[3:58] presentation that would be awesome so um as always and one other thing i'd

[4:04] just like to note is because we don't have a quorum our next meeting barb has

[4:09] been nice enough to step in as president for us

[4:13] um so um i talked to rose

[4:17] and she is going to be looking through the applications for the park board

[4:22] members and then um we will hopefully bring on

[4:26] another park board member and then have elections next month so that's kind of

[4:31] what i'm hoping um is the plan so

[4:35] perfect okay so um basically this is the park

[4:40] maintenance budget we're at 49.85 percent

[4:45] um again we're a little lower than we typically are around this time a couple

[4:50] things are in play here

[4:53] schmidt and baseball field is under construction so we are not watering this

[4:58] midfield so our utilities are a little bit down and

[5:02] also we have had um some issues hiring seasonal so

[5:07] we are not fully staffed so that's another reason why we are a little bit

[5:12] lower than typical on that number

[5:17] um so i just wanted to share with everybody that

[5:20] our summer was really successful with our skyhawks and soccer um shots we

[5:26] ended up having up having about 30 camps we come to find out basketball was

[5:33] so popular that we tried to find a new location that actually have the

[5:37] basketball um camp because

[5:41] our we only have half court basketball so we tried to move it over to jim

[5:45] degard we just didn't have enough time to do

[5:48] the paperwork to actually have it at gym to guard so we did go ahead and have it

[5:52] at oak tree but we ended up having about 16 kids

[5:57] sign up for the basketball camp so that was pretty awesome

[6:00] i just received a check from soccer shops and so basically with the spring

[6:06] camp and the summer camp we've ended up making about four thousand dollars with

[6:10] soccer shops and then sky hawks will probably be

[6:14] bringing in about six thousand dollars um with the camps that we had this

[6:18] summer so it was a very successful so i'm excited to see what fall is going to

[6:24] bring us michelle how much was the basketball

[6:27] again sorry um so the basketball we ended up having

[6:32] 16 is kind of the extent on what they have

[6:35] want to have for kids specifically

[6:39] one of the things we tried to do with jump to guard is when we we called the

[6:43] school we had to fill out a facility rental

[6:46] agreement and they also were going to charge us 20

[6:49] dollars an hour to rent the facility

[6:53] which is was about 600

[6:56] and honestly that would have been just fine for us to rent it because

[7:01] um the amount that we would have made off of that class was 636 dollars so it

[7:06] would have been a wash which is fine again we're not into the camps to make

[7:11] money but we weren't able to get the insurance

[7:15] that we needed we needed to have

[7:18] kelly was it the insurance in our name or in the school district's name yeah

[7:23] they wanted us to name them as an insured and we just are not able to do

[7:30] that wcaa will not allow us to name a third party

[7:36] so yeah

[7:38] so so i think it's going to take a little bit more investigation for us to

[7:42] see if next summer if we want to utilize some of the school facilities

[7:47] and start working on that in april i know they're working on hiring a

[7:51] recreation person um at washable school district so once that person starts

[7:57] and we'll have a contact that we'll be able to meet with

[8:00] a lot to kind of talk about what they'd like to see for the recreation program

[8:04] and how we can help them build their program

[8:07] so um

[8:10] whoever lives in the washington area might have got a postcard which is super

[8:14] exciting so one of the things since we aren't in the school year yet we wanted

[8:20] to have everybody still see our recreation guide

[8:23] so if you click with your phone on this little icon right here you can actually

[8:28] pull up our recreation guide it was an amazing um pretty inexpensive

[8:34] opportunity for us to get out to everybody and it also helped us where we

[8:39] can send and create this while we were still working on our guide

[8:43] because it takes a lot of work to try to get all the you know logistics figured

[8:48] out for each field and working with skyhawk soccer shots and

[8:53] anybody else who wanted to put in information

[8:57] i know east county little league would also like to advertise in our next

[9:02] edition because that will actually work nicely

[9:05] with their when their league starts up again so

[9:09] hopefully our our thing will just continue to grow but

[9:13] yeah this postcard was a really awesome opportunity and pretty inexpensive way

[9:18] to get out to a lot of citizens

[9:23] um so one of the things that we had talked about in our last meeting was

[9:27] looking at the ambassador um kind of what the

[9:30] city of camas has done and so city of camas actually sends me

[9:35] what their ambassador program is the responsibility is overseeing and

[9:39] protection of of something considered worth caring for

[9:43] and preserving which is the parks so um this is kind of what city of campus has

[9:49] for their roles we're visiting parks at least once a week to enjoy and observe

[9:54] the key is to enjoy your park observe what users are enjoying

[9:58] speak with park users if you are comfortable

[10:01] and email your observations to park and recreation

[10:05] staff so karen was really good about letting me

[10:09] know that somebody had cried off our brand new

[10:13] [Music] bench at hathaway and thrown it into the

[10:17] forest so unfortunately i was able to contact will

[10:21] and we were able to at least have the bench put back into her op shard

[10:26] but you know again that's kind of the beauty of the ambassadors because i mean

[10:31] i don't think if karen wouldn't have let us know it might have got stolen or

[10:34] something else might have happened to it so

[10:38] so one of the things i would like to do when we have a larger meeting maybe is

[10:42] to take a look and see if everybody likes these roles and if there's

[10:47] anything we want to expand on if this works for washu

[10:52] and then kind of just make our ambassador what works best for us

[11:00] sounds good and here is the group i can't believe

[11:05] how wonderful this turned out so everybody got to pick the park that they

[11:10] would like and so it just ended up that everybody

[11:14] kind of lives by the parks and so this is how the ambassador roles turned out

[11:19] again i'll kind of type it up more formally in a memo once we decide what

[11:23] we would like those roles to be so

[11:29] are there any more assignments yet to happen or is everyone on there already

[11:35] well um karen is an overachiever here so she's got quite a

[11:40] few parks under her um her list i get out a lot

[11:46] so you know and again this has been this amazing for us because she's gone in and

[11:51] saw some stuff that's really helped us so we can grab it before

[11:55] lost it but um you know i don't want to push anybody

[12:00] to take more than you know one park and i'd like to see how this works

[12:05] um so the parks that don't actually have people's names on we're kind of just as

[12:10] a group internally checking them a little bit more often

[12:15] michelle i still do a cleanup crew at sandy swim hole

[12:19] so i don't mind putting my name on that one too just because i'm usually there

[12:38] we are fully staffed with the park board but basically we

[12:43] have talked about adopting a park and we

[12:48] kind of vetted the idea early on and basically adopting a park

[12:54] is a great way to make a difference in the

[12:57] community i mean this program provides many different ways for local families

[13:01] and businesses to get involved and have ownership on that specific park

[13:06] and so i have always loved this model and

[13:11] tigard had a limited program on adopt a park but it was more adopt the streets

[13:16] but i would really like to take the same concept and bring it into our park so

[13:22] um i can send everybody out kind of the full write-up of what i've done on the

[13:27] adopt-a-park and i know that we can't make any official decisions at this

[13:31] meeting because we don't have a quorum but um

[13:35] you know again i just kind of like to get maybe what everybody's thoughts are

[13:39] on something like this and

[13:44] i can say i did that little bit of research about vandalism and how other

[13:49] communities are dealing with vandalism and this is the

[13:54] one thing that kept popping up is to get the community involved in ways like this

[13:59] so you read my mind

[14:04] well the next slide is going to be totally appropriate then

[14:08] because you get to see what has happened to our perks lately

[14:12] so so this slide again i'll bring back and i'll send kind of the entire write

[14:17] up of what i've done on the adopt the park and then that gives everybody an

[14:22] opportunity to look at it for the next month

[14:25] and then let me know if you have any changes and then it sounds like if park

[14:30] board is good and adopts the adopt a park then i can move it forward to

[14:35] council and then i can get more formal action from council to see what their

