[0:00]
column meeting to order
[0:02]
and we're going to start out by talking
[0:05]
about the open space index
[0:11]
yes
[0:13]
that is your cue I'm just used to those
[0:17]
being the queue so it's our Consultants
[0:19]
are talking
[0:21]
um so good good to see everyone this
[0:23]
evening I know you guys have a busy
[0:24]
agenda doing other things uh so we'll
[0:27]
jump right into it and I'm going to hand
[0:28]
it off to Katie she's got just an update
[0:31]
on kind of where we are with the survey
[0:32]
uh some people express interest in that
[0:34]
uh on our coordination call a week or
[0:37]
two ago so we're going to share with you
[0:38]
where we're at today
[0:40]
yeah so I put a few slides together
[0:42]
they're really more so just placeholders
[0:46]
for conversation
[0:48]
um but give me one second I'll share my
[0:50]
screen
[0:58]
full screen okay
[1:01]
so just a quick refresher on the
[1:04]
schedule before we get into the survey
[1:05]
we're in November this is actually the
[1:08]
fourth time we're meeting
[1:09]
um will be conducting stakeholder
[1:12]
interviews intermittent
[1:14]
imminently excuse me
[1:16]
um and we'll talk a little bit more
[1:17]
about that uh at the end of our
[1:19]
presentation
[1:20]
um we're also preparing for a public
[1:22]
meeting coming up in a few weeks so
[1:24]
that's going to be uh really useful for
[1:26]
us and help uh push the survey a little
[1:29]
bit more and then we're kind of wrapping
[1:32]
up the inventory analysis side of things
[1:33]
and we'll be moving towards uh the
[1:36]
conservation land tool and assessment as
[1:39]
um following the survey wrapping up as
[1:42]
well as once the public meeting is
[1:44]
um said and done
[1:46]
so that's where we're at
[1:48]
as far as our preliminary results from
[1:50]
the survey we've got
[1:52]
127 results so far so not terrible
[1:56]
but we've also got 117 points on the
[1:59]
interactive map which is pretty good
[2:00]
yeah
[2:02]
um and we've also had a decent amount of
[2:04]
people engaging with the like feature on
[2:07]
other people's locations so I think
[2:09]
that'll be some really great like
[2:11]
citizen science science for us to help
[2:14]
kind of direct that conservation land
[2:17]
assessment tool when the time comes so
[2:20]
that's kind of where we're at as far as
[2:23]
um results thus far and Carrie I think
[2:26]
you wanted to talk a little bit about
[2:27]
promoting the survey I know you've got
[2:29]
the mailer going out
[2:31]
um so I don't know if you want to jump
[2:32]
in on that a little bit
[2:34]
sure we have a postcards that are ready
[2:40]
to be nailed I think they got their
[2:42]
check today for the postage down at the
[2:43]
mailbox and so those should be going out
[2:46]
uh to many thousands of households and
[2:50]
then we still have
[2:52]
um quite a few postcards left for
[2:54]
distribution and we'll talk about that
[2:56]
later on in the meeting
[2:58]
um
[3:00]
not sure
[3:03]
um exactly what else you wanted me to
[3:05]
cover at this point Katie nothing I just didn't I know I saw that
[3:09]
promoting the survey was on the agenda
[3:12]
so I didn't know if you wanted to talk
[3:13]
about that now or later on yeah
[3:16]
um I think it's we're gonna need to do a
[3:18]
little
[3:19]
um like fine-tuning in the weeds uh for
[3:23]
some of that so maybe just keep forging
[3:25]
ahead and I don't know
[3:29]
okay that sounds good so yeah so I think
[3:31]
you know
[3:32]
between the postcard mailing and
[3:35]
promoting the survey at our public
[3:36]
meeting
[3:38]
um I'm expecting a pretty significant
[3:39]
uptick in survey responses
[3:44]
so that brings us to our first public
[3:46]
meeting
[3:47]
um
[3:48]
we had a discussion about this a few
[3:51]
days ago maybe a week or so ago at this
[3:53]
point and we decided um
[3:56]
in person would probably be the best
[3:59]
um strategy but we also want to
[4:01]
accommodate anyone who's not comfortable
[4:04]
or able to make it in person on the 15th
[4:07]
so it will be at Town Hall on the 15th
[4:12]
at 7 pm and our preliminary plan is just
[4:15]
to go through a brief presentation of
[4:17]
you know why this plan is important what
[4:20]
to expect moving forward what to expect
[4:22]
the results of this to be
[4:25]
um touch a little bit on what we've
[4:26]
heard so far from survey respondents
[4:29]
um and some of the mapping that's been
[4:31]
completed so far
[4:33]
um so that will be a relatively brief
[4:36]
presentation we'll try to keep it pretty
[4:37]
short to keep people's attention and
[4:39]
then we'd like the bulk of it to be
[4:41]
small breakout groups
[4:44]
um
[4:45]
discussing this vision for open space
[4:48]
will have aerial maps for each breakout
[4:50]
group so we can kind of point to the map
[4:52]
and Mark those up
[4:54]
as needed and then um we'll kind of
[4:57]
regroup at the end and share our results
[5:00]
from our small groups and then send
[5:01]
people on their way
[5:04]
um so we're envisioning that
[5:06]
presentation that is easily translatable
[5:09]
to a virtual option
[5:12]
um but in order for John and I and
[5:14]
everyone facilitating to be really
[5:16]
focused in on the conversations in
[5:18]
person
[5:19]
um we're gonna only have those available
[5:21]
for people in the building that night
[5:24]
but that being said we wanted to offer
[5:26]
another option
[5:28]
um
[5:28]
for those who might not be comfortable
[5:30]
showing up in person so that's where the
[5:33]
Virtual Office hours come in the night
[5:34]
afterwards CJ is creation graciously
[5:37]
offered to host those right before the
[5:39]
town board meeting
[5:40]
um so people will be able to come and
[5:42]
have a similar dialogue
[5:44]
um on that evening so those are kind of
[5:46]
our multi-faceted approach to our first
[5:50]
public meeting and
[5:52]
um John I don't know if you want to add
[5:53]
anything to that or if anyone has any
[5:55]
thoughts no I think you nailed it I
[5:57]
think the only the odd the challenge is
[5:59]
always and and we've done this enough
[6:02]
where we've got a couple plan B's you
[6:04]
know if we get it'd be a nice problem to
[6:06]
have if we get a hundred people at the
[6:08]
meeting then facilitating two groups of
[6:10]
50 I think is you know it's not going to
[6:12]
be productive so in in that scenario we
[6:15]
would either
[6:17]
option A would be to have
[6:19]
I would flow and then they'd have some
[6:21]
of the steering some of your CAC members
[6:23]
facilitate or we can um break into like
[6:26]
almost like an open house uh kind of
[6:28]
situation so we have a lot of bodies in
[6:31]
the room then we'll just have to kind of
[6:32]
be flexible on that be a nice problem to
[6:35]
have
[6:36]
um you know I think we could comfortably
[6:38]
you know get up to say 40 50 people
[6:41]
um that's a pretty comfortable meeting
[6:43]
for Katie United facilitate if we get
[6:45]
beyond that
[6:46]
um you know then we'll just have to kind
[6:47]
of adjust which like I said we've done
[6:49]
it before it'll be fine it's just a nice
[6:51]
problem to have if that happens
[6:56]
so maybe now would be a good time for
[6:59]
CAC members to indicate whether they can
[7:02]
attend and assist
[7:05]
I I can
[7:08]
I'm planning on coming
[7:10]
I am out of town that whole week
[7:18]
I've got called in as Grandpa Duty
[7:23]
here and I I interrupted you go ahead
[7:25]
sorry I'm I'm just saying I'm planning
[7:27]
to be there on the 15th
[7:29]
yeah I've got my yeah I should be able
[7:32]
to be there on the 15 000.
[7:36]
I have an issue where my daughter in New
[7:39]
York City has a nanny disappearing on
[7:41]
them that week and I have to go help
[7:45]
babysit so that's what I'll be doing in
[7:48]
New York City
[7:49]
it's important work too kids two kids
[7:51]
duty calls four and a one-year-old
[7:54]
wish me luck yeah the meeting is going
[7:57]
to be way easier
[8:01]
so it it's Tom Carey Karen Ed is that
[8:05]
what I'm seeing okay
[8:12]
sorry I was just saying I could be there
[8:14]
but I don't know if you need me to be
[8:16]
I don't know what how many people you're
[8:18]
expecting to have at this public meeting
[8:22]
we don't know either we know yeah I
[8:24]
don't think we know but I think it would
[8:26]
be helpful
[8:31]
okay so John and Katie is that enough
[8:34]
for you to work with plenty yeah yes
[8:37]
thank you
[8:37]
[Music]
[8:41]
so
[8:43]
um are you going to show the results so
[8:47]
far with the
[8:49]
um the survey data we have
[8:52]
yes we were planning on doing like a
[8:54]
yeah preliminary this is what we've
[8:56]
heard thus far
[8:58]
this is how many people we've heard from
[9:00]
that kind of keep it pretty high level
[9:01]
but yeah yeah we didn't plan on going
[9:04]
through every question you know question
[9:05]
one question two just being for time's
[9:08]
sake but yeah I think hitting the high
[9:09]
points and some of if there's any Trends
[9:12]
or preliminary I don't like to draw
[9:14]
preliminary conclusions at this time at
[9:15]
this point but we can say where things
[9:17]
seem to be heading at the current time
[9:20]
um so yeah
[9:22]
well with that number of uh survey
[9:24]
results already I think that that's
[9:27]
going to give us a pretty solid idea of
[9:30]
where things are going I think so too
[9:35]
looking over those uh you know what you
[9:39]
have seen of the results are you by and
[9:43]
large seeing a
[9:46]
pro-conservation
[9:48]
bias are you getting people who are
[9:50]
pushing get back against this and and
[9:53]
are
[9:54]
not any anybody not in favor of it I
[9:58]
mean we haven't gone through the data in
[10:00]
any sort of significant way but yeah I'd
[10:03]
say it's definitely leaning heavily
[10:05]
towards pro-conservation at this point
[10:10]
well that's good to hear
[10:14]
oh just it might be interesting to know
[10:16]
what the pushback is you know
[10:19]
um prior to the meeting so we have you
[10:21]
know we're not caught off guard and we
[10:23]
have a little bit of
[10:24]
um
[10:27]
you know maybe a couple of of
[10:31]
thoughts or tools or examples to bring
[10:34]
up to to people
[10:36]
um as as community members I mean I know
[10:38]
you guys are going to see it but if you
[10:39]
don't mind sharing that with us that
[10:41]
would be really great yeah yeah
[10:44]
absolutely and along those lines uh it
[10:47]
would be helpful for those CAC members
[10:49]
who can assist that night in a sense of
[10:53]
the responsibilities ahead of time what
[10:56]
you envision us doing I realized you
[10:58]
don't know exactly how many people are
[10:59]
coming but I think you you've probably
[11:02]
uh done this Rodeo before so you have a
[11:04]
sense of okay how do you want to use us
[11:08]
um and you know what should we be
[11:10]
prepared to do
[11:12]
yeah we can send that along and then
[11:14]
since our since we've gathered one on
[11:16]
the call the meeting starts at seven
[11:18]
right
[11:20]
um I've got so many public meetings in
[11:22]
my head if trying to think one town hall
[11:25]
is gonna open and then it might make
[11:26]
sense for the
[11:28]
six or kd9 and the four or the five to
[11:32]
huddle up beforehand and just kind of I
[11:34]
mean we'll send something out in advance
[11:36]
just kind of you know clip notes but it
[11:39]
might make sense so how to walk just to
[11:40]
make sure everyone's comfortable
[11:42]
so what time town hall is going to close
[11:45]
and open is going to be unlocked from
[11:47]
the day these events I'm just curious I
[11:50]
hear it just never closes there at the
[11:52]
Town Hall it's just continually open CJ
[11:56]
what do you think easy for us to meet
[11:58]
ahead of time
[12:00]
uh it depends on what when you were
[12:03]
looking to get there uh so if you all
[12:07]
wanted to meet say at I don't know 5 30
[12:09]
or something like that we can just let
[12:11]
you in the building the building closes
[12:13]
at 4 pm every day uh Monday through
[12:16]
Thursday
[12:16]
I think six would probably be plenty I
[12:19]
mean it's we're pretty good we can be
[12:21]
set up in 10-15 minutes and then just
[12:24]
going you know walking through with
[12:25]
everyone kind of the plan B that'll take
[12:28]
you know 15 20 minutes tops so I think
[12:30]
you know six o'clock sharp is
[12:32]
plenty of time
[12:35]
so you're gonna have a PowerPoint
[12:38]
presentation just
