We will begin our work meeting today is Tuesday, August 18th. The time is 10.06, and we will
[0:09]
cause meeting to order and begin with roll call. You want to start, Kathleen?
[0:15]
Here, Kathleen,
[0:18]
She got here last time, I don't remember.
[0:24]
I'm on the green room, last year.
[0:27]
Brittany luck, principal.
[0:30]
And we'll get our blankets here.
[0:32]
Okay, so first thing we have is the consent agenda.
[0:38]
And that is the approval of last month's minutes
[0:41]
and the acknowledgement that you all received
[0:44]
the exact report I sent that last night
[0:46]
when she gave it to me.
[0:48]
So that's all right, but that is any questions on our consent agenda
[1:07]
It would have been three meals that you can't for me because she kept
[1:10]
sending me more stuff so I was like, I don't want to be too late. Have you getting it? So I just kept
[1:15]
sending it as I got it back to still time is crazy
[1:22]
Hello art will you state your name for roll call?
[1:31]
Thank you
[1:32]
minutes from last month's meeting and acknowledgement that you got the executive report. So we're just
[1:38]
see if there's any questions there.
[1:51]
Which one of the executive report would you want to go on?
[1:54]
Just that you received it. That's all Consent Agenda is. It's approval of minutes and that you
[1:59]
receive the executive report. We'll go over the executive report later. It's just that you
[2:06]
got it. Yeah. If no questions do we have a motion? Yeah. So art motions to approve the
[2:18]
consent agenda. Do we have a second? All
[2:24]
in favor. Raise your hand. Okay.
[2:31]
We don't have
[2:32]
any public here so we'll skip public comment. Financial budget reports bill's been out so I've
[2:37]
able to get those. So we will look over two months next month.
[2:44]
So I apologize for that.
[2:47]
So next month we'll have to look over July and August.
[2:53]
Okay, so let's get that one. All right.
[2:57]
Ben updated the coaches handbook and wanted you guys your approval. I think you can dentist it more.
[3:04]
Maybe art you can tell us more of the changes. You probably look at it more than I do.
[3:09]
Yeah, even more. It's pretty much the same as last year.
[3:16]
You want a copy of it?
[3:18]
Yeah.
[3:19]
A
[3:25]
lot of the changes I think were just on student participation that we talked about.
[3:32]
Okay.
[3:34]
Really on supervision of the kids who's emphasized on, you know, if there's a problem during
[3:46]
the game or with the parent, they just don't really stress that cool down 24 hour period
[3:52]
before decisions made like, but the kid wants to quit, you know, just don't quit now because
[4:03]
So they're going to stress that this year, so really try to convince the kid to keep their uniform and then come back tomorrow and let's talk to your parents and pack things.
[4:14]
Which I think will help clear up a lot of confusion in the office because we've had kids quit and then there's also a game.
[4:19]
Oh, I'm going, I'm going. I'm like, you're off the team. No, I talked to Coach. They let me back on.
[4:23]
and so we're just getting rid of that confusion
[4:25]
because then I'm calling trying to make sure
[4:28]
this kid's supposed to be going.
[4:30]
So it's gonna clear up that.
[4:32]
And plus it's gonna make kids not just
[4:34]
throw their jersey at their coaches,
[4:35]
they're returning their mat, I'm hoping.
[4:38]
So let me see if I can happen to leave you or somebody
[4:40]
besides they don't want to play the one
[4:43]
they couldn't even phone in that way
[4:44]
and then they want to play.
[4:50]
So that's mainly the updates in that.
[4:55]
And then just really stressed that the coaches are always with the kids until the last parent picks them up, so we've always been really good with that, so I don't think we've ever had a problem, but just to make sure that the parents know that they've got to pick their kids up tirelessly.
[5:12]
some time practices in at six o'clock in parents are picking up their kids to 6.45%
[5:18]
and so the coaches have seen extra hours.
[5:21]
Who are other coaches as of now?
[5:24]
Do you have them all?
[5:26]
Cross-country's art.
[5:29]
Basque and volleyball is a day for volleyball.
[5:33]
Is the head coach for both teams?
[5:37]
They may be getting a new assistant.
[5:39]
I think they're working on that for the boys and then steps the girls' assistant pretty
[5:45]
sure.
[5:48]
It was Walker, but Walker got too busy, so they had someone else and I've been was on
[5:56]
it.
[5:56]
I just have not gotten the name yet, but Dave's the head coach and art's head coach across
[6:05]
country.
[6:09]
Any questions on the handbook?
[6:11]
Look, it's not do we have an emotion?
[6:14]
Not emotion, too.
[6:18]
Okay.
[6:20]
All right.
[6:21]
All right.
[6:22]
All in favor.
[6:23]
Just raise your hand.
[6:26]
Okay.
[6:27]
Ben wanted approval to buy some athletic equipment.
[6:31]
He has his three quotes.
[6:34]
Totally with the smallest quote, it's going to be 6,000.
[6:38]
Everybody get a chance to look at that.