[14:39] thoughts are on that

[14:43] so the reason these programs are so wonderful is because these are recent

[14:48] pictures and so we had a hit and run

[14:53] completely on our porta potty and right after we finished putting the

[14:57] graffiti stuff on down lower hathaway we ended up

[15:01] getting this tag and then somebody tried to steal the

[15:05] top of our elizabeth park picnic table so

[15:10] again very disappointing because we have been working really hard on trying to do

[15:14] some really awesome things so um

[15:19] you know i think security cameras i'm gonna try to see if i can put that into

[15:23] the 2022 budget or if we have additional dollars left over this year i'm gonna

[15:29] see how much cameras might be at least in the places that are getting tagged

[15:33] the most hathaway has been hit pretty hard i

[15:36] think i talked to will this morning and there

[15:39] somebody i think will correct me if i'm wrong but

[15:43] i think somebody spray painted some of our new tables at hathaway um that are

[15:48] our portable tables um

[15:51] they're not portable they're the in place we got some hit uh lower halfway

[15:56] furthest to the west so it's not real high viz

[15:59] uh we're going to try out it's been those are the new tables they're

[16:02] permanently mounted they've been powder coated we're going to try some new paint

[16:05] see if we can fix them because this is probably going

[16:08] to be something that's reoccurring and then uh our parks employee actually ran

[16:13] off some kids two days ago an upper half away that we're doing some damage again

[16:16] to some permanently mounted picnic tables so it's been they've kept us very

[16:20] busy i'm surprised hathaway gets so much when it has all those houses lining

[16:26] right there and those people have been very vocal about

[16:30] pickleball ball noise and stuff over the years i'm surprised people aren't

[16:34] seeing and reporting stuff that's interesting it is interesting that to

[16:39] schultz see there that when they got they tried to set that on fire

[16:43] they repaired it and then serviced it the next night they drug it

[16:48] into the middle of the parking lot and ran it over with a truck or something

[16:52] um i don't know what's going on yeah it's just super discouraging and

[16:58] the first day that we actually put this port-a-potty the one laying in the

[17:02] parking lot um in the cat the lock was cut off the first night

[17:07] so michelle maybe in the meantime um we can put

[17:12] signs up even if we don't have cameras saying it's monitored by cameras that's

[17:18] a good idea it's a cheap solution i mean is there any legal implications of

[17:22] saying you're doing something that you're not

[17:24] yeah there are we've done that at other places and people use it as a safety net

[17:29] um we had some dummy cameras down in the tunnel when it first went up and we had

[17:34] some bad things happen and someone got robbed or something like that and she

[17:37] says no the city's got all that on camera it was a dummy camera it was

[17:41] meant to discourage people and there was no footage to go back on so it gives

[17:44] people a very false sense of security with the cameras that

[17:49] are signed to be up but don't actually exist

[17:52] don't actually function can't record so we can't actually do that and to get

[17:56] right how about a fine sign then a sign that

[18:00] says uh for whatever the the vandalism um

[18:04] fines are now put up

[18:07] just something you know until we get them into that yeah

[18:12] yeah and you know will just told me that story about the tunnel after i had

[18:16] posted signs that say there's cameras down at low

[18:20] because i was so frustrated and i haven't removed them yet but my plan is

[18:24] to remove the signs so it does say it michelle we're on the same way oh all

[18:28] right all right yeah that's a great idea yeah i figured there was some reason why

[18:32] we couldn't put them up though as a liability yep it is unfortunately

[18:37] yeah so we're just going to say 500 fine or

[18:41] whatever it is then maybe we can get away with those

[18:45] yeah and you know again if the budget continues to have additional savings

[18:50] that's one of the first things i would like to do is just at least have quotes

[18:54] ready so we can buy it and i think i would start

[18:58] would you start with lower hathaway would that be your first choice and then

[19:02] upper half away or vice versa lower gets it more just because it's out

[19:07] of out of sight yeah

[19:14] summer programming was what amount um i think it's gonna come in about ten

[19:19] thousand dollars wow that is amazing um can't

[19:24] some of that be utilized for these or no it definitely can um one of the things

[19:30] that i'm trying to do is because there's some added expense like printing

[19:34] postcards so that the postcards only ended up

[19:38] costing about two thousand dollars for the fall but again you know the

[19:43] revenue for recreation is definitely um a lot more so than we had anticipated so

[19:50] i am sure our finance director would allow us to utilize that money to start

[19:54] you know putting in cameras and doing other things i mean she's been amazingly

[19:58] supportive about you know anti-graffiti and getting some of our restrooms

[20:02] cleaned up so i would just kind of like to keep up

[20:05] the momentum and especially you know i hate to think we have to repaint

[20:09] everything each year because of all the vandalism that happens that would just

[20:13] be heartbreaking so yeah all right thank you

[20:17] yep so um again i just would like to kind of

[20:21] shout out to everybody i mean this is amazing stuff this jump to guard trail

[20:25] if anybody ever gets to have a chance to go out there it's it's beautiful this is

[20:30] the bridge um out there and again i'm just gonna

[20:39] crew so you know we just installed this and

[20:42] the weeds are already starting to cover the bridge and again we just don't have

[20:46] people to go in and trim back the weeds so

[20:58] and my husband always brings his clippers and we clip those weeds so

[22:40] clearly because that does kind of add a wrinkle into everything because if we

[22:45] are to do anything on this property we have to open up the interlocal agreement

[22:49] again to add anything else that we do on this

[22:55] the other thing is i talked to camis parks director probably weekly

[23:01] and they're working on their pros plan and so one of the things that they're

[23:05] looking at doing is setting up field um maintenance fee costs

[23:10] and they've already started working with their sports leagues to talk to them

[23:14] about stuff like that so um

[23:17] you know in our next meeting i would really like to kind of talk about what

[23:20] everybody's thoughts are around that and what we would like to see

[23:26] again just looking at the water bills for

[23:29] the summer that we actually had the two fields up and running it was around ten

[23:33] thousand dollars so bringing on another field in

[23:37] restrooms we're gonna have some pretty big sticker shock

[23:42] but it looks beautiful that was the point of the slide

[23:45] who does own it uh the school district

[23:57] construction will start this fall i meant to at least update that so um

[24:04] we've this project has been going back and forth so um i i had taken it on done

[24:11] some research and found that i can bring in a kind of a wood bridge and actually

[24:15] replace it by this fall and the wood bridge construction for removing it and

[24:21] the construction was going to be about 60 000 to do

[24:26] um i i'm working with our engineer department

[24:29] to see if that's the right fix and so i'm still not sure if

[24:35] if i'm going to be able to move forward with my plan or if

[24:38] we're going to have a different type of bridge there so

[24:41] as i learn more i'll let you know but

[24:45] i was hoping to get a fix in there sooner than later because it's really

[24:48] hard to get around there and the other thing that will be

[24:52] happening there is these trees um are going to be cut down september

[24:58] 24th i think and so basically this will do this will really at least get any

[25:03] type of bridge ready to come in here and i'll get these things off

[25:07] they're leaning on the bridge right now so

[25:15] i don't i don't think i ever shared this um slide so um

[25:21] i think the last time we had missed i was going to create this and show it to

[25:24] everybody but um we've been looking for a permanent dog park currently we have

[25:28] 0.33 acres behind city hall one of the reasons this area is so

[25:35] interesting to look at for a dog park is because it's got the railroad and

[25:41] you're not disturbing a lot of neighbors with a dog park so it kind of seemed

[25:44] like it was well suited for this area um

[25:48] [Music] i wanted to share kind of what the dog

[25:51] features could be and share my experience with a

[25:55] dog park i built similarly in tigard and so these pictures kind of show you what

[26:01] the tiger park looked like the tigard park was .29 acres

[26:06] and i can tell you it was downtown in tigard it's called um ash

[26:12] wait yeah i think it's called ash avenue dog

[26:15] park and so one of the things that if you ever get a chance to go out and look

