[0:00] You're on 529, I think. All right. Okay, welcome, everyone. We're glad to have you here today. It's August 20th, and it's in the second. There'll be 530, and we're at the North Campus. So we appreciate everyone coming and being on time. And we're going to try to get through this in an hour, because that's what I like is an hour meeting and out the door. So hopefully, hopefully.
[0:27] and the lights won't go off on the lights that's true we can get out that early so
[0:33] okay so let's start with a row call um Brad can you just start us at the
[0:37] Santa will come all the way around to Jeff? Brad Taylor with academic
[0:41] OS, Platt Nilson also with academic OS, Angie Young and
[0:45] OS, you know Garne here, board member, we're now your ally and board member, Mary
[0:49] Justin board, Nate Scalboard, or Anson board, Crystal Taylor, academic
[0:53] I have a request. Heidi Barley, academic guest. Kelly Maduro, SA. Wendy Long,
[0:58] principal, SA Junior. Tell me all of her principal, SA, M. Lopez.
[1:04] I have to think about that. Don't you ever tell me all of her principal, SA,
[1:09] Sal. Jeff Martian, principal, SA North.
[1:13] And I just have to say for the record, how lovely the library looks, how I walked in and
[1:19] And I thought I was in a different school.
[1:21] I said, hey, wait, wait, it looks great.
[1:25] It's got your emotional?
[1:26] Yeah, I did.
[1:27] I don't tell my cookie.
[1:29] So is this a new librarian in here?
[1:30] Oh, it is.
[1:32] Oh, it looks really great.
[1:33] So tell her him.
[1:35] Thanks so much.
[1:35] It was my page.
[1:36] Oh, oh, OK, then.
[1:40] It was my area.
[1:40] It's a new gender.
[1:42] I said her him.
[1:44] I did say it.
[1:46] Librarians are usually women.
[1:48] but then there are those men and I've had three in my administration. Yeah, there's been three of them.
[1:56] Which is why yesterday is six-graders stopping. Is it Mr. Martin?
[2:00] Who's the man sitting in the right place?
[2:03] You need to get him a shirt, library and library.
[2:06] Well, it looks very nice, so a couple of that for us.
[2:09] Okay, let's start with a board mission from Nell and school mission from Kelly.
[2:14] board mission statement as board members we agree and uphold the following
[2:19] statements of our mission we will govern not manage the school director or
[2:23] employees we will make arts integration the key element of our school and we
[2:29] will maintain a stable and workable financial budget and we will speak as one
[2:33] voice thank you now Kelly the mission of Syracuse Arts Academy is to develop
[2:38] respectful confident citizens in a solid educational environment in rich
[2:43] artistic expression. Okay, thank you. We don't have any public comment, do we?
[2:49] Crystal, anything online, nothing? Okay. Okay. Okay, so we're just going to go
[2:53] right into our report and we'll start with Renee with financial
[2:56] update and Angie's here to help him. Or Angie's here to do it and Renee's here to
[3:01] listen to Angie. What are we doing? We have money. We have money for her. That's right.
[3:08] And the first month of year and the normal one that's way out of whack is pretty
[3:14] It's way, it's like 90% already, the same word every year.
[3:21] So as mentioned in the summary, our budget needs to be amended for fiscal year 27.
[3:27] So those financials you're getting right now aren't accurate as far as percentages of budget.
[3:32] These those have been amended to accurately reflect what the budget should be.
[3:37] So as of right now I'm just working on closing fiscal year 26 so I'm doing all
[3:45] the program accounting, looking at fees, looking at projects, looking at all of
[3:50] those fun things and finalizing numbers for 26. So as soon as that happens
[3:54] you'll see those and then we'll get the budget admitted for 27.
[3:59] And the one I was talking about was the purchase property services you'll
[4:03] notice it's at 157 percent but that's a little high but it's like that every
[4:10] year you should know by now right no one gasped nobody gasped so and then
[4:20] the other thing that's always higher supplies and materials and that's
[4:24] actually pretty good so they haven't put in all their stuff yet huh just hang
[4:30] on. Okay, very good. Thank you. Any questions for them? All right, very good.
[4:39] I gotta go
[4:39] back up. Sorry. Oh, no, I don't. Okay, Kelly, you've got state of the school and you're
[4:47] going to take care of these people. Yeah. Okay, good. First, I want to tell you about these
[4:53] amazing folks. For the bottom, when my heart, I believe there is no one better. They're doing
[5:00] such a fantastic job. They all work really well together. Our three elementary
[5:06] principals have a PLC going and that's been so fun to see. So Tammy is our newest
[5:13] addition. You want to give us a little rest? Yeah, tell us about you.
[5:18] Sure. I just retired from Davis School District in July. I haven't got my first
[5:28] Have you gotten a check for much yet?
[5:30] Oh, yeah.
[5:31] Okay, then.
[5:32] Oh, then you'll see.
[5:34] So you'll see how that feels in a minute.
[5:36] Yeah.
[5:37] Michelle, Wendy, Jeff, me, Callie, yes.
[5:43] I started my education career as an English teacher.
[5:48] Hey, you're here.
[5:49] I taught for one year in the Jordan School District,
[5:52] and then I moved to Davis and I was a sunset junior high for 24 years and then I
[5:58] went to Northridge, high for two years and then I got into admin and I spent two
[6:04] years at South Davis, two years at Boundful Junior and then or Boundful High
[6:07] School and then I ended up back at sunset junior for the last four years.
[6:11] That's the principal note. Just in case you didn't have enough. Right there.
[6:16] It's been fun, so I've never done elementary, but these guys and all the teachers and my
[6:22] assistant, everybody's been so helpful and my eyes have been opened and I've already
[6:27] gotten lots of hugs, so we've been pleased to be in elementary, it's nice, yeah, would
[6:32] they like you no matter what?
[6:33] Yeah, they like you.
[6:34] The junior high, not so much.
[6:36] Yeah, yeah.
[6:37] I've learned a lot of my vocabulary has increased a lot though, I was just telling Wendy,
[6:41] I have to make sure I'm elementary appropriate.
[6:47] And then Jeff Michele and Wendy, will you just share just a little bit about your experience
[6:54] so far, you know, and another quick highlight from this year already?
[7:01] Yep.
[7:03] Jeff Hartchent, here at the North Campus, it's been a pretty good start.
[7:09] Kids are just really excited to be back.
[7:11] I think the kid of yesterday, it was yesterday we were walking through the hall, and as Kellyn
[7:19] air there, she leans down to a little third grader and says, so school has started.
[7:25] Are you excited that school has started, or are you, you know, sad the summer is over?
[7:31] And I think his comment was, I really sad the summer is over, but at least I have a great
[7:36] teacher.
[7:38] And that's kind of, I've heard that over and over.
[7:42] I had a dad who came to me a few days ago and said he'd been up all night just worrying
[7:49] for his kiddo and he was just so, he's, they've got some things and he's worried.
[7:57] And he came to me, we met again yesterday, after two days and he just said, this teacher
[8:03] is making me feel so much more calm.
[8:06] But to be the kids that that teacher said, I asked my kid over the very end.
[8:10] The very end of my son said, 10 out of 10 in the first two days.
[8:14] And now, as me as a dad, this teacher is making me feel so much more calm.
[8:19] That's a funny conversation.
[8:25] It's been a great start.
[8:28] I'm just happy that all of my teachers wanted to come back, but we were excited to have
[8:32] this building.
[8:33] We got five new ones this year.
[8:36] and they're so enthusiastic to be there.
[8:39] Being now that the car pulled with kids in the morning,
[8:41] I've been trying to help one so we're trying
[8:43] and bring them into my office and get a little
[8:46] 3D printed drag into keeping their pocket
[8:48] and making sure we feel good about being in school.
[8:50] I had one white crying in this morning
[8:52] and I asked seeing if he wanted to come in
[8:54] and his mom said, oh no, he's crying because he's so happy
[8:57] to be back at school because he's the first grader.
[9:01] So then you started crying.
[9:10] And I'm thrilled about what's happening at our Junior High School.
[9:14] It is so fun to see our culinary arts program come away.
[9:19] A lot of the deliveries have taken place.
[9:22] The floor is shining.
[9:23] The teachers bright.
[9:25] We stole her from University of Texas and she is thrilled to be among us.
[9:32] She's one of our own grown here at Clearfield Kids,
[9:38] and she just thrilled about the opportunity.
[9:42] We've grabbed an industry partner.
[9:45] Partner from industry and he's our brand new technical
[9:52] maintenance, all the things that's happening
[9:55] in his old classroom.
[9:57] Some of the things are delivering.
[9:58] We've got tools.
[9:59] We have a waser and a laser that is on its way and it's phenomenal what's happening and our health sciences program is going.