[12:40]
that was our plan unless you guys were
[12:42]
yeah mainly opposed to it no no that's
[12:45]
fine
[12:46]
um are we going to be able to see that a
[12:48]
day or two ahead of time
[12:51]
sure yeah
[12:53]
great
[12:59]
um how about refreshments
[13:02]
I'm all for them I love refreshments
[13:08]
and
[13:09]
I want to take that
[13:11]
on Tyson
[13:15]
CJ does Town Hall have like a coffee
[13:17]
maker I'm I don't mean like a single pot
[13:18]
coffee maker I mean any kind of group
[13:20]
facility not banquet facilities per se
[13:23]
but like a large coffee maker or
[13:25]
anything in town hall sometimes those
[13:26]
sort of thing around there's a like a
[13:29]
coffee service thing with tea and stuff
[13:32]
like that in the
[13:34]
guess I could characterize it perhaps as
[13:36]
a break room
[13:42]
so I don't know I'm not sure if that's
[13:44]
what you guys are looking for but it
[13:45]
makes hot water and if properly prepared
[13:48]
of course coffee as well
[13:52]
how about
[13:54]
um something like some cider and
[13:57]
little snacks
[14:00]
I I know someone who's very good at
[14:03]
getting donations and so I'm gonna a
[14:05]
nice individual uh to see if we could
[14:08]
possibly
[14:10]
get some some refreshments at this event
[14:16]
unless somebody else wants to do it I I
[14:19]
will uh let's see what I can manage
[14:25]
I could pick up some cider or whatever
[14:28]
at the at the market for the before the
[14:31]
Gathering
[14:33]
okay so I'll I'll chat with you Tom okay
[14:36]
we don't overlap
[14:38]
that sounds good
[14:43]
um I had a question about
[14:46]
um numbers of postcards needed at this
[14:48]
event just in case a few people come but
[14:51]
they don't want to fill out the survey
[14:52]
right then and there are we going to
[14:53]
have paper copies of the survey or
[14:55]
should we hand them the postcard that
[14:57]
has the URL on it because we just so
[15:00]
happen to have plenty
[15:04]
I was looking for a full start
[15:07]
I mean we could have a half a dozen a
[15:10]
dozen hard copies there for people
[15:12]
wanted it I don't think based on
[15:14]
the pop-up event we had a lot of good
[15:16]
conversations but um and then we had a
[15:19]
couple people walk off with in a good
[15:20]
way not want to steal it like walk off
[15:22]
with a written survey but there wasn't
[15:24]
that much of a demand for it most of the
[15:26]
people said oh I'll look online now that
[15:28]
I know
[15:29]
um so I would lean towards having you
[15:31]
know maybe a dozen hard copies and then
[15:33]
just
[15:34]
using the postcard at most
[15:37]
so have maybe 50 on hand
[15:41]
for postcards yeah at the most
[15:45]
I think that's good because even if we
[15:48]
let's say worst case scenario we ran out
[15:51]
of postcards which would be a nice
[15:52]
problem to have
[15:53]
you could ask you can keep the last one
[15:55]
and say hey just take a picture of this
[15:57]
with your phone and now you've got the
[15:59]
code for later
[16:01]
okay and we can show the code on the
[16:03]
screen Katie too and that way people
[16:05]
need to
[16:06]
take a shot of it with their phone they
[16:08]
can yeah
[16:15]
so we can bring a dozen surveys but yeah
[16:17]
I think if you've got
[16:18]
you know 50 postcards bring them on
[16:21]
okay
[16:26]
so it seems like one of the main things
[16:29]
we want to get out of this meeting is uh
[16:32]
locations that people think are are
[16:36]
worth
[16:37]
[Music]
[16:38]
um
[16:39]
protecting at some level
[16:42]
correct and we want to inform them about
[16:44]
what the process is you know
[16:47]
um and it might you don't don't feel
[16:49]
compelled but you know given this
[16:51]
group's efforts to date it might make
[16:54]
sense and it might be a nice touch if
[16:56]
some if one or two with my group kind of
[16:58]
talked about
[16:59]
how we got to the point we're currently
[17:01]
at I mean we've got a slide we can cover
[17:03]
some of the history
[17:04]
um but I think it always speaks better
[17:07]
at the local people saying look this is
[17:08]
what we've done and this is why I think
[17:09]
it's important we can talk about why
[17:11]
open space is important at a general
[17:13]
level but in terms of Lansing you know
[17:16]
how did this project come to be that'd
[17:18]
be it'd be a nice anecdotal touch from
[17:20]
one of your committee members but it's
[17:22]
not required but I just think for those
[17:24]
in attendance you know how do you get to
[17:26]
this point Katie and I can cover it at a
[17:29]
little higher level but you guys can be
[17:30]
more personal
[17:34]
so you have to commit right now but just
[17:36]
think about that
[17:39]
we we better get a commitment now
[17:41]
because
[17:42]
it just seems like we're all together
[17:45]
and
[17:47]
getting the commitment over emails a lot
[17:49]
harder
[17:59]
I recommend Tom
[18:01]
foreign
[18:03]
ER
[18:06]
[Music]
[18:08]
well I I since I am
[18:12]
technically getting off of this
[18:14]
committee I don't know if I'm the right
[18:16]
person to do it but if nobody else wants
[18:19]
to do it I can do it
[18:21]
I mean I I
[18:24]
hear it with you Tom if nobody else
[18:25]
wants to but I just want to make sure
[18:26]
everybody's given plenty of time to
[18:29]
accept the opportunity
[18:32]
we could work up something together if
[18:34]
you if you want
[18:38]
and it doesn't need to be much I mean
[18:40]
Katie and I can talk about
[18:42]
you know previous planning efforts and
[18:43]
we'll have a slider too on some
[18:46]
recommendations key ideas or key you
[18:49]
know elements that have resonated with
[18:50]
us so you guys don't need to be experts
[18:53]
in everything that we're talking about
[18:54]
and all the previous stuff even though
[18:55]
you might be experts for everything but
[18:58]
um you know just more again more of a
[19:02]
how we got here you're not looking we're
[19:03]
not looking I don't think it's necessary
[19:05]
to speak to a ton of content but just
[19:06]
more the the political motivation for
[19:09]
this effort I think is kind of more
[19:11]
important than
[19:12]
um what recommendation on page 49 I'm
[19:15]
not worried about that it's just more
[19:16]
politically in
[19:18]
community-wise how do we get here
[19:19]
because not not ever not a lot of
[19:21]
communities get to this point I mean
[19:22]
there's there's not a lot of open space
[19:24]
plans out there there's a handful but
[19:25]
not many
[19:27]
I totally agree John that it's very
[19:30]
important for
[19:32]
uh the public to hear from people in
[19:36]
Lansing
[19:38]
who are on the CAC so that they don't
[19:42]
get some idea about this being imposed
[19:45]
from the outside or you know I think
[19:47]
that perception is very important that
[19:49]
it you know it is a Grassroots thing and
[19:52]
they need to see that
[19:55]
and it's special you know whether they have reservations let's
[19:59]
talk about that but they got to at least
[20:00]
understand and appreciate you know where
[20:02]
we're currently at which is no small
[20:04]
task no small feat
[20:08]
yeah I I I think uh an important message
[20:11]
is that we're we're not here to uh take
[20:16]
over people's properties
[20:18]
or just we're just proposing what
[20:22]
particular areas in Lansing are special
[20:25]
and
[20:27]
um we should the town should consider
[20:29]
how how they might be protected without
[20:33]
stomping on anybody's property rights
[20:37]
foreign
[20:47]
you know we don't we're not proposing
[20:50]
any eminent domain or anything like that
[20:56]
so should we leave it
[20:58]
that you and I will do it Tom I at
[21:02]
reservation I don't want to push you too
[21:04]
much but maybe
[21:06]
it's okay and that's somebody else wants
[21:09]
to jump in
[21:12]
um I'll just say I don't really want to
[21:14]
do it because I don't know exactly how I
[21:16]
would answer that question and the other
[21:18]
reason is that I've already been um
[21:20]
drafted into giving a talk the very
[21:23]
evening before and I'd rather not have
[21:25]
to think about preparing uh two
[21:28]
statements for two late night meetings
[21:30]
two evenings in a row if that's okay can
[21:33]
I just you up
[21:42]
um the evening before I got
[21:44]
um drafted into a presentation for the
[21:46]
Cayuga Bird Club about and the Ecuador
[21:49]
bird trip that I went on so I didn't
[21:52]
really want to do that either but they
[21:54]
were desperate for people so I agreed to
[21:56]
do it so I don't want to give two talks
[21:58]
in a row yeah
[22:05]
I I don't see this as really a talk it's
[22:08]
just a few statements of what we're
[22:11]
yeah yeah what we're doing
[22:14]
I'm not even really sure how we did get
[22:16]
here to be honest so we haven't been
[22:18]
paying attention but I'd like to hear
[22:20]
the answer to this question
[22:23]
um well obviously I was here for this
[22:26]
process but you know the long history of
[22:29]
how we got here I don't feel qualified
[22:31]
to talk about so I just you know there's
[22:33]
so much backstory that I don't know
[22:37]
well I think the short history is
[22:39]
um you know we did a natural resources
[22:41]
inventory for the town
[22:43]
and then we did a Scenic resources
[22:46]
inventory
[22:47]
and
[22:49]
you know anybody that's driven around
[22:52]
this town realizes it's really a very
[22:55]
nice place to live and uh there's a lot
[22:58]
of really nice open land around here and
[23:03]
most residents probably want to sort of
[23:06]
keep it that way but how you know how do
[23:09]
you do that this is sort of a systematic
[23:12]
way of of assessing what's what's the
[23:15]
most valuable properties
[23:18]
or Parcels of land in Lansing I guess
[23:21]
that's the way I view it
[23:24]
yeah it's a statement of policy and
[23:27]
priority
[23:29]
could we talk a bit about uh the vision
[23:32]
for Distributing
[23:35]
um the poster
[23:36]
and maybe a little bit more PR around
[23:39]
that whether we want to try for another
[23:43]
press release
[23:45]
um
[23:46]
maybe with a picture
[23:50]
my husband read the Tompkins weekly and
[23:53]
pointed out to me he's a big Avid Reader
[23:55]
of local papers that we got
[23:58]
um we got in page seven uh of the
[24:01]
October 26 issue input on conservation
[24:04]
plans soughts they put in all that
[24:07]
including CJ's phone number and
[24:09]
everything
[24:10]
um but now I think we need another push
[24:12]
for the public
[24:14]
um
[24:15]
and you know that some of that could
[24:17]
happen as we're
[24:19]
thinking about places to bring the
[24:20]
postcard around town and maybe we have
[24:23]
some copies of this that
[24:26]
um can go in those same locations
[24:28]
but what what do you normally do Katie
[24:30]
and John with a poster like the one
[24:33]
you're showing now
[24:36]
so first I think we put it on the town
[24:38]
website so that's been done
[24:41]
and then John sorry I didn't mean to cut
[24:44]
you off nope I was saying you go first
[24:46]
I'm just actually gonna check the Tom's
[24:48]
website
[24:50]
and then yeah I mean we would just
[24:52]
encourage you guys to put it up wherever
[24:55]
communities members are
[24:58]
typically going to the library's Town
[25:00]
Hall obviously
[25:03]
um
[25:04]
any local businesses I mean
[25:07]
the more places we we put at the better
[25:09]
chance we have that someone happening to
[25:12]
look at it I know we're all bombarded
[25:13]
with information these days but
[25:17]
um yeah I mean I think virtually is a
[25:19]
really
[25:21]
good option these days so if I think
[25:24]
we've talked about
[25:25]
using social media before I don't know
[25:28]
if that's something the town supervisor
[25:30]
wants to put on his Facebook page or
[25:33]
if there's I mean we could send it maybe
[25:36]
through the schools list serve
[25:40]
and I want to take advantage of that I
[25:43]
mean I know we've already used it for
[25:44]
the survey so
[25:47]
um School listeners are called if
[25:48]
they're
[25:50]
willing to and yes it's gone twice now
[25:54]
include
[25:58]
and it's uh the November 15th meeting
[26:01]
was included in that right CJ
[26:03]
whatever was in the bullet points of the
[26:06]
three things went to the lcsd
[26:10]
if we uh created another press release
[26:13]
for you could you send that out to your
[26:15]
venues CJ