[26:20] at it it is an amazing park and it always had probably about 20

[26:24] dogs in there so it was always busy and the biggest issue with this was parking

[26:29] because it was such a popular park michelle there's no issue

[26:34] of that being a park parking lot in the future along the tracks there

[26:39] well let me click into my next screen so

[26:43] basically yeah so um again i just wanted to kind

[26:47] of share some of the justification we did for the tiger park i mean we had the

[26:51] most amazing dog park halloween costumes um you know it was affordable

[26:57] and again the biggest problem we're going to have with the dog park is being

[27:01] able to have the land and actually having the um parking space because

[27:07] you know everything else we probably can do

[27:10] so i kind of came up with the cost and this is my new puppy i just want to

[27:14] introduce him

[27:18] he's super cool if you have any dog names let me know

[27:24] or oh looks like a viking or something yes oh that's cute michelle i've had to

[27:34] so um the fencing is going to be about 15 to 20 thousand dollars um the dog

[27:39] park features are usually around 15 to 20. um you know putting in sidewalks

[27:44] bark chips water fountains and signage i see i think we could build a dog park

[27:50] where that it would be right there fifty to seventy thousand

[27:54] please note city hall parking lot needs to be planned first so i put that in

[27:58] extra big writing so everybody is aware that that

[28:02] you know i i think kathy's got a dog too

[28:07] cute see dogs they're so fun so you know

[28:12] i i like the property because it's

[28:14] property we already own and i think the only way that we can do this in the next

[28:19] few years um financially probably is to look at things we already own

[28:24] so um you know i think we're going to have

[28:27] more discussion on the parking lot

[28:31] just to give everybody kind of an update um i met

[28:36] tuesday with the camas um parks department dog paw in washington

[28:42] campus has a couple of thoughts on dog park options all their dog park options

[28:48] are like way out in the future we've still been talking a lot about

[28:52] goop park but that still comes with a lot of different issues um that canvas

[28:57] would have to deal with and so you know the reality of that

[29:02] you know we've been talking about that for quite a few years so i'm not sure if

[29:06] that would happen um when we finished with our meeting

[29:09] with dog paw we decided that our next step should probably be with meeting

[29:13] with um canvas parks washington parks and the

[29:16] port and see what kind of properties they have out there and if there's any

[29:21] other interest than what we've already looked at in the past

[29:25] you know that port one is one i'm just thinking about it seeing it there

[29:30] with all the housing they're planning there between killians and potentially

[29:35] the port development with the different housing

[29:39] they're gonna want stuff for their um people that are renting over there yeah

[29:44] i mean there could be thousands of people over there when a lot of them are

[29:48] gonna have pets uh it's definitely something

[29:51] um we should approach the the porch and uh poured about and maybe even

[29:57] well killian's pretty much designed out all their stuff um

[30:02] but we need to do that for sure

[30:05] yeah so we're gonna try to meet with the port in the next two weeks because that

[30:09] was kind of our thought too with all those condos

[30:12] yeah some space and you know they have a lot

[30:15] more open lands um over there now and so if there was a time to do that

[30:21] that would be now so and there's been a lot of negotiations

[30:26] about um the nine bark park and who's going to be the owner of that

[30:31] so i'm sure there'll be more to come on that

[30:34] and and we gave our little bit of land to that whole deal to make that happen

[30:39] too i hope people don't forget about that

[30:47] so the other thing we've been working on is the bpa lines again

[30:52] that seems like an awesome opportunity because that's land that can't be used

[30:55] so we've kind of visually gone up and down the land looking at gis mapping and

[31:01] seeing what kind of things we could do but then you run into parking issues and

[31:05] neighborhoods so it's not quite as easy as you know you

[31:09] would hope and the other thing is schmidt family

[31:13] park you know that's i'm a little concerned with schmidt i'll

[31:17] be honest because it seems like if we were to move forward

[31:23] on this one soon we have rco grant opportunities in 2022 and if we

[31:30] missed that window to do anything um grant wise we won't have another

[31:35] opportunity until the 2024. and rco is probably the only way that we

[31:41] will be able to do any development

[31:45] mid family park so

[31:48] um this schmidt family park i mean if we were to try to hit the rco grant process

[31:54] in 2022 we'd really need to start working on our master plan tomorrow

[32:00] so i i thought the dog option was out at

[32:04] schmidt especially lower uh schmidt because

[32:10] because of the different grant requirements

[32:14] um so david scott and i talked about this

[32:19] yesterday and so we think that any requirements were going to be tied to

[32:25] the park conservation grant that we received

[32:28] so right now i'm looking for that application and

[32:32] seeing what kind of restrictions there was on that grant because that would be

[32:36] the one that would have

[32:40] you know had those type of restrictions we need

[32:43] so i'm also going to review the rco grant for that too just to verify so

[32:48] once i get some more information on that it's just kind of digging in and

[32:52] figuring out um so one of the things i wanted to find

[32:55] out from the park board is where would you like us to start going

[33:00] with all of this i mean i kind of have given several scenarios

[33:04] and i think this is something that we all know

[33:08] all citizens have put pretty high on their priority list of wanting to have

[33:12] so i want to chase ideas but i want to

[33:15] chase ideas that the park board likes

[33:22] i want the cheapest option i know i'm not a board member but

[33:26] that's what i want

[33:46] another business down there and i think if we had a dog park in our new library

[33:50] in reflection plaza it would be more walking traffic in that

[33:55] area and maybe we could get some more businesses down there or the current

[33:59] businesses to stay open or reopen and so that's why i pushed that one and

[34:04] i look at it too is land we already own and a vacant lot that trash just gets

[34:08] dumped on and i just think making it into

[34:12] something like we did the community guarded with would revitalize downtown

[34:16] yeah no i like that um and if anybody was going

[34:20] on a field trip sometime to walla walla let me tell you they handled covid

[34:25] amazingly they have blocked downtown roads and made like these new courtyards

[34:31] on the side roads where people can sit and have wine it's amazing what they did

[34:36] i have pictures so if anybody wants to see what walla walla did it's amazing

[34:41] yeah that would be great yeah i was just going to say that i

[34:45] thought the 0.33 acres was too small but now that you've introduced the

[34:52] 0.29 acres at ash avenue park and that's the most popular park well i

[34:59] i need to rethink how i view the 0.33 acres because now it does seem like

[35:04] maybe it really is viable yeah it you know it was just so well

[35:08] designed and i don't try to recreate the wheel because again

[35:12] there was always right they kept it clean it wasn't a muddy mess you know

[35:17] they had this little concrete area with you know

[35:20] um michelle and i rochelle and i were thinking on the same lines they have

[35:24] some really awesome fountains um you know to clean dogs as they go in

[35:29] and out and yeah i mean you can really make a dog

[35:33] park pretty nice and classy and you know again finding one that you're

[35:38] not going to destroy neighbors is super hard yeah

[35:42] i i like uh yeah i mean i like that location as well especially

[35:48] making that downtown area as dense as we can to bring people down there and get

[35:53] things going as long as um you know we're not going to get kicked out of

[35:56] there because um you know

[36:00] we we owe parking to the library or the expansion of the uh campus there or the

[36:06] city hall yeah

[36:09] as long as as uh we're good to go in that spot i'm definitely for that

[36:14] yeah i can definitely keep working on our and i mean i think it's probably

[36:18] worth um you know after the park board kind of votes and says they like me to

[36:24] send it forward i can also see because again i would like counsel

[36:28] to you know

[36:30] over you know take a look at this and see what their thoughts are

[36:34] and you know again if it's something that everybody's super passionate about