[10:10] Our teacher Sir Reed is running that and it's so fun to see our new stuff coming. The parents are invited.
[10:19] The kids are happy and our enrollment is growing.
[10:24] So out of the junior highs in the area a lot of things have gone down. We have
[10:29] increased where the only ones in the area. So that's good. That's kind of makes
[10:34] sense. Happy kids, happy parents. We have discovered a lot of great things
[10:39] being out of parking lot. I know what it's really good with. Come on in! I think
[10:46] when everybody's happy it makes a big difference. Working with the people around
[10:50] us it's not all perfect but as the road goes it's a little bumpy especially as
[10:58] you turn the corner to go on to the straightaway from the elementary but it
[11:03] is going to be fine in the end. Very good. Good. Any questions for many of you or
[11:09] statements you want to make to them so you know? No I'm I'm just glad that you know
[11:15] Circus City worked with us to get most of the roads and everything done. Yes they
[11:19] worked so hard. I was happy for us as a school that we were like, okay, it's
[11:25] going to be better traffic than what we were anticipating. Yes, yes. And on day
[11:30] three, I see a function much more smoothly, even when trucks coming in and out are
[11:37] still happening in crazy times, but it's just good. Very good. When I was at the
[11:44] high school, I was there quite a while mainly seniors I taught, and I would say
[11:49] to them on the first day. Does anyone have an upset stomach besides me? And they'd be like,
[11:53] you are too. You said, yeah, I'm as scared as you are. But they kids don't realize that teachers
[12:00] are just as anxious. And unfortunately, you had a parent that anxious. That's awful for you.
[12:07] But it is fun, isn't it? The first day, they all look so great. It's the best clothes. It's the best
[12:13] that way they look that day and I mean it's just fun to have them back so good. I'm glad
[12:19] it was nice and smooth. Yeah, good. Okay. And I'll do my last two things and then we'll
[12:27] Excuse our amazing principals here. She's going to tell you you can go. That's what she's going to say.
[12:35] Or you can stay.
[12:39] Enrollment, I always share enrollment. So our enrollment at our total enrollment is 2155 right now.
[12:47] North Campus at 684, analog at 504, south at 474, and the junior high at 493.
[12:59] And the interesting thing in Wendy has already shared this is that we made about an 18% growth last year, which was really crazy.
[13:10] and we've made another 8% growth this year when enrollment is declining in our
[13:20] surrounding schools. So that's been pretty awesome. My very favorite part of
[13:26] the week because I'm doing crossing our duty on in the mornings on kind of over
[13:33] paid for that, aren't you? She's doing it because I was talking toward this
[13:37] Well, she's talking to me every day, and she's talking to me anyway.
[13:41] We got a lot going on, so.
[13:43] However you want to spend your time, right?
[13:46] So, it gives me a chance to talk to the kids as they cross.
[13:52] And I've been saying, best part of your day, what can be better,
[13:58] that kind of thing, and the construction workers
[14:02] stopped me today after the cement workers stopped me today.
[14:06] and they were, I guess, just laughing.
[14:10] Anyway, the positivity coming out of all of the kids,
[14:14] like, you know, one kid looked like he,
[14:18] he was hard to roll on bed.
[14:20] And I said, I didn't want to support it.
[14:22] You said, I'm okay, how are you doing?
[14:24] I said, I'm pretty good.
[14:25] I said, I, you know, we're excited to get school today
[14:29] and you said, I know I don't look like it,
[14:31] but I got a pretty good schedule this year.
[14:33] I still pretty good at school.
[14:35] I thought, okay, is that good?
[14:37] I don't know what a bad day looks like.
[14:39] Just he looked like he literally just got out.
[14:42] But all the kids have just been, and most of them
[14:46] will say, favorite class, least favorite.
[14:49] Maybe we'll get better.
[14:50] And all of them can tell me their favorite class
[14:53] and a few can tell me what their least favorite.
[14:57] But most of them are like,
[15:00] I don't really have a class I don't like. So it's been fun. All the elementary kids keep me apprised of what's happening with their bike because they're still walking. So I am tracking bike, you know, activity on this. There's two little sisters. And anyway, they tell they keep me up to date every day on their bike. So, and, yeah, and they were all their bike on day one. They walked over. But it's just been fun to see kids that are happy and love to be there in the midst of a
[15:29] little bit of chaos with the traffic we've got some work to do but even though
[15:38] you've never known like that's what one of the cement workers today said okay
[15:43] I got to tell you if anybody had a he said if they had a overhead camera and
[15:47] watch that they would never know all this was going on it's sort of so shocked
[15:51] that they all just so happy to be there so anyway that's been my favorite thing
[15:57] is to see that. In the midst of chaos, joy comes out of our kids that are happy to be there.
[16:02] So, that was great. And my last thing is an update on construction. And you two correct
[16:10] me if I miss anything or give credit to anything that's not quite right. So, our turf field
[16:17] was in and our fence, our six-foot fence that is going around, is almost finished. They
[16:29] told me today that it was supposed to be done today, but I actually had them take out
[16:34] a couple panels because they kind of cut off our walkway. So I'm like, until we get that
[16:40] out of the way and they were fantastic. And Mike Butler has been absolutely amazing.
[16:48] So that was good. We obviously have our parking lot in, and today they were pouring the cement floor for the new gym.
[17:01] I mean, it's been pretty fast and curious. Mike has done a really good job of trying to restore, at least our baseball field, because we had a little
[17:13] debacle with power going off and then we weren't watered for two weeks and so
[17:18] that was a little bit of a struggle but the baseball team was out there for
[17:22] tryouts today so that was great. We've got bike racks set up in two separate
[17:27] locations and pretty good walking routes for the kids. The elementary kids that
[17:34] are playing at recess haven't missed one beat with construction and the crews have
[17:41] have been amazing to, you know, move equipment
[17:45] before school starts.
[17:47] And so today we had a tiny debacle.
[17:50] The deal was no construction vehicles
[17:53] during drop-off or pickup.
[17:55] Well, today the cement crew started about 45 minutes late.
[17:59] And so they ended right at the end of drop-off.
[18:02] So it was a little, you know,
[18:04] we had about 14 cement trucks coming in and out.
[18:07] They were great.
[18:08] We handled it really well.
[18:09] everyone's very patient and kind and so then jovian says to me the reason that I told you that
[18:18] is because he came to me after and said I know that we made a deal and and we had a debacle today
[18:26] so I have it resolved our next poor will start at midnight and be done by 5 a.m. and I'm like
[18:35] Yeah, well, I definitely don't have to be on that symmetric.
[18:38] And on that campus, can I have to be there all day?
[18:42] And I said, really, I mean, we did OK.
[18:46] And he's like, no, that wasn't the deal.
[18:50] And we're going to make it right.
[18:51] So I've already talked to all of them.
[18:53] Our next four will be midnight to 5 a.m.
[18:55] and we will be out of your hair.
[18:57] That's the kind of service that we are in support
[19:01] that we are getting.
[19:04] Yeah, so anyway, I just wanted to share that and is there any construction piece I've missed?
[19:10] We are working at traffic every minute of every day and we're going to get it down.
[19:17] We're going to get it right, but from our perspective traffic has been amazing.
[19:25] But because we blocked the roundabout for about 20 minutes, we got some folks that are a little uptight.
[19:31] Is it just at the Antelope that's you have it so south it's okay this year?
[19:38] You've got to figure it out more people, so we've done a couple of adjustments the last few days
[19:42] But the city hasn't stopped you. Yeah
[19:47] 13 minutes to pull in and drop up. Oh, I'd be mad. I was like
[19:52] No, I want a five minute. Come early that and drop them early. It's like, no, I'm not getting involved in a 13-minute wait.
[20:00] Pick up, yeah, I guess pick up.
[20:02] That's even typical for the first crisis.
[20:05] And I'm going to have a bind.
[20:07] Both our schools out in 30.
[20:09] We've timed it.
[20:10] What's happening?
[20:11] NC parking lots, and I have visual proof.
[20:14] You know, it's kind of my experience.
[20:16] It's okay.
[20:17] It's okay.
[20:18] It's okay.
[20:19] If the parents don't mind you, it all works.
[20:22] You know?
[20:23] So.
[20:24] And I have run into parents at both the North and South campus.
[20:28] us. One of our dads was a walker at the South Campus and I said, how's your day going?
[20:34] And he said, ask him and the kids said, best day ever. And I said, does he say that every
[20:40] day? And he said, every day since school started. And I just, anyway,
[20:48] I have to keep reminding
[20:48] myself, you know, when I'm trying to solve a traffic problem, that we get that back.
[20:53] You have some parents dropping them off over at Costco and having them back.
