:22]
Okay, but.
[30:28]
How have you seen things like this roll out in other districts that you've been afraid? You know, every district kind of has an all we have to mean that site. I don't know if there's a right way.
[30:41]
Some districts have a committee that is made up of like, they may call like an executive
[30:47]
committee or board leadership committee or something where they might take some of
[30:52]
this and do that work. I've seen some districts where they say, you know, we all want to
[30:56]
do that collectively. And so then that would lend itself more to the retreat version. I've
[31:02]
seen some districts where they have a third party taking through that process. So there's
[31:05]
a lot of ways, I think.
[31:09]
I don't so I don't think that there's a right way. It's a matter
[31:12]
of where you feel like that can best happen. Sometimes that's I'm trying to think of our
[31:19]
structure right now.
[31:26]
I think you could just identify like an ad hoc group just to say,
[31:31]
hey, let's just have these folks are interested in doing it and bring it back to the next work
[31:37]
session for some recommendations.
[31:41]
If alignment is important, then what I would do is try
[31:48]
to set my stuff with that. So I could meet with that group too if the head-on group did
[31:53]
it. And I would try to line my mind with that so it could all come as like one thing.
[31:57]
I've had conversations with all of our directors about evaluations and that, you know,
[32:04]
I see there are much of their evaluation process goals aligned to what we would decide and we've
[32:11]
talked about how it's important for all employees and our organization to have an opportunity to
[32:15]
get an evaluation. That's a good thing. Yeah, so even today we had a meeting about that with
[32:21]
somebody about how are we doing that for our transportation team and bus drivers and their educators,
[32:27]
but let's partner with them in that process. I'll just give it to them. We're starting with
[32:31]
something small, let's build that together over the year.
[32:34]
So if we did something like that,
[32:37]
then I would try to set that up as an initial starting point
[32:41]
and then refine that throughout the year
[32:43]
and in the coming years to get that really tight
[32:45]
once we kind of have that direction.
[32:56]
Very good.
[32:57]
Direction.
[32:58]
Good.
[33:00]
Tenero down, so we get down to the retreat,
[33:03]
but we've got a smaller group of ideas to work with.
[33:11]
And that can be done virtually or in person if that's-
[33:14]
So just have a committee-
[33:15]
I think that's-
[33:16]
Well, no, I'm going to initial it down or make stuff and-
[33:18]
Okay.
[33:18]
And then bring that to you.
[33:20]
Yeah.
[33:20]
After a treat or to the whole court.
[33:22]
Well, after a treat is fed in, it's been-
[33:24]
Even if there's something you don't want to have, 30 items you'd like to weed out the weak ones
[33:29]
and then decide-
[33:33]
Especially if you had to line them up with some other groups ideas that they said he's
[33:38]
aligned.
[33:38]
He's aligned.
[33:38]
I'll take time.
[33:39]
So, well, I mean, and then you can always, so is it input from the entire board to the, so, so, so these idea that might, by chance, be a good one as a pop in that tree.
[33:55]
So, they're starting out with everybody, but the committee will be developing and finalize it in now with the whole words there.
[34:05]
So
[34:10]
I'd pick a committee tonight to get some of this work going since August.
[34:21]
There will be more.
[34:33]
Can anybody else like it?
[34:35]
Or do we look at this?
[34:36]
We can't go more than three.
[34:38]
Right.
[34:38]
Let's do two today.
[34:39]
I'll be home here.
[34:40]
So I'm specifically stepping back to make sure that everybody else gets an opportunity,
[34:44]
because everybody knows how I am about.
[34:46]
I've had some feelings.
[34:49]
I'm feeling, so I want to make sure that you guys all have an opportunity to also be
[34:53]
try that. Yeah, kind of either way. But one that will. Okay. We put up, sorry, with
[35:05]
this three. Kirsten's meeting. Okay. Got it.
[35:11]
And for them, they make it in this time. It's hard. Yeah. We'll help you move without you
[35:15]
going to alternate it. And we can figure out if it's like hopefully a minute.
[35:21]
In terms of like setting initial date, you want to do that now, so I'm going to send
[35:24]
on email to the three of you to like, I was like, my date of availability, yeah, so I'm
[35:28]
going to send on email.
[35:30]
I don't think I'm going to answer tonight.
[35:31]
Okay.
[35:31]
I'll send on.
[35:33]
Okay.
[35:37]
All right.
[35:37]
Still recording?
[35:41]
Yes, sir.
[35:42]
Okay.
[35:43]
The positive.
[35:44]
The camera didn't change.
[35:46]
Yeah.
[35:46]
It's a little slow.
[35:48]
You might like tap the table and then start talking, so it's on you.
[35:51]
Yeah.
[35:52]
Yeah, I've never used that X-Visit account voice that used an album and asked the sponsor
[35:56]
all for me.
[35:57]
Yeah, when we're done, we might try something, rotate a little bit so it's got two lenses
[36:03]
on on us, so it doesn't have to, anyway, it's not important for this.
[36:09]
Anything else on team goals?
[36:24]
So the next item on the agenda is a closed session, the closing session pursuant to minutes
[36:30]
I'm sorry, one minute. I forgot I have to take the second.
[36:41]
Okay. Before I do need to recess before we get in close session.
[36:45]
I'm good.
[36:46]
Yes.
[36:47]
Okay.
[36:58]
Whenever you're ready.
[36:58]
Okay.
[37:00]
We're interested in close session pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 13, D. 0.05, so Division
[37:05]
3B for confidential discussion with legal counsel regarding pending arbitration.
[37:20]
Okay.
[37:20]
motion
[37:23]
by patty. I
[37:29]
will second discussion of concerns on
[37:36]
fairers. Aye. Aye. Opposed? Aye.
[37:40]
Okay. We are closed as of 6.43 p.m. Stop there. Recording.
[37:52]
Can you stop it? Don't say that. Stop there.
[37:56]
The last thing on the agenda, we will reopen the meeting and go right to adjourn.