[6:41]
His uniforms, camera, the film description,
[6:44]
a ball cart and something else volleyball looks like any volleyballs. There's this
[6:52]
anybody wants to look at that?
[7:04]
The camera equipment that he put in for a little expensive for what it, but for what it does, it's worth it.
[7:14]
It's still the camera equipment that has come in for its automatic.
[7:18]
It follows the basketball, so once you program it, it'll follow the basketball, whether
[7:25]
that's the ball goes.
[7:25]
As soon as it goes, the camera will take real fast.
[7:27]
And it does keep up with the game in a lot.
[7:30]
And it has a program with it where it'll completely do your stats.
[7:38]
So whatever it is like basketball or football or baseball, it will do the stats automatically for you.
[7:44]
It will send it to you and you download it.
[7:47]
And I do the stats, I have to watch the game over.
[7:50]
And then I have to do the stats and I have to stop and it takes me like two hours per game to do the stats.
[7:55]
This will automatically do it for you.
[7:58]
You just convert it on your computer and five minutes you have your stats.
[8:02]
So that's a really good program, pretty much, if you go to most of the games, it's already
[8:09]
very useful.
[8:11]
Rather than have games that are on point, programs that are on point, they can just buy
[8:16]
the equipment out right away.
[8:17]
Like, keep putting it before.
[8:18]
It's much easier.
[8:21]
So it will be utilized for all the teams that are involved.
[8:23]
Yes, all of you all must go.
[8:26]
Cross-country for wanting to watch and run.
[8:29]
But if that's not, we don't need it for cross-country.
[8:31]
But you can't give you just pretty sports where there's a ball and ball.
[8:44]
Any questions on that?
[8:49]
We have a motion to approve the purchase of that equipment.
[8:54]
Should I have your communication?
[8:57]
I don't think so, because that's not time to do it.
[9:00]
I don't know.
[9:01]
I don't know.
[9:02]
You can't if you're a question.
[9:03]
I just do it.
[9:04]
Don't leave you out.
[9:05]
You can use it.
[9:06]
You can use myself and the two guys.
[9:08]
You can use myself and the two guys to go around.
[9:10]
Since you'll be using it.
[9:12]
Just because it benefits me.
[9:16]
The interest.
[9:19]
In case I don't want to run, it's going to be a useful, right word, like cost,
[9:32]
I mean
[9:35]
you.
[9:39]
Is it unique to uniforms?
[9:41]
Yeah.
[9:41]
How much do you have proofs?
[9:42]
How much do you have proofs?
[9:43]
How much do you have proofs?
[9:45]
How much do you have proofs?
[9:46]
How much do you have proofs?
[9:47]
How much do you have proof?
[9:48]
How much do you have proof?
[9:49]
I think I know yeah, we haven't had any cross-country in the homes in five years
[9:53]
They give us a tank, he'll just get us a tank top and a pair of shorts, but
[9:58]
This one he wants to have him in the mom, so that'd be awesome
[10:02]
So if you're a team up and running already, we've been in practice since July 23rd, I have five kids right now running
[10:10]
I'm going to do a first one next Sunday
[10:14]
Saturday, I'll say it Saturday
[10:16]
All Saturdays. I don't know where this one's at here. I just know that he said well our first name will be next Saturday, the 29th.
[10:23]
It's in Ogden, or on Houston, Salt Lake, somewhere on the area.
[10:28]
We run every Saturday, but we can rest seven weeks. We'll have six on schedule.
[10:33]
But we usually have one here and we usually wait to see where we can fit it in for the schedule.
[10:37]
So we usually run seven weeks for the first country.
[10:40]
Last year we took second.
[10:44]
Cool.
[10:46]
So let's vote. All in favor?
[10:50]
Okay.
[10:54]
Okay. Approval of the electronic device flyer.
[10:57]
So, other schools have been taking them in charging fees.
[11:00]
So, since we're not a fee school, the only thing I could think of instead of a fee
[11:04]
is if we have to take the phone a fourth time, they don't get their phone back until they meet with the board.
[11:12]
so it could be a day, could be three weeks? I don't know. We let them know that. We've
[11:19]
taken three phones so far and they all know that the next time a parent must be here,
[11:24]
the parent has to get back for me, they can't get it back for me at the end of the day. So
[11:29]
trying to make it to where it makes it a burden, so I don't have to deal with it. So
[11:35]
So I'm just going through the step.
[11:38]
One time is what?
[11:40]
They lose it and the kid gets it back from me at the end of the day.
[11:44]
Well, the office, because usually West holds on to them.
[11:46]
OK.
[11:47]
You can have this fire when we're done.
[11:49]
Second time, the parent has to get it back from me.
[11:53]
Oh, wait, there's a fire.
[11:54]
OK, that's what we're going to do back then.
[11:56]
Yeah, but you can have it.
[11:57]
As we've sent this out all to the tribunal,
[12:00]
I think we needed something for the back to school and we didn't meet yet.
[12:03]
Third time a parent has to meet with having an actual meeting with me to get it back and
[12:09]
I'll let them know, hey next time you have to meet with the board.
