[2:57]
Hello. Um, I've been asked to make sure
that you stay muted during the meeting.
[3:01]
If you want to speak, you need to raise
your hand. Um, something about feedback.
[3:07]
» Okay, I'm drawing online.
[3:23]
Yeah, I'm online's
[3:29]
here.
[10:12]
I can't hear anyone either, Ailen.
[10:19]
» So,
do you think they're just not started
[10:22]
yet?
[10:26]
» Yeah, I think that they are muted.
They're still muted. So, I'm not sure.
[10:32]
It's happening.
>> Yeah. Well, as long as they remember to
[10:37]
unmute the mute when they
>> Yeah. So, if not, we'll try to get a
[10:43]
message to them. Well, they just
unmuted.
[10:45]
» We We still don't have everybody here
yet, so give it a couple minutes. Okay.
[10:50]
» I'm not panicking. I just thought it
might be some technological glitch.
[13:11]
Go ahead and try everything on and all
right.
[13:18]
There you go. We can see everybody now
the way I should close the chat.
[13:25]
I'm
>> too annoyed.
[13:30]
So, they've been asked to stay muted
unless um they are going to speak um
[13:35]
just because there might be some
feedback.
[13:40]
» Okay. All right. Well,
>> one second. I'm actually going to stop
[13:44]
us for one second. I'm having technical
issues. Oh.
[16:46]
Okay. So, we're having some problems
with the live stream. Um, for whatever
[16:50]
reason, it's not connecting. Um, so we
can go ahead and start the meeting and
[16:54]
then if Chris comes to try and fix it
because I couldn't get a hold of him. If
[16:57]
he comes to try and fix it, maybe we'll
print the break.
[17:01]
Sound good?
So you guys don't have to be unmuted for
[17:05]
this part because I'm not worried about
echoing if there's no video feed.
[17:14]
» I'll leave it to Darling to say call us
to order.
[17:18]
» Okay.
>> Hi. Um [clears throat]
[17:22]
this is the uh Municipal Truth and
Reconciliation Committee meeting for
[17:27]
Tuesday, January the 20th at 11:00.
Um, welcome everybody. And online we
[17:34]
have Joan Costco, counselor Joan Costco.
And we also have Ailenart
[17:41]
from the um, uh, truth and
reconciliation committee member and
[17:46]
she's with the United Church. But
anyway, and then in the room here is
[17:52]
Naomi and u, for what's your name?
Michelle. Michelle.
[17:57]
Michelle. Yeah. And our
[18:01]
Are we on the
>> We're on or
[18:05]
» No, we're not on. We'll be up in try.
>> Okay. And then our support staff. So,
[18:10]
the two support staff uh the other
members couldn't um Brent couldn't make
[18:16]
it. So, okay. So, we call the meeting to
order now. And uh number two, the land
[18:23]
acknowledgement. Did anybody want to
read out? I will.
[18:35]
Monday.
[18:41]
As we start our meeting, we acknowledge
we are on the traditional territory of
[18:45]
Lak Soul First Nation Obiski Goan within
treaty 3 and that many of the people and
[18:49]
communities that we serve in Sul
Lookout, traditionally known as Wan
[18:53]
Kwagon,
meaning Bay of Sandy beaches, come from
[18:58]
treaties five and nine of the Inishnab
nation.
[19:02]
» Thank you.
Okay. Number three, the agenda 3A,
[19:08]
introduction of amendments to the
agenda.
[19:13]
comments. Okay. 3B, confirmation of the
agenda. We need a mover and a second
[19:22]
move. Eileen and Michelle.
[19:29]
Thank you. Uh all all in agreement.
Yeah. Sh.
[19:35]
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
So we shall move on to number four
[19:40]
declarations of pecuniary interest
there are none.
[19:48]
So
number five now [laughter]
[19:54]
» what was that?
>> I don't know what that means but if
[19:57]
» we're talking about anything that you
might have financial interest in you
[20:00]
have to take yourself out of the
conversation and and I don't have voting
[20:02]
ability at that point.
>> Okay. All right. That's fine. Okay.
[20:08]
Number five, the adoption of the minutes
uh from December 9th, 2005. And
[20:13]
everybody was either given or sent them
and I reviewed them. They look fine.
[20:21]
We need a mover.
Joan moves.
[20:28]
» Second. You weren't here.
>> Yeah. I wasn't there either.
[20:34]
» You came in late,
>> right?
[20:36]
» Mhm. Did I only
>> because Bren asked me if I if I
[20:42]
» if you would take over yet.
>> Okay. Sorry. I'll second it.
[20:49]
[clears throat]
[20:53]
It just seemed like it just
>> It was right there, right?
[20:57]
» Yeah.
>> Okay. So, all in favor? Yes.
[21:04]
Yep. All right.
And number six, business arising from
[21:08]
the meds
[21:14]
start updates that's in there update.
>> We'll probably talk about everything
[21:19]
that anyway.
>> Thank you, Megan, for the updated work
[21:22]
plan.
>> I go to council tomorrow.
[21:26]
» Yep. That's why I'm glad you're having
our meeting.
[21:28]
» Yes.
>> Okay.
[21:32]
Yep. So, we'll move on to number seven
now. delegations, presentations, and
[21:36]
committee presentations.
Around there are none. So
[21:44]
we'll move on to number eight. Uh items
for discussions.
[21:48]
So the first one is number one ga gala
viability concerns.
[21:55]
Would like [clears throat]
[21:58]
a few of us. So, I I sent the email that
I that I sent explaining that I had
[22:04]
concerns that this is very very close.
>> Yeah.
[22:07]
» Um and that some things had not yet
happened. Um and I know that Naomi
[22:12]
responded that she had similar concerns.
>> Um so maybe she should actually
[22:16]
» I I have no problem.
>> Yeah. Okay.
[22:18]
» Bringing them to rise. I mean like
they're discussion pieces so we're good.
[22:23]
» Should we talk about what we do have in
place?
[22:26]
» That will be addressed definitely. Oh.
[22:32]
Are we are we are we going into
discussion right now? Yeah.
[22:35]
» I thought we were still going through
agenda. My bad.
[22:38]
» Okay.
>> All right. So,
[22:41]
» number one. So, Gala viability concerns.
Um I I had voiced my concerns in the
[22:47]
email that just stated like we have a a
tight timeline to be able to do this. I
[22:52]
understand uh that we already have the
venue, those relationships and and uh
[22:58]
opportunities to work with people in
community. So, we're not negating the
[23:02]
efforts that have been done and uh
already been put in fa place. Um as a
[23:08]
group, Brent, myself, and Darlene met,
and we were able to go through some of
[23:12]
the nomination criteria, which we did
give in a handout, which uh I know you
[23:17]
ladies don't have online, so I'll read
it out for you. and it is just a letter
[23:22]
and also then uh developing a nomination
criteria form. So I'll just read says
[23:29]
the municipality of Sulakout's truth and
reconciliation committee will be hosting
[23:33]
a gala to honor celebrate people and
organizations who initiate or foster
[23:37]
unity and achievements towards
reconciliation. That's not in there.
[23:41]
This initial gala event is an
opportunity to nominate someone from the
[23:45]
community that has been identified to
have or promoted awareness,
[23:49]
strengthened, support or driven change
towards reconciliation and community. As
[23:54]
we begin to identify and seek out ideas
and criteria, we welcome insight for
[23:58]
future for the future. And that is kind
of more or less there to identify if
[24:03]
there's another kind of theme or award
that we want to be given. Our initial
[24:08]
gallow will be to honor and acknowledge
those in community who are change makers
[24:12]
and to further build upon a good
foundation towards future opportunities
[24:16]
to be living, promoting, and working
with each other. This year's nominations
[24:20]
will be nine categories with 10 distinct
awards. Now, youth 5 to 17. This award
[24:26]
is to recognize a youth for their
initiative and role modeling and/or
[24:29]
leadership values that support
reconciliation. Young adult 18 to 29.
[24:34]
This award is to recognize a young adult
for their initiative and role modeling
[24:38]
and/or leadership values that support
reconciliation
[24:41]
education as an individual. This award
is to recognize an individual that
[24:45]
fosters a fundamental role in sharing
education awareness or creating
[24:49]
opportunities for other to
reconciliation
[24:54]
corporation or private sector. And this
award is to recognize a group by a
[24:58]
corporation and or private sector
organization that shows action and
[25:02]
commitment to reconciliation.
Nonforprofit. Another group award. This
[25:07]
award is to recognize group leadership
by a corporation and or private sector
[25:11]
organization that shows action and
commitment to reconciliation. Advocacy.
[25:16]
And our terms for advocacy were along
the resiliency, a survivor,
[25:22]
[clears throat]
um a knowledge keeper that that has gone
[25:27]
through this. So this award is to
recognize historical resiliency and
[25:32]
advocacy towards the commitment of
reconciliation sports. This award is to
[25:37]
recognize the achievements of an
individual that engages education
[25:42]
that engages educates aware provides
awareness and shares a commitment
[25:47]
towards reconciliation through their
activity. I hope somebody's taking these
[25:53]
down cuz there's a few edits [laughter]
and engages in education awareness and
[25:58]
shares equipment.
>> Migr [laughter]
[26:01]
arts, music, and entertainment. This
award is to recognize the achievements
[26:05]
of an individual that engages in
education, awareness and shares a
[26:10]
commitment towards reconciliation.
Uh we have two awards for elders or
[26:15]
knowledge keepers. This award is to
recognize the achievement of a elder or
[26:19]
a knowledge keeper that continues to
educate, bring awareness, support and
[26:22]
mentoring for future generations.
Working with the community partners, we
[26:26]
hope to see your nomination. Please send
a complete nomination form to email and
[26:30]
then we give up on
>> Yes. Oh, and we and we put March 31st as
[26:35]
our uh designated date. [clears throat]
So,
[26:40]
again, going back to some of the time
constraints
[26:44]
uh and the opportunity to promote this,
we need to find out what our aggressive
[26:52]
um
>> We're going to get things out there
[26:56]
fast.
>> Yeah.
[26:58]
Because like even like if I complete
this by this week, this week like
[27:03]
Friday, whatever. I got to give myself a
timeline too. So if we complete it by
[27:08]
this Friday, um that is now the end of
January and that is a month and
[27:14]
[clears throat] a half, two months to
get nominations out there, make sure the
[27:17]
word's out there, uh build up some of
that buzz around it. I know we have some
[27:23]
concerns with the Facebook page because
we're not sure what we can share on
[27:28]
there. Um, are we as a truth and
reconciliation committee able to put
[27:33]
something in the newspaper where we
don't have the funds right now? Like
[27:37]
there were some constraints. We have
been able to through the sponsorship of
[27:41]
the program get one sponsor right now
and I think we have a budget of anywhere
[27:47]
from 10 to 12,000. I'm I'm going to
wager. Uh so those were some of my
[27:53]
concerns as to why I and again there's
nothing wrong with pushing things back.
[27:57]
It's just if we are going to be moving
things ahead, we have to have like a
[28:02]
very distinct timeline on what's going
to happen. And we don't have to make it
[28:06]
big at first. It can be it can be
something that blossoms, but we just
[28:10]
need to be able to see how um what those
initial
[28:15]
uh things are. So we we're looking at
the awards. We now have these distinct
[28:20]
10 awards. Uh we've talked previously
about in in in people who are invited as
[28:27]
well as sorry and people who have uh
been nominated their families and then a
[28:32]
100 person capacity. So
>> my concern with this year is if you
[28:37]
don't have them until March back and you
don't choose people, you can't
[28:42]
personalize the rewards. We don't I mean
that's something we talked about having
[28:45]
something carved specifically for
people. Would we not to be identifying
[28:51]
who they are and what they were
nominated for? There's not going to be
[28:54]
time for that
>> unless you do placards which again still
[28:57]
takes time because you could go through
Dryen or Winnipeg or Thunder Bay and and
[29:02]
again the these are like we have pieces
in place.
[29:06]
» So the discussion really is about like
the timeline. It is it is aggressive and
[29:11]
I don't know. Um I said I'd be working
on this over the weekend and I got
[29:15]
sidelined with a few other things. So
like we're all volunteers here. We need
[29:20]
to like look at our our uh support
staff. We need to look at those people
[29:25]
who are volunteer also the people who
are able to participate their schedule
[29:30]
and and and that's why I'm saying I'm
not against having it but like either we
[29:34]
bring it way down
or
[29:40]
or we or we go with it and we just see
what happens and that's
[29:45]
» Go ahead.