[36:38] and if it's is you know just coming up with a parking plan i mean let's

[36:44] how much would it be to design the parking lot just to at least have a

[36:47] general idea should we go ahead and pitch that at the

[36:52] same time get a cost or is that i assume that's outside the park

[36:56] department but maybe that would help sway

[36:59] some decision makers

[37:03] you know i mean i don't think the council is

[37:06] going to oppose it it's just that we've always been told that

[37:11] you know it's it's going to be utilized for something else and it would be

[37:14] temporary so i mean that's going to come more from

[37:20] management yeah and the city planners uh but i i

[37:24] don't think there's a problem with buying from the council

[37:27] okay yeah i mean again i don't know how much

[37:31] a design cost would be just for to design the parking lot by no means build

[37:35] it but i think if you just had a general design and everybody was happy with the

[37:40] design and it wasn't going to cut into that .33

[37:44] acres i mean

[37:46] does your plan allow for parking along the tracks in addition to the park or

[37:52] would that negate all the parking along there

[37:55] um there's street side parking but

[37:59] i've seen some really amazing parking plans that have worked

[38:04] on the current parking footprint we have

[38:08] so you know again if it's

[38:12] if we could take all those plans that we have looked at and then maybe see if we

[38:17] could have them actually designed and come up with you know something council

[38:22] would like or a campus parking lot then you know

[38:26] maybe that's the ticket and then just have it in our pocket knowing that

[38:30] that's what we'll build when we can afford to do that

[38:34] yeah i mean and if you can sell it that i would think a lot of people use those

[38:38] parks before and after work that parking could be utilized you know

[38:44] when maybe a lot of the city employees have gone home

[38:47] um you know if they're concerned about

[38:51] parking yeah and let me tell you that dog pot is

[38:55] so excited so honestly the maintenance would be so minimum they want to take

[39:01] care of the dog bags they'll take care of bringing in bart ships the volunteers

[39:06] they they said that they have over 400 hours a month

[39:11] of volunteers on all the dog parks in the area and so

[39:16] you know there's just a lot of really awesome momentum that we could get with

[39:20] the dog park so

[39:23] so that's dog park stuff and so we have a guest tonight too so i

[39:42] so one of the things that kathy has been talking to us about is

[39:48] having some rock painting and it just seems like a rock painting

[39:53] garden would go hand in hand and so i have asked her to send me some of these

[40:03] rock painting and

[40:06] one other little side note i ate about the community garden we have the um

[40:11] daycare candies daycare right up the street that has two garden plots

[40:16] and they're going to have an end of season party so um that should they're

[40:21] thinking that the party was going to be sometime in september the first part of

[40:24] september and so one of the things i would like to

[40:28] do is maybe have some of our little gardeners become

[40:32] utilize the maybe garden the painting of the rocks so

[40:37] um so cathy is there anything you would like to add

[40:40] well i know we're excited to put something together

[40:45] and um and i think i mentioned you michelle to

[40:49] have the garden outside the fence where people can walk by and see it and

[40:55] put rocks in it instead of having to have a key to go

[41:09] um the only thing that i was thinking is if

[41:12] we were to continue with maybe the metal garden beds like we have inside just for

[41:16] maintenance issues even though these are very beautiful they're sometimes

[41:21] decomposed and with being wood so can you can those be layered or tapered

[41:30] um they have all sorts of really in really nice ones so i can send a few

[41:36] examples to you of the metal ones okay

[41:40] because my thought was just to be able to get a real good view of the different

[41:44] rocks the beds weren't layered

[41:50] but yes that's whatever

[41:55] uh you guys want to do we are willing to do it and help

[41:59] and i do have the benches and the table that we had donated

[42:06] um so people can sit outside and eat the table i thought the

[42:11] kids could paint rocks come young with their family

[42:16] clean up the little table and then put their rock there

[42:32] will move it forward and another thought we had was to have

[42:37] hopefully before maybe in september is have a painting in the plaza

[42:43] to start collecting some rocks so to have kids come

[42:48] they could paint a rock to take home and paint a rock to donate

[42:52] and then we'll just kind of hang on to the rocks until

[42:55] we have an opening and then we'll have rocks to put inside

[43:00] so that was it was a thought

[43:21] and so the community garden and elizabeth park

[43:33] so i read about how you hang them on trees and you can't just nail them into

[43:39] the tree because you will damage said tree and you're supposed to use rope and

[43:45] hang them or whatever so i did not do that

[43:49] and i thought also too i can't really get to said trees in kerr park because

[43:54] of all of the ivy and the blackberries i'm sure karen can attest to it's pretty

[43:59] tall in there um

[44:01] so i did put them up at upper half away there are some along the

[44:06] fence line so when you drive down to lower hathaway and look up you see them

[44:11] they face out towards the river um not towards the park because i

[44:16] figured birds would use them better that way there's only a few up there and then

[44:21] i put quite a few in elizabeth park along the back fence wall where there's

[44:26] ivy and stuff um there's the neighbors on the other

[44:30] side have a pretty high fence as well as ours so i figured that'd be a good spot

[44:36] and then we hung quite a few at the community garden i noticed that there

[44:41] are a few more that just kind of appeared in the garage

[44:46] so i thought if we wanted to we could even hang some at heartwood throughout

[44:52] the park um using that rope method that i was talking about

[44:57] yeah now that that sounds awesome so yeah again i would like to kind of do a

[45:02] little thank you out to the kids and take a picture of all the places we put

[45:07] them so they can see where their art is located so yeah we've got a lot of

[45:11] compliments on them even from kids you know they just think they're pretty cool

[45:15] and to know that they've come from other kids i think kind of adds to that

[45:20] yep for sure who gave i was going to ask who paints

[45:24] those um i think it's the high school kids

[45:28] yeah um so one of the art teachers um is having the kids paint them and then

[45:34] they bring them in so yeah i think is how it worked was the supplies were

[45:39] donated to them and they created them and what not kind of like as a project

[45:44] and painted them and then submitted them back to us yeah and i think rose went

[45:49] and picked them up from the school well if you ever wanted to do a project

[45:54] like that where kids paint them the paint roller would love to do that for

[45:59] the kids awesome yeah i would have a big paint party with

[46:04] painting those and then have them set up and they can go and

[46:06] look at it through the year or whatever

[46:10] yeah love it so kathy you might recognize this oh yes

[46:19] um i don't know if everybody remembers but last year we bought a movie screen

[46:23] for our park and recreation program and then with covid and we haven't really

[46:28] had the opportunity to use our recreation

[46:41] um it's the 18th i think july 18th i believe somewhere around there yeah so

[46:47] we have another movie um this saturday and the movie will be beethoven

[46:58] last movie for the season no they moved it i'm sorry it's

[49:07] to be on monday night so we'll be kind of determining um the last workshop of

[49:14] where we are with the rates um just so everybody knows we kind of

[49:18] have a big difference between planning commission and council and where the

[49:22] rates should be so

[49:25] um this i'm not sure if i had shena park

[49:28] boards this kind of schematics before but right here washable is about 1 550

[49:35] where every other city except woodland is above us

[49:39] we have not increased our rate for 14 years so it definitely needs to be

[49:43] increased the question is by how much and that's

[49:47] kind of what we have been talking about um this is what we landed on as far as

[49:54] the staff recommendations we kind of had to find a middle ground between what

[49:59] council was hoping to see and what the planning commission

[50:03] again it's not quite the best middle place but

[50:07] somebody had to like at least pick something and so this is

[50:11] what we'll be presenting so we'll kind of be sharing the feedback that we got

[50:14] from the planning commission we'll be sharing the feedback we've got from

[50:17] council um our consultants will be there on

[50:21] monday night and then this will prepare us for the

[50:24] park impact hearing which will be september 13th

[50:29] i just have to add the council wanting to keep it commensurate with the other

[50:34] cities and the planning commission wanting to

[50:36] keep it a little lower yes thank you michelle that's all right

[50:44] so yeah so it you know it'll be very

[50:46] interesting to see how my day goes but um you know i'm excited no matter what