[12:13]
So I'm hoping we don't get to that step but just know you guys are involved if it does
[12:18]
get to that step, if you are fine with that.
[12:21]
Just trying to make it a little difficult for those and I'm assuming if they come to the board
[12:28]
or they won't be allowed that.
[12:30]
Well, probably you've had your chances,
[12:32]
you just don't, you can't have a phone
[12:33]
in school anymore.
[12:35]
And so, if they brought it, we said to put in a lot of box,
[12:38]
where they don't have it on them.
[12:39]
They obviously can't keep it on them and leave it alone.
[12:43]
So how's the first couple of days gone by?
[12:46]
Really good.
[12:47]
We've only had to take a couple.
[12:49]
And when I told them their parents come good,
[12:51]
they're like, really?
[12:53]
Like, yeah.
[12:54]
So don't, let me see it again.
[12:57]
The talking and the lunch is extreme, more kids are eating lunch because they're on their phones.
[13:05]
I didn't realize how many kids just skipped food so they could put on their phones.
[13:09]
Are they're eating? I've had up the lunch numbers and they're visiting and talking.
[13:15]
They're a little more playful and rough housing, so I have to watch them more.
[13:18]
So we had shut down this side of the school lunch, so they have to be in the comments
[13:22]
and I sit in the comments and watch them and then staff eat lunch with them. I sit
[13:28]
meet my lunch out here and watch. And then our teacher Megan has a quiet
[13:34]
room for those kids that just want quiet time at lunch and she sits in the
[13:38]
lunch with those kids. And then I have all the other classrooms locked down because I
[13:43]
told teachers, unless you're in your room, you cannot have your room open. It just
[13:48]
causes because first day they went into one of these classrooms the teacher was
[13:52]
in there I'm like that's a problem that's waiting to happen so we talked to
[13:56]
all the teachers and so they're all right here our numbers of eating our
[14:01]
cafeteria we got grown our cafeteria we had to bring in three of these tables and
[14:07]
chambers just to fit everyone yeah we're out we're out growing the building but
[14:14]
But here's the flyer cap.
[14:18]
Any questions on that?
[14:22]
Other schools are taking their phones all day and just keeping them.
[14:26]
To me, that's a lot of work trying to keep up with who's, if I gave the wrong one, it's
[14:29]
a liability.
[14:31]
I don't want to do that unless we get to that point.
[14:35]
I would prefer if they can leave it on them and not have it out.
[14:40]
That's going to be a nightmare for a big school.
[14:43]
Mm-hmm.
[14:43]
A lot of them have bought bags where you have to lock them in and lock them every day.
[14:47]
They put it in.
[14:50]
But this...
[14:50]
Wes and I said if it becomes a problem we might look into other schools are doing, but right now this seems to be working pretty well.
[14:59]
So...
[15:00]
It's been nice.
[15:04]
But we'll see. It's only the first week. But one good thing we have going for is it's every school is doing something. We in the make-do-shane counties flyer, except we added our different steps because theirs was pay-of-the, and we're fee-free school. So add a think of some other consequences that would make them not want to get to that step.
[15:30]
But we came up with
[15:33]
I'm open to suggestions if you don't like them, but that's where we, or at it's harder
[15:40]
for us since we can't take money because a lot of schools make the parents pay a fee
[15:44]
to help get them on their side, which I think you enter does the same.
[15:53]
Any questions on that?
[15:59]
The hopefully they'll improve their participation in class, for sure.
[16:06]
I'm sure it will, because now they don't have to focus on that.
[16:10]
So far, the new freshmen and the teachers are saying it really well.
[16:14]
A lot of teachers have cut back on the screens and do a more handwriting in class
[16:18]
and our language arts is trying, because that's what the state wants us to have less
[16:21]
screen time for kids. She started taking the screens away and just doing handwriting
[16:26]
and she said the handwriting is beautiful and so she says it's going well
[16:32]
far in her past.
[16:36]
No
[16:42]
questions do we have a motion to approve?
[16:51]
Okay so
[16:58]
we talked
[16:59]
about it and we'll see what you say. First we thought we'd need a male checker
[17:02]
or a tech film but we're keeping them. The part of this one is if we should if we
[17:09]
get to that point I don't know if we want to talk about it later we have to start
[17:12]
because I can't search a kid.
[17:14]
But we also talked about it whenever we have,
[17:17]
every time I have the drug dog,
[17:19]
the only thing I find is hunting knives.
[17:20]
So we do have kids bringing knives to school.
[17:23]
So if we get to that point, it becomes a problem.
[17:25]
We've considered purchasing a metal detector.
[17:28]
I don't know what your thoughts are on that,
[17:32]
but I don't know if we're to that point where we have to have it,
[17:37]
but we're getting there, I guess I could say.
[17:39]
Okay. It would help with vapes because they do detect the vapes.
[17:43]
Some metal detectors?
[17:45]
Mm-hmm.
[17:46]
Okay, they're not used right now.