[26:17]
it's all about the meeting on the 15th
[26:22]
uh sure okay
[26:25]
um
[26:27]
I'm gonna be out on the 10th and then
[26:29]
the 11th we're closed so
[26:32]
um if somebody can turn around a final
[26:33]
version of that in the next
[26:35]
couple few business days uh I don't see
[26:38]
why not I'll do my best and
[26:42]
I'm pretty swamped right now but I will
[26:44]
do my best
[26:46]
yeah and I'm trying to think in terms of
[26:48]
you know what places in the town get the
[26:51]
most foot traffic I mean the the Katie
[26:54]
and I had lunch at That Pizza Place
[26:56]
um you know is there a brewery or bar or
[26:58]
you know social Gathering Place
[27:00]
um doesn't have to be alcohol related
[27:02]
um that you know any kind of places that
[27:04]
could split traffic
[27:06]
um you know that would be nice to put
[27:08]
either an eight and a half by eleven or
[27:10]
along my 17
[27:12]
um in the door you know at the checkout
[27:15]
you know if they're willing to do that
[27:17]
and most most local places in our
[27:19]
experience have been pretty friendly
[27:21]
with that they'll you know put it in the
[27:22]
window or something
[27:24]
I just don't know the places in Lansing
[27:26]
that get the most foot traffic for you
[27:28]
know one for dinner or you know
[27:29]
throughout the day
[27:30]
in addition to the library and Town Hall
[27:32]
in public places
[27:41]
well the Lansing Market I think would
[27:43]
get fair amount of traffic that would be
[27:46]
a good spot
[27:56]
Crossroads probably
[27:59]
Rose Harbor that's a market Crossroads
[28:04]
Morabito yeah all of those places CJ
[28:06]
would be good
[28:14]
so
[28:17]
when would we put these up
[28:21]
I think they go up at any time at any
[28:22]
point in the next few days you know
[28:24]
that's something that I don't think you
[28:26]
need to wait until we get closer you
[28:28]
know if any I think in the next three to
[28:30]
five days would be fair game
[28:33]
you know where what are we 12 days out
[28:36]
so you know I'd say sooner the better
[28:38]
yeah
[28:42]
especially the brewery I mean just
[28:45]
they're gonna get so this weekend let's
[28:47]
check in the calendar
[28:51]
yes you have one more weekend as I
[28:52]
thought so yeah just
[28:54]
um the next few days that would make
[28:56]
sure that people on their busy days you
[28:58]
know probably the 11th Saturday the 12th
[29:00]
you know they would be seen
[29:03]
um
[29:03]
but I'd say get them out as soon as you
[29:05]
can starting tomorrow
[29:19]
so we were putting up
[29:22]
what's on the screen right now
[29:26]
to the right there
[29:29]
yeah either eight and a half by eleven
[29:31]
or if you can print 11 by 17 you know I
[29:34]
know some Community uh
[29:36]
I'm thinking that you know some of the
[29:38]
window shops and stuff you guys don't
[29:40]
have you know a full traditional Main
[29:42]
Street so
[29:43]
um you guys want to have that luxury of
[29:45]
store Furniture Store Furniture
[29:46]
storefront all with this in the window
[29:49]
um but the idea is the same I mean you
[29:52]
can get it in some of these other places
[29:55]
um
[29:56]
Faith Community you know again I think
[29:58]
announcing it in church tends to do well
[30:01]
um or community events if any of you are
[30:04]
affiliated with any
[30:05]
churches or you know synagogues or any
[30:08]
of that stuff that tends to bring people
[30:10]
a good dependence out as well if they'll
[30:11]
announce at a church
[30:15]
actually Momos and North Lansing might
[30:18]
be another spot yeah that's a good one
[30:20]
Chad
[30:23]
that was almost
[30:26]
it's a little restaurant yeah
[30:30]
that's why I was guessing it sounds it
[30:32]
sounds intriguing I like the name
[30:36]
um another thought to
[30:39]
uh with Karen's question about pushback
[30:41]
and then Tom mentioning that the intent
[30:45]
is not to steal anybody's rights or
[30:48]
anything like that from a standpoint of
[30:52]
landowners that's obviously going to be
[30:55]
key and
[30:57]
so the question I can see being asked is
[31:03]
if land isn't going to be
[31:05]
you know taken or you know
[31:11]
if if we're not going to infringe on
[31:13]
people's rights then how
[31:16]
what are the mechanisms to accomplish
[31:18]
the conservation
[31:20]
you know for somebody that's interested
[31:22]
in trying to do that yeah so to that end
[31:25]
John would it make sense to kind of walk
[31:28]
through uh one or two case studies on
[31:31]
how that's worked in other places
[31:33]
um I mean I can I can talk in
[31:34]
generalities all day long and that I
[31:36]
think that would be valuable but it
[31:38]
might be more valuable to say you know
[31:39]
here are some examples
[31:41]
um you know the re just for this group
[31:44]
um I mean the easy scenario in a general
[31:47]
senses you know there it doesn't happen
[31:50]
often but if there's been a handful of
[31:51]
times where
[31:53]
concerned property owner A or B really
[31:56]
cares about open space or Community
[31:58]
character or whatever the motivation
[31:59]
might be you know we'll come to a
[32:01]
municipality and say Hey you know would
[32:03]
you support uh preserving my land but
[32:06]
it's it's not prime soils it's not
[32:09]
Scenic it doesn't really you know it
[32:11]
doesn't have all lands not created equal
[32:12]
when it comes to open space preservation
[32:14]
so this is one of those scenarios where
[32:16]
this document will guide that decision
[32:19]
you know if if a landowner wants to do
[32:23]
preservation for his or hers his or her
[32:25]
own goals
[32:28]
um this will help the town decide
[32:29]
whether they want to try to be involved
[32:30]
with that or not
[32:32]
okay and and like if say a property
[32:36]
owner's
[32:37]
property came up as something that a
[32:40]
number of people saw and thought was
[32:43]
worth keeping
[32:45]
then how do you approach them you know
[32:49]
if they're you know
[32:52]
maybe they're mildly interested in
[32:55]
conserving it or they think they're
[32:56]
already doing what they need or should
[32:58]
be doing to conserve it
[33:00]
that you
[33:02]
then it basically just kind of
[33:04]
sits there and if it's already open and
[33:06]
they're maintaining it as open space
[33:09]
then we're good yeah there's you know
[33:12]
there's funding programs out there as
[33:14]
well so there's scenario one you know
[33:16]
there's there's open space preservation
[33:18]
funding through Albany
[33:20]
um some land trust but mostly through
[33:22]
Albany uh Farmland preservation and
[33:26]
if the pro if this town is interested in
[33:28]
pursuing that what are the top 10 I'm
[33:31]
making that up because you know going
[33:32]
back to David Letterman what are the top
[33:34]
10 lists for open space in the town
[33:37]
um you know yeah finite dollars finite
[33:39]
cracks at this grant you want to put
[33:41]
your best foot forward
[33:43]
um so that property owner you mentioned
[33:45]
John is if his or her property is 20th
[33:48]
that's a different conversation than if
[33:49]
his or her property was second on that
[33:52]
list you know so I think John John just
[33:56]
I just want to clarify too it was my
[33:58]
understanding that we would be much
[34:01]
um
[34:03]
higher more highly rated and competitive
[34:05]
for these types of Grants if we have the
[34:09]
index and open space plan in place
[34:11]
rather than having it I mean that that
[34:13]
kind of comes back to the whole question
[34:15]
of what brought us here you know it's sort of circular but I think it's
[34:19]
an important point to if it if it's true
[34:22]
which I think it is
[34:25]
um that we would be more competitive to
[34:27]
have if we had a plan in place 100 I
[34:30]
mean it comes down you know Grant
[34:32]
acquisition is a lot of it comes down to
[34:34]
readiness
[34:36]
and this would put you I think in the
[34:38]
best spot in terms of Readiness
[34:41]
um we've got to get into some other
[34:43]
Readiness factors indicators that we
[34:46]
haven't Katie and I haven't gotten into
[34:47]
yet but that will go into this document
[34:50]
but you know once this document is done
[34:51]
and the process is completed you'll be
[34:55]
in great shape for funding applications
[34:57]
going forward regardless of the program
[34:59]
might be State might be Federal like the
[35:01]
environmental it might be Farmland you
[35:04]
know these these the funding sources
[35:06]
change from year to year in terms of and
[35:09]
sometimes there's more than one
[35:11]
um so yes I think it speaks this project
[35:13]
will speak to readiness
[35:15]
yeah and that's important I think that's
[35:17]
an one of the important
[35:19]
um talking points that we need to keep
[35:22]
coming back to well why are you doing
[35:24]
this why are you spending our tax money
[35:27]
which is you know we got a grant for
[35:29]
this first of all so that question may
[35:31]
come up about why are you using tax dollars to
[35:34]
do something I don't want done
[35:37]
um but also
[35:40]
um
[35:42]
the town of Lansing you know there are
[35:44]
parts of it that are uh people who are
[35:47]
traditionally not very much in favor of
[35:50]
planning and this is a whole different
[35:52]
way of thinking about things it's a very
[35:54]
logical step-wise process and you know I
[35:58]
think we want to
[36:00]
talk about it from a space of
[36:03]
responsibility and
[36:06]
acknowledgment of a broad base of input
[36:11]
and comment if Comet are justification
[36:14]
from a place of strength I would really
[36:16]
recommend against leading with the you
[36:20]
know
[36:21]
placate the fears
[36:23]
you know I think I think that makes us
[36:25]
look weak
[36:28]
I mean we're anticipating that there are
[36:30]
going to be fears but I would not lead
[36:32]
with that at all
[36:33]
foreign
[36:35]
just be prepared when you get it this is
[36:38]
the idea yep
[36:43]
because if you don't have answers to
[36:45]
those questions when they're asked then
[36:46]
that doesn't look good either
[36:48]
yeah
[36:51]
I mean would it make sense
[36:54]
oh sorry go ahead John no this is going
[36:56]
to say it sounds like an you know we've
[36:58]
done this with other projects as well
[37:00]
not just open space you know talk about
[37:02]
what are our goals or hopes for the
[37:05]
project and then what this project does
[37:07]
not
[37:08]
you know and this this project is you
[37:10]
know not a land grab uh per se you know
[37:13]
that's it's it's um
[37:16]
but if but to Karen's Point here's all
[37:19]
this is we're starting from here's the
[37:21]
goals here's the positive here's why
[37:23]
this makes sense environmentally
[37:24]
Community character I mean all the
[37:26]
things that open space does for Lansing
[37:28]
you know
[37:29]
staying that strongly proudly in the
[37:33]
beginning I think Karen spot on
[37:37]
yeah and along those lines it might be
[37:39]
nice uh in the press release to have a a
[37:42]
quote from you John Fleming something
[37:45]
about
[37:46]
maybe I'll call you up
[37:52]
I think it's it's good to normalize it
[38:02]
so the list that we've now brainstormed
[38:05]
for this public meeting number one is
[38:08]
uh and the places it can go uh similar
[38:11]
to the places where we could put the
[38:13]
post extra postcards so we're kind of
[38:16]
dealing with that question
[38:18]
um but we do need some worker beavers to
[38:21]
get the poster and the postcards to
[38:23]
these different locations
[38:26]
um
[38:27]
and I'm wondering if anybody's willing I
[38:30]
have a list
[38:32]
um that I ran by Tom today of businesses
[38:35]
churches
[38:37]
um Library Town Hall village of Lansing
[38:39]
all sorts of places and is there anybody
[38:42]
who
[38:44]
wants to make a go of you know maybe
[38:47]
looking at the list and splitting it up
[38:49]
I can do some of the locations but I
[38:52]
can't do all of them I think Tom you
[38:54]
were willing to do some also
[38:56]
yeah I I think we should peer down the
[38:59]
list some yeah
[39:04]
quite a few but whoever takes it on
[39:07]
maybe could be in charge of paring it
[39:09]
down and
[39:11]
uh just organizing
[39:13]
drop-offs and also maybe organizing how
[39:16]
to get uh color copies of the of the
[39:19]
poster
[39:22]
are you not providing uh copies and
[39:25]
posters
[39:27]
or not you but I mean the town found in
