[0:46]
landmarking of for 204 Pine Street, Way
Out West Investments LLC.
[1:00]
Just let you guys know this is from
Eagles building. Yep. Let everybody
[1:03]
know.
>> Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. How
[1:06]
are you? How are you? Good. My name is
Paul Glenn. of PSTM architecture and uh
[1:12]
we're here uh petitioning before you for
Eagles Hall um for landmarking and uh we
[1:20]
appreciate the opportunity that you have
you know before us here um I can give
[1:25]
you a little background on the building
and I think you all have a package
[1:31]
um Eagles Hall historic property name
was Castle Hall Drug and um it owner was
[1:38]
GB Sherman
And then um
[1:42]
that was the original owner of the
building. Um you know there's a couple
[1:46]
things about it. The the period of
significance on this building is a
[1:49]
number of things. Its use is incredibly
important. Um the style of the building
[1:56]
is a very early uh type of um
kind of an art deco style. Um it has
[2:04]
some characteristics of it. It's not a
full-fledged
[2:08]
um version of that, but it's kind of a
crude version in the beginning. Um the
[2:13]
formal address is 204 Pine Street. Um
it's on uh blocks 1 2 3 and 4, block 17
[2:22]
uh and part of the vacated Nevada
street. Its zoning is a CC. It is not in
[2:29]
the Corazan district. Um, we thought
about that before back way back when
[2:35]
when I got the Arizona and Pine Street
buildings. We included them in the
[2:40]
Corazan district. Um, the dividing line
is right up the street. So, um, and I
[2:46]
think um I think probably the the the
reason being is we would like a drive-in
[2:52]
that's not permitted drive-thru for the
coffee shop that's not permitted in HP.
[2:57]
It is permitted in the CC. I think and
and what we've worked with with um
[3:04]
History Colorado is we keep it low
impact and it's acceptable. So um
[3:14]
so we had the original site 5 LA 14635
204 Pine Street. We did have um history
[3:23]
Colorado review this um
it meets the criteria for the
[3:29]
evaluation. We would like to get it um
historically designated in lie of state.
[3:36]
Um we do have this this project was
given um
[3:43]
$1 million in historical tax credits
from the state of Colorado. And um you
[3:50]
know like with any of these historical
projects it's it's a chinkle blocks
[3:54]
trying to get all the capital stacked
together and get the the money put
[3:58]
together to get enough funding for it.
So and we also do have from from
[4:04]
Trinidad part of your um original
program. We do have a housing now grant
[4:10]
on this project as well which we're kind
of grandfathered in on that. Um we do
[4:15]
plan on using it. uh we do have to do
this project in phases. It's just
[4:20]
financially we can't uh we can't make it
work. So um we are getting help from TUR
[4:27]
on this as well. Um
so the big thing I think with this this
[4:32]
project is phase one will be the ground
floor way west coffee on the Nevada
[4:40]
side. We have two
um well it's separated by the stairwell
[4:46]
that goes to the basement which is a
banquet facility and to the upstairs
[4:50]
which used to be the old Eagles uh area
and so the the two Westerly units are
[4:57]
small retail units and we talked to the
college they're interested in them so is
[5:02]
a merger campus so it's exciting to kind
of um move forward with that portion of
[5:08]
the project the um
so right now the main floor with Turo we
[5:15]
want to bring this building live uh it
has underside services to it um some
[5:22]
services I should say. So with Turo
we're bringing um gas, water, fire lines
[5:29]
um and electric to the building which
will house the project. The next phase
[5:34]
would be to ground floor, which would be
the coffee shop, and we're already
[5:39]
underway with bidding for that. The
building's been permitted for quite some
[5:43]
time. I have to talk to you about
renewing that permit. Um, but yeah, so
[5:48]
that's um phase two would probably be
the lower level, the basement level um
[5:54]
with the elevator. It's designed with an
elevator. And then the third the last
[5:59]
phase would be the apartments upstairs
which is where the housing now comes in.
[6:04]
And so uh I think with with that said
give you a little background on the
[6:12]
building. Um built in 1903.
It is an unusual and I don't know if you
[6:18]
you all remember but it was about a year
and a half two years ago somebody
[6:22]
crashed into the front of that building
>> and um so the owners with the help of
[6:29]
the insurance we were able to rebuild
it. Um found out a number of things
[6:33]
about it and what we rebuilt we actually
incorporated what the design was. Our
[6:39]
drawings were complete for permit at
that point. So we we did move forward
[6:43]
with that corner of the renovation.
Um we also
[6:49]
um went forward with uh the painting of
the building. That particular paint uh
[6:55]
scheme is a desert paint scheme which is
characteristic of you know colors in
[7:00]
this area historically. And so if you
look on
[7:09]
the original colors were blue.
Um
[7:15]
» I remember that blue.
>> Yeah, it was a blue and a tan and and so
[7:20]
the new colors, not part of the
accident, but part of the owners wanting
[7:25]
to just move this project along. We had
come up with the rendering that you see
[7:31]
the color scheme there with the burgundy
and the greens and the tam along with
[7:37]
the dark browns
um windows
[7:41]
and then like a coffee beastro on the
Nevada street outdoor coffee beastro. So
[7:48]
to bring that to fruition, our paint
scheme does reflect that. After the the
[7:54]
repairs were were made to the uh the
corner there, we did go through we were
[8:00]
able to dry this roof in for we did have
some leaks and
[8:07]
we've got a half a dozen buildings that
we're working on and within a year if
[8:11]
you don't dry them in that deterioration
is it's incredible how fast it happens.
[8:16]
But we are dried in here. We do have the
paint scheme. And so with tourist's help
[8:21]
bringing this building alive, um we are
u we're moving along. And so part of our
[8:29]
our process is we we even though this
isn't a district, we feel this is a very
[8:34]
important building
being so close to the district. U
[8:39]
historically this north end over here
was only separated by the river. And
[8:45]
when it when the highway went through,
it really settled the north end. But it
[8:48]
was developing on its own as the north
end. And so like any city, they have
[8:55]
districts. And so we feel this district
is every bit as important as the
[9:00]
Corissant. It touches the Corazan. Some
one day it could be part of the Corusan.
[9:04]
Um
but I think um the exciting part is that
[9:10]
this building is moving forward and it's
a catalyst for that twob block stretch
[9:15]
and this goes back I don't know probably
six seven years when we were working on
[9:21]
101 Piney Street and working on around
the corner the Nevada Street project. Um
[9:29]
we felt that this was this twob block
stretch was really important. It's the
[9:33]
front door to the college. Why not make
it its own little district? So, we did a
[9:39]
a proono plan for the city that showed
this being its own district. We found if
[9:45]
you look on
the original photo,
[9:50]
area 179, you'll notice a four light
fixture type pole mounted fixture.
[9:57]
» Mhm. Um, apparently C has one of those
somewhere around there, but that would
[10:05]
designate this city or this district
from the Corissant district. And so we
[10:10]
thought that's kind of a cool thing. We
would put um light blocks at either end.
[10:15]
And so in meeting with the college last
week, they're excited about that. So
[10:20]
this building is kind of the cornerstone
of that district. Um we're also working
[10:26]
with the building K Corner
um from this building as well. So
[10:33]
it's exciting what's moving along on
that that side of town. Um Oh yeah.
[10:40]
So going back to the history of the
building uh 1903 is is uh on the
[10:45]
cornerstone above um up by the fire pit.
We don't know who the original architect
[10:51]
was. We don't know who the original
builder was. We do know that the blocks
[10:56]
in this building were indicative of a
fly ash. It was kind of a byproduct of
[11:03]
the coal ovens out here. And so it's not
a very stable block. It is a type of
[11:10]
concrete block. Um it's very fragile
that you can like claw it and get it to
[11:15]
but nonetheless. So we we know we feel
that the building is stable enough to go
[11:20]
with with it as is. and we've done as
part of our permit drawings, we've got
[11:25]
some stabilization to do with it, but we
feel it's a good candidate for a full
[11:30]
restoration.
Um, the building was originally designed
[11:34]
as as mixed use. So, the it was a
drugstore on the corner. Um,
[11:41]
and there were other retail units. It
was actually like a small cigar store on
[11:46]
the Nevada side. Little tiny little
store there. Um
[11:51]
the downstairs was was always banquet
and the upstairs uh was a combination of
[11:57]
kind of strange spaces. Um
[12:03]
we uh but ultimately when the Eagles uh
bought it, they converted it and I I'll
[12:11]
tell you a little more about that. Um
they converted it to their area which is
[12:15]
the Eagle's nest. The area is the
Eagle's nest. So, um but anyway, so
[12:21]
yeah, it it's assembly retail banquet.
Um it's current use, it's vacant. We're
[12:27]
proposing mixed use, which would be uh
retail, ground floor, banquet, and
[12:32]
apartments. We also, just to kind of
give you a little backstory, too. So,
[12:36]
the owners of this property own the
Nevada lot next door to it around the
[12:42]
corner. So, we did get that reszoneed
and permitted for uh food trucks, which
[12:48]
the the college loved it, the city loved
it, and so the back of one of these
[12:53]
retail units would actually be the
commissary for that right there. So,
[12:58]
that's that's still in the picture. It's
we're sloww walking this whole thing.