[17:48]
No, we don't own one.
[17:49]
This is talking about purchasing one.
[17:51]
We don't own one.
[17:53]
And that would mean when they enter school,
[17:57]
they're kind of at all locations?
[17:59]
Mm-hmm.
[17:59]
And just be the front and we'd have to lock down the other doors.
[18:06]
Well, we're taking away the phones.
[18:08]
Follow their phones.
[18:12]
We had someone say, oh, what are we becoming?
[18:15]
What kind of school are there no homes?
[18:19]
We have to come through the electric detectors.
[18:23]
We said, what next?
[18:25]
Some of them.
[18:28]
We don't own them yet, but it would detect the vakes.
[18:31]
The vakes are our biggest issue.
[18:34]
We get deal or dealing.
[18:35]
I mean, I know who my dealers are.
[18:37]
hard to find them because you can't search them, but it does pick up those kind of things.
[18:44]
But I don't know what your thoughts are.
[18:48]
You can't search them if you...
[18:51]
I can't to an extent with someone in the room, but I mean my girls there in their broth,
[18:56]
I've had boys put in our man. I can't search to that extent, but if they went through this,
[19:01]
it would detect that something's on them. Okay, and if it got to that point, I probably
[19:06]
have to call law enforcement. So this would be used if like we suspected something we
[19:13]
make a kid go through it probably because they hide it so well. But it's something we
[19:19]
can bring up later too. It's not something I have to have to function but it's just a thought
[19:26]
because we've had a lot of vapes and I can't mind them on them but that would detect the the
[19:31]
in the middle of the vape.
[19:33]
I think there's a bathroom just in places where we know that they're sneaking off the vape.
[19:40]
The BC shut those down.
[19:42]
We did.
[19:44]
We did.
[19:45]
And that was another thing.
[19:46]
They were delayed and kids and parents were young.
[19:49]
That wasn't me.
[19:50]
That was another kid.
[19:51]
I was searching.
[19:52]
I can't find it.
[19:54]
And I was going to shoot out my parents and I was targeting their kid.
[19:59]
So that's kind of like the main concern for these.
[20:01]
Yeah, and then if a kid who couldn't lost their phone privileges, I'd make them walk through it because they're kind of like
[20:09]
You can put them anywhere. So if a kid that is not allowed to have a phone like they've lost all their privileges, then they would walk through it and
[20:17]
They'd have to that child
[20:19]
But I don't think I'd use it for every child
[20:22]
So it would be always for that we're kind of suspect.
[20:26]
I
[20:30]
have time to probably do it for every child unless it became a problem in the school
[20:35]
and we're having a lot of baby issues or something that might be like our random day.
[20:39]
We're going to make everyone go through.
[20:40]
You know, something like that.
[20:43]
But yeah.
[20:45]
Only problem is I can see parents say they are profiling my kid.
[20:51]
Oh, I get it all the time.
[20:52]
The one child who I caught with baves all the time she's still set a profile there even though I caught her multiple times
[20:58]
She's got better at hiding them
[21:00]
Later on so that I was profiling her
[21:04]
I'm just saying that. Oh, I know they will they do
[21:07]
And then I get the parents to get mad that I take it because it's their vape and they want it back
[21:11]
And I can't legally give them back after them to law enforcement. I get it all the time
[21:15]
I get you down for all so many things
[21:17]
But they're not allowed in the schools
[21:19]
Yeah, but that's what we can think about. You can think about what not today. But just think about it. We bring it up.
[21:25]
If vapes become a problem, we'll probably bring it back.
[21:28]
And then just take in the meantime, let's think about it like you said in the meantime.
[21:33]
Get them out to how many kids aren't getting caught with vapes.
[21:37]
Or suspected.
[21:38]
Or suspected.
[21:38]
They know that's happened, but you just can't find it. You have to get a number to want this purchase.
[21:46]
And then we'll see about the phones, how that becomes a problem, because I've had one last
[21:52]
year when they were on a lot of phones in class. We try taking the phone. Mom check dresses,
[21:57]
no, it's a suspension. You don't get to check her out to avoid the behavior. She's going
[22:02]
to leave school on to Mom. Are you notepie? You can't suspend her. I'm checking her out.
[22:06]
Then she brought her bag that I stay and she's like, you can't, I said she still owes me
[22:10]
a day of her phone while I'm keeping her phone and then she had her phone on her. It was just
[22:16]
it's a mess. I get to it so then it's like her parents taking her around the behavior.
[22:23]
So those kind of kids if we have it all document those two because that would be one
[22:29]
I'd be like well she used to walk through that. She doesn't have her phone on her then
[22:32]
and then she doesn't. I don't care.