[39:30]
the town do that CJ
[39:34]
what's what are you guys looking for
[39:35]
copies of the posters
[39:38]
yeah that you had a stack of them
[39:41]
maybe I was thinking about the postcards
[39:43]
not the poster you don't have posters
[39:46]
yet but you do have postcards
[39:50]
there's one poster hanging in town hall
[39:52]
on the cork board this one that you see
[39:53]
right here you're invited
[39:57]
can we get more printed off
[40:00]
I guess that's maybe I got myself
[40:03]
confused because I was looking at the
[40:04]
poster but do you mean you want us to
[40:06]
distribute the postcards right the ones
[40:09]
you already have a surplus of and and
[40:11]
the posters since we're gonna some of
[40:13]
the places are gonna overlap
[40:22]
so I'm just wondering if there's
[40:24]
somebody who wants to kind of take that
[40:25]
on
[40:28]
see in the next week if they can get the
[40:31]
postcards dropped off and and some of
[40:34]
the posters put up
[40:36]
so so are the posters printed and we
[40:38]
just picked up picked up and distribute
[40:40]
them or do we have to print them
[40:43]
they they have yet to be printed as far
[40:45]
as I know I'm pretty sure there's just
[40:47]
one copy at the town I don't think I have access to a
[40:53]
I mean I could maybe access the one at
[40:55]
the Cornell library but I don't think I
[40:57]
really had I don't know if that's even
[40:59]
ethical but um
[41:02]
CJ can can somebody stop by the town
[41:06]
hall and print a bunch up
[41:10]
uh so we can probably get those printed
[41:14]
on Monday uh how many copies
[41:19]
40.
[41:22]
okay
[41:25]
and you have a new one to pick them up
[41:27]
on Monday
[41:31]
Todd are you volunteering to do this
[41:35]
yeah I'd be happy to help out with this
[41:38]
but we kind of need to divvy up where
[41:39]
the where were each Distributing these
[41:43]
things maybe I could show my screen
[41:45]
because I have
[41:47]
uh some other locations
[41:51]
um you know uh what we'll do is I'll
[41:53]
just print some first thing on Monday
[41:56]
after our department meeting and put
[41:59]
them in the uh
[42:01]
we'll put them in the vestibule and
[42:03]
they'll just say CAC public meeting
[42:06]
flyers on it and then people can just
[42:08]
grab however many they want out of the
[42:10]
pile that sounds good
[42:14]
that would really be great and I have
[42:18]
got an Excel spreadsheet started
[42:22]
with some of these locations obviously I
[42:25]
haven't added the ones that we came up
[42:27]
with tonight and then the bunch of
[42:28]
businesses
[42:30]
from the Lansing
[42:32]
um .com website so yeah and you've got
[42:35]
permission at all these locations no no
[42:38]
just just pulled the list together today
[42:40]
after
[42:41]
um brainstorming actually with CJ
[42:44]
because I didn't know this list existed
[42:45]
until today but that's ones that are on
[42:48]
the website and then these are ones that
[42:50]
I came up with and then we can add uh
[42:52]
the ones you know like the Ridge and
[42:54]
things like that
[42:56]
um that we came up with
[42:57]
um tonight
[42:59]
almost
[43:03]
um so I I'm willing to add to it and
[43:06]
then send it to whoever
[43:09]
um might be willing to do some
[43:11]
coordinating maybe two it's a two-person
[43:13]
job
[43:15]
um
[43:19]
and I have all the postcards at my house
[43:22]
it's two large boxes so I think it's a
[43:25]
question of posters and postcards
[43:28]
because they have different information
[43:29]
on them
[43:32]
so you're going to want the poster and
[43:35]
the postcards at the same locations I
[43:37]
think that would be great unless that
[43:40]
might be if we're gonna pick up the
[43:41]
posters at Town Hall maybe if the
[43:43]
postcards could be there
[43:45]
we can drop the postcards off of town
[43:48]
hall
[43:49]
yeah anytime you can just put them in
[43:51]
the vestibule and put a note on them and
[43:53]
then anyone can go in anytime those
[43:54]
doors are always open the exterior yeah
[43:57]
that would be awesome and then it's just
[43:59]
a question of
[44:01]
figuring out okay who's who's going to
[44:03]
take what
[44:05]
um
[44:06]
is that where you're going to have the
[44:07]
posters CJ and the vestibule you got it
[44:10]
we'll just put it all you know uh
[44:12]
whatever comes first if the postcards
[44:14]
show up we'll just put the Flyers with
[44:16]
them and if the Flyers are out first and
[44:18]
then you bring the postcards on Monday
[44:19]
morning or sometime they can just all be
[44:22]
together in a little corner there no one
[44:24]
will
[44:25]
hopefully no one will bother them I
[44:26]
doubt if somebody will be monkeying with
[44:28]
them
[44:30]
well if someone takes them and
[44:32]
distributes them then we're golden
[44:33]
okay great
[44:39]
yeah well I could certainly distribute
[44:40]
some of them to some of those business
[44:42]
factors that the last one which is the
[44:44]
dentist I have an appointment on on
[44:45]
Tuesday so I can easily take up there
[44:48]
that'd be awesome
[44:51]
well
[44:51]
[Music]
[44:53]
um I I'm happy to forward uh fix up this
[44:57]
Excel spreadsheet and send it out and
[45:00]
there are 1700 extra postcards to work
[45:03]
with so we're just flush with postcards
[45:05]
another
[45:06]
untapped resource is the school system
[45:09]
and
[45:11]
um it would be fabulous if somebody had
[45:15]
a contact at the school and we could
[45:18]
figure out a way to get science teachers
[45:19]
to hand these postcards to their kids
[45:22]
because we don't have I don't think any
[45:25]
respondents so far who are real
[45:27]
youngsters uh at least Katie you had
[45:29]
said
[45:30]
to your knowledge there really were no
[45:32]
Youth and be so great
[45:35]
um
[45:37]
someone's got a contact
[45:39]
UM
[45:40]
lcsd
[45:42]
well my wife's the seventh grade biology
[45:44]
teacher so I can that might be too young
[45:47]
for youth but I can ask her
[45:49]
no it's not too young okay
[45:52]
you can put her in her office but she
[45:54]
might know who in the high school would
[45:56]
be also receptive
[45:59]
there you go that's my distribution I
[46:01]
got my my chaos that's great
[46:03]
that would be great
[46:05]
so Todd are are you able to get them
[46:08]
from the town hall for her or I can get
[46:11]
them from the town hall I can also do
[46:12]
the Methodist Church that's I have easy
[46:15]
access to that
[46:17]
um and I don't mind doing what I really
[46:20]
don't want to do is I don't want to be
[46:21]
running to all the ends of Tompkins
[46:24]
County to just to deliver my if I can
[46:26]
have a clump that's kind of I think
[46:28]
that's what we all want right if we want
[46:30]
to have like okay
[46:31]
I can make all these stops in 20 minutes
[46:34]
or something
[46:35]
awesome but yeah if you post that I'll sign up for the ones that I think
[46:40]
are the easiest for me to access no the
[46:43]
library the school
[46:46]
the church I don't know maybe we can
[46:48]
start there
[46:49]
Library School Church okay and I think
[46:52]
what we can do is if we have two people
[46:54]
who want to do the same place we just
[46:56]
will do like leg wrestling to see who
[46:58]
gets to to do that one
[47:01]
all right
[47:05]
and I'm assuming a lot of these places
[47:07]
don't know where we have this list that
[47:09]
they're on right so it's you're kind of
[47:12]
it's going to be a cold call there
[47:14]
to see if they're willing
[47:16]
it'll be based on your good looks John
[47:19]
so I think I think we're in
[47:24]
trouble
[47:28]
awesome
[47:30]
this is really
[47:32]
a fabulous Blitz here
[47:38]
so Carrie you're going to send out the
[47:40]
list
[47:42]
and people are gonna
[47:44]
mark
[47:46]
where they're going or are we gonna
[47:49]
try and post a list uh right where the
[47:53]
rate in the vestibule and people can
[47:55]
mark
[47:57]
um where they're going how are we going
[47:59]
to do this I think Robin suggested uh
[48:02]
Google Docs
[48:04]
yeah not everybody is always able to get
[48:07]
into the Google Docs
[48:09]
um
[48:11]
I realized probably don't have time to
[48:14]
go through it here but
[48:16]
um yeah I'm just suggesting that we not
[48:18]
get into the specifics right now just
[48:21]
looking at the time of who's going to
[48:22]
drive what business
[48:26]
why don't we include the uh a list with
[48:30]
that we put in the vestibule and then
[48:32]
when people go to pick things up they
[48:35]
can see who's already covered what
[48:39]
okay I think we need one person to
[48:42]
Shepherd it it sounds like Todd's
[48:44]
willing to do a certain number of things
[48:46]
I put his name on those is there anybody
[48:49]
who can kind of Shepherd the whole thing
[48:53]
um
[48:54]
so that we we have the bases covered and
[48:57]
they can make sure that pile of
[49:00]
postcards is decreasing and the pile of
[49:02]
posters is decreasing
[49:07]
because I think without a champion it
[49:09]
could languish
[49:17]
I don't have any time until Wednesday
[49:20]
Thursday Friday of next week
[49:22]
as far as
[49:24]
what I have free
[49:32]
I am likely out of town from Tuesday to
[49:36]
Friday or Saturday next week
[49:42]
okay why don't we find out who the
[49:43]
people are that are going to distribute
[49:45]
and then that group can get together a
[49:46]
couple of the plan of how they're going
[49:48]
to
[49:49]
um organize themselves I think the idea
[49:51]
of when you've put them out at certain
[49:54]
places
[49:55]
put a note in the box that says these
[49:57]
places are covered so nobody has to
[49:58]
recover do them we can have it we can
[50:00]
have the sheet there
[50:02]
something like that but but yeah I think
[50:05]
for the bigger group if there's only
[50:07]
like maybe four of us that do it let's
[50:08]
have those four people organize
[50:10]
themselves
[50:11]
okay so could that be you Todd and Ed
[50:15]
and John even John I know you're not
[50:17]
good till next week at the end of the
[50:19]
week but that's okay I think it'd be
[50:21]
perfect I think Ed would be perfect yes
[50:25]
I seconded
[50:29]
okay and we don't we don't have to go to
[50:33]
all of these places
[50:34]
that's right there's a list of 50 I mean
[50:37]
I think that's Overkill I'll send it out
[50:40]
to everybody we we will uh I'll send you
[50:43]
the Excel spreadsheet and then uh John
[50:46]
and Ed can keep adding people's names as
[50:50]
they volunteer when they see it um and
[50:52]
otherwise they'll just make sure that uh that the cards and the posters
[50:57]
get where they need to and meanwhile it
[50:59]
will all end up in the vestibule
[51:01]
um so that everybody has access and I
[51:03]
think you'll be able to all be there by
[51:05]
the postcards can be there by uh
[51:07]
tomorrow
[51:08]
foreign
[51:11]
and hopefully we're gonna get a postcard
[51:14]
in the mail
[51:15]
for the next day or two
[51:17]
yes
[51:20]
YMCA Robin awesome what what if we don't
[51:25]
uh
[51:27]
if we don't get a postcard in the mail
[51:29]
yeah I mean that's that's really our
[51:32]
main way of communicating with this town
[51:34]
right now we are well uh if we don't get
[51:39]
it tomorrow or Saturday we'll get it
[51:41]
Monday
[51:45]
yeah they'll still have eight days so
[51:48]
okay here let me know when you drop them
[51:50]
off tomorrow because I might be able to
[51:51]
do some tomorrow and some on Monday
[51:53]
okay great it'll be
[51:56]
um by 10 o'clock AM
[52:11]
okay should we move on to the
[52:14]
stakeholder interviews did I just ask
[52:17]
since we're we had left off with Katie
[52:19]
and uh John Steinmetz on the office
[52:24]
hours
[52:25]
for CJ we didn't quite cover that that's
[52:28]
going to be on the 16th
[52:30]
[Music]
[52:31]
um
[52:32]
is did I did I read properly that you
[52:36]
had written in the chat Todd that you're
[52:39]
going to be available on the 16th for
[52:42]
the office hours with CJ or yeah it
[52:45]
sounded like we had we don't know how
[52:46]
many people are going to be there
[52:48]
I would hate to have more CAC people
[52:50]
show up than actual participants so if that if uh John or Darcy or Katie can
[52:58]
um
[52:58]
send me an email and say hey look we've
[53:01]
got a lot of people I'll just jump down
[53:02]
there I'm
[53:04]
so so that's the 15th that's Tuesday
[53:07]
that's right but then Wednesday at 5 30.