[13:03]
But um
anyway uh
[13:09]
the information criteria meets the
character in a number of ways or
[13:13]
historical eligibility. Uh it's
character was a early version of kind of
[13:20]
an art echo. Um
it is without a doubt according to the
[13:26]
state very um historically significant
in that it's an evaluation um on a
[13:33]
social history and fraternal um
organization. So they feel that that was
[13:38]
very for this particular um order of
eagles area eagles um it was significant
[13:45]
in this area for that very reason. you
know, we've got the, you know, the uh
[13:49]
the Shriners, got the Legion Hall,
there's a bunch of different
[13:52]
organizations. This is very similar to
that.
[13:55]
» Um
so, and that is the route that we would
[14:00]
take with the state if we had it um
recognized by the state would be for the
[14:05]
fraternal organization. They call it
criteria A. And that's kind of what
[14:09]
we're doing with you. we would we would
hope that you could um uh give us our
[14:15]
nomination and our designation based on
that same type of use. Um you I feel as
[14:20]
an architect it's has other
characteristics too.
[14:24]
» Um for instance I don't know if any of
you went in the tour that we had
[14:29]
recently in there
>> but the the bar is a very good example
[14:33]
of kind of that art deco which we're
going to reuse.
[14:37]
» Yeah, that was a beautiful bar.
>> Oh my gosh, it's cool. And we've got a
[14:40]
guy out of Chicago that's going to come
and and do the um all of the glass work
[14:45]
for it. We're we're moving that bar
downstairs.
[14:49]
» The upstairs would be apartments. Um the
main floor would be retail and then the
[14:54]
basement would be assembly.
>> And so, but we're going to we're moving
[14:57]
the bar down there, reconfiguring a
little bit, using all the pieces and
[15:01]
then redoing the uh you know, all the
glass work and the neon. So I think
[15:07]
that's really
>> that's very cool.
[15:09]
» Yeah, it is exciting.
Um,
[15:16]
so
[15:19]
um
go back a little bit of on the
[15:23]
attachment A. I tried to give you a
little history of what we had. Um, there
[15:28]
is some very interesting things about
this building. Um, and if you a lot of
[15:33]
the old-timers can kind of verify that,
um, we found a whole bunch of record in
[15:42]
the basement that tie this building to
the syndicate in Chicago. So, it's
[15:47]
pretty special.
>> Have fun.
[15:49]
» Yeah. And so, um, we we think that that
is something that we want to when we
[15:56]
start getting into the details of this
building, for instance, for,
[16:00]
uh, the banquet facility in particular
and the lobby that goes upstairs that
[16:05]
we'd like to play on that. And I think
that's that's pretty cool because that
[16:09]
is a huge part of Trinidad in itself was
was the, you know, connection up there.
[16:15]
So, uh, the building's art deco. It's a
um it's built to the locally sourced fly
[16:20]
ash
um with stucco on all four. Um
[16:26]
indicative of the art deco are the
smooth streamline lines, geometric
[16:30]
shapes
um geometric windows. If you look at um
[16:36]
it has storefront, but they've tried to
incorporate
[16:41]
small rectangular windows on two panels,
one on each street. Mhm.
[16:46]
» Um so and that would be very uh
characteristic of our deco. Same with
[16:53]
the 8 by8 scored
and that is 8 by8. It's not really a
[16:58]
scored concrete block. It's a it's a
plaster that's been scored in an 8 by8
[17:03]
pattern.
>> Um it has horizontal banding with the
[17:07]
dentals.
So um it's a two-story building built in
[17:11]
1903.
um Castle Hall uh purchased the land and
[17:16]
built the building um for about $5,400.
The building was known as Castle Hall
[17:21]
Block at that time,
owned by GB Sherman. Um
[17:28]
it was eventually sold in 1908 to CL
Brewer, who was also um
[17:35]
a pharmacist and a drugger. And they
kept it until the 30s, which is when it
[17:40]
changed hands. the paternal orders of
the Eagles purchased it for
[17:45]
approximately $15,000 and reinvested
another $22,000
[17:50]
to
uh where you see it now with the with
[17:54]
the large area hall on the one end, the
bar, the gaming room. And so part of
[18:01]
what we're doing with history and
working with history Colorado is even
[18:04]
though we are making these apartments up
there. Um
[18:10]
we're going to play on the fact that
these were large rooms. In other words,
[18:14]
in the hallway that is the circulation
for the apartments. We're doing transom
[18:19]
windows at the top. So you can literally
see that that same ceiling went through.
[18:24]
that was uh something that we we came up
with the state and felt that that'd be a
[18:28]
good way to actually see that you know
where those original rooms were.
[18:34]
So uh just a little creative uh design
on that end. And so um
[18:44]
1932 there was an explosion at the
building that's no longer there which is
[18:47]
the Nevada lot that's but the commissary
um damaged it. that the Eagles had to
[18:53]
put in their own money to fix it.
Litigation went on for years. Um,
[18:58]
» do you know the cause of the explosion?
Just out of curiosity,
[19:02]
» you know, I think
[19:08]
the syndicate got the wrong building.
Just saying
[19:16]
it could be. I don't know. But go
figure, right? explosion down there and
[19:20]
you know but uh so that's just my theory
but anyway the building is not connected
[19:27]
to the tunnels that are on main and
commercial even though it has what we
[19:33]
found could be a tunnel. I'm not willing
to go down there.
[19:37]
I've been down as many of these as I
can. I'm not willing to go down that
[19:42]
it did have a flood. This is about seven
years ago. the uh the corner of Pine and
[19:49]
Arizona flooded. It's a backup sewer
possibly, whatever.
[19:54]
» Uh that flooded the Pine Street
building, took on water, full basement
[19:58]
up to about 2 ft on the main floor. This
took up water in the basement as well.
[20:04]
And um the old owner went ahead and
redid that whole basement floor. So,
[20:09]
we're fortunate to have that done. It's
all new joist, waterproofed, and
[20:13]
everything. So
um
[20:21]
and then um so yeah I think you know um
the significance of this building and
[20:27]
and it's funny I learned all kinds of
stories when we were doing street school
[20:32]
it was you know some of the old-timers
just have all kinds of stories about
[20:37]
these buildings and and the history with
them and actual users of those
[20:42]
buildings. This is no different. Um,
at one point, you know, anybody that
[20:47]
ever had a wedding in town back in the
day had it here. They knew kind of, you
[20:52]
know, things about the building that,
you know, she's probably better off
[20:57]
staying away from it other than a
wedding. But, um, we found a lot of
[21:01]
cool, uh, things that as far as, um,
what, you know, what they were doing in
[21:08]
there as far as the gaming and things
like that. It's part of the history. It
[21:11]
is what it is, right? So um but I think
that's the same that correlate that use
[21:17]
kind of correlates with what state was
saying also as far as social
[21:22]
organizations. Doesn't matter who used
it or what the use was. Knights of
[21:27]
Columbus had their meetings in there.
The Eagles had their meetings in there.
[21:32]
Um and then there were a lot of labor
union meetings in there as well which is
[21:36]
is part of the history of this this
town. So um we feel it's it's
[21:41]
significant in that more so than the
fact it's an early version of art deco.
[21:47]
I mean it it you really have to look at
later versions of art deco to understand
[21:54]
it is one but that yeah it's kind of you
know kind of gray. It's its historical
[22:00]
significance is is way more important
with its use and not with the labor
[22:05]
unions
>> and eagles. So um and really it was it
[22:09]
was a catalyst for the development of
that north side. And that was typically
[22:14]
a lot of the stockyards and things were
over there. And so it was kind of the,
[22:19]
you know, the uh the castaway so to
speak. And when it started to develop
[22:24]
this building, the one kitty corner from
it um down around the corner the the
[22:30]
Malveri Apartments and then the Pine
Street building there. It it was
[22:35]
developing all on its own. And I think
that's what we're trying hoping is that
[22:40]
we can bring that whole district back
and and um like I said that the college
[22:45]
is all excited about it because it's you
don't have to cross under the river or
[22:50]
cross over the river. You don't have to
go into the expressway. They'll have
[22:53]
places on their own side down ride their
bike down. Um,
[22:58]
and then this is going to be one the c
the coffee shop will have acoustic music
[23:03]
in it and um serve food. It'll be
computer friendly. Um, the building will
[23:10]
now be accessible in an elevator.
Um, but with all that adaptive reuse,
[23:17]
the most important intent is to keep it
the way it was as as best you can. I
[23:23]
mean, that's that's um we have to use it
for modern day uses. So,
[23:32]
» you guys have any questions?
[23:39]
» No.
>> I appreciate what you're doing over
[23:43]
there.
>> Thank you.
[23:44]
» Actually, how many uh apartments are you
looking to put in the
[23:47]
» So, we're going to do eight. And um it's
a range. Most of them are studio.
[23:53]
There's four studio. I'm sorry. Five
studio,
[23:58]
two onebedrooms
and a twobedroom. Okay.
[24:02]
» And um
so and we thought the probably the the
[24:07]
best use or that you know in talking
with with the college is off-campus
[24:13]
senior housing or professor housing.
It's right there.
[24:17]
» Yep. And um there's a need for it and we
just you know it's close and it's it
[24:23]
creates that that urban environment that
>> large cities embrace you know little
[24:29]
districts like that depending on where
you are in that city whether it's little
[24:32]
Italy, Greek town, whatever those
districts are important to the fabric of
[24:37]
the city and especially you have a
college right there too.