[20:57] I figured you guys just to get out of there.
[21:01] Don't love how old I am.
[21:02] Get your hot diamonds first.
[21:05] It works out great.
[21:07] You need some appliance as an a new TV while you're at it.
[21:11] Costco's half the same.
[21:13] Kelly, you know, we heard that one school had, you know, the South has fine new teachers, other schools.
[21:18] Are we doing okay?
[21:20] We're actually doing fantastic.
[21:23] Our teacher retention, I tracked it for five years in my last position, and it was pretty
[21:32] typical nationwide.
[21:33] It was about 48% over five years was teacher retention right now, because it's hard.
[21:39] And our teacher retention rate, it runs over the last three years anywhere between like 78 and 32%.
[21:51] And the percentage that leaves, like this year, we lost a couple of sped positions.
[21:57] But then we gained a couple of sped positions.
[22:01] We lost resource, but gained special programs.
[22:04] We have people that we're moving, having babies, you know, a couple that are just moving
[22:10] on to other things, but I feel like everyone's were growth.
[22:16] You have one retiree, but we're going to lose them.
[22:19] And you've got how many new with growth?
[22:22] Five.
[22:23] A teacher?
[22:24] There's one teacher, four, four, four, four, four.
[22:28] And you've only got six kindergartners.
[22:31] Only six.
[22:31] Only six.
[22:33] That's great, good for you, of course.
[22:37] We have a hundred, eight hundred badgers and a hundred and 14 first graders, so that's
[22:43] 44%.
[22:43] And last year, you just keep dragging them with you, it's okay, we need the six graders
[22:47] eventually.
[22:48] And with Michelle, I want to say that's pretty phenomenal because you've got the school district
[22:52] put in that brand new element tree, at least what's in the flowers today, it's the first
[22:58] day.
[22:59] Oh, that's really amazing.
[23:01] Michelle is a very, very, very good neighbor.
[23:04] They asked for her SNAP plan, which is the safety school access plan.
[23:08] And you used it for theirs.
[23:10] And she didn't even SNAP.
[23:12] Sure, I'm asking them.
[23:13] They don't know it yet.
[23:17] But yeah, it's been great.
[23:19] And Jeff, how many new teachers do you have?
[23:26] Is that your new library?
[23:28] No five.
[23:29] Very, no.
[23:29] Yeah. Forty-five is just perfect. You know, it just is. You know, he'd get a little bit
[23:36] more and it's like, oh, that's too much training. When do you get to hire two actually and
[23:43] so did T.A. We had T.A.s that worked with us that got their bachelor's degree and or their
[23:52] teaching license and we had three of them that took our teacher positions. So that's
[23:59] That's another, like, that's a big tip.
[24:01] Grow your own, that's awesome.
[24:03] Grow your own.
[24:04] So they were so excited when these T.A.
[24:08] said somebody said, well, are you excited?
[24:10] I know you've been here for several years, but today's
[24:13] your first day as a teacher.
[24:14] He said, I know when I can't believe it,
[24:16] it doesn't seem real to me.
[24:19] It's for that fun.
[24:20] It was so fun.
[24:22] That first day for a teacher, it's pretty overwhelming.
[24:27] So it was really good and Tammy's new kindergarten teacher was a kindergarten TA there, then had
[24:36] TA along the way and other places was a self-finished or degree and then took our kindergarten
[24:42] opening.
[24:43] Great.
[24:44] Good, good.
[24:45] I saw in the standard examiner they had a thing in Northern Utah as a fast and the fast
[24:52] music instructor in Northern Utah was Thomas Saunders.
[24:56] Surprise!
[24:59] That's fantastic.
[25:00] He's our fire teacher.
[25:03] Yeah, right.
[25:03] We're asking about which test teacher it was best.
[25:05] We're not surprised about Thomas at all.
[25:08] He's amazing.
[25:09] Yeah.
[25:10] Yeah, so anyway.
[25:12] All right.
[25:14] That's good.
[25:14] That's good.
[25:16] Okay.
[25:17] So, yeah.
[25:18] Thanks for coming.
[25:19] Yes nice to have you here Tammy with us. So yeah, that's right. Okay. All right. Okay, bye
[25:30] Wendy you got you got everything in the culinary when I was there. There was no stoves. There's no everything's there now
[25:39] Tallin good
[25:42] Good. Yeah, okay. Yeah small things
[25:49] wouldn't fit in the opening even they gave her the dimensions and the opening was slightly smaller and it was
[25:55] going to they said well we'll fix the cabinet but it's going to be a minute and strike before back to school
[26:00] night she put had somebody help her load the dishwasher in her truck drove it to
[26:07] lows because that's where she bought it in salt lake because they had the same dishwasher in a slightly
[26:12] smaller model that would fit drove it to salt lake exchanged it brought the new dishwasher back and then
[26:18] and said to Mike, OK, I got it.
[26:20] Get it in.
[26:20] Parents will be here in about an hour and 15 minutes.
[26:24] And they did.
[26:25] They put it in.
[26:26] It's all about how we look, right?
[26:29] That's a good question.
[26:30] She was actually parents.
[26:31] Yeah, well, good.
[26:33] The culinary room was really the talk of the town,
[26:36] but none of our.
[26:37] They don't know what the others are about yet.
[26:40] Just wait.
[26:41] So anyway, so that's that's that.
[26:44] OK, thank you.
[26:46] I was going to say to you, Angie,
[26:47] you to the PTIF is up a little bit, so well done. I noticed that. So I've got a piece
[26:57] of this and so is that 360 advantage, you see that on your. Okay, so this is a program
[27:06] as company that my oldest son, he's an entrepreneur and he's a salesperson and he's usually in software
[27:15] But he went this way and he was just telling me about it and blah blah blah and I was half listening to him
[27:21] You know, and he was all excited about it
[27:23] And then he said something he said and then the people who take this then the money that you get on blah blah
[27:29] And we pay him to do that then it will pay for a whole life insurance policy and I went oh wait a minute
[27:35] So let's talk about this because we want anything we can get a hold of in the schools to hang on to teachers is great
[27:43] You know, so because it was my son and not that I don't trust him, but you know, you know, he's just a kid.
[27:53] So I introduced him to Gabe and Gabe and Matt sat down with him. Gabe was really interested in it.
[28:02] And so they sat down with him and listened to it.
[28:06] and academic west has signed up with this program
[28:11] and then she'll then signed up with one west as well.
[28:13] So I think it's had due diligence really well
[28:17] and trust it and if all of us, we don't like it Kelly,
[28:20] we just get out of that year, right?
[28:22] We just say, never mind.
[28:24] So I'm just gonna, you've got this here
[28:26] and you know, you can read what you want
[28:28] but basically this way it has three parts
[28:30] and I'm just sharing with the board
[28:32] and Kelly's going to have to be the one to run it and to decide yes or no
[28:38] basically but we don't have to vote on it for a board but I think at some point
[28:43] that we know that that's something that we're offering. So it's got three parts
[28:47] to one is the healthy part and so they have they have that and if they'll do
[28:52] that and it's it's biometrics is how they evaluate and but anyway so they if
[29:01] they do that, then they're paid.
[29:04] That employee is paid $125, 148.
[29:08] I can't remember.
[29:09] Some hundreds, something.
[29:10] And then that can go in their pocket
[29:12] or they can buy the whole life insurance,
[29:16] which would be the same amount for them.
[29:19] They can have cancer today and sign up for the whole life,
[29:23] and there's nothing there.
[29:25] You don't have to go get a doctor's note or anything.
[29:28] So be nice for employees if they're-
[29:31] it just be those of benefit. Yeah well there's just there's 30 hours and then and then 25,000
[29:37] dollar pay so it's really going to be your teachers you know. Okay. I'm just maybe yeah maybe.
[29:43] I know. We've got a lot of part most most the rest of like the fair professionals are part
[29:47] climbing out and that wouldn't all much but yeah. Yeah. So I'm just wondering. Yeah that's great.
[29:53] Yeah and it won't come to the board because we don't have a paycheck you guys so we can't get it
[30:00] So it has the health part and then it has the whole life that's portable, so they can take it if they leave, but then they have to pay for it themselves rather than the company paying. And then, and then there's one other part which gave really like this part. Matt liked a lot of it. I talked to him too about it, but gave like the fact that then they pay the employer.
[30:29] about $1,200 a year per person who signs up for it.
[30:33] And that's where I was like,
[30:35] I don't know about this and Gabe and Matt
[30:38] kind of went through it and Gabe told me
[30:43] that there's some things with taxes that you can do
[30:46] and he was telling me 25 AA,
[30:47] but blah, blah, blah, blah.
[30:48] It's like, so you like it and you're signing up for it,
[30:51] you're doing it, yeah, okay.