>> I'm sort of of the mindset that we have
[29:49]
to go with it because we don't because
we were going to do it last year. We
[29:52]
pushed it ahead if we and to coordinate
the four to get the caterer, the event,
[29:59]
the MC and the keynote speaker on the
same day took a lot of you know um
[30:06]
wrangling and we've done that. So when I
return from vacation next week, which is
[30:11]
on on Sunday, I'm planning on and once
now that we know how many awards we
[30:18]
have, I'm very confident that we can get
award sponsor and I'm going to try to
[30:22]
choose each thing and get people to
sponsor. So we already have like the
[30:27]
venue, the MC, the keynote speaker, um
the caterer, we have the the venue is
[30:35]
donated. So, um, for our finances, we,
in my mind, we have the $2,000 from the
[30:42]
Truth and Reconciliation Committee. We
have the $5,000 from Laxul. We have the
[30:46]
ticket sales, which let's say is another
th uh $1,000. So, we're already at
[30:50]
$8,000. So, we really only need
sponsorship for 5,000, which I'm
[30:55]
confident that the end of next week
we'll have that.
[30:59]
» I I agree. I feel, too.
>> I'm I'm not worried about that.
[31:03]
[clears throat] So, I already know who
the people that I'm going to talk to. I
[31:06]
just needed to know how many and we have
Jesse Fidler already in place willing to
[31:11]
do the carvings of the of the feathers
as the award. He's committed to that. We
[31:15]
just need to let him know we need 10
now. Um, and then like you said to get
[31:20]
the plaques. The hard part will be once
we get the nominees is to do the
[31:25]
personalization in the we'll have three
we'll have three weeks. So, um I think
[31:32]
we need to partner with a couple people
like for set up and to do the actual
[31:36]
physical work. Um we all we already have
like for the caterers I got um
[31:43]
accommodations donated for the out of
town chefs already. Um you know I'm
[31:48]
going to try we have to have our own
servers. So I'm going to contact the
[31:53]
girl guides and see if they'll serve. We
already have someone who's agreed to run
[31:56]
the mocktails bar. So, we have a lot of
stuff in place. So, I think it's just a
[32:03]
matter of, you know, um
I think we can pull it together in
[32:09]
because we have all of you know, one
week left in January, February, March,
[32:14]
and three weeks in April. So, we have 12
weeks. So, and I'm sort of committing to
[32:21]
work at on this sort of full-time for a
couple of weeks to make sure we're where
[32:25]
we need to be.
>> That's good, buddy. You got the
[32:28]
commitment.
>> Yeah.
[32:32]
» So, I I think we should just plow ahead
and just hope for the best.
[32:39]
» I guess we need to get the uh
sponsorship letters out almost right
[32:43]
away.
>> Yeah. My vision on that was just to go
[32:46]
actually handd deliver them and speak to
people.
[32:49]
» Okay.
>> So that's sort of the plan next week.
[32:52]
» Yeah.
>> The press release should be written up
[32:58]
for um uh to let people know that that
this will be happening. something should
[33:02]
be sent out to I don't know CKDR
uh Sue Bulletin
[33:09]
newspaper the local area
um press
[33:15]
I think WASA has a radio station as well
so
[33:20]
» and WA was excited about doing anything
that they can to help support any of the
[33:25]
events they were excited that I was on
the committee and and they're like
[33:28]
report back we'll we'll do what we can
let us
[33:32]
And then for the uh bags, I guess for
the the um gift bags or or the um what
[33:40]
do you call those uh bags that everybody
gets?
[33:44]
» Swag bags.
>> Ah,
[33:46]
» swag bags.
>> Yeah, the swag bags.
[33:50]
So, that stuff would need to be ordered.
I think those are some of the things
[33:54]
that need to be done almost right away
within the next week. Well, hopefully
[33:58]
that'll work out. Um,
[34:04]
what else?
>> I do have a question, Joan. Sorry. Um,
[34:08]
you said that like there was funding
that was going to be coming out of truth
[34:12]
and reconciliation
and that kind of came to 8,000. So, we
[34:16]
got the five that was donated in the
sponsorship from the one letter
[34:21]
» and the two like our committee has
$2,500. So, we have to do a motion to
[34:27]
say that we're going to spend two of it
on this gala and then if we
[34:31]
» that could be just in principle, right?
Because if there are additional
[34:35]
sponsorships like
>> Yes. Yes. That's just if we need it. If
[34:39]
we don't need it, if there's money left
over um you know, we could forward it to
[34:44]
our our garden project, right? So
hopefully we'll get we'll have
[34:48]
sponsorships, but in the meantime until
we get that money, we we pro we may have
[34:53]
to allocate some of our own money,
right?
[34:58]
» And and that budget was discussed of
2,000 from this committee.
[35:01]
» No, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying
we need to do a motion today.
[35:06]
» Okay. So then it's it's actually not a
basis, but it is a place for discussion,
[35:11]
» but it like we haven't discussed that
cuz I was like, what? I don't remember
[35:14]
that. No, but we did discuss like we put
in our work plan that this is what we're
[35:19]
going to do with this money. So, um
because we have the $2,500 and we need
[35:24]
we would need a little bit of money to
run the summer events, but other than
[35:28]
that,
um you know, we don't the money could be
[35:33]
allocated to this event.
[35:37]
» Thank you.
>> I thought some of the money was supposed
[35:39]
to go toward the purchasing of the
garden itself. Mhm. That's that's why I
[35:44]
said I we haven't had the full
discussion on where the funds are going
[35:47]
to be disseminated. So,
>> it was it was just brought up in your
[35:52]
your your conversation just now. So,
that's why I was just asking cuz I'm
[35:55]
like I I wasn't sure if that was the
conversation we had. Um there is one
[36:00]
thing for the
work plan when we get to it. Maybe we
[36:04]
just need to add like a dollar amount
for what we'd like to budget to it just
[36:09]
so that we kind of see
>> add that for ourselves. This is the
[36:13]
version that's going to council tonight
or tomorrow.
[36:15]
» Okay. Yeah. For our
>> for ourselves.
[36:18]
» Thank you. Just so we have another one.
That way you can see where your
[36:20]
allocated funds are going.
>> And I don't think that we have to do a
[36:26]
motion every time we spend money. Right.
>> No, but we have to at least have a plan.
[36:31]
Yes. Yes, there has to be a motion to
spend money
[36:34]
» there by council. It does.
>> Yes, I have to have direction to spend
[36:37]
money.
>> So, there has to be a motion to spend
[36:39]
money, I guess.
>> Okay.
[36:45]
» So, other than that, then the tight
timelines and and if you're if you're
[36:50]
confident with the 12 weeks, I mean,
like we can give it a go. Definitely.
[36:54]
Yeah,
>> I just needed to ensure that we were
[36:56]
aware that there were some um timelines
because even though we have like the
[37:02]
logistics, we don't necessarily had we
didn't have up until last week
[37:08]
» a lot of detail. So, I mean for me it
was kind of like the cart before the
[37:12]
horse. So, uh like
>> but
[37:14]
» I find that too like as I was like
talking to people and I I didn't have
[37:19]
like full details yet of really what's
going on, they're like, "Okay, well, can
[37:22]
you still do a presentation for us?" So
like Slam, we I I had approached them
[37:26]
and talked about maybe having like um
>> a market before so that we're selling
[37:30]
indigenous artists,
>> you know, prayers and stuff like that.
[37:34]
And then and so they they just want to
know some more information and what this
[37:37]
is all about. And I don't know if that's
going to come out in like, you know, a
[37:41]
letter like some of these things like
what the, you know, I could take some
[37:44]
stuff together and do that or if it's in
a letter, um, like the letter that we're
[37:49]
handing out to businesses if it's going
to all be in there and I just bring that
[37:53]
and talk. I don't know if there's other
ways that we want to do a presentation
[37:56]
for SLAM. Um,
>> and everyone else too and
[38:00]
» everyone else for Yeah. like how great
we want to approach them with like this
[38:04]
is what we're doing, this is why
>> what are you able to do with this?
[38:08]
» Um, and then also
>> one other thing I did want to discuss
[38:12]
today too is we've got options with
Nadia being our keynote speaker. We have
[38:19]
» MC
>> No, Nadia's going to be the the keynote
[38:22]
speaker and the MC have approached
Elliot Dader win. Um, he still also
[38:29]
wants some more information and I've
given him tobacco and I'm holding it
[38:33]
until we have more information and he'll
accept. Um, so with Nadia like there's
[38:38]
there's different ways that she can do
her her talk and it can be
[38:44]
art based. It could be based on like her
documentary my students for granny or
[38:48]
different art that she's done and she
can she can speak through truth and
[38:52]
reconciliation through her art or she
can do it as um you know like a workshop
[38:58]
and and people understand it in a
different way through her her workshops.
[39:02]
I have her resume here today too. It's
just it's four pages long with all the
[39:06]
different ways that she can kind of
bring bring it together. So, if we want
[39:10]
to if we want to talk with her, I can
also um arrange to have her zoom into a
[39:18]
one of our meetings if we want to just
see how we want to make that happen.
[39:24]
» That could possibly be on a subcommittee
meeting.
[39:28]
» Yeah.
>> Unless through unless through the
[39:30]
municipality she wants to do a
presentation because then that would
[39:34]
fall within what we could do during a
meeting. But if it's to like more or
[39:37]
less have a an idea of what she's going
to speak about, I'd let her do that with
[39:42]
the committee.
>> Okay. I think the reality is because I
[39:45]
talked to Brian about this is that we
almost have to just do a motion to
[39:49]
approve that we're going to spend
certain amount of money of our
[39:54]
committee's money towards this and
everything else is going to have to be
[39:56]
done in subcommittee because like
Michelle just said like you're talking
[40:01]
to people you're moving forward and the
the reality is when you you're doing a
[40:06]
first event that's never been done
before.
[40:09]
» Yeah. um like when we're out there
talking to people, we don't have
[40:14]
everything secured. We don't know what
it's going to be like. We have visions.
[40:18]
We all have visions that are going to be
pulled together and uh you know, as
[40:23]
things come up, we're going to address
them and we're going to figure them out
[40:26]
and we're going to you know, pull
everything together. But we but it's I
[40:32]
like Darlene's idea of doing a press
release of maybe, you know, work if
[40:36]
Brent will work with us and as a
communications officer, you know, and to
[40:41]
figure out what we need to get out there
and if we can work with him to do that,
[40:45]
that would be fantastic. Get that
information out.
[40:49]
» So that would include like the different
nomination categories and we can send
[40:53]
that out to everybody as well, right?
And
[40:56]
» yeah.
Yeah. Like one of the key things that we
[41:01]
needed were those nominations. So now
that we have the nominations, then we
[41:04]
can move forward. Right.
[41:09]
» Sorry to interrupt. What was theme
again?
[41:11]
» I didn't put in the letter.
>> Yeah, we
[41:14]
» we still don't have a theme.
>> Theme.
[41:16]
» So like even though we sent out the uh
>> the monkey, the survey monkey,
[41:21]
[clears throat] we still don't have a
actual land on a theme. So like
[41:27]
» again,
>> yeah. like what happened with the like
[41:30]
what what was the result of the survey?
>> There was a lot of trouble with the
[41:34]
survey. People did not seem to
understand it and we did not come to a
[41:38]
conclusion on that survey.
>> Okay, good to know.
[41:39]
» So, I think your best bet would actually
be just to discuss it and choose
[41:43]
something.
>> Sounds good.
[41:45]
» Because that'll also help like identify.
>> Yeah,
[41:53]
» that's the theme. The theme says turtle
on there.
[41:57]
Yeah, that was just an idea we had way
back. But when we sent out remember last
[42:01]
time we sent out like you really liked
the one that was the resilience one.
[42:05]
What was the one that darling you like
that one? What was it called? Does
[42:09]
Michelle remember what it was?
>> Sorry. [laughter]
[42:14]
» If you turn into your um
>> I don't reference there. All themes are
[42:21]
there.
>> Okay. Was it like we remember Beyon
[42:24]
reise?
[42:28]
» That was mine. I like that one.
[laughter]
[42:33]
» Honoring the past, shaping the future.
>> I like that one, too.