[53:10]
the 16th and that's office hours with CJ
[53:14]
yeah
[53:15]
just check 15th
[53:20]
it'd be it should be a Tuesday
[53:23]
and Wednesday so we have a we have quite
[53:26]
a few CAC members who said they could do
[53:28]
the Tuesday thing Wednesday I think we
[53:31]
should have at least one CAC member
[53:33]
represent
[53:34]
along with CJ
[53:37]
um and I can't remember whether Katie or
[53:39]
John Steinmetz can um come but I know
[53:44]
you know just to have CJ there uh
[53:46]
without a CAC person it seems a little
[53:49]
bit
[53:49]
um Wednesday actually works better for
[53:51]
me than Tuesday
[53:53]
you want to join CJ office hours is that
[53:57]
what you were saying you needed somebody
[53:58]
for I think it would be great okay
[54:02]
CJ I'll join you on Wednesday the 15th
[54:04]
send us a reminder so I get it on my
[54:06]
calendar
[54:08]
yeah Carrie we can't we can't help out
[54:11]
we've got a open house in Tonawanda that
[54:13]
night okay all right that's clear
[54:17]
I'm just gonna pop it right into our
[54:19]
little chat here
[54:26]
and it looks like Robin uh said in the
[54:28]
chat she could switch to Wednesday
[54:31]
um all depends how many people we think
[54:34]
we need for office hours for that I
[54:37]
thought on on the 16th
[54:41]
do you have a preference CJ
[54:44]
uh no I've honestly thought that I was
[54:47]
just doing it by myself so yeah you
[54:49]
prefer Robin admit it
[54:51]
I don't know I don't have any horse in
[54:54]
this race
[55:00]
sorry CJ go ahead no I just I can't do
[55:02]
four night meetings in a row that's a
[55:04]
personal policy so um so that's kind of
[55:07]
where I'm at I don't want to do three
[55:08]
things
[55:15]
might be more of us there are the public
[55:18]
and I I don't know if you'd rather have
[55:20]
me there on Wednesday or or Tuesday but
[55:22]
you don't get both so I mean welcome
[55:25]
yeah John feel free to correct me if I'm
[55:28]
wrong but I think we in person is
[55:31]
probably the more important
[55:34]
event to have CAC members because we're
[55:36]
going to be physically breaking up
[55:38]
into groups
[55:40]
I think I think you know one on the any
[55:43]
kind of virtual call is fine I mean if
[55:45]
you if you had two plus CJ that wouldn't
[55:47]
be the end of the world either
[55:49]
um but I think out of the two I think
[55:50]
the in person would be more important
[55:53]
okay
[55:55]
great so we want you
[55:57]
on the 15th Robin
[55:59]
okay
[56:02]
we have a white attendance Robin you can
[56:04]
just talk about your bird presentation
[56:05]
from the late before you need to do it
[56:07]
twice
[56:09]
still be rehearsed from the night before
[56:12]
don't confuse her
[56:16]
sorry for the bunny trail but I think
[56:18]
it's great to get the bases covered
[56:20]
and uh so now back to stakeholder
[56:24]
meetings Katie thanks okay
[56:27]
yeah so we'll just take like five more
[56:28]
minutes of your time because I know
[56:30]
you've got a lot on your plate tonight
[56:31]
so
[56:32]
um we have reached out to stakeholders
[56:35]
we reached out starting mid-october
[56:38]
um to the individuals that we identified
[56:41]
within the four groups which are
[56:42]
agriculture local business
[56:45]
um environmental and local agencies and
[56:48]
reached out about setting up separate
[56:50]
meetings we didn't get a lot of feedback
[56:53]
reached out again still really haven't
[56:55]
heard back and so what John and I um in
[56:58]
conversation with
[56:59]
um a few CAC members were proposed to do
[57:03]
and got signed off from CJ and and the
[57:06]
crew is to have kind of more of an open
[57:08]
house style format to maximize the
[57:11]
amount of time that we have available
[57:15]
for people to speak with us so the idea
[57:17]
is that we'll have
[57:19]
a four-hour session and from the late
[57:21]
afternoon into the evening on
[57:24]
Tuesday November 8th which is coming up
[57:27]
shortly and then
[57:30]
um more of a morning afternoon session
[57:32]
on Wednesday
[57:35]
um from ten to one so we reached out
[57:38]
about that to all of our stakeholders
[57:40]
there's about
[57:42]
just a little under 30 of them in total
[57:46]
um and we still have only heard from
[57:49]
three people so
[57:51]
um at this point I think
[57:53]
um
[57:55]
this is we could do some help with
[57:58]
having people reach out via phone I
[58:02]
think if someone hears from someone they
[58:04]
know personally it might help
[58:06]
um
[58:07]
get a response from them
[58:09]
um John I don't know if you want to add
[58:10]
anything
[58:12]
no it's it's um
[58:15]
yeah any any traction you can help us
[58:17]
would be good you know and initially we
[58:20]
had talked about and worked more is fine
[58:22]
but we you know we each typically figure
[58:24]
well if we can talk to four to six
[58:25]
people that'd be great
[58:27]
um you know four became 30 which means
[58:28]
focus groups which is fine but when we
[58:30]
start to go from Individual calls to
[58:32]
groups and we need your help because you
[58:35]
know right now at least in Lansing we're
[58:36]
having a hard time getting groups set up
[58:39]
um you know so any advice you can give
[58:42]
us would be helpful on this one
[58:50]
can can you send us a list of
[58:54]
the stakeholders and who has
[58:57]
committed and who hasn't
[58:59]
yeah so I was going to suggest
[59:02]
um that I can send out a list of who
[59:04]
hasn't responded and if people want to
[59:06]
take one or two of those people just to
[59:08]
give them a call if you know them
[59:09]
personally great
[59:12]
um and then uh we'll do the best we can
[59:15]
to continue to try to reach out to
[59:17]
people in advance of next week so that
[59:19]
we can kind of maximize participation
[59:20]
but yeah I can send that out Tom and
[59:23]
then I don't know sounds like Google
[59:26]
Docs isn't the right way to go
[59:29]
if we just want to do a via email chain
[59:31]
that's fine
[59:33]
um
[59:34]
and then we can just kind of go from
[59:35]
there
[59:36]
and can you put the dates and times of
[59:39]
those two sessions right with that so
[59:41]
yep
[59:43]
thank you
[59:45]
and more flexible I mean and a little
[59:47]
desperate at this point so if it's a
[59:50]
situation where you know Tom you talk to
[59:52]
someone and he or she says well I'm
[59:54]
really not comfortable talking in a
[59:56]
group if someone would call me I'd be
[59:58]
happy with a conversation so I mean if
[1:00:02]
Katie has to do the you know not has to
[1:00:04]
if Katie does the people in the room and
[1:00:06]
I need to make calls during that time
[1:00:07]
period that's fine we just don't want to
[1:00:09]
be calling 30 people if we can help it
[1:00:11]
that's not really an efficient sort of
[1:00:12]
time
[1:00:13]
um but right now we just want to have
[1:00:15]
some conversations so
[1:00:17]
um bikers can't be choosers so if
[1:00:19]
there's one or two people that that it's
[1:00:21]
just better for me to call them that's
[1:00:23]
fine too I can't call 30 but I can speak
[1:00:25]
for one or two if we can get a good
[1:00:28]
portion of 30 to join us during these
[1:00:30]
open house office hours that would be
[1:00:32]
really helpful so you know any however
[1:00:35]
we got to reach out to these people
[1:00:37]
we're happy to do it but if you can kind
[1:00:39]
of motivate people to join us next 2010
[1:00:42]
Wednesday Thursday I don't want to say
[1:00:43]
the wrong thing Katie
[1:00:46]
that'd be great okay I will I will send
[1:00:51]
a note like I said I would but I just
[1:00:53]
was waiting to kind of get the go ahead
[1:00:55]
on this to to Hillary Lambert and to gay
[1:00:59]
Nicholson and you know if you can let me
[1:01:01]
know who else is on the Environmental
[1:01:06]
stakeholder group I can do that I'm
[1:01:09]
sorry I think we should pull up the list
[1:01:11]
now because this is this is next Tuesday
[1:01:14]
and Wednesday
[1:01:16]
and so we although they can have those
[1:01:19]
conversations later
[1:01:22]
I mean it could happen
[1:01:24]
aren't you trying to get them together
[1:01:26]
on those days if possible if possible
[1:01:29]
it's always nice to do the stakeholder
[1:01:32]
stuff before the first public meeting
[1:01:35]
um at least some of them it just kind of
[1:01:36]
helps us understand some of the hot
[1:01:38]
button issues and it's not uncommon then
[1:01:41]
to have some of those triple later into
[1:01:42]
the process but yeah we could have some
[1:01:45]
um
[1:01:46]
pick a date and have a conversation you
[1:01:48]
know ideally next week that would be
[1:01:50]
great with some of these folks doesn't
[1:01:51]
have to be all of them but hopefully
[1:01:52]
some of them I mean is it possible just
[1:01:55]
to pop up the list and yeah let me pop
[1:01:57]
up the list and then if people want to
[1:01:59]
just throw in the chat or
[1:02:03]
um
[1:02:05]
just let me know who they want to reach
[1:02:07]
out to that'd be great I mean because
[1:02:08]
you've been you've been nudging without
[1:02:10]
much success and we we need to help you
[1:02:13]
now okay so that's the can you see that
[1:02:17]
yeah okay great so that's the list
[1:02:19]
breaking up broken out by Focus Group
[1:02:25]
so have you heard
[1:02:27]
these are all people who have yet to
[1:02:29]
respond
[1:02:31]
so I I could ping Andy Zepp okay great
[1:02:35]
okay and I will all right let me write
[1:02:38]
this down Jody and Katrina Roger
[1:02:43]
all of them
[1:02:45]
um Candace is
[1:02:47]
had covered for the last three weeks so
[1:02:50]
I doubt that she's gonna
[1:02:56]
Jody
[1:02:59]
Katrina
[1:03:00]
[Music]
[1:03:08]
okay and would you do me I'm I'm really
[1:03:11]
sorry to ask for this but I'm on my iPad
[1:03:14]
and I can't see the office hours can you
[1:03:17]
just tell me again when they are
[1:03:19]
yeah so they're I could shoot you an
[1:03:22]
email too Karen but they're
[1:03:24]
um Tuesday the 8th from three to seven
[1:03:28]
and Wednesday the 9th from 10 to 1.