[24:40]
» It's it's just that much more important.
>> Okay.
[24:44]
Um,
>> you said that
[24:49]
the historic district ends right there,
but it might move. So,
[24:53]
» if we if we do the survey as we've been
doing it, we're in first phase for the
[24:57]
survey.
>> So, we could possibly in the last phase
[25:01]
push the boundaries. It has been brought
up by um, History Colorado. That's a
[25:06]
possibility.
>> So, then what happens with the
[25:08]
drive-thru?
God would be permitted under
[25:12]
» if it gets put in before
grandfather. Yeah. Yeah. And and so like
[25:17]
when we um I remember this goes way back
probably 8 years or so when we were
[25:23]
doing 101 Pine which is down at the end
of the street there and then uh the
[25:28]
Arizona that was all one property. So
not only did we get that split into two
[25:34]
but we also got that added to the
Corazan district at that time. Um the
[25:39]
boundary line went right down the center
of the street of Pine. It stopped, made
[25:44]
a left and went south on Nevada down the
middle. So if the district expands, if
[25:50]
the Corazan district expands, this could
certainly be part of it. Um
[25:55]
I know that the owners for the building
across the street, which goes in a
[25:59]
little meat market, um they would be
interested in being a part of that as
[26:04]
well.
>> Arizona.
[26:06]
» Yeah. I haven't talked to the the
janitorial service, but that building is
[26:10]
kind of a cool building in its own
right, too. And then
[26:15]
could a college district exist on top of
the quarter zone?
[26:18]
» It certainly could. Yeah, absolutely.
It's an overlay district. So, yeah.
[26:23]
» Yeah. And I don't know if you're all
familiar, but this, you know, coming
[26:27]
from Chicago myself, I have a a special
place in my heart for the the rap
[26:33]
brothers. you know, two of them stayed
there, two came here.
[26:37]
» They all went to live down in
Carbondale. So, I know I went to school
[26:42]
there, too, um before Chicago. But
anyway, um if you if if you're familiar
[26:49]
with Grant Park,
um was a Spanish architect, a designer
[26:55]
that came over. He designed these light
blocks. Basically, it it can change with
[27:01]
you put pictures in there. program of
older clear. So what I proposed to the
[27:06]
city back about eight years ago is
something like that as bookends. So it
[27:11]
sounds like we've got the college
after Ronda left. We've got um Dustin
[27:17]
there renewed interest in that. So those
would be like the book ends of this
[27:21]
district.
>> And um we've got a parking plan. I think
[27:26]
that's still on file. I I you know um
but it's it's it's it's a collaborative
[27:32]
effort but that what it takes to the
building owners to help create that
[27:36]
district and so we felt to create the
district not only would we have parking
[27:42]
you know designated parking out there
some green spaces some trees outdoor
[27:46]
spaces like the beastro outdoor beastro
here but also designated a little
[27:51]
different when you go to these bigger
cities the districts are are delineated
[27:55]
by
for instance light fixtures are
[27:58]
different. So the light fixtures here
would be different than the cores on
[28:02]
even though they're part of it. It's an
overlay. So therefore these lights can
[28:06]
be different.
>> Mhm.
[28:08]
» You know, so it's really kind of an
evolving process. It takes forever. Um
[28:12]
we've done it a couple times up in
Illinois on some collar towns and um
[28:17]
Woodstock Square is one of them. Uh
Harvard, you know. So it's it's um it's
[28:22]
really fun to watch it evolve. You have
the buildings here. You have what a lot
[28:28]
of towns don't have. And so that's huge.
That's the first story.
[28:34]
» Harvard. That's where the AT&T
>> I'm sorry.
[28:38]
» They had an AT&T factory in Harvard.
>> Mhm.
[28:42]
» Well, we did a we did a Yeah. And that's
um we did a building there called the
[28:47]
Star Line. And I don't know how familiar
you are. They made refrigerators. It's
[28:52]
super long building. Um, we did some
work on that. We did that remodel.
[28:57]
That's a really cool building. Um,
very similar to
[29:04]
uh in Alexandria, Virginia, Oldtown
Alexandria. There's a place there called
[29:08]
the torpedo factory to make torpedoes.
It's this long building. It's like eight
[29:12]
blocks long and it's mixed use now. It's
just thriving. And so that's kind of
[29:18]
what we're hoping with some of these
buildings is that um emerging campus has
[29:23]
some interest in possibly
moving when they grow out of a space
[29:28]
there. They have the next step could be
here possibly. So
[29:34]
we're excited about this project moving
forward. It's been years
[29:38]
since we started this, but
>> with a little setback, too.
[29:42]
» Yes. But we're excited that it's moving
forward. um the whole you know Chur has
[29:49]
been great helping us with that and um
that's like ready to go and then the
[29:58]
next step is getting that ground floor
leased out. Um we do so the basement
[30:04]
level of this building does fit a niche
as far as assembly. Um
[30:11]
the college has their own
you know assembly rooms and and areas.
[30:17]
Um they have used space to create got
you know beautiful space there. The
[30:22]
Mitchell has a space as well for
depending on different uses there. This
[30:26]
fits into a close very small niche and
it's right across the street for their
[30:32]
own catering which which they like that
idea.
[30:36]
So, do I have a motion?
[30:41]
» We're all excited. I'll make a motion.
>> Second.
[30:47]
» May you have a vote?
>> Hill?
[30:49]
» Yes.
>> Amber?
[30:50]
» Yes.
>> Lisa?
[30:52]
» Yes.
>> Matthew?
[30:53]
» Yes.
>> Derek?
[30:54]
» Yes.
>> I can get this into city council on the
[30:58]
6th for first reading.
>> Okay.
[31:00]
» Um and then um I'll send you over the
agenda when I do so. Um and then it'll
[31:05]
be second reading which should be
1st of November I think. I'll have to
[31:12]
look at the calendar for agenda for
>> exciting. Thank you all very much.
[31:16]
» It sounds really exciting.
>> Thank you.
[31:18]
» No, we're very exciting.
>> Yeah, we're we're just one more. It's a
[31:21]
slow process. One building at a time.
Building a building one at a time.
[31:27]
» And I'm wearing two hats here. So, I'm a
little excited.
[31:33]
» I I hope that it's everything you said
it could be.
[31:36]
» We're hoping it's um I don't know if you
uh I don't know if I put them in here,
[31:42]
but I can certainly center
some of the So, we have the rendering of
[31:47]
the outside.
>> Mhm.
[31:50]
» We also have
>> If they want to see the inside, I can
[31:52]
pull the plans whenever they want to
come downstairs to look cuz we have we
[31:56]
have physical plans. So, we have a color
um I don't know if I brought them to the
[32:02]
walkth through, but so we have a a 3D
color rendering like this of the
[32:09]
beastro, the coffee shop, which is super
cool. Uh we're reusing a lot of the
[32:13]
fixtures and everything in there, the
ceiling tiles and all that. Uh we also
[32:18]
have um a render in one of the units
upstairs, too.
[32:23]
» So, we're going with all exposed duck
work. um they're small, they're tiny,
[32:29]
that they fit a niche in the market,
they're affordable,
[32:32]
» and um
>> by having a variety they're one
[32:36]
twobedroom, and that's based on market
need, too.
[32:40]
» Like I said, four or five of the
studios,
[32:43]
two onebs, one twobedroom. But that's
based on need, market need.
[32:47]
» And so if you have a professor or or an
upper grad that's married, they can have
[32:53]
multiple bedrooms. If you have, you
know, a single person, the studios are
[32:58]
perfect. So,
[33:05]
» this part of me's
never moving out.
[33:10]
» I'm not moving. It's like, yeah, I know.
My feet are planted.
[33:17]
» But you know what the truth is, too?
We're finding
[33:20]
um even on western slope that gone are
the days of the big houses. We're
[33:26]
building everything small now and it's
you know thousand square foot and under.
[33:31]
» Really?
>> Oh yeah. Wow.
[33:32]
» It's really pretty cool.
>> Too bad of the Victorian era would make
[33:36]
a comeback.
[33:40]
» I need it.
>> We'll just restore the ones we got.
[33:43]
» Gosh, I wish we could restore every
Victorian house.
[33:46]
» Same.
I just want to use my room if I'm like
[33:50]
» I mean same cuz the last big storm we
had we found quite the leak in our
[33:56]
laundry room.
>> Oh man. Well, they you know what's
[33:59]
funny? We found doing some houses around
here is um pretty much no foundation.
[34:06]
» Yep. Yep. I've got
>> zero foundation. They just built them
[34:10]
right on the dirt.
>> No, mine's on that ash.
[34:15]
» Oh, the fly ash.
Mine's 1890s house. My foundation is
[34:20]
pretty sure mine is probably too.
>> Yeah. Well, she's up the block for me.
[34:24]
So, yeah.
>> Yeah.
[34:25]
» And you know what? It's funny because
that stuff it it it looks great
[34:29]
» and
>> but I already got cracks.
[34:31]
» Oh, man. Cracks. And if you find a piece
that doesn't have stuckle on it,
[34:36]
» you can just take your fingernails and
>> Yeah. Yeah. My contractor took a look at
[34:40]
that and looked at me and goes, "No."
>> Yeah.