[42:37]
» Honoring the past, shaping the future.
Yeah, I like that.
[42:39]
» That's probably my favorite.
>> Oh, yeah.
[42:41]
» And that's why I'm saying I know when we
were talking about it, we we we were all
[42:44]
like, "These are so good." Yeah,
>> it should be our like true
[42:49]
» but we should land on one today and just
go with it from that list
[42:54]
» definitely because that supports our
sponsor letter and it supports our
[42:57]
nomination letter. So we we need a name
or a theme. Sorry.
[43:02]
» Number seven,
>> you remember we honor we rise.
[43:11]
» Seven for you.
>> I I No, I still like number two. What's
[43:15]
number [laughter] two, Naomi? Naomi,
what is number two? Read it out.
[43:18]
» Honoring the past, shaping the future.
>> Yeah, I like that one, too.
[43:22]
» You like that one?
>> Yeah, cuz it's moving forward, right?
[43:25]
» Yeah.
>> You guys want to vote on anything or is
[43:29]
there anything?
[43:34]
» You're muted.
>> Yeah,
[43:36]
» can't hear you.
>> I I'm unmuted now. Um, yeah. I I like um
[43:42]
Yeah, I like the what was it? Honoring
the past, shaping the future. I like
[43:47]
that one.
>> Okay, let's go with that one then.
[43:49]
» Okay.
>> Yeah.
[43:50]
» Want to vote?
>> Yeah, that's fine. [laughter]
[43:54]
» One, two, three, four, and five. Okay.
>> So, that's that is it. I know that shape
[44:00]
in the future.
>> Yeah, I like that.
[44:01]
» Wonder if that shape in the future.
>> That is our initial one. So that can
[44:05]
kind of and we want to keep these themes
for following years because they're
[44:08]
really good.
>> Yeah, actually they are
[44:10]
» because I I like that because it it it's
not only for First Nations to come
[44:16]
together in this truth and
reconciliation, right? And and if it's
[44:19]
about just like um we remember, we
honor, we rise, right? It's not bringing
[44:24]
that that spirit of together of of
together we move forward, right?
[44:30]
Please stop.
>> And I think it actually sounds really
[44:33]
good for the first one because then
you're shaping the future even of your
[44:37]
gala just to kind of grab that
recognition for next year. Right.
[44:42]
» Good job.
[44:46]
» You good with that, Joan?
>> Yep. Um Megan, can you send it out in an
[44:51]
email so we have the actual writing like
the actual words and we can all know
[44:55]
what it is tomorrow morning? [laughter]
Yes, I can do that.
[44:59]
» Yeah. And like the other thing that I
think is going to happen at the auction
[45:03]
too is we will or at the um gallas we
will have an auction. So those that
[45:09]
revenue from the auction I sort of think
that we should use that to the garden
[45:16]
» since donate donations of art pieces or
something.
[45:20]
» Yeah. Of different things. Yeah. And
even if we just have like, you know, not
[45:24]
make it too large, like try to get 12
items, which is not a lot, you know, and
[45:29]
then if each item, let's say, sells for
anywhere between$1 and $200,
[45:36]
you know, then we we would have $2,400
from that.
[45:42]
So, I think we should I really think we
should make the motion to allocate some
[45:46]
of our funds from our $2,500 towards the
gala.
[45:53]
It's just then we have money that we can
start ordering things right away. We're
[45:57]
not waiting for money to come in. We're
not waiting and then we can just replace
[46:00]
that money if we make money from the
gala.
[46:09]
Do people agree with that?
>> So our fiscal like we're we're already
[46:14]
do we go calendar or fiscal?
>> Yeah.
[46:17]
» Is our fiscal?
>> Oh yeah. So we're so we're already back
[46:20]
at January. We're at 2500 as of now.
>> Okay. Council tomorrow when they approve
[46:24]
your budget, you will have $2,500.
>> There you go. I I was I thought it was
[46:28]
fiscal like March. March.
Okay.
[46:31]
» Well, we might as well spend it all.
>> Yes.
[46:34]
We'll support we'll support this.
>> Keep in mind that you have you have
[46:38]
potentially rocks to action. You have
the banked bake off. You have other
[46:43]
events that you want to make sure that
you do consider. If you spend everything
[46:47]
now, there's nothing later.
>> Definitely.
[46:50]
» But in reality, like we have never spent
one cent on Rocks for Action. That's all
[46:55]
all the stuff has been donated. And
>> those people are no longer with us.
[47:00]
Right. You have spent money in Rocks to
Action because you've had honorarium.
[47:03]
» Yes. The honorarium. So that's the only
thing we need the money for is the an
[47:08]
honorarium for our our guest. And um
>> you spend $2,000. You don't have enough
[47:14]
for honorariums for two people. That
that's all I'm saying is just make sure
[47:17]
that you're considering that you have
it.
[47:20]
» Um
>> Yeah.
[47:22]
» Yeah.
>> But we need to know those parameters.
[47:25]
» Yeah.
>> Um I would be good to spend up to 1,500
[47:28]
in principle. Okay.
>> And and the reason why I put in
[47:32]
principle is because like we take 1,500
of our budget to and should it get
[47:38]
reallocated back then then yeah, we can
use it. But um I don't really want to
[47:44]
designate 1,500. That's my opinion.
>> You don't want to designate 1500?
[47:52]
» Not not right off not right off the the
budget. But again, like I think we'll
[47:56]
have a better idea when we look at the
work plan and see kind of all of those
[48:01]
other projects that we have on the globe
>> because in the past like our big the
[48:06]
things we spent our money on is the um
the elder for rocks for action and then
[48:13]
a project and this is our project.
[laughter] So and usually the banic bake
[48:17]
off like we didn't spend any money on
the banic bake off. Um,
[48:20]
» what if we go ahead and look at the work
plan and then come back to the idea of
[48:24]
spending money?
>> Yeah, I would like to talk to um Eric
[48:27]
Bordalus of Home Hardware. I think he
would be all over this. I think he would
[48:31]
really, you know,
>> he's on my list. Yeah. To talk. Are
[48:35]
» you going to talk to him? Because I
could I could
[48:38]
stretch it include things about
donations. Mhm.
[48:42]
» So, if if there's an organization or a
company or a business of talent that you
[48:46]
feel is going to be able to donate
something, even if it's something for
[48:50]
your auction or something for the swag
bags, that's that's what letters for to
[48:54]
or reach out to people with. Yeah.
>> And and I did put in the letter areas if
[48:58]
if all you have is some of your own
business swag that you want to put in
[49:02]
bags,
>> fine. That's great. That's being a
[49:05]
burner.
>> Mhm. Um it's just a matter of getting
[49:09]
those out to where they can possibly go.
>> Yeah.
[49:13]
» Yeah.
>> And I mean it is in our work plan. So
[49:16]
you guys would be checking off that box
too, right? Community rel relationships
[49:19]
and partnerships.
>> Yeah, for sure.
[49:22]
» So I think the only reason why I'm
saying 1500 from my perspective is
[49:26]
because we still have another like
thousand to work with should some of
[49:31]
these other projects come up. Um because
even when we did the signage, did you
[49:36]
guys have a picture in the paper yet?
>> No, it never got published. They came
[49:41]
took the picture and everything, but
they never published it.
[49:45]
» Good thing to do while we're doing this
campaign, I guess.
[49:48]
» Yeah.
>> So, you you can say we've kind of done
[49:51]
some of these projects [clears throat]
around town if you've noticed.
[49:54]
» Um
and then again, it's it's supporting
[49:59]
everyone who wants to participate. Like
I think this is really opening those
[50:03]
doors for relationships. So the gal is
good.
[50:07]
» Talking to them about it is good.
Building that relationship with people.
[50:13]
» You guys have a tight timeline.
>> Yeah.
[50:19]
Yeah. And Michelle, I can talk to you um
next week and we'll decide who can do
[50:24]
we'll we'll divide and conquer.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Cuz Yeah. There's some big
[50:28]
businesses and like even Moosehorn and
you know stuff like that. We can
[50:33]
» So
>> I've talked to Todd and Tracy at Fresh
[50:35]
Market.
>> Yeah,
[50:37]
there's some there's some big um
businesses out there and even some of
[50:41]
the um organizations around town may
want to support it as well.
[50:46]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah.
[50:49]
» NCan
[50:54]
and then the tribal councils. Yeah.
peanut wiggo ifna
[50:59]
» and kituin kowituin can help us by
printing for us
[51:05]
» ko
um
[51:08]
» and then they have the other uh what is
it ke
[51:12]
organization
>> but there's they're they're doing the
[51:17]
high school students uh
[51:22]
and uh family uh I don't know social
service for
[51:26]
» for KI. Yeah.
>> So that's kind of new.
[51:30]
» Then you already have Sliff now. You
might want to put in Manoa and just the
[51:35]
big organizations around town.
>> Yeah.
[51:38]
» Yeah.
>> And then the businesses, like you say,
[51:40]
businesses.
>> Yeah.
[51:44]
» And even some local artisans can donate
to the auction, you know.
[51:48]
» Oh, yeah.
>> Yeah.
[51:52]
» Yeah. Start tapping into some of the
artists. You know the other thing I was
[51:55]
thinking about was uh for the awards to
be presented
[52:01]
uh they should be presented by
dignitaries from solo
[52:06]
» like say the op
detachment commander and
[52:12]
maybe somebody else from the op could do
it. We could also invite the NAPS
[52:18]
officers to come come out and uh offer
offer a presentation to somebody. So you
[52:25]
would need I guess 10 10 awards
presenters.
[52:29]
» Yeah.
>> You can get somebody from Laxul to
[52:32]
present an award that you can come out
and present the award or Elvis I guess.
[52:38]
Uh he he'll be our chief. [laughter]
[52:42]
But um yeah, so we'll we'll we'll see
who can come out. The director for Man
[52:49]
Allen could come out and and uh present
an award or anybody else you can think
[52:54]
of that might
>> um
[52:56]
» and when you do that, you got to think
of what you're taking away from the
[52:58]
invites too, right? Yeah.
>> Because you said 120.
[53:02]
» That's for like the support. So that's
100.
[53:05]
» There's only 100 tickets and 20 We're
anticipating 20 staff members, right?
[53:10]
Isn't that what we decided?
>> Yeah.
[53:12]
» Volunteership.
>> And then we have 20 possibly settle
[53:15]
aside for those people who are being
honored.
[53:18]
» Yes.
>> Plus family then. Yeah. Like we're
[53:21]
already we're already getting down to
like 65 70
[53:24]
» invitations beyond that, right?
>> Yeah.
[53:28]
» Well, and remember in the letter
depending on the donation level you gave
[53:33]
them seats.
>> Yes.
[53:35]
» So letter has four seats.
Okay.
[53:38]
» So again, it's it's coming to crunching
numbers and and really honing in.
[53:43]
» Hopefully those four seats will be the
delegates that are presenting awards.
[53:46]
» Yes, exactly. [laughter]
>> Yeah.
[53:50]
Two words of fun.
>> You can't demand that.
[53:52]
» I know. [laughter]
[53:55]
» Before the sports, I don't know, you
would want to come up to the Bombers
[53:59]
with somebody from the Bombers.
>> Why not? Or
[54:02]
» coach or or even somebody from the golf
club? I don't know.
[54:07]
What about a principal from the school?
>> Yeah. Yeah. They could be a dignitary
[54:12]
that presents an award.
>> You know anyone? [laughter]
[54:17]
» I think it fit very nicely.
>> There you go.
[54:21]
» Well, slowly coming together. These are
just some of the outstanding questions.
[54:25]
» And the only thing I see may need a a
room for safe space for anybody who is
[54:32]
uh triggered or traumatized. We may need
a counselor in there, you know, from
[54:38]
Noden maybe to see if anybody can come
out and uh lend their supports that way
[54:44]
for us. So,
[54:51]
» I'll talk to adult ed for the safe
space. See if we can use that space.
[54:55]
» Yeah, a little safe space.
[55:02]
» What else? an elder I guess for the uh
event of an elder too.
[55:12]
Somebody to do the opening prayer.
>> Yeah.
[55:15]
» And the closing.
[55:20]
» Yeah. Once with you, Brent and Naomi,
once you've done all the nominations,
[55:25]
maybe the next thing you guys could work
on is the program.
[55:29]
like how is the the like how's the
program going to go?