[1:03:35]
and we're asking people to show up on
[1:03:37]
the hour so we're gonna have that whole
[1:03:40]
session open but ideally we'll I mean
[1:03:42]
we'll we'll talk to anyone who shows up
[1:03:44]
at any time obviously but ideally
[1:03:46]
someone would show up at the top of the hour and then what we
[1:03:50]
will talk to whoever's there for that
[1:03:52]
hour
[1:03:54]
yeah I mean I I think that you know
[1:03:58]
most of these people
[1:04:00]
are really just sick and tired of being
[1:04:03]
yelled at by anti-environmentalists and
[1:04:05]
they will avoid a sort of a free-for-all
[1:04:09]
with people that they are not on the
[1:04:12]
same team with
[1:04:14]
um I certainly wouldn't want to do that
[1:04:17]
myself
[1:04:19]
um and I think they're just very likely
[1:04:21]
either going to want to all be in the
[1:04:22]
same room together or talk one-on-one
[1:04:27]
um
[1:04:27]
I know that it's it's that's that's not
[1:04:31]
what you want to hear but I think this
[1:04:32]
is what we were trying to avoid in the
[1:04:34]
first place by sort of uh
[1:04:37]
having these different these these
[1:04:39]
groups yeah and I yeah I get that Karen
[1:04:42]
and I I understand completely I think
[1:04:44]
it's just been it's been a challenge for
[1:04:46]
us to
[1:04:47]
just coordinate quite frankly so I think
[1:04:49]
we're just trying to talk to people as
[1:04:52]
soon as we can in the most efficient way
[1:04:54]
possible
[1:04:55]
if someone wants to have that one-on-one
[1:04:58]
conversation
[1:04:59]
um we can make that happen
[1:05:00]
well that's that's the thing you know
[1:05:02]
that that I'm offering too and I think I
[1:05:04]
did mention this before is that if you
[1:05:06]
have that list of questions I would be
[1:05:10]
understanding that you have just got a
[1:05:12]
ton of stuff on your plate I could have
[1:05:14]
these one-on-one conversations if I had
[1:05:16]
the consistent
[1:05:19]
prompts
[1:05:20]
if you want to call it
[1:05:22]
um that that would guide in the
[1:05:25]
information that you're trying to
[1:05:26]
collect so I mean that's
[1:05:28]
okay yeah yes that's what I can offer
[1:05:33]
so let's and Karen feel free to chime in
[1:05:37]
and just say forget plan a but plan a
[1:05:40]
um gaming I don't have a problem if you
[1:05:43]
can talk to those folks in the next
[1:05:44]
couple days if we can designate one of
[1:05:47]
those times to those folks
[1:05:49]
you know if we needed to you know we
[1:05:51]
could say look it we're gonna
[1:05:53]
the first time slot on whatever day is
[1:05:56]
just from environmental folks that's
[1:05:58]
easy if we could get all them to say you
[1:06:00]
know
[1:06:02]
day one or day two is better for most of
[1:06:04]
us we'll take it you know and if that
[1:06:07]
doesn't work then if um having you kind
[1:06:09]
of reach out to them
[1:06:11]
one-on-one or you know one on two or
[1:06:13]
whatever the case may be we'll take you
[1:06:15]
up on that
[1:06:17]
they can commit to not all six of them
[1:06:20]
but if we can get a handful of them to
[1:06:22]
commit to a time we'll just set aside
[1:06:24]
that hour for them
[1:06:26]
yeah I think that's probably like
[1:06:28]
herding cats if you can't even get them
[1:06:30]
to answer period to try to get them to
[1:06:32]
all be you know six of them agree on one
[1:06:36]
or two hours
[1:06:37]
hey yeah
[1:06:41]
I can ask but I just think it's an it's
[1:06:43]
a it's going to be an extra step yeah
[1:06:46]
it's been a challenge with uh in Lansing
[1:06:48]
when it comes to this
[1:06:50]
and I could get a hold of everybody on
[1:06:53]
that AG list
[1:06:54]
and in the event that they're interested
[1:06:57]
in these times what would be the
[1:07:01]
is it going to be a zoom type thing or
[1:07:04]
yeah we will actually let me
[1:07:08]
send you I'll send you all an email with
[1:07:11]
all the information who's going to reach
[1:07:13]
out to people but I will set up a link
[1:07:15]
so that you can send that you can send
[1:07:17]
that along as well
[1:07:19]
yeah send that to everybody uh yep in
[1:07:22]
the CAC
[1:07:26]
and maybe
[1:07:27]
um
[1:07:28]
maybe this list too so that
[1:07:31]
it's reminding everybody who's on the
[1:07:34]
list
[1:07:35]
so Ed it seems like pretty critical for
[1:07:38]
Ed Levine to be
[1:07:40]
interviewed
[1:07:41]
any suggestions CJ on how that could
[1:07:44]
happen
[1:07:50]
um that's a good question I would assume
[1:07:53]
he would he didn't respond by email I'm
[1:07:56]
assuming is that what I'm going to get
[1:07:59]
from this yeah
[1:08:01]
okay
[1:08:03]
um well I have a standing call with him
[1:08:04]
on Tuesday Mornings um
[1:08:07]
I'm happy to mention it um I think you
[1:08:10]
all copied me on each of the emails that
[1:08:12]
went out to each stakeholder group so I
[1:08:14]
can just like bring that to the top of
[1:08:16]
his inbox
[1:08:17]
if that sounds like a reasonable
[1:08:18]
approach
[1:08:22]
sounds good yeah that would be great
[1:08:24]
thanks that's perfect because then you
[1:08:26]
know we have at least some coverage
[1:08:31]
um I could I could reach out to Sean
[1:08:37]
walzinski
[1:08:39]
okay I know him
[1:08:42]
I I could reach out to
[1:08:45]
um Mike Ziegler and Deborah Dawson
[1:08:49]
okay and uh
[1:08:53]
Dan Siegel
[1:08:56]
I can hit up Jack young actually
[1:09:05]
okay great that would be really helpful
[1:09:10]
um and I think
[1:09:13]
I can I can give these people a call as
[1:09:16]
well I mean I think again it would be
[1:09:18]
best if it's someone from Lansing rather
[1:09:19]
than a cold call from a consultant but
[1:09:23]
um
[1:09:24]
I think we've got a good chunk of this
[1:09:25]
list taken up
[1:09:29]
yeah maybe just focus on the ones that
[1:09:31]
haven't been signed up for Katie
[1:09:39]
okay great
[1:09:41]
okay
[1:09:48]
all right so I think that's all we had
[1:09:51]
just really quickly November we're gonna
[1:09:53]
have the stakeholder interviews
[1:09:55]
um continue to promote the meeting and
[1:09:57]
hold the meeting and then continue to
[1:09:59]
promote the survey
[1:10:01]
once the survey closes on November 30th
[1:10:03]
we'll start synthesizing those results
[1:10:04]
and then we'll start developing that
[1:10:07]
conservation land assessment tool which
[1:10:09]
we will
[1:10:10]
um
[1:10:11]
speak to you guys all about either in
[1:10:13]
December or January
[1:10:16]
super
[1:10:20]
thank you and I enjoy the rest of your
[1:10:22]
meeting
[1:10:24]
hopeful update thank you Katie and John
[1:10:27]
I could I could probably also reach out
[1:10:29]
to Eileen Stout also okay
[1:10:33]
great
[1:10:34]
thanks Tom
[1:10:41]
but you're gonna you're gonna send us
[1:10:43]
something that
[1:10:45]
describes what this is about yep and
[1:10:48]
I'll also send out a list of who said they would speak to who and all
[1:10:52]
the information associated with this
[1:10:54]
yeah if you if I if um I see a list of
[1:10:57]
who you didn't speak to him or who
[1:10:58]
didn't respond I might be able to fill
[1:11:00]
on a few gaps too okay
[1:11:06]
that's great
[1:11:08]
thanks a lot
[1:11:11]
yeah thanks everyone
[1:11:13]
this has been very helpful for us thank
[1:11:15]
you
[1:11:16]
um we'll talk soon
[1:11:20]
have a nice night
[1:11:28]
okay moving on to new members
[1:11:32]
we need two new members
[1:11:36]
is that right
[1:11:42]
um
[1:11:46]
Ruth Hopkins had recommended somebody
[1:11:50]
uh and I've been in touch with them and
[1:11:54]
also uh Carey has been in touch with
[1:11:57]
them and um
[1:11:59]
and he may be watching uh the movie the meeting right now
[1:12:06]
so
[1:12:07]
um
[1:12:08]
yeah so that that's one possibility but
[1:12:11]
we we would like to see some more
[1:12:14]
candidates if possible
[1:12:19]
so if anybody and if anybody has any
[1:12:22]
ideas of
[1:12:25]
um
[1:12:29]
I don't know if I have any ideas but
[1:12:31]
John anybody else from the farming
[1:12:32]
community that might join us
[1:12:34]
we don't have Andrew anymore so we feel
[1:12:37]
like we're down a person on the
[1:12:39]
farming Community who share some of the
[1:12:41]
same concerns you bring up
[1:12:43]
every single me I don't want I don't
[1:12:45]
want to exaggerate every single meeting
[1:12:49]
we sort of have Android I mean she's not
[1:12:52]
here now but she's still a liaison from
[1:12:55]
a town board okay you just don't know
[1:12:58]
how much longer anyway John if you can
[1:13:01]
think of anybody else that would be a
[1:13:02]
good sector
[1:13:04]
keep including in here because then you
[1:13:06]
have like buy-in from people who are the
[1:13:08]
probably the most concerned about this
[1:13:09]
stuff
[1:13:11]
yep I can put some feelers out
[1:13:16]
see if there's some interests
[1:13:18]
maybe all those people you contact for
[1:13:20]
stakeholders
[1:13:23]
and by the way
[1:13:26]
so what happened you'd be a good person
[1:13:27]
John I I know I'm just tangential but I
[1:13:30]
don't know how you'd fit here
[1:13:32]
which Hatfield uh
[1:13:34]
to John Hatfield whoever the Hatfield is
[1:13:37]
that does the chicken
[1:13:40]
oh no one yeah
[1:13:45]
um I don't know about him okay okay
[1:13:48]
that's fine
[1:13:50]
and I don't know how Bob Munson would be
[1:13:54]
and Pete Larsen would be sort of on the
[1:13:55]
fridge
[1:13:58]
oops sorry Pete Larson would probably be
[1:13:59]
on The Fringe a little bit
[1:14:03]
right but might be worth talking to yeah
[1:14:07]
okay yeah okay Bob Munson
[1:14:10]
I don't you know obviously I'd let him
[1:14:13]
make the decision but I'm not sure I
[1:14:15]
think he's
[1:14:16]
pretty busy busy you know he's only
[1:14:19]
running four businesses at the same time
[1:14:20]
yeah right okay how about Skip Hardy
[1:14:24]
skip Hardy's another good well it kind
[1:14:27]
of represents the same Farm John
[1:14:28]
represents but he's right he's a good
[1:14:31]
person
[1:14:33]
so he's also on a bunch of national
[1:14:36]
fairy Mills so his he's out of town a