[34:43]
So, we had to figure out how to fix this
because you can't just
[34:47]
» glue them back together like you can
concrete block.
[34:50]
» So, we literally had to make a steel
sandwich and call it a girdle.
[34:53]
» Yep.
>> Around the whole corner. And basically
[34:56]
at that point, you're just filling, you
know, filling it in. What's structurally
[35:01]
supporting is is the steel underneath
the columns and the girdle. And that is
[35:05]
what's supporting.
>> I was told next earthquake.
[35:11]
Just wait for the next earthquake.
>> Couple months ago.
[35:15]
» All right. Thank you.
>> Thank you all very much.
[35:18]
» I'll get back with you on that.
>> Okay.
[35:20]
» Uh moving on to item five, items for
discussion. Bond tool.
[35:27]
» I have sent this over to my mom and Miss
Hill's lovely husband has it as well. Um
[35:34]
» only question I have for you guys, we
had talked about the dates. You could do
[35:37]
the Halloween weekend
>> that. So, we were um my mom brought up
[35:42]
she was worried about doing the 31st a
because if they do the
[35:46]
trick-or-treating, the roads are going
to be closed.
[35:49]
» Yeah.
>> So, that is going to cause a problem. Um
[35:53]
if we do, she was wondering if you guys
want to do it the Saturday before or the
[35:57]
Friday before Halloween. Do Friday night
and then do that Saturday that you guys
[36:02]
wanted to do before cuz that's I think
you guys said the 24th. I mean, he could
[36:06]
date, but I'm not going to be able to do
anything. I've got somebody coming in
[36:09]
and it's also milking.
>> Well, my mom said she's willing to do
[36:12]
both nights. She has no problems with
that. I She said I misunderstood her.
[36:16]
» I'm not going to argue with my mom cuz I
all the time. So,
[36:20]
but she said she's fine with doing both
days, especially since we're doing the
[36:23]
trolley. She said that's her not walking
around. She's fine with that then.
[36:27]
» Okay.
>> Um, are we wanting to do the Friday or
[36:30]
you guys still want to do the Saturday?
I'll do Halloween. She's just she's
[36:33]
worried because if they do the safe
trick-or-treating that's going to block
[36:36]
all the roads.
>> Well, you just if you do it on
[36:38]
Halloween, you do it after
>> trick trick-or-treating as well and
[36:41]
done.
>> Yeah. Well, and then she said that would
[36:43]
be fine, but she said I guess a lot of
the bars are doing karaoke and
[36:48]
she didn't know if parents were going to
want to do that at night on Halloween.
[36:52]
» I'm not doing karaoke.
>> We're doing haunted house. That's what
[36:55]
we'll be doing.
>> Yeah, you guys are doing the haunted
[36:56]
house. She wasn't sure if we're going to
get a big turnout if we do Halloween.
[37:01]
Actual Halloween.
>> We did Halloween last year, right?
[37:04]
» No, we did it the weekend before. We did
it the week before and the week before
[37:08]
that.
>> I thought we did one on Halloween.
[37:11]
» You did the one year that
>> You did it the one year you did it.
[37:15]
Yeah.
>> So that was the year before.
[37:17]
» Yeah. We've been doing this so many
years.
[37:19]
» This will be the third year.
>> Oh my god.
[37:22]
I think we'll I think we
>> we've grown it each year cuz the first
[37:25]
year we did it just Halloween. We only
did the one tour.
[37:29]
» I think he will get people to show up on
Halloween night.
[37:32]
» So, if you wanted to do we can't she
said she's fine. She's just she was more
[37:35]
worried because she's like
>> she was looking around with things to do
[37:39]
because my sister's coming in and she
said that she saw a lot of flyers and
[37:43]
she was kind of surprised. Normally we
don't have a lot of stuff going on for
[37:45]
Halloween.
>> Do it Friday night then. I'm I'm fine
[37:47]
with that.
>> It's up to you guys. She just wanted She
[37:50]
brought it up as a suggestion. She
wanted to see what you guys wanted to
[37:52]
do. She's like she's up for whatever you
guys
[37:54]
» I just think if Where's the trick or
treat? Down Main Street Main Commercial.
[37:59]
» So, wouldn't that be like ideal for them
to do that and then be like, "Oh,
[38:02]
there's a haunted tour.
>> We just got to limit the trolley."
[38:06]
» We got a lot less traffic right after
trick-or-treating than I thought we
[38:11]
would.
>> Did you?
[38:12]
» Yeah.
>> I think right after trick-or-treating,
[38:14]
especially parents are exhausted. It
just didn't
[38:17]
» Well, because people do it downtown and
they drive and then they go to the
[38:22]
neighborhood.
>> Yeah. That's when they take the kids to
[38:24]
cuz I mean that's what I do. I take I
take my kids to Well, my kids go
[38:30]
I sit.
They're old enough. They go on their
[38:34]
own. But then we drive them to an area
and then drop them off so they can
[38:38]
actually trickor treat.
>> So that's the only thing I'm worried
[38:40]
about is that right after they do the
safe trick because it is on a Saturday.
[38:44]
That means there's no school, there's no
nothing holding them up. They're going
[38:47]
to do that and they're going to go
regular trick-or-treating
[38:49]
» and go.
>> So, I think we probably could do it on
[38:51]
Halloween.
>> Yeah.
[38:53]
» What time does that say
trick-or-treating?
[38:55]
» I see. The thing is I'm not sure cuz
we're doing it or not doing it.
[39:00]
» I know you guys kind of did confuse me
on that front.
[39:04]
» Will DD be wearing costume? Cuz I'll
have like a costume that I'm going to
[39:07]
wear for the haunted house, too. So,
>> it's it's like I said, she was the one
[39:11]
that suggested the Friday before, but
she thought the Saturday before like we
[39:15]
were going to do the 24th. She said
that's awesome. I She thinks we'll get a
[39:17]
lot of people for that one. Do the
Saturday and then the Friday the
[39:21]
following week for
>> It sounds like Friday might be a better
[39:23]
option.
>> Sure.
[39:26]
» We can get everybody.
>> I don't care.
[39:29]
» He's like, I don't care.
>> Well, if we wait till after
[39:31]
trick-or-treating, I don't want to have
like a low turnout because everyone's
[39:34]
off doing their other stuff. more hot
chocolate.
[39:38]
» Well, so that's another question. Are we
still wanting to start at History
[39:42]
Colorado still?
>> No, we're going to start at um
[39:47]
» and that's going to be the big issue
>> if we do safety locked off.
[39:52]
» No, if we do the trolley
that seats 30 people,
[39:57]
» it drop them off at the haunted house
afterwards.
[40:00]
» No, he he's talking about he's going to
limit us.
[40:04]
I mean, all these places are very close.
>> Why couldn't you just walk?
[40:13]
» Terabino in is a little off.
>> Terabino's pretty high up a hill.
[40:17]
» Yeah.
>> Not too far. It's just on second
[40:21]
» and the and the firehouse one.
>> Are you going I don't Are you I think
[40:27]
you might have those mixed up. Are you
thinking Firehouse 2? Is are you
[40:30]
thinking the one on Nevada or you
thinking the one on Santa Fe?
[40:34]
What did I write down?
>> You wrote you wrote
[40:38]
» you wrote Firehouse one, but everybody
assumes that the one on Nevada is
[40:43]
Firehouse One, and it's not. That's
actually Firehouse 2, too.
[40:46]
» Yeah.
>> The one that's the one that's on Yeah.
[40:49]
Nevada.
>> It's close.
[40:50]
» Okay. Then that's
>> This is the one commercial.
[40:53]
» The commercial.
>> Yeah.
[40:54]
» Oh, we're thinking about Never mind. My
>> Old City Hall, right?
[40:57]
» That's Old City Hall.
[41:02]
So, does your mom want to do all of it
or do you want to put Tim on the hook
[41:06]
for anything?
>> Well, what's up? What's Tim up wanting
[41:09]
to do?
>> Well, he could do one.
[41:12]
» Well, I knew that he was also doing the
haunted house. You guys are doing the
[41:14]
haunted house, right?
>> Yeah, I'm doing the haunted house. He's
[41:16]
doing doors open, but I think that's
done like the first week of October.
[41:19]
» That's done the first week of October.
They reached out to me on that one.
[41:24]
» It's not in a play.
>> Okay. Well, let me check with her
[41:28]
because I don't want to get yelled out
again. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It's It comes
[41:32]
down to it, mom can have it.
>> I I looked at her, my dad looked at her,
[41:36]
my hus PJ, my husband looked at her, and
she's like, he's like, "That's not what
[41:39]
she was saying."
>> We'll have time before
[41:41]
» Yeah, we'll have enough time. Um, we'll
have one more meeting before the events
[41:46]
any either way. But, uh, I just want And
then checking times. Are we wanting to
[41:50]
do last year we did one early, one in
the later? Um, I saw we had more turnout
[41:56]
for the one in the later. I like
>> Do we want to make them RSVP again?
[42:00]
» Yeah, we need to
>> especially if we're using the trolley
[42:03]
because it's limited space.
>> It's got to be RSVP.
[42:05]
» Okay, RSVP. I'll get the flyers
together. Are So, we're want Are we
[42:09]
wanting both of them to be in the
evening?
[42:12]
» Yeah.
>> So, what are we looking at evening?