[55:36]
[clears throat]
>> Yeah.
[55:38]
» And again, that will have to be done in
subcommittee, right? So, there's sort of
[55:42]
going to be two subcommittees sort of
like you guys doing the logistics and
[55:46]
then the boots on the ground doing the
work. Yeah.
[55:52]
And hopefully I was sort of thinking of
reaching out to an organization who will
[55:57]
come and be boots on the ground the
night to help us do work like you know I
[56:02]
don't know who like maybe Rotary or the
Lions or someone like that you know to
[56:07]
help set up and take down
>> maybe that's something we want to add to
[56:12]
our uh sponsorship letter is like what
can be done in kind.
[56:15]
» Yeah. Yeah. and then just say like I'd
be a we we as an organization would be
[56:21]
available to supply four people at this
time or whatever.
[56:27]
» Yeah,
>> that that might be good to add.
[56:29]
» Yeah,
>> I'm going to feel out for uh WASA staff.
[56:33]
They like to be involved in everything,
right? And we have our our staff meeting
[56:39]
on Friday and I'm going to bring some of
these and and and see who's
[56:42]
» available to do stuff. It was if it was
during the week, we would be like
[56:46]
mandated. you guys are going to help.
Yeah, [laughter]
[56:48]
cuz we are setting up
>> but if it's in the evenings and weekend
[56:51]
then then I'll I'll s I'll suggest it
and see who volunteers to come in. But
[56:56]
» because setup is is we've organized that
setup is on Friday. So it is during the
[57:02]
week the Friday setup but then we have
to clean up on Sunday which is not
[57:07]
during the week.
>> Set up
[57:10]
» but definitely set up. I can update the
donation letter to include the theme and
[57:16]
um that suggestion
>> possible in kind. Yeah,
[57:18]
» definitely in kind and see.
>> You never know
[57:23]
» cuz yeah, as long as they have a contact
to say, "Hey, you know what? We said we
[57:26]
can do this in kind." And then they're
able to talk to Joan and said, you know,
[57:30]
kind of give us like your layout. What
do you need for Friday? What do you need
[57:33]
for Sunday? And at the event and then
you you have at least that logistics
[57:38]
going. Yeah,
>> that'd be good.
[57:42]
» Well, I've also encouraged the use of
potentially reaching out to the high
[57:45]
school and the college for volunteers.
>> Their their people need volunteer hours.
[57:49]
They have minimum they have to meet and
let's face it, by April.
[57:54]
» Yep. [laughter]
>> So, I was going to send out like this uh
[57:58]
nomination letter um and some other
stuff to the high school. my my husband
[58:02]
is the vice principal there and so just
give him an idea of all the the the
[58:07]
categories and you know like he's got
his eyes on the ground knowing where
[58:11]
where you know possible some students
and stuff like that could be tapped on
[58:15]
his shoulder um and and then also
suggests like volunteering and and who
[58:21]
wants to get in there as well and he
works with the partners as well like all
[58:25]
KO and Shabuma and um windo if not and
So we can probably see how that that
[58:33]
works through there too through the
school.
[58:37]
Yeah.
[58:42]
» Anything else on this topic until we get
back to the financial aspect?
[58:50]
» So do you think we should make a motion
now to spend the $1,500?
[58:55]
» I thought Naomi wanted to talk about the
work plan first.
[58:57]
» Okay, let's do that. If we are okay,
then we then we can ballpark where we're
[59:02]
at.
[59:08]
[clears throat]
[59:11]
» So, we're going to review the work plan
first.
[59:14]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. Okay. They'll
[59:17]
» updated work plan and education campaign
uh complete or ongoing stand project
[59:24]
creation of standies for has been
completed. Additional requests were will
[59:29]
be reviewed as received. Education will
continue to be supported on as needed
[59:34]
and opportunity based basis.
Public space and memorialization.
[59:41]
Uh creation of public space designated
for reflection and hailing. Uh council
[59:47]
has approved a public space for
relocation of the memorial. Uh
[59:52]
relocation of existing memorial to
memorial garden near the travel
[59:56]
information center is planned for the
spring. Additional elements may be
[1:00:01]
explored as the project progresses with
the understanding of anything outside of
[1:00:05]
the garden requires further council
approval and uh provide input on
[1:00:10]
municipal projects as requested as per
2026
[1:00:16]
to 31 strategic plan.
>> Okay. So,
[1:00:21]
what when um Joan when you were talking
with Lena, what were some of the costs
[1:00:26]
associated with this? Was there anything
like
[1:00:32]
the the public space? I couldn't
remember if there was going to be like a
[1:00:35]
little display that we were hoping to
have.
[1:00:41]
Can't hear you, John.
Microphone. Yeah.
[1:00:47]
» Sorry. We're doing a physical garden.
So, we have to purchase like the garden,
[1:00:52]
the actual building material.
>> And then we wanted to do some kind of
[1:00:57]
display. So, and we would need dirt and
plants. So, the plants can be available
[1:01:04]
for donation like people can buy them in
honor of other people, but we would need
[1:01:07]
to build the physical infrastructure,
which it's quite small. It's not that
[1:01:13]
big. And it would be nice to have some
type of art application within the
[1:01:18]
garden that can hold some of the shoes
or a shoe or something.
[1:01:23]
» Can I ask
>> I think we should be able to pull that
[1:01:25]
off for easily for $1,000 like
>> what are the dimensions of the the
[1:01:34]
garden again?
[1:01:38]
» Megan, do you know the exact dimensions?
It wasn't very big. I'm going to say
[1:01:41]
less than eight. Not. I have to look it
up. Give me Give me a few minutes. So,
[1:01:45]
» they're like 4 by eight or
>> eight by Yeah, 12 by eight.
[1:01:50]
» 12 by eight. Okay.
>> Yeah. Which when you're building things,
[1:01:53]
that's dimensional lumber
>> sizes, right?
[1:01:57]
» It might even been thinner.
>> Yeah. So Joan, you and I were
[1:02:02]
» Joan, you and I were going to look at
the construction costs
[1:02:07]
» and the soil because if we do that
fairly soon, there is a grant in the
[1:02:14]
United Church, but we need to do it soon
because the deadline for the application
[1:02:18]
is coming up.
>> Okay. So we'll look at that.
[1:02:22]
» Yeah.
>> United Church.
[1:02:24]
» Yeah. the United Church is a healing
fund
[1:02:28]
to which we could apply for some of that
because that's that kind of thing that
[1:02:32]
they probably would fit their
um
[1:02:38]
whatever.
>> I'm not sure but the Anglican church has
[1:02:42]
some kind of healing fund as well.
>> Yeah. Well,
[1:02:47]
» yeah. Approach.
So, is that drafting of another letter
[1:02:51]
to make those relationships?
Just a thought maybe.
[1:02:57]
» Could do, but we can do it by just in
person.
[1:03:02]
» Yeah, that'd be good.
And then would we because they did some
[1:03:07]
donations like
again like when we build relationships,
[1:03:12]
we want to encourage people through like
acknowledging and things like that. So,
[1:03:18]
» yeah.
[1:03:29]
So, do we have a cost associated with
this
[1:03:33]
that we could ballpark at least the
>> public space?
[1:03:37]
» Mhm.
>> I thought it was around $1,500 was what
[1:03:40]
was
>> Wow.
[1:03:41]
» I thought that's what it was, but I
don't have the report that I wrote to
[1:03:44]
council at the time.
>> No, actually, it's right here. Um the
[1:03:48]
budget is $1,1500.
The size of the bed was 6 and 12 by 3
[1:03:52]
and 1/2 ft. Cost of flowers and soils
expected to be 1500 and $500 each year
[1:03:58]
for plants and projects.
>> Okay. So first is one to 1500 and then
[1:04:04]
each additional year is 500
>> not including the cost of flower and the
[1:04:07]
soil which is expected to be another
1500
[1:04:10]
» on top of every year. Well, I have
minutes.
[1:04:13]
» You don't cost that much for for
>> the initial the initial flower was 1,500
[1:04:19]
and annually 500 for the flowers because
you'll already have the so you might
[1:04:22]
» The flowers the flowers are perennials
so you don't replace them every year.
[1:04:27]
They're perennial flowers.
[1:04:31]
» I think we were considering there might
be some damage or animals or something
[1:04:36]
else.
>> It was just a safety net, right?
[1:04:38]
» That's a safety net.
That's a pretty generous safety net.
[1:04:42]
Like
>> it is actually [laughter]
[1:04:44]
my my annual dying at 200.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
[1:04:48]
» What was the what were the dimensions
you mentioned there? They sounded
[1:04:52]
smaller like three and a half
>> six and a half by three and a half.
[1:04:58]
» So it wasn't a very large garden bed.
Um, but it was budgeted for 1,00 to,500
[1:05:04]
and then like I said 1,500 cost and
flowers and soils
[1:05:08]
» and council approved how big a space?
Not six and a half. Like obviously
[1:05:12]
there's some like overflow but we have
to have everything in the bed was the
[1:05:16]
requirement, right?
>> Yes. Everything has to be in the bed. If
[1:05:19]
it's outside of the bed, it needs to go
back to council because the anything
[1:05:23]
outside the bed was being maintained by
the municipality. Anything inside the
[1:05:26]
bed was being maintained by the
committee.
[1:05:28]
» Okay. So, this this is one thing we do
have to consider when people do go to
[1:05:32]
memorial places. If you've gone to any
of the memorial places around our
[1:05:36]
region, um they're hanging things in
trees, they're hanging things, they're
[1:05:39]
putting things on the ground, they're
putting things in. So, we'd have to
[1:05:43]
ensure that people are aware like if
you're going to add to this memorial, it
[1:05:46]
has to go in the box. Then, we have to
be aware that should it expand,
[1:05:52]
then the next group needs to know that
maybe we need to take this other
[1:05:56]
structure outside. So the flower bed
could be and and this is just thought
[1:06:01]
the flower bed could be smaller than
that 6 and 1/2 and then you have an
[1:06:06]
actual place to put
>> additional things in because because
[1:06:11]
there is an honoring and leaving some
stuff there, right?
[1:06:14]
» What about building
something uh above the ground? Um, like
[1:06:20]
you have your space with your flowers
and everything, but I mean uh if you
[1:06:24]
build a structure in the shape of a
heart and and then have little uh
[1:06:30]
shelves.
>> Oh yeah. Around the heart
[1:06:32]
» things. Yeah.
>> Yeah. And then that way people could put
[1:06:35]
moccasins or
tobacco or you know candy on those
[1:06:41]
little shelves. I don't know if or hang
we could even hang something from the
[1:06:47]
» uh like say a crystal sun ray catcher or
something some kind of
[1:06:52]
» people will
>> yeah from the middle and uh you know
[1:06:57]
» there could be
>> I would like that
[1:07:01]
» round the flower bed there could
actually be a paved area so that if
[1:07:05]
people brought stuff
>> that increases cost.
[1:07:10]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. But I mean in the future like I
[1:07:13]
mean aside from the flower bed for now.
>> But I mean consider building outside.
[1:07:20]
» Yeah.
>> Something that holds something.
[1:07:22]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. It could be
[1:07:25]
» We don't have any restrictions on
building up, do we? [laughter]
[1:07:33]
» An artificial tree built. I thought
>> it having shelves in place with
[1:07:39]
branches.
>> Yeah, you could do that. I thought that
[1:07:41]
was one of the discussions that that
>> was really sounded nice
[1:07:45]
» because you know a lot of native artists
uh who do uh native art usually do a
[1:07:52]
tree of life.
>> Yeah.
[1:07:55]
» Yeah. A tree of life would be really
nice, you know.
[1:07:57]
» Yeah.
>> We we should we should
[1:08:01]
we should plant a white pine.
>> White pine. Yeah. Well, the only thing
[1:08:08]
about planting a white pine is it won't
fit in the box like in the end. Like it
[1:08:13]
will in the beginning, but in the end
when it's this big, it will be the
[1:08:17]
entire box. Yeah.
>> True. So, let's slightly bigger box.
[1:08:22]
» Yeah. Well, [laughter] you've been
approved for
[1:08:29]
» So, I think that that realistically I
think our costs were a little high
[1:08:33]
there. Um, I think 1,500 probably would
encapsulate everything, including the
[1:08:37]
soil, the plants, and the planter box,
because I remember looking up the
[1:08:41]
planter box at the time, and I believe
it was around $800 for the box itself
[1:08:46]
from Sprout, Inc., which I think was
what the company was. Um, if you were
[1:08:50]
still going to go with that,
um, that would leave you
[1:08:57]
$1,000.