[50:51] we can only go up from here so i know that

[50:58] um so a lot of questions about the disc golf course so we've had some really

[51:02] exciting things start happening this gentleman right here avery jenkins

[51:07] he's from this gulf park it's a professional company

[51:11] he's got an amazing portfolio i can send everybody if they'd like to see it kind

[51:16] of the parks he's designed in the past most of the parks that he has designed

[51:21] have been like a hundred thousand dollar disc golf parks

[51:24] our budget was like way smaller so um basically what he's going to be doing

[51:30] is coming in and taking a look at our entire course

[51:34] finding um what a safe course looks like for us and then making sure that

[51:40] all our signs and everything are very well directing so we can have people go

[51:45] know exactly what pad goes to which disc golf basket

[51:51] and so i'm really excited about this whole

[51:54] process and again i think avery is going to be great to work with

[51:58] once we get the the design of the course from avery i'm hoping that i'll be able

[52:04] to bring that to the council or to the park board and have you guys review it

[52:09] and then along with that design comes an environmental study so i need to have

[52:16] the design before i can meet with the environmental groups because they can't

[52:20] really determine anything unless they know what we're planning on doing so

[52:25] that's kind of the order how all of this has transpired um

[52:30] a perfect world would have the disc golf course built by um october and also just

[52:36] so everybody knows that this golf is no longer going to be

[52:40] 18 holes it will be nine so again with kind of our current

[52:44] footprint and the less impact to the park we are going to land on nine

[52:50] um michelle i have a question i it's because i haven't really been

[52:55] engaged with the the um engagement has there been engagement with the community

[53:01] member or members that were opposed to this

[53:05] is it is that

[53:07] why this is shrinking and were there initially uh post put up and

[53:13] then taken down or have the ones that were there

[53:16] stayed there um all great questions so the

[53:21] there's um six baskets that have actually been

[53:24] installed the bathroom will be able to be pulled out

[53:28] and re-um submitted wherever we find the best design happens the other thing

[53:34] is the foundations were kind of so we just have boxes with gravel out

[53:39] there right now for each of the pads the goal is to move those once the

[53:45] designer comes in and determines where they best are

[53:48] suited and then

[53:50] we have a contractor that will pour the pads and

[53:54] we'll probably have to go through a little bit of a super review and

[53:58] all the permitting process um along

[54:01] in this process so um we have a lot of property that is no

[54:07] longer designated as wetlands just because

[54:11] you know things change after it's been 10 to 15 years

[54:15] so i walked around with them for quite a long time to kind of take a look at the

[54:19] entire property and again we want to do what's you know

[54:24] respecting the land and making sure that we find a course that works well for the

[54:29] neighbors and for the disc golf community

[54:33] so that's that's our goal in this whole process

[54:37] so and it had had our intentions always been to have a designer or

[54:42] initially it wasn't and then we got this little bit of a push back

[54:47] and then that's how the designer came along

[54:50] um it just happened so fast i i i didn't know that whole

[54:56] so we had um somebody who came in and had um

[55:01] done a lot of disc golf courses and so basically um kind of stepping back and

[55:07] looking at it we probably should have gone the professional designer right

[55:12] away doing what we ended up doing

[55:15] again there was a lot of lessons learned through this process

[55:19] um yeah a lot of things i would truly do

[55:22] different on this project um you know but

[55:26] we are where we are and um we're going to make it a nine hole it's you know we

[55:32] had over 200 people up at heartwood over a weekend um wanting to play disc golf

[55:37] so i think again it's another driver for the community and

[55:42] you know bringing people to our community

[55:45] so and so the person complaining do they know about the changed plans and are

[55:50] they happy with what's going on so we don't actually have a plan yet until

[55:55] avery comes out which should be in the next week or so and then he is also

[55:59] doing some outreach in his contract to meet with the neighbors and

[56:04] propose what we're planning on doing okay i mean yeah i mean we don't

[56:09] do flips because one person's unhappy but i you know they seem like they were

[56:15] starting to organize against it so that'll be nice if we

[56:19] engage them yeah

[56:22] other thing it was a perfect storm with the bridge closing yeah yeah

[56:27] so michelle i was going to comment too i've

[56:31] asked um i'm trying to locate or figure out who the president or who the person

[56:38] is within those neighborhood associations

[56:43] heartwood and eldridge so that then we can do a meet in the park or some sort

[56:48] of an update to let them know some of the things that

[56:52] they do have questions on so that will be a good way to outreach yep and i've

[56:56] already got all the contacts and i've reached out

[56:59] several times so i will get that to us so we can start planning um i might even

[57:06] you know just because you're part of the heart would park and

[57:10] maybe have you and karen it was karen on the heartwood park too

[57:15] she was on every park you were michelle oh dear

[57:20] okay you and i as the ambassadors and will probably um you know

[57:25] meet with avery and then that way we can work with the community the

[57:29] neighborhoods with him on that so yeah perfect i think they would be um

[57:34] very pleased to be able to have that information firsthand some

[57:39] input and be able to see what direction it's going and awesome yeah i think so

[57:44] too so i mean it's going to be a great project so

[57:48] um one of the things that i'm hoping to take to council in the next

[57:52] couple council meetings is all the before and after things that we've done

[57:56] within our parks and we're right now working on adopting our budget and doing

[58:02] some pmp projects that are going into council so

[58:06] i haven't been able to get in the council schedule yet

[58:09] but again we've done a lot of really great things and

[58:14] so this is just some of the examples so we have this is our memorial bench we

[58:19] also have one already installed and it just turned i mean it's just absolutely

[58:23] beautiful um we have a lot of our benches

[58:26] installed except the one that they pulled out of the park which was sad

[58:31] um i'm gonna be sending you guys some

[58:34] updates on like a cemetery stuff um we're going to be doing some changing

[58:39] within kind of our our maintenance group

[58:43] so i'm hoping that we can utilize some of our maintenance staff up at the

[58:47] cemetery and have them help us out with the parks a little bit it's all general

[58:52] fund it's all one group so

[58:55] again i'm just trying to utilize our resources the best we can so

[59:01] you know we have both resources for both cemetery and the

[59:05] parks

[59:07] and the reason i'm showing this fence is because i was looking at the man hours

[59:12] it took us to paint sand this down and repainted each year and we now have a

[59:17] vinyl fence so i at least earned several hours out of the cemetery to get back

[59:21] that person back in park so

[59:26] so again kind of keeping with the signage and

[59:30] making everything all clean and looking the same within the cemetery too so

[59:36] um we've done some amazing things thank you rochelle with reflection plaza so

[59:42] this was um one of the parks that rochelle

[59:46] is ambassador for and we did a cleanup and um

[59:50] it really turned out absolutely amazing so again we had lots of weeds this is

[59:54] the rose bushes before we cleaned them up but this is what it looks like now

[59:59] so it just turned out amazing there's lights that light up the gazebo which we

[1:00:04] dug down and put rocks around because i didn't even know that those lights were

[1:00:07] there so that was pretty exciting again just some more before and after

[1:00:12] pictures our roses were kind of at the end of their lives so we have new fresh

[1:00:17] roses in there

[1:00:20] and just more before and after pictures

[1:00:25] and so we also had grass along this area um we put in bark dust and

[1:00:31] ornamental grasses and so on monday we are going to have

[1:00:36] concrete poured right in this area and put in two more benches for sitting area

[1:00:42] and then our water fountain for the dog is now working so again this whole

[1:00:48] project was super fun to do and it just turned out beautifully so

[1:00:53] so thank you everybody for your help uh community garden again i just kind of

[1:00:59] wanted to like show the before and after of where we were with the community

[1:01:03] garden i know there has been a lot of things coming up on next door and some

[1:01:08] different things one of the things that i think is really

[1:01:11] important to remember on this community garden is when we purchased this goal