[1:14:39]
lot okay
[1:14:42]
probably should try to diversify a
[1:14:45]
little bit away from
[1:14:47]
um
[1:14:48]
okay just think about it John let us
[1:14:50]
know if you think of somebody all right
[1:14:52]
yeah or even just big landowners not
[1:14:54]
necessarily Farmers yeah yeah
[1:14:59]
um
[1:15:00]
one good thing about getting the
[1:15:01]
postcard distributed is it has on there
[1:15:03]
that we're looking for CAC members so
[1:15:07]
you know the more postcards we get out
[1:15:09]
uh the more people are aware that we're
[1:15:13]
beating the bushes to get some more CAC
[1:15:15]
members
[1:15:18]
Yeah by listing our names that could be
[1:15:20]
a double-edged sword
[1:15:22]
oh our names are not on there
[1:15:25]
okay good only CJ
[1:15:29]
so don't you worry town of Lansing and
[1:15:32]
CJ are on the postcard
[1:15:41]
so the process do you want to go over
[1:15:45]
that Tom or you want me to mention it
[1:15:47]
say that again the process for the new
[1:15:51]
CAC members is that they need to apply
[1:15:54]
by November 30th and they need to do
[1:15:58]
that through I believe it's a Tompkins
[1:16:00]
County website uh right CJ
[1:16:04]
um and then
[1:16:06]
um we will be getting the this
[1:16:09]
um Regular influx of applications as a
[1:16:14]
CAC we'll need to review them
[1:16:17]
um ASAP because
[1:16:19]
um our December meeting is on the first
[1:16:23]
and so the idea is that as soon as an
[1:16:26]
application comes in Heather's going to
[1:16:28]
notify the applicant that it's highly
[1:16:31]
likely that they will need to be
[1:16:33]
interviewed during the CAC meeting on
[1:16:35]
Thursday December 1st
[1:16:37]
and so um we could have a number of
[1:16:42]
people to interview if we're lucky on
[1:16:44]
that night and we'll do it the way we
[1:16:46]
did last year where they come I think we
[1:16:49]
allowed about a half an hour uh for each
[1:16:52]
one then a 15 minute break just because
[1:16:57]
it doesn't always work out so neatly and
[1:16:59]
then the next one would start
[1:17:00]
so
[1:17:02]
um just to prepare you for that meeting
[1:17:06]
um looking at the applications ahead of
[1:17:08]
time and then we'll probably circulate
[1:17:11]
questions ahead of time like we did last
[1:17:13]
year
[1:17:14]
and then do the interviews on December
[1:17:16]
1st then we would need to make
[1:17:18]
recommendations so we'd need to you know
[1:17:20]
stay after the interviews talk about the
[1:17:22]
candidates
[1:17:24]
um
[1:17:25]
make sure the candidate still wants us
[1:17:28]
and then recommend to the board I hope I
[1:17:31]
have that all correct uh CJ so I'm
[1:17:34]
confused though I have the application
[1:17:36]
is from the county
[1:17:44]
yeah um there's a repository like an
[1:17:48]
archive called laserfish and it's a you
[1:17:50]
know the county clerk's uh graciously
[1:17:53]
set this up for us so that when someone
[1:17:54]
hit submit uh I get a copy Heather gets
[1:17:57]
copy town clerk gets a copy it kind of
[1:17:59]
um makes it easier for everyone to
[1:18:01]
coordinate and turns an application into
[1:18:02]
a PDF which is super nice so just makes
[1:18:06]
it easy for all of us to coordinate
[1:18:07]
especially because you know the town
[1:18:09]
clerks take uh record all the committee
[1:18:11]
members let people know when terms are
[1:18:13]
up and really organize all that for the
[1:18:15]
annual organizational resolutions so
[1:18:18]
that's just a helpful way for us to
[1:18:20]
coordinate
[1:18:22]
so if somebody wants to apply they have
[1:18:24]
to go to the county they don't go to the
[1:18:26]
town no no no no no no you of course
[1:18:28]
yeah they go to lansingtown.com
[1:18:31]
and uh if you see the uh button on the
[1:18:34]
top that says
[1:18:36]
um uh boards and committees under
[1:18:38]
departments
[1:18:40]
um you can click on any different
[1:18:43]
committee and in this instance uh you
[1:18:45]
have click on conservation advisory
[1:18:47]
Council and in fact if you want uh we'll
[1:18:50]
just uh
[1:18:52]
walk you right through it so hold on
[1:18:53]
just a moment and I will
[1:18:57]
show you how
[1:18:58]
um how easy it is
[1:19:01]
so um yep here's on the town page and
[1:19:04]
just to let you know we do have um the
[1:19:06]
events so ccc's tonight and then we also
[1:19:09]
have the events coming up
[1:19:11]
on the calendar as well so um folks are
[1:19:14]
aware of those
[1:19:16]
and the flyer and such but if you want
[1:19:18]
to apply you simply go to boards and
[1:19:20]
committees and here's all the towns the
[1:19:22]
boards and committees is currently
[1:19:24]
listed and you go to CAC and you're
[1:19:26]
going to go right to this application uh
[1:19:28]
right here okay so um click on this
[1:19:31]
application and it takes you to yes it
[1:19:33]
is an external page through this LF web
[1:19:35]
uh so it's hosted by the laser archive
[1:19:39]
but we use it as our repository for all
[1:19:43]
kinds of archival Records so it's
[1:19:44]
actually really great resource and so
[1:19:47]
folks fill this out just like they did
[1:19:49]
like um you remember the old paper
[1:19:51]
application which we still have the
[1:19:52]
paper no worries if you'd like to fill
[1:19:54]
out paper we can certainly accommodate
[1:19:56]
that but then these folks just will hit
[1:19:59]
submit and depending on the committee
[1:20:01]
that they're submitting to we'll send to
[1:20:02]
a different person in uh Town Hall but
[1:20:05]
always including the Town Clerk and such
[1:20:07]
so it's a great record-keeping tool for
[1:20:09]
us so that's it that's the whole thing
[1:20:11]
CJ or Carrie um I just saw that fly by
[1:20:15]
so quickly I'm sorry if maybe I missed
[1:20:18]
or something or dropped the ball but I
[1:20:21]
my term expires next month am I supposed
[1:20:23]
to reapply
[1:20:26]
uh yes so we have uh so let me go to our
[1:20:29]
uh handy dandy
[1:20:30]
um board
[1:20:33]
um application process so hold on just a
[1:20:35]
moment
[1:20:38]
what to do
[1:20:45]
let's just find it or if you CJ if you
[1:20:48]
want could you just send that link
[1:20:50]
around
[1:20:51]
oh yes uh and it's also listed on the
[1:20:54]
postcard
[1:20:55]
listed on the what
[1:20:57]
the post office
[1:21:00]
I just need a link so I can fill it out
[1:21:03]
yeah easy peasy um we'll drop that right
[1:21:06]
in the chat for you
[1:21:07]
so that's the uh direct link to the
[1:21:10]
application so you don't have to go uh
[1:21:12]
you know Meandering of course through
[1:21:14]
the uh towns website which hopefully
[1:21:17]
it's fairly easy to find but um foreign
[1:21:28]
ago you might all um recall we created a
[1:21:32]
pointed board application process to try
[1:21:36]
to make things a little easier for folks
[1:21:38]
to understand kind of how to go through
[1:21:40]
the process of um uh you know applying
[1:21:43]
for a new term or uh applying to a join
[1:21:47]
for the first time uh so we're about to
[1:21:50]
send out the advertisement for
[1:21:53]
um inviting folks and then of course any
[1:21:56]
current uh member of any of the uh
[1:21:59]
bodies listed above so CAC planning
[1:22:02]
organism and guard will receive an
[1:22:04]
invitation with that link on it and um
[1:22:06]
uh we'll just apply and see uh
[1:22:08]
applications uh either scan to PDF of
[1:22:10]
their paper but like I just showed you
[1:22:12]
the handy dandy laserfish site just
[1:22:15]
creates a wonderful PDF record for us
[1:22:17]
automatically we'll circulate those two
[1:22:19]
as we did last year and we go through
[1:22:21]
this process as you may all be familiar
[1:22:23]
with now we go into
[1:22:25]
um you know executive session to you
[1:22:27]
know discuss the particular candidates
[1:22:29]
and then um when interviews are
[1:22:32]
completed you'll make a recommendation
[1:22:34]
which will then go to Soundboard
[1:22:37]
um and that's pretty much it and I'm
[1:22:39]
happy to drop this in the chat as well
[1:22:42]
just so you all have a copy and know how
[1:22:44]
that works
[1:22:45]
foreign
[1:22:52]
at the bottom of the flow chart there it
[1:22:55]
said that the applicants
[1:22:57]
um they're if they're not selected their
[1:22:59]
application stays on file
[1:23:01]
um yes uh so yep we'll be inviting um all
[1:23:05]
the folks uh who applied previously
[1:23:09]
um to apply again or we usually just
[1:23:11]
reach out to say hey we have an uh
[1:23:13]
application on file that we received in
[1:23:15]
the last few years are you still
[1:23:16]
interested basically just to confirm
[1:23:18]
that they would still be interested in
[1:23:19]
turning
[1:23:21]
hey so another another question CJ since
[1:23:24]
um
[1:23:25]
if I had had made this mistake of not
[1:23:28]
indicating that I might be interested to
[1:23:31]
stay on the committee does that change
[1:23:33]
the number of two open spots or is it
[1:23:39]
um this is not this is not an automatic
[1:23:41]
thing to just re re-up in other words
[1:23:43]
right right we want to give
[1:23:47]
um you know I think the process that the
[1:23:49]
town board uh had developed here is this
[1:23:52]
kind of happened you know just as covid
[1:23:54]
was um kind of happening uh as well I
[1:23:58]
wanted to
[1:24:00]
um essentially just establish a what I
[1:24:02]
guess they saw some a fair process to
[1:24:05]
give people a chance to renew if they
[1:24:07]
wanted to and then invite new people as
[1:24:09]
well so okay so it's it's a it's a
[1:24:12]
completely open field then
[1:24:14]
as far as I see it um and so here's the
[1:24:17]
folks currently uh so here's all of you
[1:24:20]
um and so as you can see we've got and
[1:24:23]
remember they're two-year staggered
[1:24:24]
terms so this is not and they were all
[1:24:25]
by alphabetical order there wasn't you
[1:24:28]
know any other method used to indicate
[1:24:31]
um terms so the B's and the E's and such
[1:24:36]
are in the beginning of the alphabet and
[1:24:38]
thus are ending 2022.