>> Yeah. Because if we
[1:09:00]
» if with the garden if we um I don't like
the idea of purchasing a plastic box.
[1:09:05]
I'm sorry. [laughter]
>> Like using an organic material like we
[1:09:09]
could get rough on lumber and make one
for well under
[1:09:13]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. And with the size of the with the
[1:09:17]
size of the garden, it's not going to
need a lot of soil. And it's just the
[1:09:21]
plants, the perennial plants,
>> which are more expensive, right? Like a
[1:09:24]
perennial plant can run anywhere
between$10 to $20 per plant.
[1:09:32]
» You can ask the best idea. I'm just I'm
just throwing this out because I know
[1:09:35]
we've discussed it. If you're talking
about selling the plants or or donating
[1:09:40]
the plants to people to do this every
year, wouldn't you want to have plants
[1:09:44]
that come out at the end of the year?
>> Kind of have like a a new like a
[1:09:48]
awakening every spring like let's plant
this again. like just to honor it
[1:09:52]
instead of just we can forget about it
because they're going to grow again, but
[1:09:55]
like intentionally every year planting
new flowers.
[1:09:59]
» That's the intention. Yeah, definitely.
>> We could or we could even do a a hybrid
[1:10:04]
where we're doing
>> the border replant every year and the
[1:10:08]
center of the plants being
>> we could probably also like separate
[1:10:12]
some of our own plants in our gardens
and add to it. Like I have perennial
[1:10:15]
irises and hostas that I can donate.
I'll have like tons of them. But I think
[1:10:21]
our vision was that they're going to be
orange or the color scheme is orange,
[1:10:25]
» right?
>> So, as long as your plants are orange,
[1:10:28]
[laughter]
[1:10:32]
» it's nice to have some, you know, maybe
traditional healing plants as well.
[1:10:42]
» Tobacco seeds. [laughter]
>> Well, you can plant you could plant.
[1:10:49]
» Okay. and we need to associate a cost to
it. So, we we've talked about the box
[1:10:55]
being 6 1/2 by 3 and 1/2 ft. Um, we've
taken into consideration that there
[1:11:00]
needs to be a place to put things within
that box because anything outside of
[1:11:04]
that, like there has to be a clear a
clear idea of why we're putting this
[1:11:10]
memorial there and then coming up with a
cost to support it because it's
[1:11:16]
something we want to do in the spring.
So again, are we are we budgeting
[1:11:21]
towards this of like $1,000 and kind of
like you said, Joan, we have some,
[1:11:26]
pardon me, opportunity to have a box
built for us rather than a bought box
[1:11:31]
and then possible [clears throat]
donations for people to and then how do
[1:11:36]
we get that out there that like, hey,
you can buy a plant or are they just
[1:11:40]
buying their own plants and then going
and like
[1:11:43]
» planting it? But that's what I'm saying
like like there has to be some sort of
[1:11:47]
like
>> this is the day, this is the plant
[1:11:51]
ready, come in and buy your thing or you
know. Yeah.
[1:11:54]
» There. Okay. I like that. I didn't think
>> and we can even convince Home Hardware
[1:11:58]
to bring some of their plants there and
sell them on the spot and then have a
[1:12:02]
ceremony and then if people want to buy
a plant to put one in, they can.
[1:12:06]
» You know, there would have to be a set
number like this is the vision and you
[1:12:10]
can buy these plants in honor of people,
>> you know.
[1:12:14]
Not only are honorariums for elders, but
they're also for knowledge keepers. So,
[1:12:18]
if you're going to do something along
this line, too,
[1:12:22]
» you need an honorarium.
>> You need an honorarium.
[1:12:24]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. If if you're doing ceremony,
[1:12:26]
right?
>> Yes. Yes. Yeah. So, I think that we
[1:12:31]
should still just budget $1,000 for this
event.
[1:12:36]
» Okay. How about we How about um I'm
willing to go to Home Hardware and get
[1:12:42]
um estimate for the the wood for making
the thing. Um who Joan, you sound like
[1:12:50]
you you know about plants. Why why don't
you do a little bit of research and come
[1:12:54]
up with a list of plants that would be
>> Well, the nice thing is Eric Bordalus
[1:12:58]
and his wife are landscape designers. So
they are they have huge knowledge. So
[1:13:05]
last year when we talked about this, I
did talk to him about it. So he can just
[1:13:09]
rattle off. They can come up.
>> Well, let's do that.
[1:13:12]
» Because
>> yeah,
[1:13:14]
» I mean, as I said, I think I can get
money through the United Church healing
[1:13:20]
healing fund. So if we but we need to
have a budget for that. So, if you could
[1:13:26]
go back to them and, you know, get a
list of plants and estimate cost.
[1:13:31]
» I'll do the the estimate of the planter.
How high do you want the planter?
[1:13:38]
» Like two feet around.
>> I'd say two feet.
[1:13:41]
» Yeah. Okay.
>> Okay. So, we're estimating 1,000. Sorry,
[1:13:48]
» Yep.
>> That sounds good.
[1:13:51]
» You good with that, darling?
>> Yeah.
[1:14:01]
So, we're going to move on to the next
thing on the work plans.
[1:14:07]
» Yeah, sorry.
>> That's okay.
[1:14:09]
» I'm busy eating. [laughter]
>> We all did that.
[1:14:12]
» Just trying to keep us on track.
>> Community relationships and partnerships
[1:14:18]
ongoing. Um, community events, blueberry
festival, orange shirt day, the gallow
[1:14:24]
awards, um, opportunities for
collaboration
[1:14:28]
will be scored as they arise,
input on municipal project as requested
[1:14:35]
per the 26 to 31 strategic plan. Um I
don't know if we've seen any of that but
[1:14:42]
uh anyway the events [clears throat] and
the commemoration ongoing annual
[1:14:46]
blueberry festival orange shirt day the
TRC gala awards
[1:14:52]
communication and public information.
This is new. So we need a we have to
[1:14:57]
have a website with recent information,
events, activities, land acknowledgement
[1:15:03]
and if approved with audible
demonstration. A Facebook page request
[1:15:08]
has been sent to CAO with detailed
information for review. So I don't know
[1:15:13]
if there's any movement on those things.
Uh creation of a traditional protocols
[1:15:20]
guide for distribution.
This is new uh create information to be
[1:15:25]
shared with the general public regarding
traditional protocols such as
[1:15:28]
information on honorarium smudging
presenting tobacco etc. Um,
[1:15:35]
okay.
>> So, that's one. If you're hoping to
[1:15:38]
actually create and distribute, unique
printing costs,
[1:15:43]
» we can check with Qi2 for support in
that way.
[1:15:49]
» Yeah.
>> And the reality is on your work plan.
[1:15:52]
» Yeah.
>> There has to be some sort of idea on how
[1:15:54]
to get to it, right?
>> Yeah. So, the reality is like to do the
[1:16:01]
We won't be printing this year. we would
be printing, let's say, in January,
[1:16:05]
right? Like it would it's going to take
a lot of work to pull that together. So
[1:16:08]
on this thing, the only thing that
requires funding for this year is the
[1:16:13]
garden and the gala and the um elder
rocks for action.
[1:16:20]
» We don't have much extra day stuff.
>> No,
[1:16:25]
I don't think there's been any funds
allocated. Normally it's just we join in
[1:16:29]
with whatever Slifna or Chogan is doing.
Yeah. Friendship center. Thank you. Last
[1:16:35]
year we did the u on orange shirt day uh
we went out with uh Brent and uh Joan
[1:16:44]
and we did the filming of how to say the
town's name right
[1:16:51]
» and we gave everybody gift cards to try
>> or or actually most of them did pretty
[1:16:57]
well. [laughter]
>> I was amazed.
[1:17:00]
So that was a little side activity that
we did for on shirt day and the uh
[1:17:07]
» uh it was edited into one piece by Brent
and uh it turned out really good.
[1:17:13]
[laughter]
>> We can do something like that this year
[1:17:16]
coming up then.
>> I don't know what we're going to do,
[1:17:19]
[laughter]
>> but we'd like to do another educational
[1:17:21]
video on the same lines. We just need to
figure out what the topic would be.
[1:17:25]
» So we did buy the gift cards. Yeah.
>> How much were the gift cards then? Like
[1:17:30]
50 bucks, 100 bucks. What were you
doing? $10
[1:17:33]
» each
20 for $10 each.
[1:17:35]
» 20 for 10. So 200 bucks.
>> Yeah,
[1:17:37]
» that's good. That's still good. So
>> yeah. And then I brought some out from
[1:17:40]
my quil $25 ones. We we gave out some
more.
[1:17:48]
» Those were donated.
>> The gift cards were well received.
[1:17:52]
» Yeah. Well, getting to like learn the
word is good.
[1:17:55]
» And then Blueberry Festival. So two
honorariums.
[1:18:00]
We didn't.
>> What did we do for blueberry festival
[1:18:03]
before? What's
>> rocks to action? It was $250.
[1:18:07]
» Yeah. The one in Hudson. But we also had
the We entered the Banic Bake Off. Oh,
[1:18:12]
yeah.
>> Oh, yeah.
[1:18:13]
» We came.
>> Was there a fee with that? There was no
[1:18:17]
fee with that. Was there
just been your shirt?
[1:18:21]
» We made our costumes. So,
>> yeah, like Darlene and I paid for all
[1:18:26]
that. I think Joan took care of that.
Oh,
[1:18:30]
» they were surprised after
I went to Giant Tiger and I just bought
[1:18:34]
$10, no six or $7 shirts that I think we
made about 10 of them for everybody.
[1:18:42]
» We just painted them.
[laughter]
[1:18:46]
» We painted a Sasquatch on
>> Oh,
[1:18:49]
» because we were team team Sab, which is
Sab is the word for Sasquatch,
[1:18:55]
» right? So, we honored the the Sasquatch
or the Sabbak [laughter]
[1:19:01]
part of our team.
>> We even had the guy who dressed up in a
[1:19:07]
as a Sasquatch. He came by. He came
through the event and
[1:19:13]
» he's gone. [laughter]
>> There were those
[1:19:21]
big time.
>> Was it Dave?
[1:19:22]
» No, it was Eric Ransky.
>> Oh. Well, Eric would have had fun yet.
[1:19:28]
» He just ended up chasing him for a
little while and he had run into
[1:19:33]
[laughter]
[1:19:36]
» That's so cute.
>> Okay, so right now for that is like 450
[1:19:43]
for this those two items.
>> So that's 1450 and just stitch. So I
[1:19:49]
will I want to take into consideration
right now um the rocks to action over
[1:19:53]
the past few years have been donated and
then there's been some stuff. So we
[1:19:57]
don't have those people a part of this
committee anymore.
[1:20:01]
So we do have to consider
>> well we can ask if he wants to do that
[1:20:05]
again you know just on his own but I
mean uh we'll help with the authorian if
[1:20:13]
it's needed.
>> I would hope. Yeah. Because we use that
[1:20:16]
as an education right. Yeah.
>> So, but I'm just thinking for like the
[1:20:21]
rocks, the paint stuff, those were in
kind before.
[1:20:25]
» Yeah, we still have that whole kit. We
have everything still. So, we have we
[1:20:30]
purchased everything. We purchased
chairs, umbrellas, we we've got a popup
[1:20:34]
thing, a popup thing now. We have the
tablecloths. We have all the art
[1:20:40]
supplies. It's all in a bin. We just
grab the bin and go and get rocks and
[1:20:44]
get an elder.
So hire an elder to do it and last year
[1:20:49]
we had we've had two different elders
each time. So
[1:20:53]
» that's why I was asking like because
last year there was an increase in
[1:20:57]
honorarium. So that's why I'm trying to
figure out like we can't just give one,
[1:21:02]
right?
>> We had just one person, didn't we,
[1:21:04]
Megan?
>> I thought you had only one person.
[1:21:08]
» We had one person.