[42:16]
Cuz my evening and everybody else's
evening might be different.
[42:21]
» Huh?
>> 6:30.
[42:22]
» I'd say 7.
>> 7.
[42:24]
» Want to do both? 7:00 both
>> cuz that way everyone's had time to like
[42:28]
» Well, but if we do two two in a in a
day, you'd need an early one.
[42:33]
» Mhm.
>> So, we would do a total of four.
[42:36]
» You want to do four different shows?
>> I think I think we we at least put it
[42:40]
out there.
>> Okay.
[42:41]
» And how long is the tour going to take
you?
[42:45]
» An hour.
>> Hour. Probably
[42:47]
» took about an hour. It took about almost
two hours with the walking with the
[42:52]
trolley. I think it's going to lower it
to about an hour.
[42:56]
» Mhm.
>> Do we spend if my if she I'll have her
[42:59]
She'll walk through it when she's been
walking through it with her head.
[43:03]
» And are we all getting out of the
trolley?
[43:05]
» No.
>> So, she'll tell the story in the trolley
[43:09]
» probably.
>> I think you stay in the trolley.
[43:11]
» So, the whole event is just in the
trolley.
[43:14]
» I think so.
>> Cuz they have the It's got the speaker.
[43:18]
» Yeah.
>> So, she can actually She's loud enough.
[43:22]
But
>> Yeah. The only thing is
[43:22]
» she did so good last time.
>> Like I said, she's loud.
[43:27]
» When it's dark, sometimes you can't see
out the window.
[43:30]
» I I can usually hear her down the block.
So,
[43:33]
» you get onto the sidewalk. But I mean,
>> the window.
[43:37]
» Yeah. But it's like if it's cold or
something like that, but yet it was just
[43:41]
like last year when we went on the
>> Christmas lights tour, I was like
[43:45]
noticing like I can't see anything
unless we're like right up next to it
[43:48]
and there's lights.
>> That's going to be another thing. If
[43:51]
we're doing it at 7:00, it's going to be
dark.
[43:53]
» Yeah.
>> You'll have to ask your mom that, too.
[43:56]
If she wants to get out of
>> if she wants everybody to get out or get
[43:59]
her stay in.
>> So, if we're doing two shows, we're
[44:02]
going to do what? One at seven and then
one at
[44:06]
We don't want too big of a space.
>> I would assume five.
[44:10]
» You want to do five? Five and one. Five
sounds good.
[44:13]
» All right. So, then she probably I'll
check with her to see if she wants to do
[44:16]
both. She might want to split it and
have your husband do one day and her do
[44:19]
one day. Okay.
>> So, five and seven.
[44:21]
» I think five and seven. That gives
enough time for us to do the chore, come
[44:25]
back, drop them off, and then pick up
the next load.
[44:27]
» And we're doing hot chocolate like in
the
[44:29]
» We did hot chocolate.
>> Cider.
[44:32]
» Well, I think we did both.
>> I think we did both last time, but that
[44:35]
was with History Colorado. So, I'll
check with
[44:38]
» cider with shots of like hot days.
>> What's the
[44:42]
We have to get a liquor license to do
that.
[44:45]
» We can do donations. I think you only
need to look at like
[44:49]
the assistant.
>> You're giving it away.
[44:52]
» Donations.
>> It depends on who's on those days of
[44:56]
working. It'll either be Victor or
>> Victor. Is Victor running it?
[44:59]
» Victor runs it on.
>> So, it's just going to be the Friday.
[45:04]
» The Friday before
>> before. Okay.
[45:07]
» And then
>> so the 23rd. Is that the 23rd? I thought
[45:10]
it was the 24th. Did I have the wrong
date? The 24th is a Saturday.
[45:13]
» So, the 23rd and the 30th. I think we're
doing the 24th because we're doing the
[45:17]
Saturday and the Friday, right?
>> So, we're doing it a Saturday and a
[45:19]
Friday.
>> Okay.
[45:20]
» So, Saturday and the Friday
>> I think that would be best because
[45:23]
that's going to get everybody Yeah,
that's going to get everybody on a
[45:25]
Saturday for the weekend and then on the
Friday we can get people who are
[45:29]
» and then two tours each night at 5:00
and 7. Gotcha.
[45:32]
» Yep.
>> Okay. So, the 23rd and the 24th.
[45:34]
» Yep.
>> No, the 24th and the 30th.
[45:37]
» 24th and the 30th.
>> Right. Right. Right. Okay.
[45:42]
» Oh my god.
and I'll get the I'll get a a or I'll
[45:47]
get a flyer ready and send it out to you
guys so you guys can vote by email since
[45:52]
I'm going to need to get it out before
our next meeting.
[45:54]
» So, just checking. We're having one tour
on the 30th.
[45:59]
» Two tours both days.
>> Don't do this to me. People have
[46:05]
» four AND SIX.
>> FOUR, FIVE, and seven. People,
[46:10]
you're going to make mess up. The wire
is going to be all jacked up. It's going
[46:13]
to be all your faults.
>> Telling you, it's going to be all your
[46:17]
faults.
>> Um, for the RSVP
[46:21]
» Mhm.
>> would it be possible for you to ask
[46:25]
people if they want to join a mailing
list
[46:27]
» so we can start to compile this?
>> Yeah, we can.
[46:31]
» Yeah.
>> Is there a calendar, too?
[46:34]
» Yes. Good job.
>> Yeah.
[46:37]
» And we'll make sure we have a sign in
sheet when we get there. Yeah,
[46:41]
» that way we're covered cuz that was
that's a good idea. Much much much much.
[46:46]
» Any more on the haunted tour?
>> Uh, we need to vote. That's the locking
[46:50]
in those dates, people.
>> Yeah.
[46:52]
» Do I have a motion to lock in the dates
for the hunt?
[46:55]
» Motion.
>> I have a motion. Do I have a second?
[46:57]
» I'll second.
>> We have a second to have a vote.
[47:00]
» Derek,
>> yes.
[47:01]
» Matthew,
>> yes.
[47:02]
» Lisa,
>> yes.
[47:03]
» Amber,
>> yes.
[47:04]
» Hill,
>> yes.
[47:05]
» All right.
>> One last thing. Uh, Lisa, will you go
[47:09]
ahead and just add those? Do we need to
add these historic details to the script
[47:13]
or
did you already send them?
[47:15]
» I I I sent it as she as Lisa sent that
copy.
[47:18]
» Okay, cool.
>> Cool. Never mind then.
[47:23]
» And I will let you know that I believe
my mom might have
[47:27]
added.
>> Sure. I don't care
[47:30]
» where where the bullet points is. She
like
[47:33]
put in
>> all right. She did what she did last
[47:37]
year. So,
>> works for me.
[47:40]
» Okay.
>> 5B train research update.
[47:44]
» All right, people. So, we've had m um I
put in the packet which was not when I
[47:49]
mailed it or emailed it to you. This is
afterwards cuz they were here this
[47:52]
weekend. So, they were here Saturday,
Sunday um from 8 to 5 both days um going
[47:59]
over the train, back and forth in the
train and everything. As you can see
[48:03]
from the list, we had um a machinist,
mechanics,
[48:07]
uh we had a boiler maker, we have
logistics and historians here. They're
[48:12]
going to give us a report on all their
suggestions on how to prevent any more
[48:18]
decay and how to preserve it.
>> Mhm.
[48:21]
» Um and any corrections we need to do to
bring it back up to restoration. Um, on
[48:26]
that note, Derek brought up, so
originally we were going to do a grant
[48:30]
to try to restore Kit Carson Park.
I, and Derek is the one that brought it
[48:36]
up. We thought maybe possibly we want to
switch that to the grant, a grant to
[48:41]
restore the train
uh, after we get the information from
[48:46]
the restoration
>> because the grants are competitive,
[48:49]
» very competitive. So having a report
from historians might help boost our
[48:54]
options on getting more.
>> So we have a better option.
[48:57]
» We have a better choice than doing
>> although was was the band shelter
[49:03]
donated by the Sisters of the American
Revolution or just the park?
[49:08]
» I'm not sure. We'd have to do some
research on that part. We haven't done a
[49:11]
lot of research on it. We hadn't started
yet because we hadn't landmarked it
[49:15]
» or Daughters of the American. I'm sorry.
We'd have to look to see what
[49:18]
information we have on it. Just a Oh
man, we lost our historian at the
[49:23]
library.
>> Oh man,
[49:25]
» he would have been the best.
>> So, I've got a question.
[49:29]
» Mhm.
>> Why
[49:32]
Why would we be going after the same
grants?
[49:35]
» So, History Colorado does a grant in
October. It is a um highly competitive
[49:42]
grant for
restoration and it is like the highest
[49:49]
cost value. Okay.
>> We get the most for that one. We can get
[49:52]
micro ones year round.
>> Could we look for a different source for
[49:56]
the I feel like the train
>> we might be able to get and that's one
[50:00]
thing that they're going to provide too
and I that is an option. um when she
[50:04]
does give us the report, she said that
there will be um suggestions on where to
[50:10]
get funding too.
>> And they say that there were grants
[50:12]
specifically available for projects like
this.
[50:16]
» I'll ask Jennifer,
>> right?
[50:18]
» Yeah. Amrak or something.
>> Yeah, I can ask Jennifer.