[30:52] You know, that's really what we needed to know.
[30:55] So that's really great.
[30:57] So that could end up they have to start you have to have 30 employees at least in order to do it
[31:03] But you you go 30 times the 1200 it could be is could be more than that depending on the salaries of the people who sign up
[31:13] But I said to Kelly that's money that you could then I mean that could pay for your
[31:19] For your supplies for schools. I mean for the teachers back to school
[31:24] you know supplies and you could just give it right back to those teachers which
[31:28] is be great or you can give it to the board and we'll put an MPTI up because we
[31:33] like it in there too but it could be a couple hundred thousand dollars for
[31:36] them each year and they'll pay that each year so those are the three main things
[31:41] there there's lots of words in there and so you can read it or whatever but I just
[31:45] wanted the board to know and understand that that's something that you know
[31:51] that I think that with academic
[31:53] arrest saying it's good that
[31:55] something that we could do here
[31:57] and I met with Kelly and I don't know
[31:59] Kelly were you like
[32:01] dazzled by all that the papers I
[32:03] gave you to read? It's a lot.
[32:05] It's a lot. And like you said
[32:07] you don't understand all the
[32:09] tax laws neither do I. No.
[32:11] We don't have to. I covered that. But I
[32:13] called Gabe and talked with Gabe.
[32:15] And he understands all the
[32:17] tax laws. And so you kind of said
[32:20] some of it comes back and credits, some of it comes back in safe, like in savings of
[32:28] expenditures more than like cash dollar amount but he he explains some things to me and he said
[32:36] yeah he thought it looked good and I don't we don't offer anything like that so we'll put it out there
[32:45] We did something like this in my last job and not to this extent like we had, you know,
[32:53] we had opportunities to earn like credits and pullings and things to anyway get discounts
[32:59] or something but, um, and yeah, so we're going to put it out there and the requirement is
[33:08] that 30 participants and so we're just going to educate people and one of the things that
[33:17] Mary brought up was that you know we we want to be able to have when I worked at the
[33:25] bank we used to call them vehicles products we we want to have products that are our employees
[33:32] have access to, you know, give them those options for life insurance and for wellness and, you know,
[33:43] wellness checks and those kinds of things. And to my knowledge, we don't have that right now.
[33:49] So, we're going to put it out there and see what happens.
[33:51] Yeah. So, academic OS is waiting until November is when they open up for insurance and things,
[33:58] and we're in the middle of it now and so that's why I said to Kelly, I think we're going to do it.
[34:04] They're getting used to all the things they have to sign up for and they're insurance and then do all their blood and, you know, all those kinds of things.
[34:14] And this shouldn't take long. I mean, it's just an introduction and then go from there.
[34:19] But so so just know that that's I think I mean so many of our teachers are healthy and Kelly's actually looking at a room at
[34:30] Antelope that she thinks she can bring in some equipment to set it up for teachers to be an exercise room like
[34:37] Academic a West House, but not as big and not as many.
[34:41] Actually, we're about the idea because the read was so impressed with the gym there.
[34:45] Yeah, yeah, but you're talking about you're just won't be like that, but how Brad and his big finance
[34:51] brain just talks about the gym. But Kelly, there's money this first year could buy you the equipment for
[34:57] that room if you wanted to. And that's that's a great benefit to the teachers. It looks like a win-win
[35:05] and yeah, they're healthy anyway. It's like an opt-in for the employees on a wellness program.
[35:11] Yeah, so they're healthy anyway and so for them to have that biometric and have to do that
[35:17] I don't know once a month or a recorder or something. I don't know when it is but and to have
[35:21] that and with that you're going to give me a whole life insurance policy. Okay. I'll keep looking
[35:27] in my phone on that app. That's fine. Yeah, so anyway, I just wanted you to know that that's something
[35:37] that we're going to be that we'll look at and I don't know if Kelly signs or if they
[35:43] want board to sign but she'll be running it and so just you know just realize that
[35:50] it's hers but I don't think it's going to take much. Gabe did check to make sure that
[35:55] helps side that does our payroll and all of that. They're fine with it. There's no extra
[35:59] charges nothing there. It's just going to be smooth to switch it over. Gabe wasn't concerned
[36:04] about that at all, so that was a question I had for him too, so because I don't want
[36:08] to answer anything to do it. Questions? Anybody? Okay. All right. There you go.
[36:18] Okay, so
[36:19] consent items. We have board meeting minutes from last time June 17th and July 22nd, so we've got
[36:29] two months there.
[36:33] What do you want on that? Do you want a motion? Okay, motion to approve.
[36:38] I make a motion with the proof that you can send on to June 17th for a meeting.
[36:43] It's a little session in July 22nd for a meeting. Okay, from Renee in a second.
[36:48] Neil? Neil? Okay, everybody yes? Yes? Okay, there we go. All right.
[36:56] We have some voting
[36:58] items. This is... Plot, I don't know. Probably in most of this is you. Do you think?
[37:05] Probably just the policy limits for me.
[37:07] Just the policies? Okay. Okay. So Kelly, math purchase. Here we go.
[37:14] Yes. This will get our animal campus. Subscription was up. This will get them aligned with our North and South
[37:27] campuses two years so in two years we will re-adopt math for all three
[37:33] elementary and then they will be on and then two years after that we will do
[37:39] ELA English language arts so it puts us in a really good position that they
[37:46] get the curriculum they need he gave us a little bit more of a deal he bought
[37:51] about an extra two thousand dollars because we were trying to see if we should
[37:55] do one year or two years anyway we saved about $12,000 doing two years and he
[38:01] gave us and he gave us a little more incentive hoping that in two years we'll
[38:06] keep signing up and we and because we just bought them for north so I felt like
[38:12] it was really good they need the curriculum and I love the cycle of about you
[38:19] know we've got two years of math and we look at that and then two years after
[38:24] out we look at ELA again. Any questions? That was one thing that we ask her to do is
[38:32] to get all of that aligned so we're buying math and then we're done and then
[38:36] we're buying that. Everyone talks the same language now. Yes and now the renewals
[38:43] will all be on the other side. Which we save money because we're buying all at one
[38:47] time. It will be pricey, but Mary's right. Or you buy the more you say. Yeah. So mine
[38:53] it tell us free. Yeah, exactly. Oh, I don't think it does that. That's infinity, isn't
[38:59] it? What is the truck color free? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So well done, Kelly. Thanks for
[39:07] thinking that through and getting us to where we wanted to be. So, okay, good. And then
[39:13] We've had a goal of like one this and click gather with our campuses for a lot of years,
[39:18] Mary.
[39:19] Yeah.
[39:20] Curriculum.
[39:21] Brink them together.
[39:21] That's another step of that.
[39:23] Yeah, it's great.
[39:24] And seeing all the principles here together and seeing that, it's like.
[39:27] Mm-hmm.
[39:28] All of them will be trained the same and they got the template.
[39:30] We haven't had that.
[39:31] It's just perfect.
[39:32] I think I'll smile on my face.
[39:34] Big smile.
[39:36] So thank you.
[39:36] The teachers all seemed happy when we did our back to school and they could all talk about,
[39:41] You know, we did a C.D.L.A. training and some were even asking on the breaks about math and at different schools, you know, and not just in their school group.
[39:53] So that to me was like, that's a big payday.
[39:57] Yeah, the conversations are totally different now with their professional center, the PLC's, that's, that'll be great.
[40:04] So well done.
[40:05] Well done.
[40:05] Okay, take it to the retention wall or
[40:12] the landscape or whatever you want to call it.
[40:15] Okay, we talked about this, I think, a couple of board meetings ago.
[40:21] At the south campus, the fence that is on the south side of the turf is eroding.
[40:33] And they thought that maybe they could just put some rock there, but it's eroding and you can see the cement that is holding in those fence poles.
[40:46] And if the fence poles come down, the neighborhood comes in to our, you know.
[40:52] So, um, we, Kirk worked really hard, we've got a couple of beds, and, and I think it's
[41:00] something we probably need to get done sooner rather than later.
[41:03] If the fence comes down, it's going to cost us a lot more money.
[41:07] Any questions about that?
[41:09] That was the, that was like 30 grand or something like that one, right?
[41:13] 295, yeah.
[41:14] Buy it.
[41:15] Yeah.
[41:16] You were right.
[41:17] Yeah.
[41:17] Just a little bit.
[41:18] Just flip the bandaid off and come.
[41:23] Okay, questions on the landscape? Okay. All right.
[41:28] Bleachers. Bleachers. Yeah, you can see our bleacher purchase. That's for our new gem.
[41:35] That does one side and we have a space for a smaller set of bleachers on the other side.