[22:36]
Because I'm to the point where if it gets to that point
[22:39]
with a child like that. I'm just going to send them home until they can prove to me
[22:42]
she don't have it on her just because all she did was brag to the other kids
[22:46]
that she didn't get in trouble. Mom got me out and then it makes it trouble for
[22:50]
me to deal with later. Well someone so got to do it. You know, so I'll keep
[22:56]
traps on all those but those are some things I had last year. For instance, for
[23:01]
examples. Next one is report on August training. So just the trainings I did for
[23:07]
the school as an admin. We did the mandatory ethics training that's required by state and
[23:14]
the bullying training in our back to school August days. And then we also did some essential
[23:20]
standards and some data sheets getting ready for that for our school data to look at.
[23:28]
Our school initiatives for this year, we have to get accreditation this year, which we
[23:34]
do every camera for five or six years, but accreditation means pretty much I have to give
[23:40]
all my evidence in, we do what I say I do in order to be accredited to give diplomas.
[23:46]
And that will be in February, but we're starting getting the, we've already started on getting
[23:51]
the evidence because it takes months.
[23:54]
So that is going on this year, so you're aware this will be my second accreditation with
[24:00]
the school since I've been here.
[24:05]
And then also another initiative our school is taking
[24:09]
is being more understanding if a kid knows the standard. Not do they do a busy sheet.
[24:13]
Do they understand or know? So be a more standard based. Do they understand what they need
[24:19]
to know? Any questions on the trainings or and what we got going on this year?
[24:28]
okay exactly report enrollment which this has changed since I sent this out last
[24:33]
night we took another one this morning we'll have 25 and ninth grade and the rest
[24:37]
is the same so 112 kids so
[24:43]
we added one to what grade ninth grade
[24:47]
do you have any left over on waiting list or do we cover it if we do it's the
[24:54]
upper grades that are full if I have a way this I can't even remember
[25:01]
I'm not sure. I think there might be one in the 11th grade. I haven't even looked at
[25:06]
if there are the grades that are full, I don't even look at it right now because it's
[25:09]
been so busy up there the first few days.
[25:16]
Pretty much everyone at a point applied and got in, or were there some denial?
[25:23]
I think there's one 11th grade on the way to less. I'd have to check.
[25:35]
The only issue is
[25:36]
our building trying to handle this number. The bathrooms are a problem, the
[25:40]
lunchrooms are a problem, some of the classrooms don't fit so.
[25:46]
I mentioned at the last meeting that we can't do any good, that we can't go on any longer
[25:58]
spending getting up in the millions with repair of this building.
[26:02]
Yeah, because the roof needs to be repaired. All the plumbing needs to be redone.
[26:10]
Are all our teachers are hired?
[26:12]
Yes, we are fully staffed as of last week. HR has not called and given her a start date.
[26:18]
But she was approved by BC last week. I'm hoping I'm assuming they'll get with her this weekend.
[26:23]
She starts Monday because it's any pay period.
[26:25]
Which class?
[26:26]
That's our spread director.
[26:27]
Oh, spread, oh.
[26:28]
Yeah.
[26:29]
But we are blessed because the state paid for her to come into our school.
[26:32]
once you're an example, our spread program and they've extended her pay until we get
[26:36]
her hired so she's still working here and being paid by the state. But I'm assuming
[26:42]
which I'm grateful the state did that. But they said they know we have weird circumstances.
[26:49]
So, Immeline went with me on that one and it was the easiest one I've ever done, right
[26:54]
in my. They were very friendly. They were very friendly to me. They were nice. Two were
[27:03]
absent also. I just feel like this. Yeah, her and running when it supported me, as
[27:10]
I can y'all go with me please, so they did and all four were in favor and the only question
[27:17]
they had was the mistake that HR made saying it was kind of an education's budget and they
[27:22]
all approved it with the fix that it's you enter it with budget so that's the only question
[27:26]
on that one. So she'm hoping it starts Monday being on our payroll. So I can quit looking
[27:34]
back to the state that it's taken this long to hire someone.
[27:39]
So yeah we're fully staffed.
[27:42]
Just so you accept bus drivers. Yeah. I'm going to send up making a report right after
[27:51]
meeting to get to Ronnie about the bus routes and sports starting and the needs
[27:58]
so she can send to HR because there is somebody going to work here and I'm
[28:02]
hoping we can hire her as a temp until we get it going but we need two bus
[28:08]
drivers. We're gonna have two bus routes and with sports going so where will the
[28:14]
bus routes be? They're gonna have one like doing this side and one that side with
[28:18]
with just many kids, there's just so many.
[28:21]
And I think they're including Randallette
[28:23]
because there's such a need in Randallette.
[28:26]
And it's continuing to light rock.
[28:29]
Yeah, there'll be a bus driver going that way
[28:30]
and one go on this side of the 40.
[28:32]
It's how I'm understanding what their plan is.
[28:35]
Marvellous typing that up right now for me
[28:38]
so I can get it up to running
[28:40]
because I was like, I don't know your bus routes,
[28:42]
what you're adding, how many more kids you have.