[1:01:16] was to be a downtown park we had gone after a grant

[1:01:20] and so this has been part of the transportation

[1:01:24] future development and this has always been earmarked to be a park

[1:01:28] and instead of having this lot set empty we ended up doing some work to make it

[1:01:33] into a community garden and the community garden actual

[1:01:38] cost just because the getting cost has come

[1:01:41] up a lot on this garden um we ended up adding a playground which

[1:01:47] again it would have been a vacant lot possibly where you know transients would

[1:01:51] be living and you know not being used to the way it is being used now

[1:01:58] and it also has been beneficial because the community is being able to grow and

[1:02:04] plant plants and you know have healthy fruits and vegetables

[1:02:09] you know just again as a community that could really use you know this type of

[1:02:13] garden so um you know

[1:02:16] not everybody's gonna love the project but there are so many good reasons why a

[1:02:22] community garden is so important to a community and

[1:02:27] i'm super happy with what what has transpired so

[1:02:31] um yeah is i i just want to mention real quick

[1:02:34] michelle um that we have had a community uh a family in the community contact the

[1:02:40] city and they are proposing to put a memorial

[1:02:45] bench it's going to be the same bench that michelle just showed

[1:02:49] pictures of that's actually installed at the cemetery it has the memorial

[1:02:54] um laser cut into the back of the bench and they're proposing to put that

[1:03:00] outside of the community garden because their family owned the building across

[1:03:04] the street and it used to be a ballet center back in the day

[1:03:08] so we should be seeing that application shortly the family pays for the bench

[1:03:14] and we order it from buell and then um our

[1:03:18] city staff will just install it when it comes so that's something to look

[1:03:21] forward to what what are the prices of those

[1:03:25] benches again and you said they are standardized correct yeah yeah and it's

[1:03:30] about i believe it's about two thousand dollars i think

[1:03:33] it was oh fourteen hundred dollars for the bench is that what it was yeah i i

[1:03:38] think it was a little bit more though because the single the shipping kind of

[1:03:41] jacked up a little bit unfortunately uh so this will be kind of the same deal so

[1:03:46] it should be right around there was this was that the new thing that

[1:03:51] we had kind of started under with suzanne uh that package of naming things

[1:03:56] or has this always been in the code so

[1:04:00] suzanne kind of started something up at the cemetery to where they could do

[1:04:05] planters and benches uh and then they've done like concrete benches in the past

[1:04:10] but um when michelle came on instead of doing the standard concrete benches with

[1:04:15] the small memorial plaque we kind of went more with the metal bench

[1:04:19] okay you know i mean i like it don't get me yeah wear and tear i've been pushing

[1:04:23] for for a long time i was just wondering where in the code or what document it

[1:04:29] explains all this is it in the cemetery one then or the parks no michelle

[1:04:34] actually created a new document for parks and cemeteries so it's a joint

[1:04:40] document for uh donations and it proposes bench or tree you know whatever

[1:04:46] you would like to donate and then it does come in for approval and then we

[1:04:51] invoice them for the cost of whatever um and yeah

[1:04:55] beautiful okay it's got the um pictures on the application so you clearly see

[1:05:01] what you know the items look like so again that's that makes it a lot easier

[1:05:05] because um i think hathaway is probably the best

[1:05:08] example of kind of a mishmash of a lot of different things

[1:05:12] so um you know again it just kind of

[1:05:15] standardizes it and

[1:05:20] great yeah and they they turn out nice uh the one up at the cemetery is in the

[1:05:25] scatter garden if y'all would like to um look at that uh feel free to stop by it

[1:05:31] does take a few months to order them and everything um rachelle did you have a

[1:05:35] question or a statement it did design a community garden two questions and and

[1:05:39] could we budget maybe next year for to put a fence on when you're looking at

[1:05:43] the playground on the left so it separates

[1:05:45] those houses from the playground so people on the playground don't feel like

[1:05:49] they're intrusive to those any other way around

[1:05:53] and then my second thought is when we're looking at the community garden on the

[1:05:56] right outside the fence as we've probably heard there's a lot of people

[1:06:00] who would love free gardens and i know it comes with

[1:06:03] that and i know the problems we've had in the past but maybe if it wasn't too

[1:06:07] expensive we could put a few garden beds on the outside there that those that pay

[1:06:11] for a lot like if i have extra tomato seeds or whatever i just kind of grow

[1:06:16] something over there and it's for anyone in the community to go and pick

[1:06:19] something or have at it and not have to pay to be in

[1:06:23] the garden but those that participate in the garden kind of have a

[1:06:27] commitment that we would maintain that as well

[1:06:30] it's not a bad idea it might cut down on some of the

[1:06:38] happens regardless of of where the garden is we had that in the past right

[1:06:42] so that might help with that it's a good idea so kelly if you

[1:06:46] remember we had some um garden boxes that weren't the same

[1:06:51] size as the rest of them and i think it was about six of them we were gonna

[1:06:55] replace and then we could reuse the other ones

[1:06:58] and put them out in that area that rochelle's talking

[1:07:02] about and i'd like to address the fence issue

[1:07:05] i love the fence issue the only thing that i would put there though is a split

[1:07:09] rail the reason being is because the

[1:07:13] neighbors are i mean it's like right along their

[1:07:17] deck is where our property ends and so they'd almost walk right into a fence

[1:07:23] because we did talk about that but i think delineating the space and actually

[1:07:28] having a little bit more of the split rail on our property so it's not making

[1:07:33] them feel like they just stepped right out the door and

[1:07:37] there's a city so

[1:07:39] i know exactly what you're saying but when we looked at it it was like oh man

[1:07:43] yeah i figured there was a reason but i thought i would ask and yeah if we have

[1:07:47] any spare garden beds that we could put on the outside of the fence i mean i'll

[1:07:52] help wherever possible of course yes thank well

[1:07:55] there will be some pictures of split rail fences here shortly too so i tell

[1:08:00] you what i might look nice so

[1:08:03] um this one is like a true improvement story so sandy swimming hole just looks

[1:08:09] absolutely hideous so i mean it had deteriorated at rust

[1:08:13] so i was so happy how the painting ended up turning out so i don't know if

[1:08:18] anybody's gone out there to take a look but this is also anti-graffiti paint

[1:08:22] so we're definitely testing that

[1:08:25] anti-graffiti um power to make sure we can wipe down

[1:08:29] these things but so far we've been pretty successful um i

[1:08:33] think upper hathaway inside was tagged and we

[1:08:37] had a little bit of trouble getting the graffiti off but the guy who helped

[1:08:41] paint everything ended up coming out and helping us with something so we were

[1:08:45] able to get that graffiti off so yeah that's amazing you can't even tell

[1:08:49] it's the same building yeah i was super happy with that so

[1:08:54] again just more before and after pictures i mean this is what the

[1:08:57] bathroom looked like this is what it looks like now and then if everybody

[1:09:01] remembers this is where the homeless were living because we had the vents and

[1:09:05] now we have full doors so it's just beautiful so um the before and

[1:09:12] after pictures of the upper hathaway we had

[1:09:15] moss and gutters dripping right in front of the

[1:09:19] doors now we have a clean fresh

[1:09:23] bathroom so it just turned out really nice

[1:09:28] again just some more pictures of the tables and new signage that we have so

[1:09:33] um i have to say the one of the funniest things was um i had a cemetery board

[1:09:38] meeting and mickey looked at our signs and she

[1:09:40] she was like well i didn't know we had this one rule on there and kelly's like

[1:09:44] yeah it's always been on there and she's like well our signs were so faded you

[1:09:48] couldn't even see what the sign said so again it was time to switch out our

[1:09:54] signs so at least now you can kind of see some of the rules and regulations

[1:10:00] um here is some pictures of hathaway um park after it got painted the barn is

[1:10:06] now a little bit brighter or darker burgundy

[1:10:09] and this is as of today so this is part of our

[1:10:14] disc golf course we wanted to make sure that everybody

[1:10:17] we had a split rail fence up there so the playground is a little bit protected