[50:22]
» It was just a suggestion just because we
were looking cuz I'm I'm going to be
[50:25]
hitting the date for putting the letter
of intent out for the grant and I needed
[50:30]
to make sure I finalized which direction
we were going to go. So, do we do we
[50:35]
need to vote on that next meeting or
>> Yeah, we would have to vote on the next
[50:38]
meeting because I I think it's at the
end of October is my letter of intent I
[50:43]
have to give it.
>> Okay. I'd like to know if there's other
[50:45]
places that I could have sworn they said
that there were
[50:48]
» I can check specific to this that were
available.
[50:51]
» Yeah. And
nobody took Tom's place over there.
[50:56]
» Not yet.
>> Siobhan,
[50:58]
» did she?
>> Yeah.
[50:59]
» I wasn't sure if she'd gotten in yet.
that that is a whole different world
[51:04]
over there from where I'm
>> if the ban if the shelter was donated.
[51:08]
» I can ask I can email over and see what
I can get some information.
[51:11]
» If it was I'm sure we could look to them
for funding
[51:15]
» probably. They probably like it if we
can restore it.
[51:18]
» Yeah.
>> And I'm thinking for the the train stuff
[51:22]
having Chris spearhead that would be
great because he knows the most about
[51:29]
the train. He's enthusiastic about it.
So if we can help him,
[51:34]
» he can do the heavy lifting and we can
do the band shelter.
[51:37]
» Every time you say that, I just think of
him on a calendar.
[51:45]
» The next time I see you, I I'll throw
that idea to
[51:55]
cal
itself, bro. IT WOULD
[52:02]
I I WILL REACH out to them um and see
also on the U time frame on how long
[52:07]
it's going to take for us to get the
report for her too. Like I said, they
[52:10]
were here all weekend. So, poor things
got caught in the in the rain.
[52:14]
» Mhm.
>> On Saturday.
[52:16]
» All right.
>> Any more on that or
[52:18]
» No, that's it.
>> Item C, historical markers grant update.
[52:23]
» Good news.
>> You guys read the email. We got four of
[52:27]
ours got pushed forward out of the nine
that I put in. Um,
[52:34]
Baka House, the Fox West Theater,
Waterworks, and the library. I am
[52:39]
surprised though on which ones didn't
get chosen.
[52:42]
» Me, too.
>> City Hall didn't get chosen. The First
[52:44]
National Bank didn't get chosen.
>> Crazy.
[52:47]
» I was very surprised on those two. Um
but um as evident with they were not
[52:52]
happy I guess with my suggestions on
what to put on the markers.
[52:59]
They said I wasn't um
they want more narrative, not
[53:05]
informative.
I put down like what year that building
[53:10]
got made and like who made the building.
And
[53:13]
» they want more history.
>> More story. I guess they want more story
[53:16]
cuz they gave two suggestions for the
Baka House. Um cuz Margie sent these
[53:21]
over. Um and I'm wondering if that's why
the Baka House got chosen
[53:28]
cuz I think Margie was in contact with
the one of the people that were on the
[53:32]
committee.
But uh so and then I also have to get
[53:37]
they want pictures on um
where the marker is exactly like I had
[53:43]
to put in like uh geo points
>> really in the first initial one.
[53:49]
» This time they want an actual picture
with me to draw it into where it's going
[53:52]
to be at. So
>> okay
[53:54]
» my my building inspector's helping me
with that one.
[53:59]
So I'll have that stuff sent in. Um,
Margie also already sent me over the one
[54:03]
for the Baka House with a picture of
where they wanted it. So,
[54:07]
» um, I'll have that sent over, but I just
wanted to give you guys the good news
[54:10]
that four of ours were chosen for the
next wave. So, that's kind of cool.
[54:13]
» That's awesome.
[54:16]
» Um,
[54:20]
anything else in the sister city, uh, DD
sister city information? I g I did some
[54:30]
more deep dive on this for you guys. Um,
this is an actual like how you would
[54:36]
choose which city.
>> Oh, nice.
[54:40]
» And I have an idea. Of course I do.
[54:45]
» So say
we're so surprised.
[54:51]
» Well, let's hear Carbondale, Illinois.
Because that's where the Rat brothers
[54:56]
came from. Actually,
that would not be a
[55:01]
» It's not It's not Lisa in Switzerland,
though.
[55:04]
» It's not what
>> Liser in Switzerland.
[55:06]
» No, it's not. But
yeah, that makes sense.
[55:11]
» You could do both international or
national. It's not there's no limit on
[55:15]
which way you go. Um, really it's you're
wanting a place that you can do
[55:21]
historical change
>> or exchange information
[55:25]
» like come look at our buildings.
>> Yeah. And we'll go look at your
[55:28]
buildings pretty much. Um, the first
time I searched for
[55:32]
» definitely needed to be international.
>> That's right. We want to go to
[55:34]
Switzerland.
>> I'm kind of on hills too RIGHT NOW.
[55:42]
CANNOT choose international just because
you want to go international.
[55:47]
» Well, fine. That's not my official
reason.
[55:52]
» Funding might be a problem there.
>> So, we'll just look over this
[55:58]
information.
>> Yeah. I I provided for you guys to look
[56:01]
at it and maybe you guys can do some
more research on your end on seeing if
[56:04]
you guys can find some more that we can
bring forward. Um maybe possibly next
[56:10]
year we can pick out a city to reach out
to.
[56:13]
» Actually that's a really good idea.
[56:19]
» And then um is that all on that?
>> Yep.
[56:25]
» I have a paper here. I don't know what
it's for. It's not on the agenda.
[56:28]
» Which one?
>> The letter of support for the Holy
[56:32]
Trinity.
>> Oh, that's the last one. You're skipping
[56:35]
skipping calendars.
>> Yeah. Oh, that's
[56:38]
» Yeah, we have calendars.
>> I know. I'm saying I don't know what
[56:42]
this is for.
>> Oh, uh, that's because I got it's on on
[56:44]
the agenda. It got added in later and
it's going to be on the reports.
[56:48]
» Okay. I was just saying I was just
making sure that I didn't have to sign
[56:52]
that or
>> you No, you're going to have to sign it
[56:54]
if you guys vote on it, but it'll have
to be reports cuz
[56:57]
» All right. Um
5A or 5e calendars.
[57:05]
So, I wrote I made up a very rough
draft. Uh, so we can pick buildings that
[57:11]
we wanted to go take pictures of. We
need a limit for somebody.
[57:22]
» So, how are we going to do that? Like
next year,
[57:26]
» if we going to do the same buildings,
just different.
[57:30]
We could change it year to year, but uh
we want if we're wanting to, we need to
[57:34]
get this rushed out. We'll have to have
the pictures by October.
[57:38]
» Yeah. ASAP.
>> So that we can send them in by November
[57:40]
so we can get them in by December so we
can sell them in December. So taking
[57:44]
pictures.
>> Where's the
[57:45]
» This is what I propose. Everyone that we
um landmarked should be on here.
[57:52]
» Uh yes. Well, we haven't landed 12.
>> Well, I know, but like
[57:56]
» Okay, we can start with our land. start
with our landmark building
[58:00]
» because we have the historical
information. We have historical pictures
[58:04]
and it just makes sense.
>> We don't have 12.
[58:06]
» Not we have not land March 12
>> and it can kind of be like
[58:10]
» close in the 3 years.
>> No.
[58:14]
» How many have
>> I lied? We've land marked 13.
[58:19]
» I was about to say.
>> So that would actually be as of Eagles
[58:24]
will be 13.
>> Yeah, that's true.
[58:25]
» So then the Eagles should be on here
somewhere. That's next year.
[58:32]
» I'm just kidding.
>> You want to like do the them in the
[58:36]
current state though cuz you know
>> Well, no, cuz one of the suggestions was
[58:39]
to do a before and or like
Yeah.
[58:45]
» So, we would need to make sure
>> it's not going to look awesome until
[58:49]
» they look bad now though.
>> I think they rebuilt the corner.
[58:53]
» Yeah.
>> There's a serious problem in Trinad. Do
[58:57]
they ever drive vehicles through
buildings seems to be a common trend?
[59:06]
» They say you don't drive like very fast.
>> The Loves got hit already. No
[59:12]
» already
>> like literally after they opened
[59:16]
» like in the drive-thru or No, like the
parking lot like go over the
[59:21]
» They had to like go around to get to it.
No, they they ran into the building. Um
[59:26]
San Isabel
>> St. Isabel's building original building
[59:29]
got hit.
>> What?
[59:31]
» The house on 501 short. Somebody
literally went through it.
[59:35]
» What did Rick James say?
[59:42]
» Cocaine.
>> So So
[59:46]
» yeah, that's kind of what I was
>> for the cover. I was thinking either
[59:52]
like either Fischer's Peak, Simpsons
Rest, or our new signs that are on
[59:57]
either end of the city as you're driving
in.
[1:00:00]
» I think
>> something that says Trinidad. That's
[1:00:02]
what I was thinking.
>> Fisher's Peak on the front, Simpsons
[1:00:06]
Rest on the back.
>> The Simpsons Rest says Trinidad.
[1:00:10]
» Yeah. So, I would say reverse that.
>> Yeah.
[1:00:14]
» But which one's more iconic?
>> Fisher's Peak gets too much love.
[1:00:19]
It's just gets too much love.
>> It does.