[41:43] if if we need those and Kirk again give a little ones on the end too can you
[41:51] you can do three sides of it if we ever need to yeah yeah we really could
[41:55] that's fine can you take what what it's the best Asian okay it'll have what
[42:01] they'll have five rows so it does not look like you've got so you've got room on the
[42:07] other side for another couple hundred or another hundred so in the end if we need
[42:10] and are you taking some of the bleachers from the old gym over there or not
[42:15] right now so we were lucky that maybe not meeting new bleachers and moving
[42:20] those over but the cost of moving them is yeah it's almost well then don't touch
[42:29] them people can fit in and said well we propose that let's figure out what's
[42:40] Um, so well this will do it'll work this will start a work. Yep. So okay, um, and bleachers are not cheap, but that's not
[42:51] needed. Yeah, they'll be a lot easier. Yeah, they'll be a lot easier. They're not high school. Makes a difference.
[43:01] Okay, we're last one.
[43:04] Our mail charge increase, we do to our deficit in our state meeting.
[43:13] The state can come in and require you to increase the cost of your meals.
[43:22] They didn't, they haven't come in to do that yet.
[43:26] that, they just foremorded us that you may be required to do that. But in talking with
[43:32] our, our mountains and our finance and several other of the food service places, we thought
[43:40] that increasing both breakfast and lunch by a dime would be, and I did the cost over the
[43:49] year, and it's really even if you bought for 180 days, it's not too bad. The other thing
[43:58] that we did, we hadn't increased our adult mail prices. This was on me, I did not realize
[44:04] we had adult mail prices, so I'm learning all the things about selling. So we did, we
[44:10] didn't increase it last time. So we increased our school lunch price from $4 to $5
[44:19] And I know that's a huge, that's a 25% increase, but according to our school lunch kitchen manager lead, we have not increased the cost of school lunch as long as she's been here for adults.
[44:35] And so that's what we, and the cost of that meal needs to be covered by the adult because no adult meals are subsidized.
[44:48] So everyone have a question about that?
[44:50] It's a really good lunch.
[44:52] It really is.
[44:53] It's a lot better than the hot dog and drink.
[44:55] Yes.
[44:56] And it's not that only possible.
[44:58] And $5.
[45:00] It's not very nice. I don't know. And very quickly while we're talking about school lunch, we did do an RFP. And in looking at it, they have us in a deficit by the end, even if we go with the food management system right now. We have made some significant progress in meal costs and increasing rebates. We're working with the state. We're working with the co-op. We're working with Nicholas.
[45:31] And we even have a consultant that has given us a little bit of support that does, you know, food management.
[45:39] And so we are going to try to see what we can get it down to this year.
[45:46] The other thing after talking with Gabe and looking at the RFP submissions.
[45:52] their plans are always to take the summer for their training and their
[45:58] rollover. It would be very disruptive to what we're doing to take a 60-day
[46:05] transition to go to a whole new system and we just felt like that would be
[46:13] cleaner. Gabe and I have talked I'll keep an eye on the budget and if we are
[46:18] making a significant enough impact with what we're doing. We will have everything ready because now
[46:28] we know what we have to do and we'll have all the documents ready and Gabe will submit for the RFP
[46:35] for next fall the day it opens which will probably be March. So Gabe felt good about that. I feel good
[46:45] about that plus some learning about school lunch so we'll see my lunch managers have been
[46:52] absolutely phenomenal they're working together and once we've told all of our school lunch
[47:00] personnel what the deficit was it was it was it was just almost like a like the team rallied
[47:08] so I think I think we're going to be better.
[47:11] If I'm standing on the corner with the Woolworth for food sign, you all know it didn't work well.
[47:17] And when are these fee increases going into effect?
[47:21] Immediately. We did have an issue with the Spire.
[47:25] So it didn't pick up the change because the first two days a Spire wasn't working for us.
[47:31] So all the students were charged last year's prices.
[47:34] And they were worried about how we were going to do that. And they said we're not.
[47:38] We're not going to go back.
[47:39] Right, we're not.
[47:40] We're going to the store.
[47:41] So today it went into a fact, but we sent all the information with school lunch out
[47:48] to families.
[47:49] The same as it went out with everything else.
[47:52] Well, 10 cents is not much even if you have five kids or 50 cents is fine.
[47:58] And they know how much food is in the stores, so it's not like we're not out paying more.
[48:03] And today they apparently, our nutrition service manager now wanted to do, has always wanted to try eggs.
[48:13] She says they're really cheap in terms of school lunch purchase.
[48:18] Really easy to make and great for kids.
[48:22] Anyway, she was nervous.
[48:24] they tried it and the kids were like can we have eggs every day and if you can
[48:29] pay a dollar sixty and your kids can get a scrambled egg breakfast you know
[48:34] that meets nutrition's certain state nutrition's service value. You're doing
[48:38] pretty good so I felt pretty good. No cult cereal, just sugar pops or something. I
[48:44] think they have that to some times but today the eggs were the that was the thing.
[48:49] Now it's great.
[48:50] Yeah, kids were like, did you hear me?
[48:51] Did you make some friends?
[48:52] Yeah, I did.
[48:53] I didn't get some bowl a longer film.
[48:55] So anyway, that's why I need your paper.
[48:57] And I think the whole thing class is going to do all the policy in the next one.
[49:01] Yeah.
[49:01] There you are.
[49:03] Hope so.
[49:06] Okay, Platte, what do you think, you ready?
[49:09] I'm ready.
[49:09] Okay.
[49:10] I'm trying to clean the wall.
[49:11] So I can give the summaries in your packet, but I feel 3, 12 kind of just briefly in the
[49:21] So the value or the cost of items I would you would appreciate rather than expensive used
[49:27] to be 5,000 but like there's a state policy that says it would be 10 and there's some federal
[49:32] regulations too that would be 10 and all the accounts on the opposite should be 10.
[49:36] So we're changing that to 10.
[49:39] I think that will help.
[49:41] Yes, thank you.
[49:42] Well, that was an easy policy then.
[49:45] That was a person.
[49:45] That was great.
[49:46] There's a few things off your web.
[49:47] Two deletes and two ads.
[49:49] A lot of them.
[49:50] It's kind of good.
[49:51] We pay you good money for this, too, y'all.
[49:54] Now comes the next one.
[49:57] This one actually isn't as scary either.
[49:59] Not very big.
[49:59] So the electronic resources, if you were following the legislative session, you'd probably
[50:05] heard some phrasing that it's a bell to bell ban on cell phone or bell to bell ban.
[50:11] The electronic devices are probably on the electronic devices.
[50:15] Well, a lot, that was actually two years ago, in the mission, they kind of made up
[50:19] belt belt rather than in the school day and instructional time.
[50:21] But anyway, there is a lot that says that that unless the school has a different policy,
[50:28] essentially, kids shouldn't have their phone, shouldn't build these or phones from belt
[50:32] belt, except for these exceptions, like a medical necessity or a journey emergency or to call
[50:40] to safety duty, or use the safety duty app.
[50:43] But that's not the schools don't have to follow the bell to bell ban.
[50:47] They can have their own policy which most do that allows more flexibility which is what
[50:51] Syracuse Arts does.
[50:52] So we really didn't change much of this policy other than adding some language there that
[50:58] clarified a few things, one of which is an electronic device you have to add AI classes because
[51:05] that's becoming a thing.
[51:06] Kids think they can wear the AI classes whenever and they have, you know, these virtual
[51:11] abilities, you know, and so we added that in there. But really, I don't think unless
[51:17] your keys are swanced to, they can just do what they did last year. So we really didn't
[51:22] make too many changes than other than that. So I've added some, something like which there.
[51:27] What are your designs? Flexibility is good. Yeah. On page 38, so if you see there, this
[51:34] is a parents-made request. The principal allows students to briefly use a
[51:39] probably under electronic advice during non-instructional time is best find location does it do by
[51:43] school so that's a new thing the parents can request okay can my kid if you don't allow it during
[51:49] this time can my kid use it in the spot you choose for you doesn't mean you have to accept it but
[51:55] that's a no if you'll get those requests a lot or not that's it so I think or they can come to
[52:01] the office who use the limb line if they really have to come on well when when they I could see
[52:09] maybe something medical like a diabetic sometimes parents really want to know their numbers on
[52:15] diabetes if they're little yeah so I could see something like that yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that
[52:24] makes it easy for the 504 so do you have the watches in here too yeah okay I should have
[52:31] I read that a little closer, all of a sudden I thought,
[52:33] much as I got a little first grader.
[52:36] Great, grand, good job.
[52:37] She's calling me all the time.
[52:40] Oh my gosh, take this away from her.