[1:10:22] and so we'll also have some other safety items put in place but

[1:10:27] this just turned out so beautiful because it fits with the barn

[1:10:32] and the playground theme so that's that's as of today

[1:10:37] probably two hours ago nice

[1:10:40] so so i think michelle that way or michelle that would be a really nice um

[1:10:45] thing to maybe do that you had mentioned and it's pretty

[1:10:48] inexpensive which is yeah that would be nice

[1:10:52] nice for both sides

[1:10:56] uh again just some more improvements that we've done and all of this is

[1:11:02] things that you have all seen but um i would like to this is all our before and

[1:11:06] afters for um council so they can see i've been trying to do the best i can to

[1:11:11] document everything that we have done so the merry-go-round is new the swings

[1:11:16] are new that porta potty is just fine hasn't

[1:11:19] been ran over

[1:11:23] again the hamlet park

[1:11:26] bathrooms will be changing a little bit i haven't taken a picture since they

[1:11:30] painted the roof but the roof is no longer red so it's

[1:11:34] kind of all the darker gray color and then all the

[1:11:37] walls are one color so it's no longer looks like this inside

[1:11:44] steamboat landing again the waterfront trail is now

[1:11:48] complete so it's beautiful if you get a chance to go

[1:11:52] and walk it it's it just turned out awesome

[1:11:55] and then this is before and after pictures of steamboat

[1:11:59] landing so we painted the doors and got those cleaned up too

[1:12:04] and the waterfront trail they've got the picnic tables benches out

[1:12:09] i think they have a black iron fence right now out here now that they put in

[1:12:13] i haven't been out there since but um the trail is amazing

[1:12:18] one of the things that chemists and what should well and the port are all trying

[1:12:23] to do is um we're trying to gear all our special

[1:12:26] events so they complement each other and the port is wanting to do some sort of

[1:12:32] scavenger hunt around the holidays on our waterfront trail to get people to

[1:12:37] utilize it so as i learn about

[1:12:40] these events and as we meet on a regular basis with the other directors of parks

[1:12:46] i will make sure i bring that information

[1:12:49] and also make sure i invite um the you know the our our co-op groups

[1:12:55] to come to these meetings and talk about some of the things that we're trying to

[1:12:58] do but we would like to work with the

[1:13:01] chamber and have kind of like you know you can watch christmas ships you can do

[1:13:06] a scavenger hunt on our waterfront trail um canvas will be doing a tree lighting

[1:13:12] on this night um washable will be doing a tree

[1:13:15] lighting on this night and when our parade is

[1:13:19] and also i just recently learned that our parade is the only parade christmas

[1:13:23] parade um in this area so that was kind of cool too so

[1:13:31] um kelly and i are going to be swamped here

[1:13:34] shortly so um we will be getting our grant money

[1:13:38] for the cdbg so we are going to be starting on getting everything out for

[1:13:43] hamlet so based on everything i am really

[1:13:48] kicking myself i wish this basketball court was a full court based on

[1:13:53] especially the camps and all the

[1:13:56] needs we've been having for a full court but i think this is going to be an

[1:14:00] absolute beautiful half court um

[1:14:04] i'm going to do minimum replacement of some of the

[1:14:08] bike park parts just so again they're safe and we can make sure that they're

[1:14:12] not overlapped like this one and this is the playground that was

[1:14:18] picked so we've got everything ready to go so

[1:14:21] as soon as the money is awarded we will go ahead and start ordering on this

[1:14:26] playground and this is a overview of the playground

[1:14:32] so we have swings um and other really cute elements

[1:14:37] within the playground looks great michelle is there going to

[1:14:41] be any money left over for trees on the perimeter of this park

[1:14:46] you know i think we're going to be pretty good i think we will probably be

[1:14:50] able to do the trees um i bought some trees that we've been keeping in opp's

[1:14:55] yard that i would like to do after we've done

[1:14:58] the construction plant the trees but just because we've had such hot weather

[1:15:03] i'm kind of protecting them and yeah yeah

[1:15:06] we keep them safe until the fall and then we'll start planting them in the

[1:15:09] fall i'm really excited about this park those

[1:15:13] folks deserve a good park on that part of on that side of town there's nothing

[1:15:17] over there that's nice yeah yep so um we're hoping to maybe um

[1:15:23] take down the community shed the the red one because it's it's kind of falling

[1:15:28] apart and there's nothing in it anymore so we're going to take that down

[1:15:32] so we can get ready for construction and then there's the dirt from the bike park

[1:15:38] and we will be removing that here shortly too and getting that ready so

[1:15:43] the park will be all prepped and ready to go as soon as we can start ordering

[1:15:46] stuff so

[1:15:49] yeah and the community actually voted on that playground rose had a spanish night

[1:15:55] at the park with the school district and we created a poster board and let all

[1:15:59] the people vote i think we ended up having 56 people vote and that was the

[1:16:04] one that had the most votes so that was pretty cool

[1:16:08] great

[1:16:11] so i know this doesn't look like much here

[1:16:14] with the bleachers down at hathaway but this is an absolute horrible project

[1:16:20] so these bleachers were falling apart it was completely uneven and so we had this

[1:16:26] amazing contractor that came in pulled these out got everything level

[1:16:31] and poured the concrete slabs so right now if you go down to hathaway you will

[1:16:35] see the concrete slabs but we are hoping it needs to cure and then once it's done

[1:16:41] curing we'll be putting in these brand new bleachers

[1:16:45] so that will really um you know be a nice adder to the lower hathaway

[1:16:53] um let's see this is another really interesting twist so

[1:16:58] will and i have been like just going with the flow with everything that's

[1:17:02] been happening lately but boy finding vendors has been really tricky

[1:17:06] so we sent out a 120 pickleball court resurfacing quote so that was almost

[1:17:13] every person on the mrsc nobody wanted to bid on it so it was like what do we

[1:17:19] do so we ended up the pickleball people we

[1:17:23] ended up working with this company called house construction we talked to

[1:17:27] them a lot about how to redo this um

[1:17:30] pickleball court so um

[1:17:34] i if just to remind everybody that we got fifteen thousand dollars from the

[1:17:38] pickleball club and then we also have um kelly was your grant 15 000 i believe

[1:17:45] and i i want to say that they gave us they were talking about giving us

[1:17:48] another thousand uh so it might be 16. okay awesome so

[1:17:54] so the thing then that we were looking at and kelly don't let me forget to talk

[1:17:57] about your grant that you just applied for too oh yeah okay

[1:18:01] um so we ended up contacting the howell construction they have come out they've

[1:18:05] taken a look at a courts and they have a suggestion of doing this differently so

[1:18:10] just to remind everybody the resurfacing of the court was going to last five

[1:18:14] years so now the thing that we're looking at

[1:18:17] doing is pulling all the forefoot fencing fencing between the pickleball

[1:18:22] courts and the nuts out and ending up putting in asphalt

[1:18:26] um over the top of the cir the court and then we would be putting in then the

[1:18:32] painting and designing of the pickleball court over that

[1:18:36] so with this new fix it cost about thirty thousand dollars more but instead

[1:18:41] of buying it's just five years it will buy us 15 to 20 years

[1:18:46] so um

[1:18:48] you know it's going to be a lot better bang for our money

[1:18:52] if you want to talk about what the most popular infrastructure is within the

[1:18:56] parks it's pickleball there is no question i don't know if you guys have

[1:19:00] driven it by at any time of the day there's

[1:19:04] um a group like in line waiting to get on the courts which is just amazing so

[1:19:11] so um what jen has asked me to do our finance

[1:19:14] director is i'm going to get the quote and the updated quote with the asphalt

[1:19:20] and then i'm going to submit it as a decision package for to that well it'll