>> You're hoping for two. Yeah. You would
[1:21:10]
give both people an honorarium. you're
not going to be
[1:21:13]
» we just need one person with him because
last year what happened last year was um
[1:21:21]
because there were other events going on
in Hudson where before we were the only
[1:21:25]
event so people came and sat where
people flowed through this time. So la
[1:21:30]
the first year we were able to have the
elder do a presentation because everyone
[1:21:35]
was sitting. But last year the elder had
to stop and talk to each group that came
[1:21:41]
through. So it wasn't just one thing. So
and he actually did like a little walk
[1:21:47]
around town too. So which was
interesting. So it sort of changes based
[1:21:52]
on how what's going to happen in Hudson,
right? Because last year Hudson had sort
[1:21:57]
of like a little fair. They had like
history stuff in the hall. They had
[1:22:01]
stuff in the seniors. There was other
stuff. There was a little dog show
[1:22:06]
thing. So, there was lots of other
things to move around. People move
[1:22:09]
through the community.
[1:22:18]
» This cabinet, I know I'm moving on maybe
a little bit too quickly, but it's not
[1:22:22]
on our stuff here.
>> The cabinet. Uh, was that in kind? No,
[1:22:28]
we bought it from last year's money with
our extra money that we had at the end
[1:22:31]
of the year.
>> Yeah,
[1:22:35]
» we have 26 cents left.
>> Yeah,
[1:22:39]
» I did good spending, not
>> you did. You did good.
[1:22:42]
» Appreciate you, Megan. [laughter]
That I purchased Reflections and I
[1:22:48]
[clears throat] ended up getting it on
Black Friday and everything was like 10%
[1:22:52]
off was free shipping. So, I was able to
get $130 more of items, which was really
[1:22:58]
nice.
>> Yes.
[1:23:00]
» I just have that box in my office right
now.
[1:23:03]
» Awesome. That's what we need.
>> Especially going forward, right? We can
[1:23:06]
use that. Yeah.
>> It's nice that it just the supplies just
[1:23:10]
add up
>> after year and you'll have your
[1:23:13]
» I got I got a pretty good variety.
There's mugs, there's aprons, there's
[1:23:17]
dish towels, there's puzzles.
You can come down and see it if you
[1:23:22]
want. This is swag.
>> Yeah. This is either stuff that you can
[1:23:26]
So, so most of it obviously doesn't
they're not all the same, right? So,
[1:23:30]
everybody who's going to come in might
get something different. Um or
[1:23:35]
potentially you put them together if
you're trying to do a silent auction
[1:23:38]
instead of swag if you can't get the
swag. You put them together in bundles.
[1:23:42]
» Yes. Cuz they all sound like they could
be in bundled.
[1:23:45]
» Most of this is um store manager can
have designed. Most of it, not all of
[1:23:50]
it.
>> She's on a She's on a rise right now.
[1:23:52]
That's amazing. She's doing great. You
saw her artwork on the IFNA vehicle. She
[1:23:57]
did the bombers jerseys like
>> her scarf and she
[1:24:02]
» store magic.
>> Oh,
[1:24:04]
» there are a lot of talented artists.
>> Okay.
[1:24:07]
» But yeah, you guys are welcome to stop
downstairs before I leave if you want to
[1:24:10]
take a look.
>> Totally will.
[1:24:12]
» Yeah, me too.
>> Okay, so right now we're sitting at
[1:24:15]
roughly $1,400 which would play into,000
for the gala. I love her artwork.
[1:24:23]
» Oh, yeah.
>> Beautiful.
[1:24:26]
» That's a nice scarf.
>> She's chasing.
[1:24:31]
» If you're very convinced that you're
going to be able to gain donations from
[1:24:34]
people for the galla, then it's awesome.
Should be sufficient to
[1:24:37]
» I think we'll have no problem getting
another $5,000 from the community. Like
[1:24:41]
I like easy and more.
>> You're absolutely right.
[1:24:46]
» Yeah. Well, as soon as we get them.
>> Yeah, I think so. So we would need what
[1:24:51]
125
of some things from people.
[1:24:57]
» Oh, you mean for like swag?
>> Oh, yeah.
[1:25:01]
[laughter]
>> 125 items for swag. Okay, good idea.
[1:25:06]
Good. I mean like there could be a
potential now for like some stickers if
[1:25:10]
we get a logo like some of those things
that could be a little bit more like
[1:25:14]
» associated with the gala that took place
because I mean everybody likes stickers.
[1:25:19]
You put them on your phone or
>> water bottles.
[1:25:22]
» Yeah. my life.
>> To get say the friendship center to
[1:25:27]
donate like
>> a stress ball
[1:25:30]
» or you know the hospital to to donate
>> women's shelter always has a
[1:25:38]
» swag.
>> Exactly. Yeah.
[1:25:40]
» What's the support services again? They
always have something good to do. Shabin
[1:25:46]
Robin Williams fans
[clears throat]
[1:25:49]
» for this year for the logo. We should
just use the sulode if we can use the
[1:25:55]
sulode logo on the bag on the swag bag
for now.
[1:26:00]
» How many packs do we have downstairs? I
don't know if we need permission. Uh
[1:26:03]
there's
still it would be nice to have it from
[1:26:08]
that to show that it is municipality
that
[1:26:11]
» Brian HR purchased a whole bunch of
grocery bags
[1:26:16]
» um when we were giving out stuff to our
staff. Um I can see if maybe we can
[1:26:21]
donate those like if the municipality
can donate them. Mike can
[1:26:24]
» I have a question too. So, uh, Darlene
brought up a big a good question. Like,
[1:26:28]
[clears throat] municipality, we're
we're a municipal
[1:26:32]
Oh, I can't even speak. Um, committee.
>> When we do an event like this, like, is
[1:26:38]
there anything that bars us from getting
our own logo for these events like that
[1:26:42]
we're hosting? Like, do we like, you
know, how on the standies we had in
[1:26:46]
partnership with your logo and then the
municipality? Oh my goodness. The
[1:26:51]
community
logo. [laughter]
[1:26:54]
So uh and then it said with partnership
with truth and reconciliation committee.
[1:27:00]
So like is there any anything we need to
know about that
[1:27:05]
» logo you're asking about? Is that
>> I don't know because I mean that could
[1:27:08]
be in the future
>> in the future.
[1:27:11]
» Yeah, it could be a local contest like
there there are opportunities to make it
[1:27:14]
big. Do we have
>> to keep it under the Sula municipal logo
[1:27:20]
or is there an opportunity because I
don't know what I don't know what that
[1:27:23]
conversation is.
>> So I don't know that's the best answer
[1:27:28]
to give you. I don't know and I would
have to ask. Um as far as I understand
[1:27:32]
it um any committee that is under a
municipal umbrella does have to
[1:27:41]
reference the municipality. Um, I'm not
sure to what extent and I will have to
[1:27:47]
ask. It's an answer I just don't have.
>> And you know what? That's cool because I
[1:27:50]
think that'll help clarify the next
couple of year plans, right? Because if
[1:27:55]
we're saying this is the truth and
reconciliation committee, but it's
[1:27:59]
obviously under the municipal then then
it's just saying but we're identifying
[1:28:04]
because I think was it public works that
had the like the train over the silicone
[1:28:10]
bridge like that was kind of associated
with them but I don't know like so it's
[1:28:14]
a good thing just to ask.
[1:28:21]
» So Joan, you're good with a thousand?
Yeah. Yep. I'm like Michelle, I'm pretty
[1:28:26]
confident that there's lots of support
out there for this project. So,
[1:28:30]
» definitely
>> I'm not too
[1:28:32]
» It just that if we have the $1,000, it
gives us the logistics that we're not
[1:28:36]
waiting for money to come in, right? We
we know certain things that we have to
[1:28:41]
pay for, we can do.
>> I like that. I'm confident with that.
[1:28:50]
» All right. So anyway, um back to the
agenda. Number eight, uh we talked about
[1:28:55]
the liability concerns. Uh so that's
done. And then A2 is the cabinet. And
[1:29:03]
the cabinets are okay.
>> The cabinet is purchased. It's sitting
[1:29:07]
in my garage, but when I cracked my rib,
I could not build a cabinet. So So I'm
[1:29:16]
planning when I get back, I'm going to
spend a day go and the library. I'm
[1:29:20]
going to talk to because there's been a
change of management at the library and
[1:29:24]
we were talking to the old management.
So, we'll reconnect with the new
[1:29:27]
management and I'm just going to
actually try to assemble it actually
[1:29:31]
there rather than try to move it in the
middle of the winter. Glass cabinet
[1:29:35]
assembled frozen. So, um just assemble
it there because the um the artifact is
[1:29:43]
in the basement of the library and then
we'll just bring it up and make sure it
[1:29:47]
» it it's in it can stand and be in there.
>> How long is it in the library for?
[1:29:53]
» Hopefully forever. Or if someone wants
to borrow it, we can move it, but
[1:29:58]
hopefully forever with, you know, Yeah.
Get it out there. Get it out of the
[1:30:05]
basement.
[1:30:08]
and she's not
>> great. Thanks.
[1:30:11]
» You did leave.
>> Okay.
[1:30:14]
» She's not in the in the waiting room.
So, um I'm guessing she either lost
[1:30:18]
connectivity or had to leave.
>> Oh,
[1:30:20]
» she sent a note. She's put it in the
note. She had to leave.
[1:30:24]
» Okay.
[1:30:27]
» So, number three, the updated work plan.
Everything seemed to be okay.
[1:30:35]
turn out to be going to class tomorrow.
Like
[1:30:37]
» tomorrow? Yes.
>> There is one thing now [laughter]
[1:30:42]
want to leave Naomi. I'm like I'm sorry.
Now that we have Michelle and Elvis who
[1:30:48]
are a part of it, um was there any ideas
going forward for Blueberry Festival
[1:30:53]
events that you had or you good with
what we're going forward with? So there
[1:30:58]
just to think of in the future, but so
far we have the rocks to action that the
[1:31:03]
TRC but when if there is anything that
you're thinking of in the future that
[1:31:09]
could be considered for the work plan
would be good
[1:31:12]
» and organic offic
[1:31:18]
[laughter]
[1:31:22]
um now I know that here we have like a
creation of traditional protocol calls
[1:31:27]
guide for distribution.
So thoughts what Megan and I kind of
[1:31:32]
brought to our attention is like even in
the work plan there has to be some sort
[1:31:36]
of like milestones or structures you
guys are going to be looking at. So if
[1:31:41]
that create information to be shared
with the general public when you're
[1:31:44]
working with knowledge keepers and
you're working with those who are like
[1:31:48]
having some thoughts that like there is
some exchange of cultural protocol as
[1:31:53]
well as those who aren't culturally um
protocol like there are other ways that
[1:31:58]
you need to be engaging. Um, I do need
to bring to attention that like even
[1:32:03]
though we're indigenous, not everyone is
traditional. They're faith-based as
[1:32:07]
well. And we can't just signify that
both because they are both represented
[1:32:11]
by First Nations people. Um, again, this
also goes into the aspect that we have a
[1:32:18]
lot of people who are non-indigenous
that have knowledge and have had that
[1:32:23]
opportunity to share. So how like this
isn't just about like
[1:32:29]
from our perspective and I I say our
perspective lately this is about a
[1:32:33]
collective perspective going back to
that relationship building that we
[1:32:36]
talked about on page one like community
part relationships and partnerships. Uh
[1:32:41]
true reconciliation comes from healing.
Uh we can point fingers and say they
[1:32:46]
need to heal. However we got to point
the finger back at us. We need to heal.
[1:32:50]
You need to heal. Hey, the reality is
when you're open and you're a lot more
[1:32:54]
self-aware and you have that opportunity
and just like Darlene pointed out, we
[1:32:58]
have an opportunity when people are
potentially could be triggered. We don't
[1:33:03]
know those triggers. So, just having
those safety safety
[1:33:08]
safety nets in place. Um, so when we do
kind of these traditional protocols,
[1:33:13]
even if this kind of moves into next
year, but throughout this year, you're
[1:33:20]
able to build those relationships and
connections with people to see what what
[1:33:24]
that is cuz it's it's protocols just for
even the whole municipality.
[1:33:30]
Like we we know a lot of people here and
you can have those relationships and and
[1:33:36]
you don't want them get blurred like
some are professional and some are
[1:33:38]
personal. So like like how do we work
with each other cuz it is about true
[1:33:43]
reconciliation like working with each
other communicating. So
[1:33:49]
» yeah I don't know what uh um when we
talk traditional and then what you
[1:33:56]
mentioned um is that uh a lot of our
people are not actually traditional.