[52:44] We also, I also updated some stuff in the Internet safety
[52:47] portion of this policy that, so this is also coming
[52:52] from a bill in this last legislative session
[52:54] that parents want to see their students time
[52:58] on a school device to see how much
[53:01] So they can have that data and I think the technology measures that you have through
[53:09] your ETS, we don't always have that data, has that capability to see that.
[53:16] So they can do that if they want.
[53:20] That's about it.
[53:22] That's such a long policy though, isn't it?
[53:25] Yeah, I feel like.
[53:26] That covers like three or four different policy
[53:28] requirements in one, so that's why it always went so long.
[53:34] The next one, the paid parental and post-partum
[53:37] recovery policy, so that was new as a blast year.
[53:42] We're the state required you to provide paid parental
[53:46] and post-partum recovery for those employees that
[53:50] receive benefits and otherwise qualify.
[53:53] and so it was six weeks. If someone had a baby they got six weeks. If you were the
[54:00] spouse of someone who had a baby you got three weeks. Well now they added a couple
[54:05] new categories, adoption, which adoption is already covered under parental leave, but this
[54:11] one's for an adoption of a child, I think, younger than six. So if you adopt a child, you're
[54:17] getting six, you're going to get six weeks. You're going to get the normal parental leave for
[54:20] three and then you're going to get adoption lead for three. They also created foster
[54:24] lead. Foster used to be part of the parental lead category but now it's its own separate
[54:29] category and instead of getting three weeks, now you have four weeks of foster lead. You
[54:35] can have a foster parent. So it's just making those revisions there. And also one thing we
[54:42] added in here is, so for postpartum, this, when you, when, for postpartum recovery leave,
[54:53] your leave has to start on the day you have the baby, it's in the law. And so in here,
[54:59] it says it used to say, you know, if there's any intervening non-contract days after your
[55:05] leave starts that doesn't count toward the period of your your three period. But
[55:11] these weird situations happen where okay what if you have a baby on the last day
[55:16] school okay the teacher you know the day of last day school well if you read the
[55:22] positive face value I said okay you have your first day but then you go through the
[55:26] whole summer and then starting August 15th that starts your day truly well that's
[55:33] I don't think anyone intended for that to be okay.
[55:36] So we would say the intervening days
[55:38] during the summer count towards that one.
[55:40] So you know, it's basically started to kind of stretch
[55:44] at the end of the year.
[55:45] My first year of teaching, and I have my second daughter
[55:47] on the last year of school.
[55:49] Thank you, really?
[55:50] Did you come back in the fall?
[55:52] I did.
[55:52] How are you?
[55:53] I'm going to come back every fall season.
[55:55] There you go.
[55:56] But so those are the days for these changes,
[55:59] and you might think.
[55:59] Well, I like that one, because I mean, I
[56:02] I could see teachers would want to do that.
[56:05] Yeah, you know, just, and we're, you know,
[56:07] it seems like we're picking on postpartum recovery,
[56:09] but we're not, I mean, that's the only lead,
[56:11] the other lead say you have to use it
[56:12] within six months of the event happening,
[56:14] but this one's like, okay, it starts on this day,
[56:16] so where it starts on a certain day, it makes sense to-
[56:19] That, that's the tricky part is that the state makes the,
[56:24] the law makes it start on that day.
[56:26] So that's how you do it, it's always for that.
[56:30] Well, that's often when it starts.
[56:33] You're going to have problems.
[56:35] Yes, so I think none of this qualifies for, I think it's all continuous lead periods
[56:43] except for foster lead.
[56:46] I think that one for some reason that they allow intermedly for foster lead.
[56:52] The rest of them are continuous lead periods unless you get approval with them.
[56:56] And there might be some reason sometimes where you would allow intermed, but the rest
[56:59] I was like, OK, you're going to take consecutive days,
[57:02] except for foster year allowed intermittently.
[57:05] I do have a question on that, too.
[57:07] So I'm a foster parent, and I get my leave for that.
[57:11] And then I adopt that child.
[57:12] Do I get the adoption on top of it?
[57:13] Or can I stack it?
[57:14] I can stack it.
[57:17] I just said you can't use it for both.
[57:18] All right.
[57:19] And I'm not trying to milk the system.
[57:21] I mean, my brother actually adopted a little foster girl.
[57:25] It's going to say, I don't know how long.
[57:29] I was going to say that in his situation that would have been good, she had some needs and it would have been a great thing.
[57:37] Go back to work, you'll feel better.
[57:38] For sure.
[57:40] I think that question must have come up.
[57:42] It must have.
[57:43] Yeah.
[57:44] It's right there.
[57:47] And adoption.
[57:50] You've got to get to it.
[57:52] I wonder if this is going to be left along then for one year.
[57:55] I don't know.
[57:55] more than a year it'll be a whole on this. I doubt it too. Something else will come in.
[58:05] The precariously policy versions were pretty minor mostly kind of updated these code
[58:09] sections. Adding a couple little updates needed to be inserted multiple renderers. Yeah like
[58:15] making sure especially when you're doing professional services, you know, you don't have to do a bidding
[58:21] process, unless it's over 100 grand, but you're supposed to rank them, so it kind of gives
[58:25] you a little more guidance there when you're doing these exceptions to the RFP requirements.
[58:32] So it was good to update that.
[58:35] Not about things, though.
[58:36] And then I inserted something here about, you know, if you were to use federal restricted
[58:42] funds for a procurement, there are different center requirements sometimes, and you use
[58:47] most restrictive rules and so we do that anyway but we got a lot
[58:58] of them here. I need
[59:01] to work on titles to policies that are too long sometimes. This one's a salary supplement
[59:05] for highly needed educational program policy.
[59:18] You're supposed to review this annually and re-approved annually.
[59:25] And right now you're supposed to desegate your high needs areas and it's teachers and those
[59:29] high needs areas that get a little extra salary supplement.
[59:31] And so last year, school chose special education, K-39 teachers, secondary science teachers, secondary math teachers.
[59:39] I forgot to add, after a conversation with Kelly, that we're going to also add,
[59:45] I'm supposed to add kindergarten teachers who teach two half day sessions, because those are hard to come by.
[59:53] That's hard, because it's easier for the teacher to just have one class of kids.
[1:00:00] Only do one set of parent teacher conferences. And so it's, it's kind of what are your schools? Who, what schools are offering half day? Well, North did last year, but now they're full day. They do their full day. And our south campus has two sessions of half day. Is that something they, they have a need to keep? I know, but yeah, the request was really was a high.
[1:00:28] and so yeah and and so I think it's hard to get that offered and so we want to
[1:00:37] offer that because it gives us one room with two classes also good for
[1:00:45] but we pay them an extra stipend so I need to figure out how to turn that into
[1:00:57] So here's the other way to talk about is maybe our manufacturing and if you're going
[1:01:03] to add the kindergarten, I really would love to add the manufacturing teacher because
[1:01:09] the rest of our CTE teachers have, you know, they're all great but it's hard to find the
[1:01:19] teacher that can run the wiser, that can run the machines, and the person that we found
[1:01:27] came from Hill Air Force Base and taught all of those, all of that machinery, that positions
[1:01:34] hard, but when I brought it up with my team, they were really more focused on the areas that
[1:01:41] are the hardest to hire traditionally.
[1:01:46] And so I think we add the kindergarten
[1:01:51] because we're already paying her a stipend
[1:01:53] and it would be nice to not have to,
[1:01:56] it would be nice for this to cover that
[1:01:59] because we identified that as a high area of need
[1:02:02] and maybe talk about adding the other challenges
[1:02:05] maybe next year.
[1:02:06] The problem with picking in an area like CTE
[1:02:10] and only picking one and that's going to be, yeah because that's going to be, that's going
[1:02:16] to be an nightmare. I mean, teachers don't like this shine that they're not getting the
[1:02:20] money anyway, you know. I used to say in English, well, I'm important because none of you
[1:02:25] could even talk or read if it wasn't for us, you know.
[1:02:29] With the new IRP law for reading intervention, I will tell you that it's hard to define
[1:02:37] this, which is why we didn't add it. But really, I mean, we have to have people that can
[1:02:45] teach kids how to read, right? And to me, that's one of the hardest jobs to do. But how
[1:02:53] do you define that other than test scores? And I will never believe in Marriott Pay.
[1:02:59] But you know, I think just follow the guidelines there and just stay away from that. You just,
[1:03:04] I mean, that's a really black hole.
[1:03:07] And this is what the state used to use the money for.
[1:03:11] So we just kind of kept that line, and so right now,
[1:03:15] I think that's the safest other than the half day,
[1:03:19] because I thought, we're paying that person, which means we
[1:03:21] identify that as a high need, talked with the principals
[1:03:24] and they're like, absolutely.