[1:00:22]
» How about prospect point? Just kidding.
>> Like gets no love.
[1:00:28]
» That does get no love.
[1:00:32]
» I like Simpsons on the front. Yeah.
>> So Simpsons dress and then Fisher's Peak
[1:00:38]
on the back.
>> So are we doing 14 now instead of
[1:00:42]
» Yes, I guess so. Cuz it got
>> Well, usually like on the back it's like
[1:00:47]
here's all the holes. That's what we
talked about last time was yeah doing
[1:00:51]
like a collage.
>> Well that's we should have if for the
[1:00:56]
landmarks we will if we use only
landmarked
[1:00:59]
» and I have a lot now because I work at
the museum in the archives. So um we can
[1:01:05]
get fresh ones.
>> Do we find a place to print these?
[1:01:08]
» Uh I reached out to three different
ones. I got one in New Mex Raton cuz
[1:01:14]
they've printed for us before Cedar
Cedar printing here. Um I'm waiting for
[1:01:21]
emails back from them.
>> Okay. Yeah, I would need to know what
[1:01:24]
size and everything.
>> Well, we need I need also they were
[1:01:26]
wanting information that I did not have
cuz how many do we want?
[1:01:30]
Um
>> how many calendars?
[1:01:32]
» Yeah, how many calendars do we want?
>> Have you done calendars before?
[1:01:35]
» No. Okay. But
[1:01:41]
» um
if we had that email list, that'd be
[1:01:44]
nice.
>> We have the email list for people
[1:01:49]
register for a little bit.
>> Well, if we're going to we can sell them
[1:01:52]
and we can also um welcome center could
sell them or um even space to create
[1:01:58]
could sell them for us.
>> Could you get a quote for 100, 200, and
[1:02:02]
300? Yeah,
>> because typically the more we print the
[1:02:07]
cheaper it'll get.
>> Yeah, probably put them on consignment
[1:02:09]
up at like and stuff too.
>> Well, yeah, we get one obviously
[1:02:17]
» the the art museum, whatever.
>> Yeah, put them on consignment at these
[1:02:22]
places.
>> Don't sell them to
[1:02:24]
» Yeah.
>> Mutiny
[1:02:26]
would sell.
>> That's why I'm saying we there's a
[1:02:28]
possibility. I mean, we could sell them,
get them some most of our money back,
[1:02:31]
and maybe even make a little
>> Yeah. which will make my boss very happy
[1:02:34]
after this weekend.
[1:02:38]
» Next year it's yours.
>> We gota call yours.
[1:02:42]
» We gota call Chris. That's it.
>> So if we want to do it technically we
[1:02:49]
have 12 landmarked if we don't count
eagles since we have 13 we do eagles.
[1:02:54]
I'll have to look back and see which
ones we some
[1:02:58]
like so Arizona
>> and 101 pine. I don't know if we want
[1:03:03]
them to be
>> They're not in very good condition now.
[1:03:07]
» Yeah.
>> But that's okay. That's real. It's real.
[1:03:11]
» One of them is boarded up.
>> Yeah.
[1:03:15]
» So, like if we take those
>> how beautiful this building used to be.
[1:03:19]
» Beautiful.
>> We want the ones that are like flipped.
[1:03:23]
» We only land marked those two. Those are
the only two that are landmarked on that
[1:03:26]
corner.
>> Just the one unit. No, we have No, cuz
[1:03:31]
they're two separate buildings. So,
>> yeah. Which one is the the one that's
[1:03:35]
» we did? We didn't landmark that one.
>> No, because it's not owned by the same
[1:03:38]
owner.
>> It's a different owner.
[1:03:43]
» Okay. So, we can go with the buildings
that we've landmarked that have good
[1:03:46]
current.
>> Okay. Firehouse.
[1:03:49]
» So, so that would give us that would
give us
[1:03:52]
» 12.
>> No. Well, no, cuz if we put Eagles in
[1:03:54]
there, that will give us
>> Yeah.
[1:03:56]
» 11.
>> So, firehouse number one.
[1:03:59]
Eagles Hall.
Um,
[1:04:03]
» the theater. Fox Theater.
>> We have Fox Theater. Library.
[1:04:10]
» Should we do the train?
>> City Hall. Oh, that one is landmarked.
[1:04:14]
» That's one of the libraries.
>> We should do the train. The water parks
[1:04:17]
building.
>> That one's not in very good.
[1:04:19]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah.
[1:04:24]
» Is it tatted or tatted up? Is it tagged
up? It's tagged up and boarded up right
[1:04:29]
now.
>> We should do City Hall. City
[1:04:32]
» I got City Hall, The Train, the Library
of Fox, Eagles, the Um, so that would be
[1:04:37]
that gets us to June.
>> June's the next one.
[1:04:42]
Um, Tom Murphy.
>> Yeah. Ba House. You got that?
[1:04:50]
» Well, Ba House isn't landmarkked, is it?
>> It's not one of our landmarks. Temple
[1:04:55]
Aaron.
>> Temple Aaron. Yeah,
[1:04:56]
» because Temple Aaron is nationally
landmarked,
[1:04:59]
» though not locally landmarked.
>> Isn't that the annex?
[1:05:03]
» I was surprised on that one.
>> The annex
[1:05:05]
» not landmarked.
>> What about the first Methodist?
[1:05:09]
» None of the churches
>> cuz it's got a landmark or something on
[1:05:12]
there.
>> It's possibility that it's n or not.
[1:05:15]
It's it's historically
nominated.
[1:05:19]
» Okay.
>> Yeah.
[1:05:21]
» Contributed is what they're called.
They're contributing.
[1:05:24]
» We have six
[1:05:28]
First National Bank.
>> Oh yeah.
[1:05:33]
» I'm always an advocate for school
district 1 and this year is our 160th
[1:05:39]
anniversary. So
>> I was at 160 when the town is 150.
[1:05:44]
» Yep. Exactly. But it IS
>> when started it before it WAS A TOWN.
[1:05:53]
I'M DOING THE MATH IN MY HEAD AND I'M
LIKE, OH,
[1:05:57]
» but that's a fact. 10 years before the
state became a state and the city turn
[1:06:02]
became
>> incorporated. Yeah.
[1:06:06]
» So, are we wanting to do one of the
churches?
[1:06:11]
» Isn't church schools
>> schools?
[1:06:13]
» Well, I'm always an advocate for school.
So, and I mean it has historic
[1:06:19]
significance. Why isn't it a landmark?
>> It's a wrap building.
[1:06:22]
» It's not. They've never come. The school
district is separate from them. They
[1:06:26]
don't even come with permit for us.
>> City. That's the state or
[1:06:29]
» It is a state handles all schools.
>> Could it be landmarked?
[1:06:34]
» Yeah. I don't see why not.
>> The building,
[1:06:37]
» but I can't do it.
>> It would have to be the school district
[1:06:39]
doing it. They'd have to pay for it
because that's By the way, I had to take
[1:06:44]
out to bid our plaques again because um
they went up $200. Oh.
[1:06:50]
Wow. Okay.
>> Last year was $800 a piece. This year
[1:06:53]
they're wanting $1,100.
>> We should just start our own
[1:06:56]
manufacturing company.
>> Right. Trinidad.
[1:07:00]
» So I put it out. So I haven't gotten the
plaque.
[1:07:04]
» We could go
>> that one just works is
[1:07:07]
» which one just got
>> the title abstract.
[1:07:10]
» We can go fix up the whole break.
>> And so yeah, I do want to use my school.
[1:07:15]
I'm sorry. It's going to be in December.
>> Okay. December is which school are you
[1:07:20]
wanting?
>> Trinidad Middle School.
[1:07:21]
» Middle school.
>> Can we?
[1:07:24]
» Why not?
>> What about that one in the college?
[1:07:26]
Isn't there's a plaque?
>> You're making the list.
[1:07:28]
» I know.
>> No, the the building the first building
[1:07:33]
in the college. That one has a plaque on
it.
[1:07:36]
» What does the plaque say, though?
>> No, it says that it was preserved.
[1:07:42]
» But preserved would not be landmark. But
we could still use it. I don't see why
[1:07:46]
not. The college is important to the to
the city. So yeah, let's do the college.
[1:07:50]
» I think the college is a good option.
>> Maybe we can push them to landmark one
[1:07:54]
of their buildings
>> like the Burke building.
[1:07:56]
» Yeah, exactly.
[1:07:59]
» And the the gentleman, the new president
is really open for
[1:08:03]
» Is he?
>> Yeah.
[1:08:04]
» Here's a fun fact also. When the college
was first first began in 1925, it was
[1:08:10]
housed at my school for the first 10
years.
[1:08:15]
» Hey, that was small. Wow. Yeah. So, more
significance.
[1:08:20]
» All right. So, we have Simpsons Rest for
the cover, Eagles for January, Fox for
[1:08:26]
February, Library for March, City Hall
for April, The Trade in May, uh Murphy's
[1:08:33]
Building in June, Temple Erin in July,
First National Bank for August, Baka
[1:08:39]
House for September, the Temple or Title
Abstract Building for October, the
[1:08:45]
College for November, and Middle School
for December on Lisa's vote.
[1:08:51]
Uh what was March again?
>> Okay, let's start go from the beginning.
[1:08:56]
» Simpsons Rest First,
>> Eagles for January.