[28:44]
So get that number, those numbers to me
[28:46]
and then I can add my blood about sports and I mean right now when there's a volleyball game
[28:53]
I have no one to drive kids home so you know who's been doing this is Alex and I and I don't mind
[28:58]
but that's a long day because I get here to open doors at 7.45 and that gets me home about 8 o'clock at night
[29:03]
so I'm leaving my house at 7 and getting home at 8. I mean it's a long day I don't mind doing it
[29:07]
but if we get someone in here that would be great so you're not I'm not wearing myself then Alex then
[29:13]
I don't want any of myself to get to the point where we don't enjoy being here anymore because it's we're so tired
[29:18]
Well, it's every now and
[29:23]
Some
[29:26]
Some
[29:27]
Grambled some kids forget to tell them so then I'm sitting here all hours and night away from Detroit and touch with someone
[29:33]
So am I supposed to take them home?
[29:36]
Yeah, I mean there was one here last night that forgot to tell the parents
[29:43]
busses are going and he got missed when we did the sweep as admin and Ronda found him
[29:49]
hiding in the classroom from happy Ronda found him and he was here. I want to say past six.
[29:56]
She told me so yeah
[30:00]
When there's no buses, it's still our problem here.
[30:05]
So,
[30:09]
I mean, we put an email out there, we're going to lock them out. But when it's freezing, I'm really not going to. I'm just trying to scare parents, pick their kids up because I have a couple. These little boyfriend girlfriends, these two children that miss the bus on purpose, they'll tell us. And then I'm stuck here at a senate clock at night when they hold hands and hang out.
[30:32]
Well, if a parent has a phone, can't the parents be called? Are you responsible for picking up your kids?
[30:39]
Oh, we try.
[30:40]
Yeah.
[30:41]
Until we get drivers.
[30:42]
I've already, we just did phone calls at the first day of school and you may not believe how many already are non-working numbers.
[30:47]
Or they don't answer us.
[30:49]
Or return our calls.
[30:51]
We try, I mean, to the extent.
[30:55]
Shoulder with the police?
[31:01]
I have so many with anxiety here, one teacher even told them that one's because she thought
[31:06]
we did the same as other schools and the child literally is hyperventilating to me.
[31:10]
I'm like, I'm not calling the police.
[31:12]
I will sit with you.
[31:14]
But so yeah, I don't know.
[31:17]
It's a...
[31:18]
I don't mind if we'll teach her not to get tough.
[31:21]
Oh, this is the kids.
[31:23]
Oh, I do.
[31:24]
We do.
[31:25]
Yeah, we try. So those kids that are just deliberately miss the bus, I will lock
[31:30]
them out in the cold. But like a child who's parent forgot them, I do have them. I'm
[31:37]
not gonna, and they're crying already, I can't do it. I'm not that tough. I mean,
[31:45]
I have a few that are grandparents that forget.
[31:50]
So it is our population that we serve.
[31:52]
So we do definitely need new bus drivers. We need to yeah, so we can meet the need so we're on it
[31:59]
So I'm praying we get them quickly
[32:06]
There's the coordinator and a bus driver. Yeah
[32:12]
So that's around that any other questions of anything that's going for you guys
[32:19]
Okay, next thing is policy
[32:22]
We have to have an artificial intelligence policy.
[32:25]
So this leaves root of mimicking what the state requires.
[32:33]
And then also we have to have the instructional technologies policy because there's new laws.
[32:41]
For instance, if a child wants paper copy a teacher by law has to offer them that, which
[32:45]
wasn't something before.
[32:46]
So like new laws like that.
[32:49]
This grade change replacement recovery policy is where I was not aware and now I'm aware
[32:55]
now.
[32:55]
If a child misses, let's say they just don't go to school, they're 10th grade year, they
[33:00]
cannot do credit recovery, they have to do the actual class.
[33:03]
So like ingenuity or in person, so I've got some seniors where they're pretty upset of
[33:08]
the amount of work that I'm like, they've been in school in a year and a half, so if a child
[33:14]
does not take a class in person.
[33:16]
So, let's say you don't send your child to school, they're 10th grade year.
[33:20]
Now they're 11th grade year, they cannot do those classes, they missed on credit recovery
[33:24]
because they never failed it.
[33:26]
So that's the law, so this is this policy.
[33:29]
I highlighted what she added to this policy since I sent it out because she added a couple
[33:34]
of sections, so you'll need one for me.
[33:37]
She added a grade replacement part in there, like if a child wants to fight their grade,
[33:44]
or those kids in bed who get an alternative program diploma. So she did add that and she also put
[33:51]
in as a section in there where if a kid went to appeal agreed what they have to do. Let's say
[33:59]
they say oh they let the whole class retake the test but they didn't let me and they want to appeal
[34:03]
it out of street unfairly. So there's a process for that. So in a process if a kid wants to improve
[34:11]
they're great. So she did add this grade replacement policy and she sent it over
[34:15]
this this morning and told me to make sure I let y'all know that because she
[34:19]
realized she'd left that part out. So I highlighted it. I kind of boxed it
[34:24]
in.
[34:29]
There's another one where it's been changed and she sent it.
[34:37]
And then she
[34:38]
also updated our title 9 policy. This is one we've always had but she said
[34:43]
She's been a few court cases with it.