[1:03:26] Kelly, with the laser and manufacturing,
[1:03:28] doesn't that teacher have to have some added certification
[1:03:31] to use a laser and laser safety?
[1:03:34] He really does, unfortunately, he came with them because he had them in the whole air force base.
[1:03:39] Right, but I mean.
[1:03:41] Oh, you're saying requiring a specific certification for safety.
[1:03:46] That is a really good.
[1:03:47] But those are things too that you can add like with your masters that you pay extra money for that.
[1:03:54] You could do the same thing if they need certification.
[1:03:56] If you'll finish that within this period of time, we'll pay for it.
[1:04:00] And we have brought some of these do require added safety certification laser you know in the medical field
[1:04:08] You can't even be in a room using players until all of you are
[1:04:16] Yeah, and that is something we didn't have to worry about bringing them in because you already have we really found a goal line
[1:04:24] But I'm just saying in general not just because we got a goal
[1:04:30] like we need drone safety.
[1:04:33] So yeah, I will check into the extra required certifications
[1:04:36] and that would really be good for us to consider next year.
[1:04:40] I love that idea.
[1:04:41] Do you pay for some of the masters if they finish it
[1:04:43] on at a certain period?
[1:04:45] If they finish their masters.
[1:04:47] They just get their, they added,
[1:04:49] do you don't pay for the masters itself?
[1:04:51] No.
[1:04:52] Okay, thank you.
[1:04:54] No, thank you, that's a great suggestion.
[1:04:56] Sometimes you're trying to figure out
[1:04:58] how do you quantify that?
[1:04:59] and I talked with Wade at a sense about some ideas and you know that was a
[1:05:06] great conversation and that goes right along with it so thanks. So I'm excited
[1:05:11] to go the next one and see what happens in the next education this year every
[1:05:17] year.
[1:05:20] School is running in situations where there were high needs teachers at
[1:05:24] qualified for the stipend but maybe they've left halfway through the year and so
[1:05:29] So I think most schools now are paying the stipends later on during the school year,
[1:05:33] but if you ever, we, we specified in here that you ever have some that were less than
[1:05:36] the full year, you only get their programs here.
[1:05:38] Pro-read?
[1:05:39] Yeah.
[1:05:39] So just because it was kind of creating, there's, we wanted that to be clear in there.
[1:05:43] And we pay ours in May.
[1:05:45] Okay.
[1:05:46] So you shouldn't have that.
[1:05:47] Right.
[1:05:47] That, that'll help.
[1:05:48] Okay.
[1:05:50] It's my sex education interest.
[1:05:51] So you know what I'm saying?
[1:05:52] He's been waiting.
[1:05:53] You're just wondering.
[1:05:55] No.
[1:05:56] No.
[1:05:57] So they're always fitting in with this, with these laws too, but they, they, they miss,
[1:06:05] they improve their, they, they look at, they change the definition of sex education
[1:06:10] instruction.
[1:06:12] But it kept its name this year.
[1:06:13] It made it through its name.
[1:06:15] It did.
[1:06:16] It just adds some detail in there.
[1:06:17] It will in 27.
[1:06:18] And then the other thing that really it did, that applies to the junior high teachers and
[1:06:23] courses is that it sets some more specific parameters and you'll see these in the procedures
[1:06:29] not in the policy but about the health curriculum.
[1:06:32] What has to be taught?
[1:06:33] What can be taught?
[1:06:34] So, that doesn't apply to elementary courses but to the junior high and high school
[1:06:39] divorces or in the American junior high courses.
[1:06:42] Those are the procedures about what the health curriculum has to include, instruction in
[1:06:49] the topics there.
[1:06:49] That's mainly your ninth grade classes anyway, right?
[1:06:55] So what you have to teach and what you cannot teach when it comes to sex education.
[1:06:59] So they're all listed there.
[1:07:02] But that's about it.
[1:07:06] We need to get into the needy-gritty.
[1:07:10] Okay, this last one.
[1:07:14] The weapons on school property.
[1:07:15] So you've had this call for a while.
[1:07:22] At one point last year before the legislative session,
[1:07:25] there was some debate.
[1:07:27] And I think even the A.J.'s office may have put out
[1:07:29] an opinion that basically said, under the current law,
[1:07:33] before the legislative session, if you have,
[1:07:36] it was interpreted to say, if you have a concealed caring
[1:07:40] permit, clearly under the law, you can carry
[1:07:43] concealment, school property.
[1:07:45] You know, I have to tell anyone, school, you can't even
[1:07:47] to demand that they tell you whatever.
[1:07:50] But then there was an agency that said,
[1:07:52] also if you have a concealed carry permit,
[1:07:55] you can also carry openly on school property.
[1:07:58] And that threw a lot of people off, you know.
[1:08:00] Yeah, all you have got.
[1:08:01] Sold carry permits, so that means you can carry
[1:08:02] openly on school property.
[1:08:04] That made a lot of school administration.
[1:08:06] I mean, I don't know about that.
[1:08:09] At least to the point where it came into legislation,
[1:08:12] they clarified, no, if you have a concealed carry permit,
[1:08:16] You have to carry it concealed on to go property unless the name of the permit.
[1:08:21] It's less like a couple.
[1:08:22] The couple circumstances.
[1:08:24] Something like if you're addressing a threat or there's a couple other,
[1:08:31] like I remember what they are, maybe they didn't hear.
[1:08:33] But anyway, it kind of closed that question.
[1:08:36] No, just because you have a concealed doesn't mean you can carry it openly.
[1:08:39] There are only limited circumstances you can do that.
[1:08:42] And you'll have some people that carry concealed, and here you won't know about, you may even have teachers are doing, but you also have a school guardian that carries concealed.
[1:08:50] And of course, if they were having to use it in a threat situation, they can carry it out in the open, but otherwise it stays concealed if you haven't concealed the carrier permit.
[1:09:02] So, made that change in there.
[1:09:04] I like that change, it didn't really make a lot of sense to me that I can see the carrier
[1:09:09] permit gain and permission to carry it openly, but who am I to see what the law should be
[1:09:13] doing for the rest of the world?
[1:09:16] I can hear those questions first.
[1:09:18] Absolutely.
[1:09:19] I don't see the red lines in this one, but they're making sure the changes are in here.
[1:09:24] Maybe I can give Chris to you.
[1:09:25] I did notice one thing on just flashing back on the second education, and I think still has
[1:09:31] Brian's name on it from as board chair rather than Mary.
[1:09:34] I guess we could go get Brian if we want to and have him sign it, but that'll hurt my
[1:09:39] feelings.
[1:09:40] I don't know if it's saying we got a new leader so make sure we're actually caught that
[1:09:45] as I was preparing for the manual so I took that out.
[1:09:48] Did you already?
[1:09:49] I didn't even see that.
[1:09:50] I saw it there.
[1:09:52] I don't think he's going to want us calling him to sign it, it's probably good.
[1:09:57] So when you go on, you just make sure on the...
[1:09:59] Yeah, for sure.
[1:09:59] If she's got a fix there, you say to add the kindergarten teachers who teach the kindergarten.
[1:10:08] Have they kindergarten was the one who will change that?
[1:10:12] So just remember that concealed weapons to have them be careful on the bathrooms.
[1:10:18] Because Art and I can testify that they went into janitor, went into the bathroom and blew up the toilet.
[1:10:25] Be careful. Pretty funny. Not funny. It wasn't an art school, it's fun here.
[1:10:37] Okay, just before we vote on these, Brad, would you just mind updating this
[1:10:42] board about the bond and what you know and what what we should know?
[1:10:48] So, thanks to Gabe and some work of some of the other brothers, the flat finally got recorded at the county.
[1:10:57] That was a big help.
[1:10:58] We sent all the information to the bond attorneys who after the U.S.
[1:11:04] and they also needed a signature on some documents from the treasure, treasure oaks and trustee.
[1:11:11] I hadn't really signed a couple things today. We're going to send them all out.
[1:11:14] We're just waiting on the bond attorney to say we're ready to go
[1:11:19] Games a little worried that they might want the survey then updated again
[1:11:23] Should be annoying and wouldn't change much because none of that building points changed but just knowing that we've teed up silverpeak to
[1:11:31] Be ready just to increase the number one so that would still be a couple of weeks. So hopefully I haven't heard back
[1:11:40] Talk to the bond attorneys Monday afternoon have not heard back so I'm reaching out to them tomorrow
[1:11:44] With these documents and kind of putting the pressure on of the we've signed everything is your review done
[1:11:51] We're ready to make them say they're like yes, or now we need something else
[1:11:56] And so that's where we are
[1:11:57] We we're also getting an updated title, but that one's not a big deal
[1:12:01] God would turn that around very quickly. So we're ready to go. We're just waiting on them
[1:12:08] The good news, you know, I shared this with Neal
[1:12:10] Well, you drive home that one night.