[1:34:01]
They're traditional Christians. I mean,
they live on the land, but they still
[1:34:06]
practice uh Christianity.
Um, if we look at some of the
[1:34:11]
communities, they have more than one
different kind of church. Sandy Lake has
[1:34:16]
about seven different kinds of churches,
>> you know. They have Roman Catholic, they
[1:34:20]
have Anglican, they have
>> I don't know what else they have,
[1:34:23]
[laughter]
but there's like seven of them, I heard.
[1:34:26]
And um so there might be a whole new
[sighs and gasps]
[1:34:31]
uh wording to I think traditional came
up at one point because u we were
[1:34:38]
talking about honorariums and then we
got into talking about smudging and
[1:34:43]
prayer and tobacco and that kind of
thing. So,
[1:34:48]
um,
if we do honor everything,
[1:34:53]
the diverse spiritual practices, maybe
you could reward at some events because
[1:35:00]
if we have the um um
the unmarked graves and any ceremony
[1:35:06]
that happens there, I'm sure we're going
to end up with uh different types of
[1:35:10]
people who are going to be praying. Um,
look at Bill Morris.
[1:35:16]
» He's a what is he?
>> Reverend.
[1:35:18]
» Reverend. Um, and uh, you know, if he
comes to the event such as this in the
[1:35:24]
future, then he'll be praying in his
way. And there's a lot of other ordained
[1:35:29]
people in the north, right,
>> that go to school and they get their
[1:35:34]
» There are a lot of women.
>> Yes. A lot of women
[1:35:37]
» did that are doing that and they're
becoming spiritual leaders. uh that way.
[1:35:43]
So yeah, we may have to reconsider
learning this. Um
[1:35:48]
» I like that the combining of all the
different spiritual practices. That's a
[1:35:52]
another way of reconciliation, too,
where there's no separation between the
[1:35:55]
way you you have your faith because it
is all
[1:36:00]
it's it's all related, right? It's we're
all
[1:36:04]
[laughter and gasps]
>> just looking for something.
[1:36:07]
» Yeah. So we might want to reconsider
just just that section in the future for
[1:36:13]
discussion
>> and because we'd be also looking would
[1:36:17]
we defer this to next year and the only
reason I'm bringing that up is because
[1:36:22]
the money's accounted for.
>> Yeah,
[1:36:25]
» it does say creation for distribution.
It doesn't say actually distributed
[1:36:31]
» comes over this table. Okay, sounds
good. And it really might take two years
[1:36:36]
to create it.
>> Yeah.
[1:36:38]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah.
[1:36:39]
» Good, good points. Okay.
>> But for now, I guess the word honorarium
[1:36:43]
is in there. So it'll, you know, it'll
uh
[1:36:47]
» they'll be aware part of the
documentation for for council to to to
[1:36:52]
look at and realize that yeah, we've got
to pay on ourarium and uh for tobacco.
[1:36:58]
We might want to spend money on tobacco
under this. So
[1:37:04]
anyway, okay. So we'll leave that for
now. Is that okay?
[1:37:08]
» I'm good.
>> Okay. And then uh the review of the
[1:37:12]
municipal policies through the cultural
lens uh cemetery bylaw
[1:37:19]
that's on hold. on hold as the cemetery
memorialization events uh with the
[1:37:27]
children of um went missing or un or
were buried in armor graves for the
[1:37:35]
zone. Um and bringing the children home
initiative hasn't really started doing
[1:37:41]
that yet. So we're still on hold for
that. So that'll be the updated work
[1:37:49]
plan I guess which will be presented
tomorrow. Okay. And then number four 84.
[1:37:56]
So we'll just move on. Chamber of
Commerce events calendar.
[1:38:02]
Want to Oh, that was Michelle that has
it.
[1:38:06]
» Oh yes. Um
yeah. So, the
[1:38:11]
chamber when I went there, they were
talking about being able to support any
[1:38:16]
events and stuff that are going on by
putting them on our municipal calendar.
[1:38:20]
Um, it's it's pretty easy to just go on
the the site, fill in the information,
[1:38:28]
and it gets put up on the on the
calendar. And the chamber may also um
[1:38:35]
help promote that through uh I think
people sign up for a text and you get
[1:38:40]
all your your events like even bombers
games or whatever that people want to
[1:38:45]
promote out there. Um so if we can put
it through those those channels as well
[1:38:50]
to get it pushed out there and and then
the chamber does stuff on Facebook and
[1:38:55]
other things as well.
>> Nice. So they take on some of that
[1:38:58]
communication for us because that is
good. Yeah, we're we're like we're
[1:39:02]
coming up to some roadblocks and it's
not negative, it's just like how do we
[1:39:06]
work within this? So, that's awesome.
Awesome to hear.
[1:39:09]
» I'll check with um Christine about being
able to do this like and if if if it's
[1:39:15]
with a fee or not. I think it's a fairly
minimal fee, but if um if they would
[1:39:19]
just do that for the community as well.
>> Yeah. If there's a fee, let us know.
[1:39:23]
» Yeah. Yeah. Just for the for the chamber
part of things. Um, otherwise like the
[1:39:28]
the municipal website with the calendar
of events, you can just do that anytime.
[1:39:36]
Well, I'm sure that um
we'd be able to post some things on our
[1:39:42]
Facebook page if we if we prepared them
and stuck them in. Um, so if you did
[1:39:46]
want to advertise something about this
these events that we're talking about,
[1:39:52]
um, I just have to have the information
so I can send it for approval. That's
[1:39:56]
all. Or I have to have directions to
create the information so I can send it
[1:39:59]
for other. That's that's what we've got
going on.
[1:40:02]
» Right. Yeah. One thing I forgot about
that because it's been a while since I
[1:40:05]
was at the chamber meeting. But um one
thing that they're looking to do is to
[1:40:09]
have like a a a QR code, some stickers
or a pamphlet or something that you put
[1:40:13]
in like visitors bags that that'll have
the live calendar of events and and you
[1:40:20]
know even at like the Mayfair Theater
using one of those poster boards to put
[1:40:24]
in you know here's all your January
events, here's all your February events
[1:40:28]
happening in Sulao. They're talking
about life and moments, right? all the
[1:40:31]
little things that people get together
and put on uh because we don't have, you
[1:40:37]
know, movie theater and bowling alleys,
but what we do is we get together and we
[1:40:41]
put on we put on things that that bring
us joy, right? And so, how do you how do
[1:40:45]
how do people coming to the the
community find those? Well, we're going
[1:40:49]
to have them on the calendar. We'll have
it on that QR code that you just scan
[1:40:52]
and and you'll be able to see all the
events. So, that's what they're doing
[1:40:55]
with that.
>> Nice.
[1:40:59]
» Thank you.
Good. Good to know.
[1:41:04]
» Now, before we go too much further,
shouldn't we go back and do a motion for
[1:41:07]
the $1,000? Do we need to actually do
the motion, Megan?
[1:41:11]
» Oh, okay.
>> Yes, please.
[1:41:13]
» Yeah. So, do you want me to do the
motion?
[1:41:16]
» Publication.
So, I make a motion that we allocate
[1:41:21]
$1,000
of the 2026 TRC funding towards the
[1:41:27]
Truth and Reconciliation Gala on
>> April 25th.
[1:41:37]
So, we need a seconder, right?
[1:41:43]
» 1,000,
right?
[1:41:47]
Yeah,
[1:41:51]
he louder
[1:41:57]
moved. Do you second?
[1:42:02]
» All in favor?
[1:42:06]
» Yep.
Okay. $1,000 for the galla. And should
[1:42:12]
we do the public space $1,000 too?
>> No, I think we have lots.
[1:42:18]
» No, that's already been that's already
been done.
[1:42:20]
» Oh, okay. I didn't write it down.
>> That was before you went to council.
[1:42:24]
» Well, the other thing that we should
probably discuss is ticket prices. Are
[1:42:28]
you guys okay with us just once we
figure out I'm meeting with the caterer
[1:42:33]
um at the end of January to come up with
the menu? Then they'll come up with a
[1:42:37]
price. So once they come up with a
price, then we should just figure out
[1:42:41]
how much the tickets are. I think they
should not be a lot.
[1:42:48]
Like I I would say under $20. What do
people think of that?
[1:42:53]
» What again? [laughter]
[1:42:57]
» What I'd like to see cuz I maybe maybe
you already sent it and I didn't. This
[1:43:02]
is just me. Uh, I'd like to see some
kind of like estimates just for all the
[1:43:07]
costs associated. It just it just kind
of helps plan a little better because I
[1:43:11]
know you estimated 10. So, it's like,
oh, okay. And and that might be in that
[1:43:15]
file you sent. I'm just not going to
lie. I have
[1:43:17]
» Well, we won't know.
>> Yeah, we're still waiting for the prices
[1:43:21]
like Michelle has to secure, how much um
Nadia wants to be paid, how much the MC
[1:43:27]
and how much the cater those the big
ticket items. Then the other stuff is
[1:43:32]
smaller.
>> I don't even have an idea of like the
[1:43:35]
ballpark, but I said like we we do we
will be paying you for your time, but I
[1:43:40]
for for Nadia, but I don't know um what
our budget is because I know she's she's
[1:43:45]
worth a lot when you look at her four
pages of her resume. She's worth a lot.
[1:43:50]
» But we should lock it down. we should
try to figure out with her what her at
[1:43:54]
least figure out what her expectation is
because if we're going to go out and
[1:43:57]
secure um like a sponsor for her, we
need to know what we're what it is. So,
[1:44:03]
if we can if you can secure those,
Michelle, the cost of the MC, the cost
[1:44:08]
of the uh keynote speaker, and then I
can secure within the next couple of
[1:44:13]
weeks the cost of the catering, and then
from there,
[1:44:17]
» then we can decide and get our tickets
going. And one thing I do need to
[1:44:22]
mention is that if you are going into
agreements with people
[1:44:26]
» um the only person who has the authority
to sign those is the CIO. So they would
[1:44:29]
need to be brought in.
>> Okay.
[1:44:30]
» Um and Brian would have to be the one to
do that.
[1:44:33]
» So like the agreement has to be brought
in.
[1:44:36]
» Anything that you're binding the
municipality for. Yes. Need to be
[1:44:39]
brought in. Yes.
>> To be discussed first before finalized.
[1:44:43]
» Um you can you can say yes, this is what
we want to do. I have to go take this
[1:44:48]
contract and get it signed. wants the
contract assigned, then you're good. If
[1:44:52]
he does have the authority to say no.
>> Okay. Okay.
[1:44:55]
» Yeah. And I did have a meeting with
Brian about this because I said, "Well,
[1:44:58]
how can we proceed like we're going out
and we're negotiating these things
[1:45:02]
without like do we have to keep going
back and forth?" And he said, "No, you
[1:45:05]
do have the authority to do the
negotiations, but when you get to that
[1:45:09]
final legal contract, you don't have the
authority to sign it. Then you have to
[1:45:13]
just like So, you can say to her, let's
just take a figure. Let's say $2,000.
[1:45:18]
She wants $2,000." you can say, "Okay,
I'm going to go to the municipality and
[1:45:21]
we'll get everything organized." And she
might have a contract like the um Canora
[1:45:26]
District Services Board, like they have
a contract, but they donated it in time.
[1:45:30]
There's no fee. Um but if there was a
fee, Brian would have to be the one that
[1:45:35]
signed that.
>> Okay. One thing is it is um being able
[1:45:39]
to fly her here.
>> That's the That's what I was just about
[1:45:42]
to ask. Is there travel costs
associated, which then falls under PDM
[1:45:46]
or a contract? So, all of this still has
to be done. Yeah, you
[1:45:49]
» just need to have it like itemized.
>> Yeah,
[1:45:51]
» I would suggest so that you you know
>> this is the itemization for what we ask
[1:45:57]
for.
>> Who else would like to be on the
[1:45:59]
subcommittee with me as we discuss like
like what we'd like her to do with that
[1:46:03]
and how that looks and and then we can
finalize how she brings it together and
[1:46:08]
» and a price on that.
>> Have three before we hit quorum.
[1:46:11]
» Right.
>> Once you hit quum, we have to have an
[1:46:13]
official meeting. It has to be streamed
and we have to be there.
[1:46:15]
» Right. Just remind me how many people
are on your committee already.