[1:09:00]
» Okay. Fox Library, City Hall,
>> The Train for May, Tom Murphy's building
[1:09:09]
for June, Temple Aaron for July, First
National Bank for August, Baka House for
[1:09:15]
September, title abstract for October,
the college for November, and the middle
[1:09:20]
school for December.
>> Perfect.
[1:09:23]
» All right. So, we're going to need by
next meeting, we need pictures.
[1:09:31]
So, pretty much a mockup.
>> Okay. So, I have to be in class cuz
[1:09:36]
you're the graphic designer. Yeah.
>> So, I'll supply
[1:09:39]
» What's our next meeting?
October.
[1:09:48]
» Oh, crap. October 14th.
>> Okay. 14th.
[1:09:51]
» No. Uh, September is goofing us up. My
We're going to have urban renewal on the
[1:09:56]
ETH, so it'll be split for us. send them
before then.
[1:10:01]
» So, can am I allowed to send her things?
>> Yes, you can send one on one, just not
[1:10:06]
group.
>> Gotcha. Okay. So, I'll send you pictures
[1:10:10]
then and now and like a little brief
history.
[1:10:13]
» Yeah.
>> We don't want a lot on the cuz we're
[1:10:15]
wanting the pictures to be the boom,
>> but we do want to beformational history.
[1:10:20]
» So, blurp is okay.
>> Y Okay. So, pictures.
[1:10:24]
» So, Lisa, that's going to be hard for
you.
[1:10:27]
» It is.
[1:10:34]
shrink it down.
>> That's a two statement.
[1:10:38]
» Yeah, that doesn't mean
>> it doesn't mean itty bitty word or
[1:10:42]
privilege. Just less.
>> We don't go We don't go before 11.
[1:10:47]
» We don't have to use a magnifying glass
to see that. She put in a lot.
[1:10:52]
» It's so informative.
Actually,
[1:10:57]
we can just have the back just in there.
>> Next January. What a time.
[1:11:05]
» This is double. She's got She loves the
history, but she's also a teacher, so
[1:11:10]
» All right, moving on. Uh, new business
any
[1:11:14]
» Hey, I need you to vote on this one.
>> Oh, we need to vote.
[1:11:17]
» Yes.
>> On the calendar buildings. Yeah. On the
[1:11:20]
calendar. Yes.
>> Do I have a motion? I'll make a motion
[1:11:23]
to approve. Do I have a second?
>> I'll second.
[1:11:26]
» All right. Can we have a vote?
>> Yes. Let's see here. Derek,
[1:11:31]
» yes.
>> Matthew,
[1:11:33]
» yes.
>> Lisa,
[1:11:35]
» yes.
>> Amber,
[1:11:37]
» yes.
>> Hill,
[1:11:38]
» yes.
[1:11:43]
» Now, can we move on to new business?
[1:11:48]
» Can you have anything? Is that what this
letter? No, the letter is going to be in
[1:11:52]
reports because I couldn't add it to the
agenda because it was already out.
[1:11:55]
» Okay. I have no business. Anybody have
any business?
[1:11:58]
» All right. Moving on. Reports.
Chairperson report. Um,
[1:12:04]
so I want to know who's not going.
You're not going to the to the thing
[1:12:08]
with us, right?
>> WHAT?
[1:12:13]
» Are we interrogating them? Do you guys
like have something you want us to like
[1:12:18]
ask about or find out about or anything?
>> No.
[1:12:24]
» Cuz we're spending $1,000. We need to
come back.
[1:12:28]
» We have to come back a book report.
>> I trust you.
[1:12:31]
» 500 word minimum. That's right.
>> Well, like I want to know how to start
[1:12:36]
districts and stuff. That's what I want
to know. Well, I don't know if that's
[1:12:39]
going to be in this one, but it should
be something.
[1:12:42]
» I'm There's going to be people there who
I can ask.
[1:12:44]
» Yes,
>> that's that's my agenda. So,
[1:12:48]
» I don't know if y'all had anything y'all
wanted me to ask or anything.
[1:12:52]
That's all I wanted.
>> I don't trust you guys to go.
[1:12:56]
» All right. Uh, Commissioner
[1:13:00]
» Oh, I did um I I attended that section
106 changes u meeting that you sent out.
[1:13:08]
Um,
they didn't have a lot. I mean, they had
[1:13:11]
a lot to say, but it was basically just
the federal government is trying to
[1:13:14]
change section 106 to reduce input from
nonfederal entities. Um,
[1:13:26]
they said basically like during the
comment section, you can try and say
[1:13:30]
this is a bad idea.
They would only impact us if um
[1:13:37]
there was actually a section 106 project
that came through to impact Trinidad.
[1:13:41]
It's pretty unlikely, but you know that
>> affect us speaking that we're a home
[1:13:46]
rule.
>> Yes. So it's basically if there's so
[1:13:50]
like the interstate when that came
through that would be section 106.
[1:13:54]
» Okay.
>> It's it's anything that's invol federal
[1:13:57]
funding
>> 12 or I27 is supposed to go through
[1:14:00]
here. So if they're going to do
any significant changes,
[1:14:07]
» west to east instead of north to south.
>> Yeah. So
[1:14:11]
» So I27 is supposed to come this
direction.
[1:14:14]
» Nice. So we can go to Durango or
whatever
[1:14:17]
» supposedly. Depends on when it's going
to actually happen. If it does actually
[1:14:20]
happen. I'd rather have the train.
>> I'd rather have a train that is
[1:14:24]
supposedly coming this direction too.
>> You want the train so bad. The high
[1:14:29]
speed one or
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the one that goes
[1:14:31]
that's from Fort Collins that's going
down to PBLO.
[1:14:35]
» I still need a train that goes to Texas.
>> We've always No, I need my mom to be
[1:14:39]
able to ride it.
>> Well, that would be Would that be a 106?
[1:14:43]
» They you have to go up to come over and
back down. You cannot go from Texas
[1:14:49]
West.
>> The had to bring it here.
[1:14:51]
» Well, but if they use track is a federal
agency.
[1:14:55]
» Uh I looked at it pretty extensively. I
looked at the route too cuz I'm taking
[1:15:00]
it through.
>> So watch to see if that affects us cuz
[1:15:04]
it affects our district.
>> It goes like all through Texas. Sunset
[1:15:09]
limited
>> basically through.
[1:15:11]
» There's just nothing in Texas going
west. It just goes north
[1:15:14]
» cuz Sunset Limited goes from north to
>> So keep an eye out for that one. Then
[1:15:20]
» something else to watch for.
>> It's all Amra, but it's Yeah. You can
[1:15:23]
jump off and jump on.
>> Yeah. No.
[1:15:29]
» Sorry.
>> Something about people in Texas can't
[1:15:32]
drive.
>> My mom.
[1:15:33]
» Any Texan. Sorry. Not saying you do, but
>> you're not wrong.
[1:15:38]
» No. Yeah. You're not.
>> My My own son stopped driving for one
[1:15:42]
second. Pulled over just to let the row
of Texans go through cuz he got scared.
[1:15:46]
» That's reasonable.
>> Scared of Texas drivers.
[1:15:49]
» All right guys, last thing just before
cuz it'll be undermined. So this was
[1:15:52]
brought to me by Lisa and Laura Debat
for the church. They are looking for
[1:15:58]
restoration of the steeple
and they need our support. So I put a
[1:16:04]
letter together. Um we would need uh
Derek to sign it if he if we approve it
[1:16:09]
and I can give this over to Lauren
about. So, they're just asking for
[1:16:13]
support because they're going to go for
a grant to do this deep restoration,
[1:16:17]
which after seeing the bill that they
had to do for doing the pointing on that
[1:16:21]
church,
>> I'm sure them needing help.
[1:16:24]
» That's that's the one Mike was talking
about or
[1:16:27]
» No, it's the this steeple. They're
they're redoing Mount Carmel. That one's
[1:16:32]
already being redone, but this the the
Holy Trinity over here, the church,
[1:16:35]
» supposedly they're needing to do
restoration on the steeple.
[1:16:39]
» And they're going for a grant.
Yeah. Do I have a motion? You make a
[1:16:44]
motion to approve.
>> What's that?
[1:16:47]
» Vote.
>> All right. And so that's going to be um
[1:16:52]
Derek,
>> yes.
[1:16:54]
» Matthew,
>> Lisa,
[1:16:57]
» yes.
>> Amber,
[1:16:58]
» yes.
>> Hill,
[1:16:59]
» yes.
>> I didn't know you would say that. So,
[1:17:04]
» OBVIOUSLY, I'M NOT GOING FAST ENOUGH for
somebody.
[1:17:09]
» All right. Second.
[1:17:17]
» Second.
[1:17:22]
» This is the longest one we've had in a
while.
[1:17:23]
» Yeah, I know. I got a bell rehearsal
now.
[1:17:28]
» I I was like,
>> I'm being inducted on the board for
[1:17:31]
music.
Oh, no.
[1:17:40]
» Eric, I need your signature on this
before you go.
[1:17:42]
» Lisa, did she tell you how she needed it
sent to her? Do I need to scan it? Email
[1:17:46]
it to her or
>> I have an email and I'll just send I'll
[1:17:50]
just forward
>> Yeah, forward me the email.
[1:17:52]
» I have questions for you. I have a two.