[1:12:14] Lastly, last Thursday night, that the execution of this
[1:12:21] was fantastic.
[1:12:22] If you paid attention to the bond market,
[1:12:24] bond rates went up about 30 plus basis points.
[1:12:28] And that's actually why the feds announced yesterday
[1:12:30] they were going to double buying back.
[1:12:31] They're going to buy back all the longer bonds,
[1:12:33] because there's not a demand for them.
[1:12:35] So to give you an idea, even 30 basis points on your bonds,
[1:12:40] if you were pricing now rather than in June,
[1:12:42] would be about $240,000 extra a year in interest.
[1:12:47] So it's a good thing we did and what we did,
[1:12:49] even if now on the back end, we have what I'd like to say,
[1:12:53] a little less support from your council and those
[1:12:57] that we would like to have a little more engaged.
[1:13:00] But luckily, we have Gabe and Sheldon's
[1:13:03] being really helpful, too.
[1:13:04] He's the one that came and gave with the ones that
[1:13:06] walked into the city and then left it there
[1:13:08] and then walk back and got it and then took it to the county to find out that the one person that records it went on vacation.
[1:13:15] Right. Nobody else is involved.
[1:13:15] And they don't cross train. No, don't do that. Don't do that.
[1:13:18] Which is funny because then the Monday he came back. It took about like 10 minutes to get the notification that it was recorded.
[1:13:25] Crazy. That's where we're actually.
[1:13:26] So we'll hopefully have good news here in the next day or two to say we're all done. We just need to get something decided.
[1:13:35] And we've drawn down already on it.
[1:13:37] Yeah, that's fine, it's really just the self-dampage.
[1:13:41] And finally getting all the paperwork in and done.
[1:13:44] And you can go on to the next Bond school.
[1:13:50] Have you already passed those on?
[1:13:53] Good for you.
[1:13:54] So, well, Brad's just done a great job with this and has just monitored it and helped us
[1:14:01] with it.
[1:14:03] Bonding is complicated.
[1:14:05] And Dave Robinson did a really great job for us to
[1:14:10] laying it out for the board and really having us understand
[1:14:15] what areas we could do and how far.
[1:14:17] And we kept messing it up with saying,
[1:14:20] well let's do this instead of, I mean, our poor building,
[1:14:23] you know, we went from buying land in a new school to,
[1:14:26] no, let's, and then, oh, while we're at it,
[1:14:28] and then, oh, let's put the gym on there by the way.
[1:14:31] But it was great and when we're done, we will be done other than just refurbishing those things
[1:14:39] good old, you know, we're built out and we've got it set so we have maximum number of kids
[1:14:46] that are charter allows and so I think we're in a great place so thanks Brad for doing that.
[1:14:51] So many conversations I'd say to him, should I sign this or should I not sign this?
[1:14:57] And then my next script, can crystal sign this or do I need to sign it?
[1:15:00] So, yeah, lots of signatures and lots of back and forth and meetings that have the time I sat there. My wasn't really sure what they said. And just kind of watched other people and said, yeah, I think this will be good. Yeah, thanks. Yeah, I'll be good. So get they get in their own talk. They've got their own language. But Brad, thank you so much. We really appreciate you. And very just to add to that, you know this. But when we go to bond,
[1:15:29] And I've been very almost excited to know that we have a lot of respect for our team.
[1:15:36] And it's almost like, oh yeah, here's your approval.
[1:15:39] Where other schools have come in and really had to fight to even get it.
[1:15:44] So thank you, like you said.
[1:15:46] And I can verify on the city level that it's not as easy as this one was.
[1:15:52] Cities complicated too, because you have to go to so many different places to get approval
[1:15:57] to do the tax and it just it gets really complicated on a city level and you
[1:16:04] don't have a brad and so that's the problem you know there's this lawyer
[1:16:08] clear over here that doesn't for the all the cities and so it's just so it's
[1:16:13] really nice for the schools but you were you were the leader of that so thank you
[1:16:17] for this. Well you like it.
[1:16:27] You're building the things you are
[1:16:35] I don't have any more ideas, I don't know if anyone else does.
[1:16:41] I think it's perfect what we're doing and it'll be so, so good and I mean, Sheldon
[1:16:48] always says, oh we want to even start the new building till 2027 but we'll be done.
[1:16:54] He's just, I mean he's great and the weather has been real cooperative.
[1:16:57] and probably, unfortunately, this winner will be cooperative again, so but it's good.
[1:17:03] I mean, we've got the money, so we might as well do it, you know, and get it done.
[1:17:07] And it'll be nice not to rent south, this south campus, so good.
[1:17:13] Okay, so I am looking for a motion for these policy, well, all of them voting volumes, we got it.
[1:17:22] You got it? Okay, here we go. Let's go.
[1:17:24] So I will make a motion to approve the end-to-math purchase in the amount up to $40,000.
[1:17:29] The retaining wall with a project with Lexlandscape in the amount up to $30,000.
[1:17:36] The purchase of bleachers from ADP Lemco in the amount up to $70,000.
[1:17:42] The meal charge increase for the 10 cent and the adult increase as presented.
[1:17:47] And the amendments to the capitalization and expense.
[1:17:50] The electronic resources paid parental and postpartum recovery, procurement, salary supplement
[1:17:58] for highly needed educators to include the added half-day kindergarten incentive.
[1:18:05] And then sex education instruction and weapons on small property policies as presented.
[1:18:11] Okay.
[1:18:12] Thanks, now.
[1:18:13] A second on those?
[1:18:14] A second.
[1:18:20] on this. All right. Do you want to start us? Yes. Mary. Yes. Mary. Yes. Mary. Yes. Mary. Yes.
[1:18:26] Okay. That's a lot of voting items and a lot of yeses. So, well done. Okay. Just to
[1:18:33] reminder, our next board meeting will be October 1st and we're halfway through August. Isn't
[1:18:39] that shocking? When you think of October, you're like, oh, yeah. Not too far. So.
[1:18:49] Almost
[1:18:50] I'm looking for a motion to write.
[1:18:53] Just one thing.
[1:18:53] I'm just going to mention it to the principals.
[1:18:55] But on the front of this campus,
[1:18:57] they have the state e-bike policy right on the front doors.
[1:19:02] And unfortunately, you know, a severe tragedy
[1:19:04] right here by the school, you know.
[1:19:07] And I just am grateful that the schools are taking kind
[1:19:11] of an initiative to say, here's the policy.
[1:19:14] I saw teachers out there being very careful with the kids
[1:19:16] and trying to help them.
[1:19:17] and I, you know, it was just sad for our community that this happened, but we really do have
[1:19:24] to command and encourage them to say, here's the state policy on this and let's make sure
[1:19:29] we follow it.
[1:19:30] Could you got kids come to school with those bikes, e-bikes?
[1:19:34] Mm-hmm.
[1:19:34] Oh, yeah.
[1:19:35] You just have one or a whole lot of them.
[1:19:37] And scooters.
[1:19:38] Oh, scooters.
[1:19:39] So isn't the law here in Syracuse that they can't have those if they're not a license?
[1:19:46] No.
[1:19:46] They didn't, and they didn't put that as part of there.
[1:19:49] I've got a lot of requirements and stuff.
[1:19:52] That's it.
[1:19:52] If it's a certain speed, they have to be licensed.
[1:19:56] I don't know.
[1:19:57] I mean, I don't know any class one in class three.
[1:19:59] But I do know that Syracuse City Council is going to be addressing this.
[1:20:05] Kelly, just, I don't know, maybe your junior high, you know,
[1:20:11] your leaders there in the grades.
[1:20:13] maybe they could get involved with Syracuse City when they're talking about
[1:20:18] this and presenting and saying you know kind of we want the safety here. I mean
[1:20:25] it's awful. It's the right them through our field when schools out they
[1:20:31] ride the basis. I've had to excuse kids from the property. Not our kids but
[1:20:38] neighborhood kids and it's been next to that trail so it's it needs education from
[1:20:47] the parent to the children and city's got to be brave enough to do what they
[1:20:53] need to do so but maybe just a push and and that that would be a good thing
[1:20:59] with your with your student body officers to go over and say we'd like to
[1:21:05] present or maybe not present but you know be a part of what we do you know to
[1:21:09] help and advertise it and you know so send an email home to every parent make
[1:21:16] them sign off on it okay um looking for a motion to adjourn if anyone wants to
[1:21:24] do that like a motion we adjourn okay ten a second all in favor all right we're out
[1:21:30] out of here. Thank you so much for coming.
[1:21:35] As soon as she turns this off.