[1:46:22]
» Well, what we've been doing is we've
just been like we've been making working
[1:46:26]
committees like you guys did the awards,
the three of you and then like over here
[1:46:30]
Michelle and I. So the working committee
is sort of broken down into little
[1:46:35]
subsections. So even though there's six
of us on the working committee, we're
[1:46:39]
not all working on the same thing at one
time and at the same meeting. It's if
[1:46:43]
you're sitting in a room in a meeting
together. So you got that we can only
[1:46:47]
have three at a time, but we can all
work on it. But we can only like if
[1:46:52]
we're going to do the tickets, we could
have three people together and decide.
[1:46:55]
We could have three people like working
on the speaker, but not all together at
[1:47:00]
the same time. Do you understand?
>> Yeah.
[1:47:03]
» Yeah. That leave that contract on the
subcommittee.
[1:47:07]
» I I don't think it needs to come here
unless
[1:47:10]
» Yeah. It's three people. You can only
three people on working on one thing at
[1:47:14]
the same time. The other option you guys
have is in your terms of reference. It
[1:47:18]
does say if you want more frequent
meetings for any specific purpose, we
[1:47:21]
could look at more than you know meeting
before February 17th.
[1:47:26]
» They have an ad hoc.
>> You are kind of at the mercy of when
[1:47:30]
council chambers is available plus when
I'm available. Um
[1:47:37]
because I've got it's it's your end.
I've got a lot going on. Um it it so if
[1:47:43]
you wanted to look at meeting more
often, we could certainly discuss it.
[1:47:47]
» Well, I think we should plan like
towards the end of March like that. We
[1:47:52]
have a meeting the last week in March,
the first week in April, and the second
[1:47:55]
week in April.
>> Yeah.
[1:47:58]
» Last week in March and book them now.
Yeah.
[1:48:01]
» Second week in April.
>> No, first week. So we have three
[1:48:04]
meetings. Last week, first week of
April, first second week of April.
[1:48:08]
» A week for three weeks.
>> Yeah. Yeah. leading up to the event.
[1:48:12]
» And I agree with that because if we have
nominations, we still have to go through
[1:48:15]
it as a committee. Now, which which now
that Megan's brought that up,
[1:48:21]
» did I bring up
>> Are we going to do in camera if we know
[1:48:24]
people's nominations, you don't need
them want to know their nominations
[1:48:27]
beforehand, did
>> I thought that with the awards that
[1:48:31]
» we could go out out of camera? Okay.
Okay. Just just we we would premise it
[1:48:36]
within the meeting, but we'd say like,
>> "Okay, I like that." cuz I'm like cuz
[1:48:40]
Darlene Brent and I talked about that
and we said how many meetings are we
[1:48:43]
going to have to have to go through the
nominations.
[1:48:46]
» All right. So, I'm looking at my
calendar for those couple of weeks. Um
[1:48:50]
I'm going to need a little bit of
flexibility on on what day because the
[1:48:55]
last Tuesday in March I will not be
here. Um so I will need a little bit of
[1:49:01]
flexibility to make these dates happen,
but I will have to check council
[1:49:05]
chambers availability as well cuz
sometimes they're both in advance. Um,
[1:49:09]
» we just want a day every one of those
weeks. Just one day. So, even if they
[1:49:14]
don't coincide with the Tuesday, just I
I like I'm just giving that
[1:49:18]
recommendation. Just a day a time and
then we'll have to just make it work.
[1:49:22]
» Do we think like March 31st? Do you
think that's too late? Like what if we
[1:49:25]
did it brought it up one more week and
give us one more week to like go through
[1:49:29]
the nominations and get the plaques?
Like
[1:49:31]
» I'm with you. I'm with you. That's why I
say like we're
[1:49:34]
» second. We can go mid-Marchch and right
after March break week after.
[1:49:38]
» Yes.
>> Until the event.
[1:49:40]
» Yes.
>> At least have
[1:49:42]
» Doesn't matter how much time you give
people. If they're going to leave it to
[1:49:46]
the last minute
>> and they and they do, right? They'll
[1:49:49]
leave it to the last minute. So if you
give them two weeks, they'll get it in
[1:49:51]
in two weeks. If they give them four
weeks, they'll get it in in four weeks.
[1:49:54]
Right. So I think if we shorten our time
a little bit and make people think
[1:49:59]
faster. Well, I think there's so before
February 1st, you can even ask for the
[1:50:04]
end of February. That gives you 12
months to submit. Gives you time to look
[1:50:07]
them over. Gives you time to vote on who
is going to be. Um, and that way you
[1:50:12]
have enough time to potentially get the
awards personalized.
[1:50:16]
» Will that be enough time to have
everything um written out and advertised
[1:50:21]
like in the papers and on the radio and
all that stuff? Like
[1:50:24]
» paper costs?
>> That gives us five months.
[1:50:27]
» Yeah. If you want to do that, you have
to have budget for it. Um, we can put it
[1:50:32]
on the website. Um, pretty much at the
drop of a hat. Um, I just need it.
[1:50:37]
» We can forward that to our own.
>> I mean, when we send our press release
[1:50:42]
to to the paper, then u I'm thinking
that he can he can come forward and
[1:50:49]
start doing the story on it
>> on the upcoming.
[1:50:52]
» Oh, yeah. I think it as part of a right
as part of a story instead of adding
[1:50:57]
» more information.
>> Yeah.
[1:50:59]
» Right.
>> To nominate some goal here.
[1:51:02]
» Um
yeah.
[1:51:07]
» Yeah. I think that would
>> be Yeah. If we cost Yeah. which could
[1:51:13]
come out of that thousand.
Again, that thousand is there, but
[1:51:17]
whatever is for initial, right?
>> And I'll have to allow Joan to help us
[1:51:22]
add,
>> it will probably cost anywhere from
[1:51:24]
$250.
>> The last time we took out a newspaper ad
[1:51:29]
that was decent size. I believe it was
around $600.
[1:51:33]
» Yeah.
>> Um I'm sure there were smaller ones,
[1:51:37]
» but they're not they're not
insignificant amounts.
[1:51:42]
Um, but I can certainly try and find
what that would be and send it out.
[1:51:49]
» Yeah, this circles back to the Chamber
of Commerce website, Facebook page,
[1:51:54]
being able to kind of like put that out
there immediately. Um, secondly, when we
[1:51:58]
go back to the work plan, I I I'd like
to make the distinction between
[1:52:06]
the municipal website has an update on
what the truth and reconciliation
[1:52:13]
committee's goals are. Doesn't have to
be the work plan of the year, but just
[1:52:18]
say what the committee is for, what was
structured, how it was structured, blah
[1:52:21]
blah blah. Um and then the updates we
could possibly use until something moves
[1:52:27]
a bit more within within municipality
that that commerce is able to be used
[1:52:33]
for all the events so to speak.
>> So for Ryan were talking about the
[1:52:37]
Facebook page um because Brian had
questions about uh maintaining a single
[1:52:43]
voice um who's going to do the updates.
the the list that that Brent gave us was
[1:52:48]
quite involved of when things would be
posted, how they would be posted. I was
[1:52:54]
like, but who's doing this?
>> Um, who in the committee has the time
[1:52:58]
and the want to do it? Um, and I don't
know that he's gotten those answers yet,
[1:53:04]
» which would still be further discussion
because as a volunteer member,
[1:53:08]
» it sometimes it is difficult because my
next question is directly to you, Megan.
[1:53:13]
I need your help with making sure this
letter like has the same voice even with
[1:53:18]
the sponsorship letter. So I can send
you this, but it was Darlene Brent and
[1:53:22]
myself that looked over the nomination.
This one first.
[1:53:26]
» Yeah, the nomination first. But I would
like it to one obviously have the
[1:53:30]
watermark and logo of municipality, but
it was just a subcommittee thing. But we
[1:53:36]
need to be able to have that continuity
cuz it looks and sounds better when it
[1:53:41]
reads better.
>> Absolutely.
[1:53:43]
» Um, so you just want me to go over this
and because I was obviously wondering
[1:53:51]
in in my voice because that's what I
used.
[1:53:53]
» Yes, definitely. And then
>> yeah in your Megan voice said um but
[1:53:59]
then this and I know uh the only thing
is I won't send it to you until I get
[1:54:03]
feedback from Brent and Darlene because
it is part of our subcommittee and then
[1:54:06]
we'll just kind of move forward but it's
just there's anything
[1:54:09]
» got a copy I can start on it. When are
you meeting with your subcommittee?
[1:54:14]
» Darlene,
[laughter]
[1:54:18]
» I do need to I'd like to finish the
nomination by Friday, like finalize that
[1:54:22]
nomination, which would again have
>> Yeah. So, there would be
[1:54:26]
» the proper headings and stuff, but
>> week sometime
[1:54:30]
» if we could get it by like
next week. Yeah,
[1:54:34]
» next week. Okay. Um, these things do
require a signer on them. Who will that
[1:54:40]
be?
>> Will that be Darlene as a member of
[1:54:43]
council or will that be you as the
person who put it together and that I'm
[1:54:47]
assuming is collecting these?
>> Gavin, I'm going to give it to Darlene.
[1:54:50]
» Y [laughter]
[1:54:53]
as your your staff resource.
>> I'd love it if you collected it because
[1:54:57]
then it all goes in. I know Megan's
like, "Come on, Naomi. [laughter]
[1:55:02]
» We just love your organizational
skills." How's that?
[1:55:05]
» You know what I've had?
If you saw the amount of emails that I
[1:55:10]
have that I don't delete, I have I I'm
at like 80% capacity. I have to clean
[1:55:15]
that stuff out. So, don't think I'm
organized,
[1:55:18]
» but I have preferences.
>> But yes, I can I can work on that. I'll
[1:55:23]
work on what you've got here. Um and try
and send you something. What day is
[1:55:27]
today? Today's Tuesday. Got counsel
19s. Got interviews
[1:55:34]
by Monday.
by Friday because I don't think
[1:55:38]
» No, no, next Friday. It wasn't this
Friday. It was next Friday. That way.
[1:55:43]
Yes. That's way That way we still have
opportunity to meet as a committee and
[1:55:47]
if there's any updates we can send to
you. But I wanted to give you at least a
[1:55:50]
template.
>> Well, if I know when your committee is
[1:55:53]
actually meeting, I can try and have an
updated version for your meeting for you
[1:55:58]
to go over and make changes to and that
way there's less to change.
[1:56:01]
» You want to do next Tuesday?
What's your schedule look like?
[1:56:06]
» Maybe Wednesday.
>> Yeah, I think I have a meeting.
[1:56:08]
» Can I get it by Wednesday? Then
>> Wednesday the 28th. Yeah.
[1:56:13]
» Okay.
I will try.
[1:56:17]
» Otherwise, I'll just take your notes.
>> That's okay. That's perfect. Thank you.
[1:56:21]
» Like I said, unfortunately, it is it is
your end and uh that is when we close
[1:56:26]
off all of our pensions and that's my
job. So So I'm busy.
[1:56:34]
And it's actuary season and [laughter]
actuary. I like that.
[1:56:38]
» No, I we I sent an actuarial report.
It's all it's it's the entire
[1:56:43]
municipality sick information and
everything and I have to compile it like
[1:56:48]
it takes so much time because each
individual person. Um January, February
[1:56:53]
are not normally times that I have time.
>> Right. Well, thank you for this.
[1:56:59]
» Um yeah. No, I appreciate that.
>> Okay, so we're done. The uh number eight
[1:57:06]
items for discussion then and number
nine, the work plan and we we've already
[1:57:12]
talked about that. And number 10, the
next meeting date, February 17,
[1:57:19]
unfortunately I'm going to be out of
town. I have uh uh but I mean the
[1:57:25]
meeting could still go on.
I'm meeting on the 17th and 18th in
[1:57:32]
Toronto with the NAN
uh women's initiative. So
[1:57:39]
going to be kind of busy that first day.
>> See if we are quum.
[1:57:44]
» Yeah, as long as I guess everybody's
here, Brentton.
[1:57:47]
» Well, if you guys want to move it, I'm
actually not going to be here that day
[1:57:50]
either.
>> Oh, what day?
[1:57:53]
» Michelle on her own. So, if you guys did
want to move it like say up a week to
[1:57:56]
the 10th, uh, we [clears throat] can do
that.
[1:57:59]
» Yeah, I have nothing on the 10th.