[34:45]
So she updated with things she learned by being in those reviews.
[34:50]
So that's just an updated one of one we already have.
[34:53]
But something she said she learned.
[34:55]
And here's those other policies.
[34:57]
Anybody who's going to look at them?
[35:00]
Those weren't changed at all.
[35:24]
You shouldn't have to change them.
[35:25]
I'll just go on the chat.
[35:27]
None of those changes she sent them.
[35:29]
Just the one I told you.
[35:31]
she decided that section. She caught me last night. I want to add that section. I think
[35:36]
you need it. I'm like, okay, and then she gets me this morning. So I was like, I don't
[35:40]
even have time to get it to them. I'll just highlight it and let them know that section
[35:45]
was added.
[35:45]
Do you have a lot of kids that are in a situation?
[35:49]
Yes.
[35:51]
To this year. One has to take four classes on ingenuity, which is not easy. In a second
[35:59]
get one. He will be able to graduate 11th grader if he plays sports because then I can
[36:06]
use that for his patient skills and use that as an elective, but he will have a full schedule
[36:10]
for the two four years he's here. Huh? He wasn't here yesterday for me to have this conversation
[36:17]
with him, but he'll find out.
[36:23]
And they live in the same household. Pretty much all I can
[36:27]
get gathered as grandma just hasn't made them go to school.
[36:33]
One's a senior and she understood she was here yesterday and we talked to her, I'm
[36:40]
like, I don't know if you have a circumstances of why you weren't in school, if something
[36:43]
happened with custody, I don't know if there is, we could hold you back, she was no, I'd rather
[36:47]
just work hard and get it done this year.
[36:50]
Okay.
[36:53]
So we'll see if it happens, she's here again today and hasn't given up.
[36:57]
I'd be considering giving up so I'm proud of her for that.
[37:01]
But I could give that credit to Maria. She always tells them I will be hearing you
[37:06]
way I can to help you and show you how to do it. So, that's a Mariah. I give her
[37:13]
that credit, it's not me.
[37:18]
Any other questions on the policy updates and the
[37:24]
new ones that we have to have now?
[37:31]
If not, do we have a motion to approve?
[37:39]
All in
[37:39]
favor.
[37:42]
Emily, are you in favor? I'm sorry. Is that a yes? Okay. Okay. You know how
[37:53]
that lady always comes out every year and does the training. The lady told me I
[37:58]
could give it probably if I wanted to and I said probably so because I already
[38:02]
know what we've already heard. So we're just gonna go through this because it's
[38:05]
required every year and let's get it over with. So this is our open and public
[38:11]
meeting so you know we have to have this annual training every year and we
[38:16]
know we have to have a quorum we talk about that every week so we have to have
[38:20]
at least three here in order to have a meeting that's a report we have to have
[38:27]
it open to the public that's why we always have the public comment and our school
[38:32]
can't be locked but since ours is during the day something by show a meeting
[38:36]
they can get in and let us know they're in the meeting.
[38:40]
If we change locations, this is the
[38:42]
requirements. I can't see as ever change in locations.
[38:45]
If this building is to the part where we can have a safe meeting,
[38:48]
I'm canceling the meeting, which we had to do that once.
[38:52]
Right in the line the time we had the gas leak.
[38:55]
We just canceled board meeting. I didn't move to a separate location.
[38:59]
Because if I'm dealing with that, I really won't have my brain here to give a
[39:02]
to give a meeting so I think with the way we generate most likely will ever have to do this
[39:10]
another thing electronic meetings the only time we ever offered this was during COVID
[39:17]
so I mean if we had to do that a Zoom meeting but unless there's an illness going around I prefer not
[39:24]
to do it because it comes with so much fatigue but doing it but so we haven't done one in a very
[39:30]
long time, so I don't ever do the electronic ones and that's if we had it. So I get a lot
[39:39]
of the notices, it says the chair, but I send out notices on that PM inside. So that's
[39:49]
if we had an electronic meeting, the requirements. So if we ever had to do that, I would probably
[39:54]
have to have someone brush me up to be honest on what all I need to do. So oh yeah there we go,
[40:02]
we have to have a resolution and rule that we're going to have one. So we don't even have that.
[40:07]
So we'd have to do all that before we do electronics so we won't even. Let's just pray we never have
[40:12]
COVID again, right? So anyway, that's more on the electronics. So we'll skip unless we get there to
[40:20]
wherever I have to go back.
[40:24]
So if we went to a workshop, we just
[40:27]
can't have a meeting there.
[40:30]
I mean, it has to be open to the public.
[40:32]
So when we went to the training, yeah, we're there.
[40:35]
But we can't hold a meeting like just you remember
[40:40]
how if we all start talking about something considered a meeting
[40:44]
and we could get in trouble.
[40:45]
So if we were talking something school related,
[40:48]
and it needs to wait till we're in an open meeting
[40:51]
with the recordings.
[40:54]
I do this.
[40:56]
So I have to put our agenda on this website
[40:58]
24 hours in advance.