[1:19:23] probably be a supplemental maybe this year

[1:19:26] and then see if we can go ahead and do this longer lasting fix for the

[1:19:30] pickleball courts and then move forward with that so um i

[1:19:35] just wanted to make sure everybody knows that we haven't stopped moving on this

[1:19:40] another thing to note is september 11th the pickleball court

[1:19:44] group is going to be having their pickleball court events at

[1:19:49] the court and we also will be installing august 26

[1:19:54] i think will correct me if i'm wrong um the water fountain for the pickleball

[1:19:58] courts so there will be a water fountain kind

[1:20:01] of out by the parking lot where they'll be able to

[1:20:05] have water so that's been something they've been

[1:20:08] asking for for a long time so nice

[1:20:13] yeah so wow 55 slides okay new grant yeah new grants

[1:20:22] let me talk about it or you no i was gonna my my throats i've talked

[1:20:26] a lot oh okay so we had an opportunity to apply for another grant through the

[1:20:33] clark county parks foundation uh kind of like what we did for the pickleball

[1:20:37] courts and so we talked about it and we decided to write one for lower hathaway

[1:20:42] for a new uh slide structure um the lower hathaway has brackets right

[1:20:49] now on the slide that are broken it's 20 years old so we can't even get

[1:20:53] replacement parts for it dylan emailed me i believe it was yesterday and said

[1:20:58] that the grant has been approved and it's moving on to the fundraising

[1:21:02] portion so um so now we just wait and see uh and

[1:21:07] we wait till april is when it will be announced um how much they did in their

[1:21:12] fundraising and what they are able to award to the projects so i i'm excited

[1:21:18] um it just means that you know we will be

[1:21:21] able to get something i just don't know how much they'll be able to fundraise so

[1:21:26] we'll have to wait and see i asked for sixteen thousand

[1:21:30] um so we'll see what what they say it's exciting though hopefully we get a

[1:21:36] new slide down there yeah the other thing just to note is

[1:21:41] east county little league might be coming to the council meeting on monday

[1:21:46] and they will be talking about some fundraising activities that they would

[1:21:50] like to do on the schmidt baseball field again a property that is owned by the

[1:21:55] school district so again we would love to continue to

[1:22:00] promote their fundraising activities to put new infrastructure into places but

[1:22:05] we also have a baseball field that they utilize down at lower hathaway

[1:22:10] and lower hathaway park is something the city owns so again if we can kind of see

[1:22:15] if they're interested in just putting in a playground that this could be an

[1:22:20] awesome opportunity to have them you know maybe especially now that they're

[1:22:24] interested in helping us fund the grant the park grant

[1:22:28] great

[1:25:07] uh the intention is to keep them incur the entire time barring any wind so

[1:25:12] we'll see so long time coming so hopefully that is

[1:25:16] something that continues and it sounds like uh we there's a chance we'll get

[1:25:20] them every other week for a day or two so we'll see

[1:25:29] the gate oh yeah we had a tree fall on that early

[1:25:34] last winter i believe from the school district property uh clobbered half that

[1:25:38] fence pretty good so that's going to be repaired i believe next week

[1:25:43] and the trails the trails are still open and though we maintain the trails um the

[1:25:47] estuary group i piled about 10 cubic yards of

[1:25:52] wood chips in there this week for the group they're going to be doing this

[1:25:55] fall again that's the north section of the park they've got thousands of

[1:25:58] plantings um for all all heights of the canopy all native it's pretty amazing so

[1:26:03] they're excited about that they're going to check it out tuesday i can get some

[1:26:06] more this is actually from my event that happened in uh city camas so we're

[1:26:10] getting some free wood chips and uh looking forward to getting the

[1:26:14] estuary group back in there and a little more work done on uncur this fall so

[1:26:18] very nice

[1:26:31] year it's i've been sitting on this board for a long time and

[1:26:35] the amount of stuff we've gotten done this year is just amazing so thank you

[1:27:10] do as much as we can with our limited resources but you know i would like to

[1:27:21] it didn't happen for the fall and i have to say you know the stats on

[1:27:26] covet is kind of you know i feel like what we're doing is perfect based on

[1:27:31] code still snakes sticking around so you know eventually these are goals for the

[1:27:37] future but i don't want either of you to think that i'm not i haven't followed up

[1:27:41] on that yet so i just want to wait until we kind of get

[1:27:45] it's some balanced with covet

[1:27:48] sounds good

[1:27:59] changes and the things there's just a ton of projects that have been

[1:28:16] again it's kind of overwhelming but the opportunity to now get the

[1:28:23] outreach i'm excited about that to be able to um

[1:28:28] really communicate and get feedback um as to what people are liking what

[1:28:34] they're needing i think that's going to go a long ways as well so

[1:28:38] yeah well you know we've learned a lot too with these postcards that we just

[1:28:42] send out and that might be a good way to

[1:28:45] communicate with the neighborhood with the door knocker

[1:28:48] when we do kind of roll out the disc golf so

[1:28:52] you know they can see what the new course looks like and what we're doing i

[1:28:56] think that's a good way to

[1:28:59] reach out to everybody so i mean i'm not ever going to make

[1:29:04] everybody happy but i can try right

[1:29:08] hey we hit 50 we're doing good yeah this is an exciting board to be on

[1:29:13] now there's lots happening yeah i know this is super great so

[1:29:20] i'm just um the the difference that people are going

[1:29:25] to see you know uh you know here with another shutdown coming at us you know

[1:29:30] that we've heard for state of washington and the

[1:29:33] the changes and stuff i just think that it's going to

[1:29:37] be an exciting time for people as we get out and can actually get together

[1:29:42] um we might still have some challenges with

[1:29:46] the meetings with some of the people and stuff but i was just thinking at least

[1:29:50] if we do it at a park we've got outside and open spaces and

[1:29:55] hopefully we can um answer some of the questions so

[1:29:59] yeah that's it like you said communication at least just

[1:30:02] communicating and getting the information out there will definitely

[1:30:06] benefit us and and having avery and the

[1:30:11] environmental people communicating maybe even if it's just flyers or whatever to

[1:30:16] the people and whatnot you know um it definitely would be better

[1:30:22] than how it went last time so yeah i'm looking forward to that

[1:30:25] yeah perfect so one of the things we like to do next

[1:30:29] time is do our election and um i did have one volunteer for president so i

[1:30:34] just want to share this with everybody so barb did raise her hand so

[1:31:53] sure i note and it was a comment that rochelle had and um i had reached out to

[1:31:58] a lady named barbara ryder who is the washoe lowell

[1:32:02] um canvas westfield community garden group

[1:32:06] and it seems like our community garden president which i've kind of quietly

[1:32:11] named her because she started the website

[1:32:14] of the community garden is tia and so i sent her the information because

[1:32:20] um we have a group that would like to bring

[1:32:23] in some master gardening classes to our garden and so i think she

[1:32:28] was going to reach out and try to get some schedule with the group

[1:32:32] but again it's amazing they're talking to you

[1:32:36] about the garden group and it just seems like people are helping each other you

[1:32:41] know pick their weeds water their gardens there's this little tag where if

[1:32:46] they want their gardens watered because they can't make it that week that

[1:32:49] there's some sort of little notification so other gardeners will help them with

[1:32:53] it i have volunteer hours where people are putting in two hours of volunteer

[1:32:58] time a season and we've been tracking that so

[1:33:02] you know we haven't even had to have our crew actually go inside the garden to

[1:33:06] pull weeds and stuff and so you know again that's kind of the whole

[1:33:11] community garden and that's what it's there for i mean to have the kids go out

[1:33:15] there and have their end of year party in a barbecue

[1:33:18] and show their parents what they were able to do with the gardener and that's

[1:33:23] that's where it's all about so that's awesome

[1:33:28] so um i guess if you have any additional agenda items or things that you have

[1:33:33] questions about be sure and send those over to michelle

[1:33:37] and if there's not if no one else has any further discussion