[1:24:41]
and so the other ones you can see are
[1:24:43]
2023 so at the end of next year all the
[1:24:46]
2023 folks of course would uh re-up if
[1:24:49]
they wanted to plug in oh okay so I mean
[1:24:51]
Andrew's dropping off anyway Tom is
[1:24:54]
dropping off anyway Evan is intersection
[1:24:58]
Andrew's actually not a member anymore
[1:25:00]
she's a liaison from the town board so
[1:25:02]
the just the nine members here so one
[1:25:05]
two three four so it's really easy it's
[1:25:08]
just really Robin and me right now
[1:25:11]
Robin you
[1:25:13]
um Tom C and Evan ogada who I have yet
[1:25:16]
to I think meet
[1:25:18]
Evan's not been on the committee
[1:25:21]
actively I don't think
[1:25:24]
so Karen you may have an application
[1:25:27]
that's already on file that you might be
[1:25:29]
able to activate because I think last
[1:25:30]
year you applied because we thought we
[1:25:34]
had differing information about whether
[1:25:37]
your term was up and I'm pretty sure you
[1:25:39]
submitted an application
[1:25:41]
where where do you find that well CG
[1:25:45]
might be able to help somehow just dig
[1:25:47]
it out
[1:25:49]
um but if not you do have to reapply and
[1:25:52]
um Robin you'll need to also
[1:25:56]
did you see my question about whether we
[1:25:58]
need to interview again
[1:26:03]
um I the
[1:26:04]
my memory from last year was that
[1:26:09]
the CAC member made a very cursory
[1:26:14]
statement of interest and then
[1:26:18]
um
[1:26:19]
and then they signed off somehow CJ I
[1:26:22]
think you were able to do it such that
[1:26:23]
the person was that they left the room
[1:26:26]
and then they joined the room again but
[1:26:28]
when they left the room then the CAC was
[1:26:31]
able to
[1:26:32]
give a thumbs up or uh express any
[1:26:35]
concerns and I I don't think we've had a
[1:26:38]
time when we've expressed
[1:26:40]
concerns about current members
[1:26:46]
so it wasn't a formal long interview
[1:26:51]
okay
[1:26:52]
quick quick statement of Interest
[1:26:56]
so CJ do you want me to ping you
[1:26:59]
separately about whether that
[1:27:03]
application is still on file I mean I
[1:27:05]
don't think it's changed
[1:27:07]
appreciably uh yeah we're uh so early
[1:27:10]
next week uh we'll be starting to pull
[1:27:14]
out the prior applications from the
[1:27:16]
previous three years uh and just
[1:27:19]
following with with people it's part of
[1:27:21]
our planning board cac's EPA process so
[1:27:24]
um it's just that Heather's been in Code
[1:27:27]
Enforcement Training the first module
[1:27:28]
this week so uh that's why we haven't
[1:27:30]
had a chance to get to it yet but
[1:27:33]
we will be following up
[1:27:35]
okay great thanks absolutely
[1:27:48]
okay are we all set with um the new
[1:27:52]
members issue
[1:27:57]
I think so
[1:28:01]
okay Department reports planning
[1:28:04]
department report
[1:28:06]
um
[1:28:07]
well also I'm going to say is that the
[1:28:10]
traffic impact study related to Dandy
[1:28:14]
Mart
[1:28:15]
has been received
[1:28:17]
and it's available
[1:28:20]
on the town website I believe
[1:28:26]
and I have I have recused myself from
[1:28:29]
The Dandy mark
[1:28:32]
application
[1:28:34]
because as a CAC member I you know I was
[1:28:37]
part of the
[1:28:39]
foreign
[1:28:40]
the comments that the CAC sent to uh to
[1:28:44]
the planning board regarding Dandy Mart
[1:28:49]
and
[1:28:51]
the town does not want to see any kind
[1:28:53]
of conflict of interest
[1:28:57]
regarding that issue
[1:29:01]
so that that I think is the only
[1:29:04]
thing that playing board is up to that relates to CAC
[1:29:13]
and we have no Town board liaison here
[1:29:17]
so
[1:29:20]
I guess we could skip that
[1:29:22]
and David do you want to say something
[1:29:24]
about the um
[1:29:26]
Environmental Management Council well
[1:29:28]
that too is uh so there was no
[1:29:30]
Environmental Management council meeting
[1:29:32]
last month if you recall October 18th
[1:29:36]
which almost coincided with their
[1:29:38]
monthly meeting which is usually on the
[1:29:41]
second Thursday of the month
[1:29:43]
um they were you know some of them were
[1:29:45]
pretty involved in organizing that and
[1:29:47]
some of them are going to be attending
[1:29:48]
that so they just skip the meeting
[1:29:52]
the that was the event that was focused
[1:29:55]
on
[1:29:56]
uh they had various uh organizations in
[1:30:01]
the Tompkins County area that were
[1:30:03]
focused on Emergency Management type
[1:30:06]
issues
[1:30:07]
and it had sort of a climate change
[1:30:09]
twist to it too thinking about flooding
[1:30:11]
and some of the things we're seeing with
[1:30:12]
climate change
[1:30:13]
but not exclusively and it was I forget
[1:30:17]
three to four different agencies fire
[1:30:18]
departments police departments
[1:30:20]
um
[1:30:21]
I think there was someone from um yeah
[1:30:24]
that
[1:30:25]
Ithaca
[1:30:27]
city offices that deal with Emergency
[1:30:30]
Management just kind of like who you
[1:30:31]
call us was really for you know General
[1:30:33]
citizens uh in general very Broad
[1:30:36]
uh audience involved
[1:30:38]
focused on
[1:30:39]
um who are concerned about you know some
[1:30:42]
you know want to know what what to do in
[1:30:44]
certain situations so anyway I guess it
[1:30:46]
was pretty successful but that's all I
[1:30:49]
have to say about that
[1:30:53]
okay
[1:30:54]
well I think that wraps up uh what we
[1:30:58]
wanted to cover during this meeting is
[1:31:00]
there any other uh new business that
[1:31:03]
people want to discuss the only other
[1:31:05]
one that came up was Robin's bird uh
[1:31:09]
demo
[1:31:10]
and
[1:31:12]
um I mean Robin if you wanted to do that
[1:31:14]
more thoroughly we could do it
[1:31:17]
um in the next month or two or if you
[1:31:18]
wanted to show it tonight that's also
[1:31:20]
possible before that we do the trainings
[1:31:26]
I wasn't planning to show you the bird
[1:31:30]
um you joined the bird conservation tool
[1:31:32]
that I sent via email
[1:31:36]
um no I wasn't planning any kind of
[1:31:38]
formal demo of it okay
[1:31:42]
you want to do that at different meeting
[1:31:43]
or just have people look at it
[1:31:45]
individually
[1:31:46]
well I was just thinking about
[1:31:49]
um you know who who would benefit from
[1:31:52]
seeing that tool and I think it
[1:31:56]
all of us would benefit from it but
[1:31:59]
um
[1:32:00]
you know would Katie and John need to
[1:32:03]
look at it to see you know understand
[1:32:06]
more about you know
[1:32:08]
bird habitat in Lansing and I don't I
[1:32:11]
saw Karen commented on it too I'm not
[1:32:13]
really sure how to use the information
[1:32:15]
right now just that it was a tool that
[1:32:17]
showed
[1:32:19]
um various Open Spaces I see CJ has a
[1:32:22]
hand raised
[1:32:25]
CJ did you have something to say about
[1:32:27]
it uh not about this but about another
[1:32:30]
item I had spoken with Carrie earlier
[1:32:31]
today about the Water Resources Council
[1:32:34]
oh right yeah okay so Robin maybe we
[1:32:39]
could um table it to January when um
[1:32:42]
Katie and John Stein met so be with us
[1:32:44]
again
[1:32:46]
yeah possibly yeah I think it was just
[1:32:49]
with um show some areas on the map maybe
[1:32:52]
we could look at how they compare to the
[1:32:54]
areas that people in the survey
[1:32:56]
have already indicated Maybe
[1:32:59]
there's overlap but yeah maybe not not
[1:33:02]
tonight
[1:33:02]
that would be awesome perfect
[1:33:11]
okay
[1:33:12]
um
[1:33:14]
Carrie did you want to say something
[1:33:15]
about the Water Resources Council well I
[1:33:18]
think CJ could actually
[1:33:21]
um that'd be great yeah I just wanted to
[1:33:24]
um so I heard from Darby Catalia
[1:33:26]
Tompkins County Planning uh asking about
[1:33:29]
uh they have two vacancies for next year
[1:33:33]
uh to the Tompkins County Water
[1:33:35]
Resources Council and that's an Advisory
[1:33:37]
Board to the County Legislature and
[1:33:39]
they're looking for an at-large and
[1:33:42]
Municipal seat so
[1:33:45]
um they're looking for the there's no
[1:33:48]
kind of official approval needed but uh
[1:33:51]
we're asking about
[1:33:52]
um uh or at least from their perspective
[1:33:55]
I believe that the town would probably
[1:33:57]
want to formally appoint somebody but I
[1:34:00]
want to see if there was any interest uh
[1:34:01]
from anyone on conservation advisor
[1:34:10]
I might be interested
[1:34:14]
okay great it was okay if I pass on your
[1:34:16]
email that's a Darvish sure okay
[1:34:21]
foreign
[1:34:23]
okay great thank you very much unless
[1:34:25]
and if there's anyone else you know uh
[1:34:27]
you're interested in serving on the
[1:34:28]
County Water Resources Council I'm happy
[1:34:30]
to pass your name on for consideration
[1:34:32]
I hope there wouldn't be a conflict of
[1:34:35]
interest
[1:34:40]
ing
[1:34:41]
there will be
[1:34:43]
I'm really
[1:34:45]
um not happy with this
[1:34:48]
but
[1:34:49]
yeah well I think it's absolutely
[1:34:51]
ludicrous that there's a conflict of
[1:34:52]
interest for what what you're doing as
[1:34:54]
opposed to a past present who broke
[1:34:56]
every ethics Norm that we ever seen in
[1:34:59]
government so we have just an absurd
[1:35:02]
situation where at the local level
[1:35:04]
they're holding you to a standard that's
[1:35:06]
just beyond imagination and then at the
[1:35:09]
at this Federal level
[1:35:11]
who the hell cares
[1:35:13]
yeah
[1:35:20]
okay on that note and we are going to
[1:35:23]
start our trainings and
[1:35:26]
um
[1:35:27]
we're gonna start with the workplace
[1:35:29]
violence first because I think there are
[1:35:32]
more people who need that training than
[1:35:35]
the subsequent one and that will allow
[1:35:37]
those folks to actually get off because
[1:35:41]
they will have fulfilled uh the next one
[1:35:45]
um
[1:35:46]
I think other places Cornell Etc
[1:35:50]
so
[1:35:52]
um CJ I think you have uh workplace
[1:35:55]
violence queued up maybe I hope
[1:35:58]
and I'm not sure do we need to go live
[1:36:01]
at this for this part uh no we can
[1:36:03]
certainly disable that if you'd like to
[1:36:05]
this is just a training now so if you'd
[1:36:07]
like to end the meeting formally that's
[1:36:09]
perfect peaceful
[1:36:11]
okay let's uh let's adjourn