[41:00]
Our approved our agenda as the chair.
[41:04]
And the only time is if it's an emergency meeting,
[41:08]
which there's only certain things
[41:10]
where we have an emergency meeting.
[41:13]
Something we need to get approved like right away
[41:16]
is usually about the only time
[41:21]
I think we
[41:26]
only had one emergency meeting in the line of time.
[41:31]
And I came, remember why?
[41:33]
It was something that there was a deadline for something, and we had to do that.
[41:38]
But I don't know where to do it.
[41:42]
So that's our public meeting content I have to have to attend to the date, the time, the
[41:46]
place of the meeting and it has everything documented. So I have so many hours and that's
[41:55]
probably where they'll get into here. It's in there. I know it is, but I have so many
[42:01]
hours to get the minutes in. They're recording uploaded to the public. So I always just
[42:06]
do it right after this meeting because if not, what happens if I get busy and I forget
[42:13]
it, then I've broken laws and puts us at risk. So, I just usually do it right after.
[42:21]
Okay.
[42:25]
So, this is Sam. We can't like vote on something if it's not on the agenda. It has to have that notice.
[42:32]
So, just so you're aware of that. So, I've been trying to bring me something once before for athletics.
[42:40]
and it would stay as mean as I could have to go next month.
[42:42]
I can let them know next month.
[42:44]
We'll look at this, but we can't take action,
[42:46]
vote on it until next month.
[42:50]
Our public comments, which I was not aware of
[42:53]
that until I start with this consultant
[42:55]
that we have it on the agenda, like a place for it,
[42:57]
but she just always leaves it on the agenda for us.
[43:01]
So it's there if someone's here
[43:02]
and wants to make a comment.
[43:04]
Oh,
[43:08]
let's see.
[43:09]
That's where we have the minutes, the requirements, and I take care of all that.
[43:16]
But then we also have to have it voted on at the next meeting.
[43:21]
So I have to put them in, and then I have to go back and put them in, approved on such
[43:26]
and such date.
[43:28]
So I do all that.
[43:31]
There's the approval of minutes.
[43:36]
Okay, recordings of the meetings. We have all of our meetings recorded. The only time
[43:41]
she told me that we don't have to have it recording is if we're in closed
[43:44]
meeting and something is very sensitive. Maybe there's like a child that's
[43:51]
having some mental health issues or something. It's very sensitive. In that case
[43:55]
there's a form that art has to sign that he agrees that we could shouldn't be
[44:00]
recording. If we're like a closed meeting, it's not something very, very
[44:05]
sensitive. I record it and put the recording in place where it's not open to
[44:08]
the public, but if we're ever audited. But she said something like that
[44:12]
words, a child's something very, very sensitive. She said we'll have to get a
[44:18]
form in art. We'll have to sign in as chair. But we haven't gotten to anything
[44:25]
there yet, so I haven't done that yet. Hopefully never. Hopefully never. Usually it's just for
[44:31]
having issues with an employer something we went into closed and a couple of times we had some
[44:37]
issues in sports where we went into closed meetings because the kids names being talked about. So again,
[44:49]
I have three business days to post the recording but I'll do it as soon as we're done because that's
[44:55]
hard for me to remember, and I've went over the closed meeting requirements.
[45:00]
So the reason is if we're discussing the character, professional confidence, or mental health of an individual, told us strategy suggestion, discussion, collective bargaining, and to hold a strategy session to discuss pending or reasonable implications of litigation and things to talk about, which usually all those things when it gets at that level, the BC usually is the
[45:31]
what's talking about those kind of things.
[45:34]
So mainly the one ones we went at the close meeting
[45:37]
is this with our staff or some kids usually.
[45:42]
And that's purchasing a land which we won't be doing ever.
[45:47]
So we don't worry about that.
[45:49]
Some more reasons.
[45:51]
Again, we won't be buying land as a school
[45:54]
since we're on tribal land.
[45:59]
If it's something to do with security issues, you don't want to get out to the public
[46:03]
of how we handle something and then allegations and investigations of criminal stuff.
[46:14]
Okay, I don't know if I even looked at this slide, sorry, I missed this one.
[46:20]
Well, we don't, again, don't do the procurement of lands, so we don't have to worry about that one.
[46:32]
But that's, I would say, the land, the trading outland, things we don't have to do that.
[46:41]
We don't have any loans, so we can skip that one.
[46:45]
And I already told you how I went over the records for a closed session and what we do there.
[46:51]
So we can skip those if y'all are okay with it.
[46:57]
And I think that's it.
[47:00]
Pretty much.
[47:02]
The main thing is the way I have to do is make sure it's posted 24 hours.
[47:06]

[47:07]

[47:16]
Any questions for me on those?
[47:20]
Anything anybody needs for me before we close?
[47:26]
I don't have it.
[47:29]
Okay.
[47:31]
Do we have a motion to close the meeting?
[47:34]
Yes.
[47:36]
Do we have a second?
[47:37]
All right, meeting adjourned at 10, 54 a.m.
